38. Nothing, nevertheless, dissipates itself in the creature, except the spirit produced by the will, and its body which is in the fiat; the figure remains eternally like a shadow, and that figure could not have been thus brought into form, to the light and to visibility or to appearance, so as to subsist eternally, if it had not been in being 5 but also now, it can no longer break, for there is no substance in it. The centre in the source is broken, and is gone into its Ether, and the figure operates neither good nor evil, but remains eternally for the glory and the marvel of God and for the joy of the angels.

39. For, when the third principle of this material world shall break, and shall go into its Ether, then there shall remain the shadow of every creature, as well as of every vegetation, and of all that came to the light; even so also each word and each work shall have its shadow and its figure, and that shall be unseizable, as well as without intelligence and with9out knowledge, like a nothing or a shadow before 4the light.

40. Such was the plan of the great and impenetrable God, in his will 5 and it is for that that he created all things. And after this world there shall be nothing but light and darknesses; in each of those two

CH. 5. ( 143 )

things, the source shall dwell, as that has been in eternity. There, none shall seize the other, as also that has never taken place in eternity.

4j. But, after this world, will God produce yet of his will something more? That is not within the reach of my spirit, for it reaches no further than into its centre, wherein it lives, wherein is paradise and the celestial kingdom, as thou wilt be able to read, at the creation of man.

42. Thus the angels and the holy men dwell in the eternal generation of the light; and the spirits emigrated from the light, in the torment; and the spirits of the impious men, in the eternal darknesses. There there shall be no return, for their spirits can no longer return into the transitory and destructible order; they are created of the limbus of God, of the astringent matrix, whence originises from all eternity the light of God, and not at all of the extra-generation like the animals which issued from the limbus of the plan conceived by God; which limbus has an end, and they were here only in order that there might be eternally a shadow and a figure of their existence. 43. The eternal will is imperishable and invariable 5 for the heart of God is begotten of him, and he is the limit of nature and of the will. If the spirits which are in torment had borne their imagination and their ardent will before them, into the light of the sweetness, into the final end of nature, then they would have remained angels. But as they willed, by pride, to dominate above

( i44 CR. gf.

the sweetness and the limit of nature, and as they awakened the centre, then they find nothing more, for there was nothing more in eternity 5 it is why they awakened the centre of the torment in themselves; they have it now, and were cast from the light into the darknesses.

44. Conceive then in that sort God, paradise, the celestial kingdom, and hell, as well as the beginning and the end of the creatures, and the creation of this world. But art thou born of God? Without that condition, the veil will be as well before thee as before Moses. It is why Christ says: Seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. When a child asks an egg of his father, his father gives him not a scorpion. Further: My father will give the holy spirit to him who shall ask it of him.

45. It is why, if thou hearest not this writing, do not as Lucifer did, take not at once the spirit of pride and of disdain, and send not back this writing to the demon. But seek the humble heart of God; it will bring into thy soul a little grain of mustard seed of the vegetation of paradise, and if thou persevere in patience, there may grow of it a great tree, as thou mayest think it thus arrived to this author; for he must be regarded as a simple person in comparison with the learned. But Christ says: My power is strong in the weak. Yes, my father, thou hast so willed it, that that should be hidden from the prudent and the wise, and that it should be revealed to the little children, in order that the wisdom of this world might be a folly before thee. And although the

CH. 9. \^^}

children of this world be wiser in their affairs than the children of light, nevertheless their wisdom is a perishable thing; but that other wisdom dwells eternally.
