Les Sens, parvenus au summum de leur développement, sont sous la dépendance des éléments qui les dominent. On voit pourquoi il eût été dangereux que les Sens atteignissent leur apogée avant la naissance de l’intellectualité.

With the second age, Youth, we see a new element appear: Passion. The Senses, which had only been taking shape,

now undergo an important development and contribute a large part to the creation of the second element.
But Maturity arrives — that which is rightly called the age of reason — for this new element begins to manifest itself. Then Passion develops further still, with all its consequences: enthusiasm, devotion, etc., illuminated as it is by intellectuality. The Senses, having reached the summit of their development, are placed under the dependence of the elements that dominate them. One sees why it would have been dangerous for the Senses to reach their apogee before the birth of intellectuality.
