«H. 23. ( 269 )

27. I could demonstrate that to thee clearly in the kingdom of this world; yes, in all things; thou couldst name me nothing, where I could not demonstrate it to thee, if God permitted it to us. But as that would demand too much room, I will write a particular book of it, if God permit.

28. It is why, my dear soul, be living and see what thy noble spouse has left thee for legacy in his testaments. To wit principally, in the baptism, the water of his alliance, of his holy body come from the original. Here, in this world, or in the extra-generation of his body we recognise four things 5 to wit: the fire, the air, the water and the earth, in which our terrestrial body consists.

29. These same four things exist also in the celestial body. The fire is the enkindling of the divine desire. The water is what the fire begets, and what makes that the fire becomes sweet and a light. The air is the spirit of the kingdom of joy; it blows the fire, and operates the mobility in the water. And the earth is the real substance which is begotten in the three, and is truly called the holy ternary. In this holy ternary the tincture is begotten in the light of the sweetness; in this sweet light the holy blood is begotten of the water as an aqueous oil,

( 268 ) CH. a3,

in which the light shines, and in whom exists the spirit of life.

3o. Behold how these things must be conceived. The water of the eternal life is in the limbus of God, in the holy ternary, and it is there the water which baptises the soul5when we make use of the formula of his testament • for the soul is steeped in the alliance of the Christ; it is in this same water that she is washed, and it is a true bath of regeneration. For by the immersion in the holy water, she is conceived and reanimated by this holy water; she comes into the alliance of Christ, into the soul of Christ; in truth, not into the soul, but into his body: she becomes a brother of the soul of Christ. In effect the soul of the Christ is a creature like ours; she is enveloped thereby in the body of the mercy, in the trinity; she possesses in herself the body, as her nourishment and her restorative, and it is thus that our souls are the brothers of the soul of the Christ, in the alliance, if they remain faithful to God.

3i. For the Christ has taken of us, men, in Mary, this pledge, or our soul. Also that whereof we shall rejoice in eternity, is that the soul of the Christ is our brother, and that the body of the Christ is our body in the new man.

32. Could I not rejoice that my soul is in the body of the Christ, and that the soul of the Christ is my brother, and the holy trinity the nourishment and the force of my soul? Who is it that shall judge me, arrest me, or ruin me, if I am in my true man in God? If I am immortal in

«H. 23. ( 269 )

my new man, of what should I then be so affrighted in my terrestrial body, which belongs to the earth? Let each take what belongs to him then my soul shall be freed from the instigator.

33. But what must I say? must I not in this body, that I bear here, in the terrestreity, reveal the marvels of God by the new man that thus his marvels may be manifested? I speak not only of myself, but of all men good and bad. Each must, in his reign, open the great marvels in which he is, whether in the love, or in the anger. All shall remain in figure after the rupture of this world; for this world is still in the creative act, and in seed, or in the fiat, and it is as a field which bears fruit.

34. Thus each of us shall pursue and finish his daily labour in his field; and at the harvest, each shall exist in his work, and shall enjoy the production that he shall have sown. It is why my hand must not weary of digging. We say it seriously: that is highly and preciously known in the marvels of God, in the counsel of the noble virgin sophia.
