Ainsi fut dissoute et s’évanouit, toute forme corporelle se mouvant sur la Terre, dans l’oiseau et dans le quadrupède, et dans 1 existence animale, et dans la Vie originelle et vermiforme, issue de la Terre, et dans tout l’Homme universel, tout Adam ! 22. Tout ce qui possédait une essence émanée de l’esprit des Vies dans sa compi’éhension spirituelle, atteint par le fléau destructeur, passa. 23. La trace même de la nature substantielle et plastique fut effacée de l’Elément adamique, depuis le règne hominal jusqu’au quadrupède, depuis le reptiforme jusqu’à l’oiseau des cieux : et tous ces êtres, également effacés, disparurent de la Terre. Les sources de l’abîme potentiel indéfini furent fermées, les forces multiplicatrices des eaux s’arrêtèrent dans les cieux ; et l'atmosphère aqueuse tombant en masse, s’épuisa. 3. Agitées d’un mouvement périodique de flux et de reflux, les eaux balancées sur la Terre, revinrent enfin à leur premier état ; elles se retirèrent en elles-mêmes au bout de cinq décuples et une centaine entière de périodes lumineuses. 4. Et dans le septième renouvellement lunaire, au dix-septième jour de ce renouvellement, la Thebah s’arrêta sur les hauteurs de YArarat ; c’est-à-dire aux premières lueurs du cours réfléchi de la lumière. 5. Mais les eaux, toujours agitées d’un flux et reflux continuel, furent en proie à ce double mouvement de se porter en avant et de se retirer en elles-mêmes, jusqu’au dixième renouvellement lunaire. Ce ne fut que le premier de cette dixième Néoménie, que parurent les prémices des éléments, les principes des enfantements naturels, les sommets des montagnes. 6. Là se terminèrent les quatre décuples de jour ; et Noé, dégageant la lumière qu’il avait faite à la Thebah,

Lâcha l’Érebe, l’obscurité occidentale, qui, prenant un mouvement alternatif de sortie et de rentrée, suivit et suivra ce mouvement périodique jusqu’à l’entier dessèchement des eaux de dessus la Terre. 8. Ensuite, il laissa aller d’avec lui, Ylôna, la force plastique de la Nature ; afin de reconnaître si les eaux s’allégeaient sur la face de l’Élément adamique. 9. Mais Ylôna, ne trouvant point de lieu de repos pour communiquer son action génératrice, revint vers lui, ver la Thebah, parce que les eaux occupaient encore toute la surface terrestre ; il déploya donc sa puissance, et l’ayant retirée, la fit venir à lui vers la Thebah. 10. Et lorsqu’il eut attendu un septénaire d’autres périodes lumineuses, il émit de nouveau Ylôna hors de la Thebah. 11. Mais elle ne revint à lui, cette faculté plastique de la Nature, qu’au temps même de l’Érebe, telle qu’une colombe fuyant le noir corbeau : une sublimation de l’essence ignée avait été saisie par sa faculté conceptive ; en sorte que Noé reconnut à ce signe que les eaux s’étaient allégées sur la Terre. 12. Néanmoins il attendit encore un septénaire d’autres jours, après lesquels il émit de nouveau Ylôna; mais cette faculté génératrice étant sortie, ne revint plus vers lui.

The waters prevailed at last, according to the full extent of their forces, and to such a degree that the highest mountains found beneath the heavens were covered by them. 470 — 20. They dominated above their summits by five and one ten of mother-measure, and entirely covered the mountains. 21. Thus was dissolved and vanished every corporeal form moving upon the Earth, in the bird and in the quadruped, and in 1 existence (a scanning misread of "l'existence") animal, and in the original and vermiform Life, issued from the Earth, and in the whole of universal Man, all Adam! 22. Everything that possessed an essence emanated from the spirit of the Lives, in its spiritual comprehension, struck by the destroying scourge, passed away. 23. Even the trace of the substantial and plastic nature was effaced from the adamic Element, from the human kingdom to the quadruped, from the reptiform to the bird of the heavens: and all these beings, likewise effaced, disappeared from the Earth. There remained only Noah alone, the rest of elemental Nature, and that which was together with him in the Thebah, the sacred retreat. 24. And the waters prevailed upon the Earth, and dominated there five tens and one hundred of luminous periods. CHAPTER VIII The Massing of the Species.
2v. 1. But He remembered, HIM-the-Gods, the existence of Noah, and that of animal life, and of the whole quadruped kind, shut up together within the Thebah, that sacred refuge; and He made a breath pass from the East to the West over the Earth, which checked the expansion of the waters. 2. The sources of the indefinite potential abyss were closed, the multiplying forces of the waters ceased within the heavens; and the aqueous atmosphere, falling in mass, exhausted itself. 3. Agitated by a periodic movement of flux and reflux, the waters, swaying upon the Earth, returned at last to their first state; they withdrew into themselves at the end of five tens and one whole hundred of luminous periods. 4. And in the seventh lunar renewal, on the seventeenth day of this renewal, the Thebah came to rest upon the heights of Ararat; that is to say, at the first gleams of the reflected course of the light. 5. But the waters, still agitated by a continual flux and reflux, were prey to this double movement of advancing and withdrawing into themselves, until the tenth lunar renewal. It was only on the first day of this tenth New Moon that the firstfruits of the elements appeared, the principles of natural births, the summits of the mountains. 6. There ended the four tens of day; and Noah, releasing the light he had made in the Thebah,

Released Erebus, the western darkness, which, taking an alternating movement of going out and returning, followed and shall follow this periodic movement until the entire drying up of the waters from off the Earth. 8. Then, He let go from Himself, Ylôna, the plastic force of Nature; in order to learn whether the waters were subsiding upon the face of the adamic Element. 9. But Ylôna, finding no resting place in which to communicate her generative action, returned to Him, toward the Thebah, because the waters still covered the whole terrestrial surface; He therefore extended His power, and, having withdrawn her, made her come back to Himself, toward the Thebah. 10. And when He had waited a septenary of other luminous periods, He sent Ylôna forth again from the Thebah. 11. But she did not return to Him, this plastic faculty of Nature, until the very time of Erebus, like a dove fleeing the black raven: a sublimation of the igneous essence had been seized by her conceptive faculty; so that Noah recognized, by this sign, that the waters had subsided upon the Earth. 12. Nevertheless he waited yet another septenary of days, after which he sent forth Ylôna again; but this generative faculty, having gone out, returned to him no more.
