32. Maintenant on demande : Pourquoi te nomme-t-on l'antechrist ? Ecoute.

27. From this thou canst recognise and establish how the kingdom of this world has been begotten; how the one is in the other, and how the one is the coffer and the container of the other. There however there is compression for no thing, but all is free in itself; man is manifested in all the three principles, and nevertheless knows none of them in the base, unless he be begotten of the darkness into the light. Then this same source knows the choleric eternity, and besides the generation of eternity; but it is not possible for him to scrutinise to the bottom the light; for he is enveloped in it, and it is his dwelling. It is thus that he is by this body, in this world; by the origin of the soul, in the anger of the eternal source; and by the noble flower of the soul, in the kingdom of heaven near God. And he is a prince in heaven, and dominating over hell and the earth: for the choleric source touches him not; but the flower makes, of the source

( 194 ) y en. at.'

choleric, the paradise of joy which rises highly in the source.

a?. And thou seest, terrestrial man, how thou livest here in three principles, provided that the affective base incline toward God; but if it incline only toward the source of this world, then thou remainest before heaven, and thou sowest with two principles; to wit: with the spirit of this world, and with the choleric source of eternity.

The source of the antichristian kingdom,

^9. Man has possessed this world, and has built himself a pompous region for his glory, as that is seen. Now, in truth he is not lost for that ( although it be a cause of sins ), since God has sent him in the flesh, by his grace, his precious heart, so that he might, by this same heart, return from the flesh into the celestial reign. But now his terrestrial body must have its nourishment, so that it may live and reproduce itself; and the governments and the arts of this world exist by this necessity, of which the terrestrial body cannot do without. These régimes and these arts are supported by the divine patience, so that the four marvels may be manifested.

3o. But his condemnation is that he sows only the terrestrial and infernal seed, and that he leaves the celestial seed in its reservoir; he remains before heaven, and runs not for that after the noble seed; but he gives God good

c-if. 21, ( 193 )

words, so that he may be favourable to him, and admit him into his kingdom; and he sows only the wild plants of the demon in the body and in the soul. What then shall be the new body which shall grow? shall it be in heaven, in the holy element, or else in the abyss? or else must one cast the pearls before the swine?

3i. If thy constructor builds not in thee the image of God, but the image of the serpent, how wilt thou conduct thy beast into the kingdom of heaven? thinkest thou that God receives vipers and asps into the broken gates of regeneration, into the glorious habitation? or else thinkest thou that he is curious of thy hypocrisy, by which thou hast built him great houses of stone, where thou displayest thy falseness and thy pomp? can he make account of thy ringings and of thy chants, if thy heart is a murderer and a devourer? He will have a regenerated man who approaches him in justice and in the fear of God. It is he whom the bruiser of the serpent takes in his arms; he forms him into celestial image and it is a child of heaven and not like thee, a cunning animal.

32. Now one asks: Why art thou named the antichrist? Hear. Thou art the counter-christ, and thou hast built thyself an apparent and knavish reign, with a great pomp where thou exercisest thy hypocrisy. Thou bearest the laws of God upon thy lips, and thou teachest them; but thou deniest them by thy domination and thy works. Thy heart is inclined only to the spirit of this world; thy reign of hypocrisy is directed only toward II. i3

thy glory, so that thou mayest be in evidence. Men must bend the knees before thee, as if thou wert the Christ, and thou hast a covetous heart, like to that of a devouring wolf.

33. Thou boastest of having the keys of heaven, and thou «8 art thyself in the abyss. Thy heart is suspended to this heaven and not to the heart of God. Thou hast put thy key into the treasure, and not into the gates of the breaking, into the confidence in God; thou makest laws, and thou observest none of them [ I have suppressed here some superfluous repetitions. ]
