2logiquement le corps, la vitalité, le corps astral, l’âme animale et l’âme humaine. A quoi peut bien servir de point d’appui cette âme humaine, produit supérieur de l’évolution de la force nerveuse? Où localiser les principes qui sont au-dessus de cette âme humaine ? D’après l’ésotérisme, cette intelligence, cette faculté d’apprendre les sciences qui peuple nos sociétés de diplômés et nos académies d’immortels, est la faculté la plus inférieure, la plus grossière de l’être humain, c’est la matière du corps psychique. De même que le troisième principe, le corps astral, était commun au monde physique et au monde astral, de même le cinquième principe, l’âme humaine, est commun au corps astral et au corps psychique. Supérieur pour celui-là, inférieur pour celui-ci. C’est toujours l’idée de l’absorption des séries inférieures par les séries supérieures, le Père, roi chez lui et sujet du gouvernement. Les circonvolutions moyennes du cerveau servent bien de moyen de manifestation à l’intellectualité, mais les circonvolutions supérieures servent de moyen de manifestation à une faculté bien plus élevée, celle qui causera l’élévation de la vie psychique de l’être : la moralité ou l’ame spirituelle, Buddhi, le 6° principe, la vie réelle de l’être psychique'.
3I. Cette faculté merveilleuse dont nous sommes si fiers n’est cependant que la plus inférieure de l’Esprit lui-même. Le savant, pour aussi célèbre qu’il soit, peut, après sa mort, être moins bien traité par son Karma qu’un ignorant vertueux. L’ésotérisme place en effet la Sagesse au-dessus de la Science; la Spiritualité au-dessus de 1 ’Intellectualité. Un sage ou être spirituel est celui qui a évolué au 6e principe, tandis que le savant n’a évolué qu’au 5°. O ù. est donc localisé le 6e principe? Il n’est pas localisé, ou du moins il l’est fort peu, dans les cellules nerveuses du sommet de la tête. A lui s’arrêtent en effet la Science et ses méthodes. Le savant ne peut le comprendre. L’occultiste seul peut en saisir toute la portée. — 217 — Ce 6e principe, est-il utile de le dire? est à peine développé dans les races humaines actuelles ; il en est de même du suivant. Au-dessus de tous ces principes et les dominant tous se trouve le germe de divinité que chaque homme peut développer et qui le conduirait au Nirvana de suite : L’ame divine — Atma , le 7° principe — L’esprit. Mais cet esprit ri entre jamais complètement dans l'être. Il reste au-dessus de lui et constitue son higher-self , son idéal , son Dieu, ainsi que Ta vu M. 2-logically the body, vitality, the astral body, the animal soul, and the human soul. What, then, may this human soul, the higher product of the evolution of the nervous force, serve as a point of support for? Where are we to localize the principles that stand above this human soul? According to esotericism, this intelligence, this faculty of learning the sciences that populates our societies with graduates and our academies with immortals, is the lowest, the coarsest faculty of the human being; it is the matter of the psychic body. Just as the third principle, the astral body, was common to the physical world and to the astral world, so likewise the fifth principle, the human soul, is common to the astral body and to the psychic body. Superior for the one, inferior for the other. It is always the idea of the absorption of the inferior series by the superior series — the Father, king in his own house, and subject of the government. The middle convolutions of the brain do indeed serve as the means of manifestation for intellectuality, but the superior convolutions serve as the means of manifestation for a far loftier faculty, the one that will bring about the elevation of the psychic life of the being: morality, or the spiritual soul, Buddhi, the 6° principle, the true life of the psychic being.
31. This marvelous faculty of which we are so proud is, nevertheless, only the lowest faculty of Spirit itself. The scholar, however celebrated he may be, may, after his death, be treated less well by his Karma than a virtuous ignorant man. Esotericism places, indeed, Wisdom above Science; Spirituality above Intellectuality. A sage, or spiritual being, is one who has evolved to the 6e principle, whereas the scholar has evolved only to the 5°. Where, then, is the 6e principle localized? It is not localized, or at least very little so, within the nerve cells at the crown of the head. There, indeed, Science and its methods come to a stop. The scholar cannot understand it. The occultist alone can grasp its full scope. — 217 — This 6e principle — need it be said? — is scarcely developed in present-day human races; it is the same with the one that follows. Above all these principles, and dominating them all, is found the germ of divinity that every man may develop, and which would lead him at once to Nirvana: The divine soul — Atma , the 7° principle — the Spirit. But this spirit never enters completely into the being. It remains above him, and constitutes his higher-self , his ideal , his God, as M. Sinnet has seen, and, before him, Wronski, and as the fact is likewise described in the Schematic figure showing the position of the 7e principle with respect to man. — 218 —
