3FORMATION DES MÉDIUMS Des données précédentes, nous pouvons tirer certaines règles pratiques qui pourront servir à la formation des médiums, si nos observations sont justes. Les tentatives faites jusqu’ici pour créer des écoles de médiums ont toujours avorté, nous croyons qu’il est facile maintenant de voir pourquoi, ainsi que le prouve ce qui suit. La première condition est le choix du futur médium. Comment s’y prend-on aujourd’hui? On forme un groupe tant bien que mal et on laisse la médiumnité se développer 'seule et un peu au hasard. Au bout de quelque temps les rivalités ne tardent pas à naître entre les diverses personnes qui se croient douées de quelque médiumnité. La jalousie, l’envie et les petites rancunes sourdes s’en mêlent bientôt, les querelles éclatent et le groupe ne tarde pas à se dissoudre sans permettre aux divers médiums de se développer convenablement. Comment pourrait-on faire? Supposons que nous ayons à former un groupe de personnes instruites, désirant se rendre compte des phénomènes. 3FORMATION OF MEDIUMS From the preceding data, we can draw certain practical rules that may serve for the formation of mediums, if our observations are correct. The attempts made until now to create schools of mediums have always failed; we believe it is now easy to see why, as what follows will prove. The first condition is the choice of the future medium. How does one go about it today? A group is formed more or less haphazardly and mediumship is left to develop on its own, somewhat at random. After some time, rivalries do not fail to arise among the various persons who believe themselves gifted with some mediumship. Jealousy, envy and petty smoldering grudges soon come into play, quarrels break out, and the group is not slow to dissolve without allowing the various mediums to develop properly. How could one go about it? Suppose we had to form a group of educated persons, wishing to satisfy themselves as to the phenomena. Two methods can be employed: 1° Take a subject already fully formed; 2° Form one. I think that the key point to secure above all is the possession of a good subject, capable of producing the three hypnotic phases. To secure this subject, one will begin by trying, among the persons present, especially among the ladies devoted to the cause and who ask to become mediums, — 887 —
