He.

117. We see that all is conformable to what has been exposed; in effect, when Christ had surmounted the temptation, and when he had resisted forty days, he entirely vanquished, until he obtained the last victory in death ( for Adam remained as long in the temptation in the garden of Eden ). Then he commenced his sacerdotal kingdom, as a king over heaven and over earth, with marvels and prodigies; and, for his first miracle, he transformed water into good wine; he healed also sick people, made blind men see, lame men walk; he rendered lepers whole; he raised also the dead, and showed himself as the true king over the dead and over the living; he sat upon the throne of the promise of David. He was the true priest, according to the order of Melchisedec: all that Aaron had been in image in the power of the father, this great priest Christ was in effectivity, with marvels and works, which we shall expose and write clearly in another book after this one, if we live, and if God permit it us.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THIRD.
Of the very precious testaments of Christ, to wit: of the baptism and of his last supper that he made with his disciples, on the thursday at evening. What ,1he has left us as his last will.
The noblest of all the gates of christianism.
I. It is known how much until now men have contested in Babel, upon the subject of the cup of Christ and of his
holy testaments. Men have also, upon this subject, excited great wars, and shed much blood. But what light has come back to b1 upon these matters? 0One sees it in their works and in the love that they have among them. One sees what their decisions have produced, by which men have shut the mouth of the holy spirit, and have made of the priesthood of Christ a worldly government.
2 O! you, great priests, and learned men in the scriptures, what will you answer to the Christ, when men shall see you such as you are? where do you presume that you may be hidden? Ah! you are before the clear face of Jesus-Christ, who is here a judge of the living and of the dead. Open at least your eyes and feed in justice the flock of Jesus-
( 2^6 ) CH. 23.
Christ: he comes, and he will ask back of you his sheep. You are not all pastors; there are some who are like invading and covetous wolves. You repose upon the subtleties of your schools. Oh, that serves for nothing before God; the holy spirit speaks not of these objects; it lets not itself be enchained. Will you be pastors of Christ? Hold firm in the temptation, put on the habit of the lamb over your heart, and regard not the wool of the sheep of the flock as belonging only to you. You must distribute to them the aliment of the holy spirit in a true love, and begin by nourishing yourselves with it. But how will you give them this nourishment, if you are always in the desert, in the last temptation? You have chosen for yourselves the kingdom of this world. However what must one say upon that? is the anger not kindled? It remains to you only to bring wood to it; for Babel burns, the water is dried up. Or rather what have I to do with you, that I should write thus?
3. We have shown in a few words the homification and the birth of Jesus-Christ, son of God. But nevertheless we are still only terrestrial and we cannot in any manner comprehend them: thus we remain there, and we ask: Where then is the Christ with his body? where must we seek him? That is why our soul has a desire to write upon his universal presence, and that, in spite of the furies and the tempests of the demon and of the antichrist.
