Cela nous conduit à quitter un peu cette évolution générale d’un monde pour voir ce qui se passe dans une des planètes. Nous prendrons comme exemple celle d’entre elles qui nous intéresse le plus : la Terre. § 4. — « LA VAGUE DE VIE » DANS UNE PLANÈTE QUELQUES MOTS DE l’iIISTOIRE DE LA TERRE. LES RACES HUMAINES Deux Sciences se sont principalement occupées de Thistoire de la Terre, l’IIistoire proprement dite s’intéressant surtout aux faits et la Géologie étudiant le développement des diverses couches terrestres et les êtres qu’elles renferment. Il est assez difficile à l’heure actuelle de concilier ces deux sciences avec les seules connaissances que nous possédons en Occident. Toutefois l’occultisme nous fournit certaines indications qui peuvent être par la suite fort utiles. La plus grande difficulté pour ceux qui sont élevés dans nos écoles est de vaincre les fausses données historiques fournies par l’enseignement religieux sans tomber dans l’extravagance des positivistes matérialistes. Le caractère particulier de l’application de la Science occulte c’est la découverte d’un type fondamental capable de montrer des causes identiques dans des effets en apparence très différents. 2<( Vague de Vie » passe d’une planète à l’autre dans révolution des mondes. Voyons si cette idée de la vitalisation et de la mort successives des choses ne s’applique pas à la Terre. Une des différences des traditions de l’occultisme avec les enseignements contemporains, c’est celle idée que l'humanité terrestre n’est pas née en même temps et en un même lieu, ce qui rend impossible la diversité des couleurs. D’après l’occultisme, chaque continent développe, comme dans le monde chaque planète, ses minéraux, ses végétaux et ses animaux, le tout couronné par une race humaine particulière. L’évolution d’un continent comprend donc quatre grandes périodes : 1° Assise et développement du règne minéral; 2° Développement du règne végétal ; 11° Développement du règne animal ; 4° Développement et perfectionnement d’une race humaine. Chacune de ces périodes se subdivise à son tour en une foule de périodes secondaires. Ainsi chaque race humaine comprend trois ou sept sous-races (suivant les écoles). Chacune d’elles a son évolution spéciale. Avec les éléments que nous possédons maintenant nous pouvons dresser le tableau de l’évolution des continents. Cette question a été particulièrement abordée par Fabre d'Olivet, qui donna dès 1825 certaines idées très curieuses à ce sujet ’. Les traditions de tous les peuples sur presque tous les points du globe sont unanimes pour affirmer que dans une époque très éloignée, une masse énorme de la Terre s’est 1. This leads us to leave, for a while, this general evolution of a world, in order to see what takes place upon one of the planets. We shall take, as our example, the one among them that interests us most: the Earth. § 4. — « THE WAVE OF LIFE » WITHIN A PLANET A FEW WORDS ON THE HISTORY OF THE EARTH. THE HUMAN RACES Two Sciences have chiefly occupied themselves with the history of the Earth: History properly so called, concerning itself above all with facts, and Geology, studying the development of the various terrestrial strata and the beings they contain. It is rather difficult, at the present time, to reconcile these two sciences with the only knowledge we possess in the West. Nevertheless, occultism furnishes us with certain indications that may later prove very useful. The greatest difficulty for those who are raised within our schools is to overcome the false historical data furnished by religious teaching, without falling into the extravagance of the materialist positivists. The particular character of the application of Occult Science is the discovery of a fundamental type capable of showing identical causes within effects that appear very different. We have just seen a certain law according to which the 1Ü1
2the « Wave of Life » passes from one planet to another in the evolution of the worlds. Let us see whether this idea of the successive vitalization and death of things does not apply to the Earth as well. One of the differences between the traditions of occultism and contemporary teachings is this idea, that terrestrial humanity was not born at the same time and in the same place, which renders the diversity of colors impossible to explain otherwise. According to occultism, each continent develops, as does each planet within the world, its minerals, its plants, and its animals, the whole crowned by a particular human race. The evolution of a continent thus comprises four great periods: 1° The laying down and development of the mineral kingdom; 2° The development of the vegetable kingdom; 11° The development of the animal kingdom; 4° The development and perfecting of a human race. Each of these periods is in turn subdivided into a host of secondary periods. Thus each human race comprises three or seven sub-races (according to the different schools). Each of them has its own special evolution. With the elements we now possess, we can draw up the table of the evolution of the continents. This question was particularly taken up by Fabre d'Olivet, who, as early as 1825, gave certain very curious ideas on this subject '. The traditions of all peoples, in almost every part of the globe, are unanimous in affirming that, at a very distant epoch, an enormous mass of the Earth 1.
