1Technique. LES THÉORIES THÉOSOPHIQUES Exposé du Bouddhisme ésotérique par M“c la Duchesse de Pomar. Nous ne pouvons mieux résumer tout ce que nous venons de développer qu’en reproduisant in-extenso l’étude sur le Bouddhisme ésotérique de Sinnett publié par Lady Caithness, duchesse de Pomar1. Le lecteur sera mis à même par cette lecture de voir quels sont les développements originaux que nous avons produits dans notre étude précédente. — Plusieurs des théories données ici en germes ont été développées considérablement par leur rapprochement avec les connaissances scientifiques actuelles d'une part et avec la tradition occidentale résumée par Fabre d’Olivet d’autre part. On verra en comparant ces deux exposés avec les écrits d 'Origène d’une part et les véritables théories du bouddhisme 2 d’autre part que les doctrines présentées sous ce nom de Théosophie constituent un alliage parfois grossier de Bouddhisme vrai, de Gnosticisme (pour la plus grande part) et de Kabbale. Le passage de Jacob Bœhm cité par lady Caithness montre de plus que des théosophes n’ayant jamais eu aucun rapport avec l’Orient ont connu et développé la théorie des sept principes dans la rature et dans l’homme. LE BOUDDHISME ÉSOTÉRIQUE Le Bouddhisme sous sa forme ésotérique est, dit-on, identique à l’ancienne Religion — Sagesse, — Bouddhisme préhistorique ou la théosophie hermétique qui, selon nous, se retrouve dans tous les mythes mythologiques et les allégories occultistes de l’antiquité. Supposant que nos lecteurs connaissent ou connaîtront l’ouvrage de M. Sinnett, intitulé : Bouddhisme ésotérique, notre seule intention, dans ces pages, est d’attirer l’attention sur la doctrine de la constitution septénaire de l’homme et de son évolution graduelle à travers la chaîne planétaire septénaire, puis d’indiquer sa correspondance avec les autres enseignements ésotériques qui traitent ce sujet profondément intéressant.

1Technique. THEOSOPHICAL THEORIES An Account of Esoteric Buddhism by Mme la Duchesse de Pomar. We cannot better sum up all that we have just set forth than by reproducing in full the study on Sinnett's Esoteric Buddhism, published by Lady Caithness, Duchesse de Pomar1. The reader will thus be able to see for himself what original developments we have produced in our preceding study. — Several of the theories given here in germ have been considerably developed through their being brought together, on the one hand, with present-day scientific knowledge, and, on the other, with the western tradition summed up by Fabre d'Olivet. It will be seen, by comparing these two accounts with the writings of Origen, on the one hand, and the true theories of Buddhism2, on the other, that the doctrines presented under this name of Theosophy constitute an alloy, sometimes crude, of true Buddhism, of Gnosticism (for the greatest part), and of Kabbalah. The passage from Jacob Boehme cited by Lady Caithness shows, moreover, that theosophists who never had any contact whatever with the Orient nonetheless knew and developed the theory of the seven principles within nature and within man. ESOTERIC BUDDHISM Buddhism, in its esoteric form, is said to be identical with the ancient Religion — Wisdom, — prehistoric Buddhism, or the hermetic theosophy which, in our view, is found again in every mythological myth and every occultist allegory of antiquity. Assuming that our readers know or will come to know the work of M. Sinnett, entitled Esoteric Buddhism, our sole intention, in these pages, is to draw attention to the doctrine of the sevenfold constitution of man and of his gradual evolution across the sevenfold planetary chain, and then to point out its correspondence with the other esoteric teachings that treat this profoundly interesting subject.
