113° Humanity is the brain of the earth. Every human being is a nerve cell of the earth; every human soul is an idea of the earth. We are all bound together like the cells of a single organ. The individual evolution of the human being is, consequently, tied to the collective evolution of the whole of humanity. The misfortune of some thus falls back upon the happiness of others. So long as there are unhappy humans, none can exist who is completely happy. The Universe. 14° Life is carried to every point of the human organism by the blood corpuscles under the directing action of the perispirit (great sympathetic nerve). Each of these blood corpuscles is a real being, constituted analogically like the organism itself. 15° The human being draws the force necessary to vitalize these corpuscles, and consequently to organize the perispirit, from the surrounding air. Man's organs draw the force necessary to vitalize themselves from the surrounding blood medium. Blood is thus to the organs what air is to the whole being. 16° The earth draws the elements necessary to vitalize all the beings on its surface (beings that are its true organs) from the sunlight in which it is bathed, as are all the planets of our system.
217° Sunlight acts toward the planets as blood acts toward the organs, and, just as blood contains a multitude of real beings, under the name of blood corpuscles, so too the streams of light contain a multitude of beings perceptible to seers, beings constituting unconscious forces (elementals) or conscious and willing beings (elementaries — spirits). 18° All these considerations tend to show that every planet is a real, living being, possessing a body, a perispirit or mediator, and a soul. Further still, that every planet so constituted is but an organ of a likewise living being: the Universe. 19° Lastly, if we consider that man is formed of an immense quantity of cells of different shapes and functions, and that the removal of any given part of these cells (e.g., amputation) takes nothing away from the integrity of that man's consciousness, we shall see that the material body cannot act upon this intimate consciousness, independent of it and immortal, related only to the perispirit, the astral body of the occultists, the plastic mediator of Paracelsus and of Van Helmont.
320° Likewise, the material Universe, conceived in its totality, forms the Body of the Supreme Being named God by the Religions. The Humanity of all the planets, the great Adam-Eve of Esotericism, is the life or the soul of this supreme being. Lastly, the Spirit of this Being, or of these Beings, is independent of the rest of creation, just as the consciousness of man, his soul, is independent of his material organism. Occultism thus defines God: Synthesis of the visible and invisible worlds, formed: By the Universe as Body (object of study of the Materialists); By humanity as Life (object of study of the Pantheists); By himself as Spirit (object of study of the Theists). SUMMARY To sum up all the teachings concerning man, we shall say that birth and death, those two enigmas that have always stopped the nihilist materialists in their tracks, are the keys to occultism and to spiritism. 21° Birth appears to us as the death of the soul to the world of causes and its re-entry into the material world, or the world of effects. Death, on the contrary, appears to us as the true birth of the soul into the spiritual world. At the soul's re-entry into the world of the flesh, the bond that held the child to its mother is severed, just as, at the soul's re-entry into the spiritual world, the perispirit that served to bind and subject the soul to that body is severed from the material body.
