brake the head of the serpent ( of the demon and of all the devils ), and took them prisoners. Thou must understand by that that the interior element which embraces the universal body of this world, is become the eternal body of the Christ. For then all the divinity entered into the word and into the heart of God; she married herself there to dwell there eternally, and this same divinity is become a creature; but such a creature that she may be everywhere as the divinity itself. Now, this same creature has enclosed all the demons in the kingdom of this world; and all the men who by their affective base draw near to this Christ and desire him in a sincere ardour, shall be attracted by the spirit of the father, that is to say, by the clear and pure divinity, into this humanity of the Christ, that is to say, finally, into the pure element, before the trinity.

21. And if they remain firm and if they pass not anew out of God into the attract of the demon, then the noble pearl or the light of God is sown in their soul; she attracts to herself the noble body of Jesus-Christ with the paradise and the kingdom of heaven. And the true new man Christ grows, upon the soul, in the celestial virgin of the wisdom of God or the SOPHIA, in the holy ternary, in the celestial kingdom. Thus such a man is, according to the new man, in heaven, in the body of Jesus-Christ; and according to the old terrestrial man who is suspended to the holy man, he is in this world, in the house of sin; the divinity actuates the new man; and the spirit of this world, the old man, until he lay it down in death. For he is a man begotten

in heaven, in the mercy of God, in the body of Jesus-Christ. ( He is in the heaven of eternity by

the soul of the internal man in the new generation; and by the external and mortal man, he is in the vanity of time, in which the yoke of sin lives still.) , 22. I present here a profound thing. See, how the thrones and the angelic princes were perceived in the beginning by the wisdom of God; it is this glance that the fiat seized to create it, and to develop in the angelic thrones the infinite multiplicity; the whole according to the eternal wisdom in the marvels of God, which have all been created in the fiat of God according to all the essences of the eternal limbus of God, so that all the angels in each throne give their will to the angel princes in the throne, as that is clear enough in the fall of Lucifer, and as that is recognised also in the regions of the royal governments of this world; if however the demon had not thus destroyed the true union! for unhappily that is but too manifest.

23. Thou, noble and most precious soul, comprehend us then also in this sense. This second, sublime and precious creation is in the fiat. When God saw and recognised our lamentable fall, he contemplated himself by the holy, eternal virgin of his wisdom, in his eternal marvels, in the mercy, which is always begotten of his heart; he embraced by his glance the throne; he contemplated himself more profoundly in the throne, in infinities without number. He established there his alliance by

( 266 ) CH. 23«

his oath, by the precious promise of the seed of the woman.

24. My most dear soul, conceive the thing thus. This same throne, when the time of his alliance was opened, became in time a great angelic prince in the mercy of God, in the holy and pure element, in the holy ternary (that is to say, in the holy earth in which the divinity has been recognised substantially), so that thus all the divine mercy which is incommensurable; which is also equally great in the holy element; which contains the heaven and the world, became a man, that is to say, a substantial similitude of the spirit of the trinity. In this man the trinity dwells with all its plenitude (cul. 2: 9). Now, in this great prince of angelic throne has existed from the beginning and from all eternity, the glance or the perceived, in the infinite multiplicity of all the essences, in the limbus of the father; and this perceived has been truly manifested by the fiat, in the time of the promise.

25. Thus to-day still all things are in the creative act or in the fiat; and the creation shall have no end until the judgment of God. There all that shall have grown in the holy tree shall be separated from the impious brambles and from the thorns. We men, we are these innumerable perceiveds in the fiat of the prince throne; those who are holy shall be begotten and formed in the body of this prince who is in God. But those who degrade themselves, shall be cast to the swine of the demon, as a rotten fruit.

cp. 25. ( %Sj )

a6. Thus we have been chosen in Jesus-Christ, before the foundation of the world was laid, that we should be his angels and his ministers in his sublime throne of prince, in the body of his element, in which his spirit or the holy trinity comes to dwell.
