Before you begin

Questions & answers

The questions readers ask first, answered in plain terms. If yours is not here, the archive keeps its desk open — write to the Press.

Is this a religion?

No. What the Press keeps is a consciousness technology, not a creed — a set of practices that work by their effect on the nervous system, whatever you happen to believe. You need not convert to anything to begin, and nothing here asks for faith in the place of experience.

Do I need a teacher or a guru?

No. The system is built to regulate itself: its frequency returns test whether each stage has truly integrated before the next is offered, so the work does not depend on a master to grant permission. Where you want company rather than hierarchy, the community carries peer support.

How long does the twelve-step journey take?

That depends on you — on your constitution, and on how the work settles. The system tests readiness at each turn rather than running to a calendar, and hurrying is not merely unnecessary but counterproductive. Some steps pass in weeks; others ask for a season.

Is any of this scientifically proven?

The audio technology rests on documented effects, and the states the practice aims at have been described, across cultures, for centuries. The method is meant to be testable and replicable, and the research is ongoing rather than settled. We say plainly what is established and what is still being studied.

Can it help with trauma?

The foundation steps — the first three — are where much of that steadying begins, and many readers feel it there. But the practice is not a substitute for professional mental-health care. If you are carrying something heavy, work with a qualified practitioner alongside the steps, not in place of one.

Is it safe?

Yes, practised as intended. Every step holds the same 7 Hz beat as a stable container — a rate that sits at the theta–alpha border — and the frequency returns exist precisely to prevent premature advancement. If you live with a serious medical or psychological condition, consult a professional before beginning — and keep the volume gentle.

What does it cost?

Nothing, to begin with. Seeker is free forever, not a trial: the full 125-question Constitutional Types Assessment and your result, both PDFs, the public catalogue and posts, the first three steps of the practice, and Ask across the open corpus. The core audio is free on TikTok and YouTube, and the community is free to join. If the practice takes hold, Practitioner is $9 a month or $90 a year and opens the complete 12-Stage Journey and the full book; Scholar is $29 a month or $290 a year and opens the Lycaeum research shelf. The book in print is $24.95.

Is it suitable for children?

The constitutional assessment can help you understand a child’s nature, and that alone is worth having. The full twelve-step practice, though, is written for adults — walk it yourself before considering how any part of it might serve the young.

What if I already follow another tradition?

Then this will most likely complement it rather than compete with it. The architecture underneath is meant to be universal, not exclusive — a way of reading more deeply into what you already practise, not a wall built around it.

How will I know it is working?

By the returns. The practice revisits earlier ground at higher turns of the spiral, and those returns test whether a gain has genuinely integrated or merely been visited. When a later step re-sounds an earlier one and it holds under ordinary life — that is the confirmation.
