If experience fails him, or if he lacks the necessary presence of mind, he may be engulfed and carried into the current of darkness, toward the Moon. We are not doing metaphysics at this moment. This is elementary astronomy. Our Earth always has one of its halves, one hemisphere, lit by the Sun — that is, where it is day — and another half lit by the Moon — that is, where it is night.
