Ce tableau a pour but de- donner au lecteur une idée claire et simultanée des enseignements du Bouddhisme ésotérique sur ces trois doctrines importantes : — la Constitution de l’Univers, la Constitution de l’Homme et ses états spirituels pendante! après la vie terrestre.
3On remarquera que ces principes sont énumérés en commençant par l’extérieur et en allant vers l’intérieur, le premier n’étant que l’extérieur de l’enveloppe qui coutient dans ses replis intérieurs les sept autres, le Joyau de Grand Prix, le Shekinah. Mais, afin de rendre ces sept Etats, Principes et Sens apparents à l’œil extérieur, aussi bien qu’à l'intelligence, nous avons pris la liberté de les représenter s’élevant de la terre sous la forme d’une croix qui est le véritable symbole de l’homme indiqué par l’architecture de l’Église chrétienne1. Ce signe a déjà été employé comme Symbole sacré longtemps avant l’ère chrétienne, il est même si ancien qu’on le retrouve sur les monogrammes de quelques-unes des planètes. Le mystère de ce double emblème pourrait remplir des volumes ; disons seulement qu’il est le véritable emblème de l’homme et de la femme. La figure de la croix, dit Platon, existe dans l’Univers ; ses quatre espaces intérieurs s’étendent à l’Infini — au nord, au sud, à l’est, à l’ouest. Et ainsi, s’élevant de la terre au ciel, comme l’Arbre de vie, l’homme se tient debout avec l’Infini autour de lui et l’Éternité au dedans. Le rayon transversal qui représente les armes de la puissance et de la gloire peut aussi représenter l’arbre de la Connaissance du Bien et du Mal (ce qui est le cas dans la Théosophie hermétique), dont le fruit est à sa portée ; il se tient au milieu du jardin séparant les principes les plus élevés des principes inférieurs.

This table has for its purpose to give the reader a clear and simultaneous idea of the teachings of Esoteric Buddhism on these three important doctrines: — the Constitution of the Universe, the Constitution of Man, and his spiritual states pending and after earthly life.
3It will be noted that these principles are enumerated beginning from the outside and going toward the inside, the first being only the outer covering of the envelope which contains, in its inner folds, the seven others, the Pearl of Great Price, the Shekinah. But, in order to render these seven States, Principles, and Senses apparent to the outer eye as well as to the intelligence, we have taken the liberty of representing them as rising from the earth in the form of a cross, which is the true symbol of man indicated by the architecture of the Christian Church.1 This sign has already been employed as a sacred Symbol long before the Christian era; it is even so ancient that it is found again on the monograms of some of the planets. The mystery of this double emblem could fill volumes; let us say only that it is the true emblem of man and of woman. The figure of the cross, says Plato, exists in the Universe; its four inner spaces extend to Infinity — to the north, to the south, to the east, to the west. And thus, rising from earth to heaven, like the Tree of life, man stands upright with the Infinite around him and Eternity within. The transverse ray, which represents the arms of power and of glory, may also represent the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (as is the case in hermetic Theosophy), whose fruit is within his reach; he stands in the middle of the garden, separating the higher principles from the lower principles.
