Supposant que nos lecteurs connaissent ou connaîtront l’ouvrage de M. Sinnett, intitulé : Bouddhisme ésotérique, notre seule intention, dans ces pages, est d’attirer l’attention sur la doctrine de la constitution septénaire de l’homme et de son évolution graduelle à travers la chaîne planétaire septénaire, puis d’indiquer sa correspondance avec les autres enseignements ésotériques qui traitent ce sujet profondément intéressant. t. 1It sums up, as well as can be done, our entire essay, and we hope the reader will kindly excuse the faults of detail that may be found in it, given the overall idea we have striven to represent. — • 224 — REMARKS To this study we shall add a few words. It will be noted that the diagram shows, within the microcosm itself, the existence of the three worlds; each of the worlds corresponds to one of the letters of the sacred tetragrammaton יהוה (iod, hé, vau, hé). At the top, the world of the idea, comprising the brain and its ganglia, the cerebellum, and the psychic circulation. This world corresponds to the letter iod (י). In the middle, the world of Life, comprising the lungs, the heart, the organs of circulation, with the great sympathetic nerve as the center of reserve of the astral body (nervous fluid held in reserve). This world corresponds to the letter vau (1), which means bond. At the bottom, between the diaphragm above and the peritoneum below, the world of matter, comprising the organs situated in the abdomen and the material reservoirs of the organism. This world corresponds to the letter hé (ה). Here, then, are three of the letters of the tetragrammaton: the iod (head), the hé (belly), the vau (chest). Where is the second hé to be found?
2With regard to our study of the Tarot, we have shown that the minor arcana indicate the constitution of the human body. The originality of our work comes chiefly from the discovery of the functions of the second hé, acting as the center of transition, of generation, from one world to the other. Now, observe that in the human body, all the extra-peritoneal organs, situated beneath the peritoneum, quite at the bottom of the diagram, represent this second hé of the sacred tetragrammaton. — 225 — Here, then, is (1e (a scanning misread of "de") our exact sciences coming to support, with all its teachings, the data of Occult Science concerning the word iod, hé, vau, hé. Technical. THEOSOPHICAL THEORIES Exposition of Esoteric Buddhism by Her Grace the Duchess of Pomar. We cannot better sum up all that we have just set forth than by reproducing in extenso the study on Esoteric Buddhism by Sinnett, published by Lady Caithness, Duchess of Pomar1. The reader will thereby be put in a position to see what original developments we have produced in our preceding study. — Several of the theories given here in germ have been considerably developed by their being brought together, on the one hand, with present-day scientific knowledge, and, on the other, with the Western tradition summed up by Fabre d'Olivet.
3It will be seen, in comparing these two accounts with the writings of Origen, on the one hand, and the true theories of Buddhism2, on the other, that the doctrines presented under this name of Theosophy constitute an alloy, at times crude, of true Buddhism, of Gnosticism (for the greater part), and of Kabbalah. The passage from Jacob Boehme cited by Lady Caithness shows, moreover, that theosophists who never had any contact with the East knew and developed the theory of the seven principles in nature and in man. ESOTERIC BUDDHISM Buddhism, in its esoteric form, is, it is said, identical with the ancient Religion — Wisdom, — prehistoric Buddhism, or hermetic theosophy, which, in our view, is to be found again in all the mythological myths and occultist allegories of antiquity. Supposing that our readers know, or will come to know, the work of M. Sinnett, entitled Esoteric Buddhism, our sole intention in these pages is to draw attention to the doctrine of the sevenfold constitution of man and of his gradual evolution across the sevenfold planetary chain, and then to indicate its correspondence with the other esoteric teachings that treat this profoundly interesting subject. t.
