SUMMARY

In summary, everything in Magic reduces to the development of the will and the application of this action to Nature.

What are the methods of this development?

One can see in Hamlet a scene in which a courtier wishes to act upon souls, while, as the hero disdainfully points out to him, he does not know how one draws sounds from an instrument of wood.

It often happens that those who occupy themselves with these questions receive a note worded thus: « Sir, could you put me in a position, by return of post, to master the elements and to be superior to other men? »

What would a great painter say if he were asked to make "an artist" of a peasant's son in a few days?

All the arts demand preparatory studies. It is the same with Magic. We shall, moreover, furnish all the known methods of training the will in our Traité élémentaire de Magie pratique.

For the moment we shall summarize all that precedes by citing the conclusions of three authors: first those of Wronski, one of the most eminent thinkers of the xixth century; then those of a theosophical writer, a former medium who, despite her love of violent polemics, has for once managed to depart from her not very praiseworthy habits: H. P. Blavatsky; finally those of Fabre d'Olivet, a Western author more profound than all the Hindu theosophists put together, and, moreover, entirely unknown to them.
