Thus we are obliged, given the poverty of abstraction in our European languages, to study separately the meaning and relations of the ten divine names, then the meaning and relations of the ten numbers, all in their various senses. Now, all this, name, idea and number, is found synthesized in each of the hieroglyphs, whether one speaks of the divine name or one enunciates the Sephiroth. The analogical tables placed at the end of our study will barely serve to give an idea of this synthetic spirit of antiquity. These names (which all have a secret meaning developed in detail in the writings of the kabbalists) deserve to draw our particular attention. ■k + * The first among them Ehieh is often written by the simple letter (iod). In this case it simply signifies MOI. Lacour in his book Les Æloïm ou Dieux de Moïse shows that this word gave birth to the Greek always. Ehieh thus signifies exactly the Always and one understands how the letter iod which expresses the beginning and the end of everything can represent it. I. The name IEVE or 10HA, which must never be pronounced by the profane, is replaced by the word tetragrammaton or the word adonaï (lord).
2— 497 — This name mystically written in a triangle by three iod thus: ) ) 1 represents the three principal attributes of the divinity emanating creation, from the Always giving birth to temporal measures. The first iod indeed shows Eternity giving birth to Time in its triple division: Past, Present and Future. This is Number. This is the Father. ★ * + The second iod shows the Infinite giving birth to Space in its triple division of length, width and depth. This is Measure. This is the Son. The third iod represents eternal Substance giving birth to Matter in its triple specification of Solid, Liquid and Gaseous. This is Weight. This is the Holy Spirit. Gather together into one whole Time, Space and Matter and the eternal and infinite Substance, and the Always will manifest itself. Hence the following representation of this divine name by the kabbalists: 32 — 498 —
3The correspondences of this name are thus given by Agrippa, one of the most powerful kabbalists known1. 1° Eheie, the name of divine essence: Numeration: keter (crown, diadem), signifies the most simple being of the divinity, it is called that which the eye has not seen. It is attributed to God the Father and it influences the order of the Seraphim, or, as the Hebrews say, Haioth Hacadosch, that is to say in Latin animalia sanctitatis, the famous animals of holiness, and from there, through the first mobile, liberally gives the name of being to all things filling the Universe throughout its whole circumference down to the center. Its particular intelligence is called Mithatron (Prince of Faces) whose office is to introduce the others before the face of the Prince, and it is by the ministry of this one that the Lord spoke to Moses. 2° Name Iah: Iod or Tetragrammaton joined with Iod; numeration Hochena. (, sapientia). Signifies divinity full of ideas and firstborn and is attributed to the son. It influences through the order of the cherubim (which the Hebrews name Ophanim) upon the forms or the wheels and from there upon the heaven of the stars, fashioning as many figures as it contains ideas within itself, disentangling the chaos or confusion of matter through the ministry of its particular intelligence named Raziel who was the governor of Adam. 3° Name: IEYE — niH* . This name, one of the most mysterious of Hebrew theology, expresses one of the most astonishing natural laws we know. It is thanks to the discovery of some of its properties that we were able to give the complete explanation of the Tarot2, an explanation that had never been given until now. Here is how we analyze this divine name: THE KABBALISTIC WORD (iod-hé-vau-hé). If we are to believe the ancient oral tradition of the Hebrews or Kabbalah, there exists a sacred word which gives, to the mortal who discovers its true pronunciation, the key to all the divine sciences and 1.
