Ont-ils quelque chose de plus qu’à leur départ? Sûrement. Ils ont été payés chaque fois et maintenant ils sont tous plus riches qu’auparavant. Mais sont-ils également riches? On sait bien que non. D'abord certains métiers font gagner moins d’argent que d’autres ; ensuite, dans le même métier les uns sont économes et ont gardé beaucoup de l’argent gagné, les autres plus vicieux ont plus ou moins dépensé. Telle est l’histoire de la construction des quatre maisons. C’est le récit de la construction d’un monde que nous venons de faire et maintenant nous sommes, grâce à cet exemple, à même de comprendre ce qui nous eût été fort difficile à concevoir auparavant. LA VAGUE DE VIE DANS UN MONDE En effet, nos trois métiers représentent les trois courants de force qui se trouvent à l’origine de chaque monde. Ces trois courants de force sont : 1° La force minérale qui créera toutes les espèces de minéraux existant sur les planètes (nos terrassiers). 2° La force végétale qui créera toutes les espèces de végétaux. (Nos maçons).
33° La force animale qui créera toutes les espèces d’animaux. (Nos peintres). Les terrains dont nous avons parlé ce sont les planètes d’un monde. Le nombre des planètes d’un monde serait constant d’après l’occultisme. Mais certaines d’entre elles sont visibles; d'autres invisibles, de là les nombres diftérents pour chaque monde. Pour le nôtre, le raisonnement s’établit sur sept planètes. Nous aurions donc sept terrains au lieu de quatre. Ce que nous avons dit des ouvriers s’applique exactement ici. De même que les terrassiers ne peuvent que faire la terrasse et quand ils ont fini sur un terrain passent sur un autre, de même la force minérale ne peut faire que des minéraux et quand elle a fini sur une planète elle passe sur une autre. Quand elle a passé sur toutes les planètes, elle fait comme nos terrassiers, elle rentre au repos. 11 en est ainsi pour les forces végétales et animales donnant chacune sur chaque planète naissance à toutes les espèces de végétaux et d’animaux. The groundworkers move to the third plot, the masons to the second, and the painters, who until then had been resting, come to the first plot and decorate the house. At this moment everyone is working, each on his own plot, as the following arrangement shows: Rest 3 — Painters 2 — Masons 1 — Groundworkers 1st plot — 2nd — 3rd — 4th 4th Moment. — When the groundworkers have finished preparing the third plot, the masons have finished the second house, and the painters have entirely decorated the first, which is ready for use. Do they have anything more than at their departure? Certainly. They have been paid each time, and now they are all richer than before. But are they equally rich? We well know they are not. First, some trades earn less money than others; further, within the same trade, some are thrifty and have kept much of the money earned, others, more dissolute, have spent more or less of it. Such is the story of the building of the four houses. This is the account of the building of a world that we have just given, and now we are, thanks to this example, in a position to understand what would have been very hard for us to conceive beforehand. THE WAVE OF LIFE IN A WORLD Indeed, our three trades represent the three currents of force that stand at the origin of every world. These three currents of force are: 1° The mineral force, which will create every species of mineral existing on the planets (our groundworkers). 2° The vegetable force, which will create every species of plant. (Our masons.)
33° The animal force, which will create every species of animal. (Our painters.) The plots we have spoken of are the planets of a world. The number of planets in a world would be constant, according to occultism. But some of them are visible, others invisible, hence the differing numbers for each world. For our own, the reasoning is established on seven planets. We would therefore have seven plots instead of four. What we have said of the workmen applies exactly here. Just as the groundworkers can do nothing but make the terrace, and, once finished on one plot, move on to another, so likewise the mineral force can produce nothing but minerals, and, once it has finished on one planet, moves on to another. When it has passed over all the planets, it does as our groundworkers do — it returns to rest. 11 (a scanning misread of "Il," French for "It") is the same for the vegetable and animal forces, each giving rise, on each planet, to every species of plant and of animal.
