1convinced of his reconciliation, bound himself to operate exactly the divine worship in future. He fixed the time when he and his posterity should operate it. To this effect he made, within one same ordinary day, four divine operations, by four intervals, of six hours each. He then made, during six consecutive days, an operation of divine spiritual vigil; which makes in all ten operations in seven days of time. The total of these operations comprehends the denary number consecrated to the Divinity, and the septenary number consecrated to the spirit. In the four first operations, Jacob appealed solely to the Creator, invoking him by his first ineffable name; after which he said: To me the God of Abraham! He invoked the Creator by his second ineffable name and said to him: To me the God of Isaac! He invoked him finally by his third ineffable name and said: To me the God of Jacob! who is the same as that of Abraham and of Isaac, who operates divinely in us three, as we all three operate in him in our unity of divine spiritual power. In this invocation Jacob truly recognises Abraham as type of the Creator by the multitude of spiritual powers that were given him. He recognises Isaac as the type of the divine Son, or of the divine action, in the great posterity of God that proceeded from him, wherein the election and the manifestation of the divine glory was operated. And by himself, Jacob recognises the true type of the Spirit, by the great marvels which the Creator had done for him, in showing him openly the divine glory.
2upon his creature, as Jacob has shown us by his last operation, wherein he invoked the Creator to be spread upon his posterity perverted by his example, and to deliver it thereby from the servitude of the demons; which the holy spirit effectively operated by the word of Moses. It is thence that it has been taught us that God was in three persons, and this because the Creator has operated three divine actions, distinct one from another, in favour of the three minors of whom we have just spoken, conformably to the types they are to form in the universe. These three persons are in God only in relation to their divine actions, and one cannot conceive them otherwise without degrading the Divinity, which is indivisible and which cannot be susceptible, in any fashion, of having in it different personalities distinct one from another. If it were possible to admit in the Creator distinct persons, one would then have to admit four instead of three, in relation to the fourfold divine essence which must be known to you, namely the divine spirit 10, the major spirit 7, the inferior spirit 3 and the minor spirit 4. It is there that we conceive the impossibility there is that the Creator should be divided into three personal natures. Let those who wish to divide the Creator in his essence at least take care to divide him in the content of his immensity.
3To observe for you definitively all the types made by Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, I shall tell you that these three minors were the true figure of Adam, of Abel and of Seth towards the Creator. The three first as the three last had seen the glory of the Creator. Noah, Shem and Japheth had had the same advantage. As for Esau, who remains without particular inheritance, he makes the type of Cain with Adam, that of Ham with Noah, and his own with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Not only were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob the types of the divine action operated by the divine spirit among the minors past and present, but further among the minors to come. Adam and Noah by their posterity had announced all these types. Christ, Moses, Elijah confirmed them by their operations upon mount Tabor, where they all together saw the glory of the Creator. The kiss which Jacob gave to Isaac when he had conceived of supplanting his brother announced the treason which the Man-God was to undergo on the part of one of his brothers and disciples named Judas Iscariot: the one is a supplanter of matter, the other of the spiritual. Take heed that the cupidity of matter does not lead you to repeat an iniquitous type. Such is what I had of most interest to say to you upon the persons of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob, without entering into the detail of the temporal conduct they held in this world; the Scripture says enough upon this subject.
