De toutes manières, c’est toujours un même principe dans les deux cas ; aussi ne lui a-t-on donné qu’un seul nom : LINGA SCHARIRA — LE CORPS ASTRAL. Avant d’aller plus loin, résumons la génération de ces trois principes. Je mange un morceau de pain 1 . Ce morceau de pain, après avoir subi l'élaboration digestive, se transforme en la matière d’une cellule quelconque de mon* organisme ; il devient partie intégrante de mon corps : Rupa (1er principe). Le morceau de pain peut devenir une cellule d’un muscle ou une cellule de mon poumon, ou un globule errant. Prenons ce dernier cas. Le globule fabriqué par le Ventre, grâce aux éléments absorbés, est blanc (leucocyte). Ce globule contient beaucoup de matière, mais peu de force. 2Poitrine où il est jeté dans la circulation sanguine. Le cœur envoie notre globule blanc dans le Poumon où il se trouve mis en contact avec l’air extérieur apporté par l’aspiration '. C’est alors que ce globule tout matériel se charge de force au contact de cet air. La force qu’il a prise, il en use une partie pour son usage particulier en la fixant dans son intérieur; cette partie de la force ainsi fixée c’est le second principe: la Vitalité, Jiva (2e principe) . La force que ce globule a de plus, il s’en va la porter, maintenant qu’il est devenu globule rouge, à toutes les cellules immobilisées dans le corps où elle devient la Vitalité (Jiva) de chacune de ces cellules. Si après son voyage le globule rouge possède encore de la force en excès, il va la déposer dans un magasin quelconque (ganglion nerveux) soit directement, soit par l’intermédiaire du cervelet 2. Cette force ainsi condensée sert à soutenir et à diriger la marche de tous les organes qui n’obéissent pas à la Volonté (principaux organes splanchniques et vaisseaux). Ainsi débarrassé de sa force, le globule rouge revient au cœur, qui le renvoie dans le poumon où il se charge de nouveau pour recommencer sa course. Ainsi, notons ce point que le résultat du travail du Ventre c’est de la Matière du Corps: 1° Rupa. Cette matière ne sert qu’à une chose, a supporter la force amenée directement de l'extérieur par le travail de la Poitrine. Le résultat de ce travail de la Poitrine c’est la production de deux nouvelles forces. \ . Cette idée que les globules rouges sont produits par l’évolution des globules blancs, donna lieu à des discussions contradictoires dans le monde savant en ces dernières années. 1the great sympathetic nerve. All the force that the corpuscles have not used to repair the organism goes to be placed in reserve there. From what precedes it may be seen that these principles of man are not as metaphysical as one might believe, and that one may perfectly well admit their existence, even were one the most positivist of physicians. Circulating Life, the third of our principles, may be considered in two ways, whether when it circulates, carried by the corpuscles, or when it is held in reserve within the nerve ganglia. In either case, it is always one and the same principle; and so it has been given but a single name: LINGA SCHARIRA — THE ASTRAL BODY. Before going further, let us sum up the generation of these three principles. I eat a piece of bread 1 . This piece of bread, after having undergone the process of digestion, transforms itself into the matter of some cell or other of my organism; it becomes an integral part of my body: Rupa (1er principle). The piece of bread may become a cell of a muscle, or a cell of my lung, or a wandering corpuscle. Let us take this last case. The corpuscle manufactured by the Belly, thanks to the elements absorbed, is white (leucocyte). This corpuscle contains much matter, but little force. 2Chest, where it is thrown into the blood circulation. The heart sends our white corpuscle into the Lung, where it finds itself brought into contact with the outside air, brought in by inspiration '. It is then that this wholly material corpuscle charges itself with force through contact with this air. Of the force it has taken, it uses a part for its own particular use, by fixing it within itself; this portion of the force thus fixed is the second principle: Vitality, Jiva (2e principe) . The remaining force that this corpuscle has, it goes off to carry it, now that it has become a red corpuscle, to all the cells immobilized within the body, where it becomes the Vitality (Jiva) of each of these cells. If, after its journey, the red corpuscle still possesses an excess of force, it goes to deposit it in some storehouse or other (nerve ganglion), either directly, or by way of the cerebellum 2. This force, thus condensed, serves to sustain and to direct the working of all the organs that do not obey the Will (chiefly the splanchnic organs and vessels). Thus relieved of its force, the red corpuscle returns to the heart, which sends it back into the lung, where it charges itself anew, to begin its course again. Thus, let us note this point: the result of the Belly's work is the Matter of the Body: 1° Rupa. This matter serves only one purpose, to sustain the force brought directly from outside by the work of the Chest. The result of this work of the Chest is the production of two new forces. \ . This idea, that red corpuscles are produced by the evolution of white corpuscles, gave rise to conflicting discussions in the scientific world in these last years. 32° Vitality, a combination of Life with the material body. 3° The Astral Body, the highest portion of the corporeal production, the nervous force running through the organism, capable of condensing itself, but also of dilating itself so much that it can pass outside the HUMAN being. Matter served as a support for Life; nervous force, the spiritualization of Life, will serve as a support for the Soul. Such are the rungs that matter climbs through in its evolution, and in its contact with the force of the terrestrial atmosphere. Let us sum up these three degrees, all belonging to the Physical Body.
