Pentagramme.

GLOSSAIRE
Pentagram. A magical representation of man conceived as a microcosm (see this word). It is a five-pointed star which indicates, to whoever knows how to construct it, the most occult laws of human polarity. It is, further, a powerful instrument of magical action.
Perispirit. A term of spiritism. An intermediary between the Body and the Spirit, analogous to the plastic mediator. (See Ruach.)
Philosophy. Several philosophers have made use of the doctrines of occultism, whether they were initiated into occult societies (as Leibniz was), or whether they drew directly on the Kabbalah (as Spinoza did). In any case it is interesting to compare them from this point of view.
Philosopher's Stone. The magical realization of the absolute applied to the mineral world. — The result of the action of human life upon mineral transformism.
Pleroma. The animated Universe as conceived by the Gnosis.
Porism. A term used by Wronski to denote dogmas. In mathematics, this word indicates problems to be demonstrated.
Gates (Kabbalistic). Mystical paths for arriving at intuitive knowledge of the various parts of the Science.
Prakriti. Skt. word, meaning « female », denotes in Hindu metaphysics the passive, negative, feminine pole of Brahma (see this word): Extension, Repulsion, centrifugal Force, Substance. See p. 116 of the Essai sur la Philosophie Buddhique.
Pralaya. Skt. word, denotes in Hindu metaphysics one of the two phases of the Kalpa (see this word), the period in which, the Absolute possessing itself, Brahma (see this word) sleeps within itself.

GLOSSARY
1057
Prana. Skt. word, meaning « vitality ». Specifically, denotes in Buddhist Esotericism the second of the seven principles constituting the human personality, everything in man that partakes of the liquid as much as of the solid (the proper life of the organic cells). See p. 155 of the Essai sur la Philosophie Buddhique.
Pratyeka-Buddha. Skt. word, denotes in Buddhist Esotericism the Buddha who, in seeking the Apavarga (see this word), aspired to deliver only himself; Nirvana (see this word) for him is absolute Nothingness, for, after the reintegration of the Void, the will, limited to individual salvation, ceases to act. See p. 206 of the Essai sur la Philosophie Buddhique.
Priest. The 3e grade of the mysteries of Mithras.
Prayer. A momentary fusion of the Self and of the higher Unconscious, the Soi, through the action of idealized Feeling upon a magically developed Will. The words spoken matter very little for this action, which one very seldom succeeds in realizing in its full expansion. (See the alphabetical table under this word.)
Principles (Seven). The theory of the constitution of man by seven principles thus analyzes the Body, the Life, and the Soul:
Soul.
Life. . .
Body
( Atma 7
Buddhi 6
Manas 5
Kama-Rupa 4
Linga Sharira 3
Jiva 2
Rupa 1
See these words.
Principiation. The state of a being or a thing that is in germ without being yet developed. The oak is in principiation (in potentiality of being) within the acorn. According to the correct translation of Genesis, Elohim created beings in principiation and not in effective existence. It is the other forces of Nature, likewise created by God — human Will and Destiny — that took upon themselves to develop these germs, or to destroy beings that had reached the period of ultimate development. (See Will, Fatality, Bereschit.)
Progress. The law of Progress manifests itself in the form of a cyclical evolution, with periods of ascent and periods of descent, and not in the form of a straight-line ascending evolution. The spiral is the exact representation of the law of Progress.
Providence. One of the three forces at work in the Universe.
Psychic (Body). A term denoting, by analogy with the physical body and the astral body, the higher principles of the human being (the 5e, 6e, 7e principles).
Psychurgy. The science of the esoteric principles that preside over birth and death, that is, over the various transformations of the soul.
Punarbhava. Skt. word, denotes in Buddhism « rebirth », the repersonalization of individuality.
