1Il faut vous instruire maintenant quelles furent les charges que les trois derniers fils de cette seconde postérité de Noé reçurent de la part de leur père. Ils furent ordonnés pour aller visiter les trois régions terrestres distinguées par Ouest, Sud, Nord, et habitées depuis 141 ans par la première postérité de Noé, nommée Sem, Cham, Japhet. Aussitôt qu'ils eurent reçu les instructions nécessaires pour leur mission et qu'ils se furent assurés de la volonté du Créateur par leurs opérations spirituelles divines, ils partirent avec leurs sœurs, qu'ils avaient prises comme femmes, et dont ils eurent postérité. Ils n'avaient pas besoin de porter avec eux aucunes provisions, et ils trouvèrent sur la terre de quoi fournir à leur nourriture et à tous leurs besoins corporels. L'aîné des trois fils fut, avec sa femme et sa postérité, habiter la partie du midi; le second la partie de l'ouest, avec sa femme et sa postérité; le troisième fut,

Ils allèrent chacun dans ces différentes parties du monde pour perpétuer chez leurs frères, de même que chez leur postérité, le cérémonial du culte divin, afin que ces peuples ne perdissent pas entièrement de vue le culte que le Créateur exigeait d'eux, relativement aux grâces et aux miséricordes infinies qu'ils avaient reçues de l'Éternel. Ils opérèrent de si grands prodiges spirituels parmi ces peuples, qu'ils n'eurent pas de peine à se soumettre aux instructions, aux conseils et aux leçons spirituelles divines que ces trois hommes sages répandirent chacun dans sa région, selon leur mission et l’ordre qu'ils avaient reçus. Cependant, il fallait commencer par prêcher à ces nations une doctrine purement temporelle, afin de se mettre à leur portée, et de les élever ensuite du culte temporel au culte spirituel. C'est ce qu'ils firent effectivement, ainsi que je vous le ferai connaître.
3Ces premiers peuples n'avaient pas réglé parmi eux les heures, les jours, les mois, les années, et les saisons; ils vivaient à peu près comme les brutes, si ce n'est qu'ils reconnaissaient un être supérieur à eux, ainsi que je l'ai déjà dit. Toute leur science temporelle et spirituelle se bornaïit à faire différence du jour élémentaire d'avec les ténèbres, que nous appelons nuit, et à comprendre que les ténèbres leur annonçaient le repos et que le jour devait servir à leur action ordinaire temporelle pour leurs opérations terrestres. 1It is now needful to instruct you what were the charges which the three last sons of this second posterity of Noah received on the part of their father. They were ordained to go and visit the three terrestrial regions distinguished as West, South, North, and inhabited for 141 years by the first posterity of Noah, named Shem, Ham, Japheth. As soon as they had received the instructions necessary for their mission and had assured themselves of the will of the Creator by their divine spiritual operations, they set out with their sisters, whom they had taken as wives, and of whom they had posterity. They had no need to carry any provisions with them, and they found upon the earth wherewith to furnish their nourishment and all their corporeal needs. The eldest of the three sons went, with his wife and his posterity, to dwell in the region of the south; the second the region of the west, with his wife and his posterity; the third went,
2likewise with his wife and his posterity, to dwell in the region of the north, or of the north wind, conformably to the first tongue. They went each into these different parts of the world to perpetuate among their brothers, as also among their posterity, the ceremonial of the divine worship, so that these peoples might not entirely lose from sight the worship which the Creator required of them, in relation to the infinite graces and mercies they had received from the Eternal. They operated such great spiritual prodigies among these peoples that they had no difficulty in bringing them to submit to the instructions, the counsels and the divine spiritual lessons which these three wise men spread each in his region, according to their mission and the order they had received. Nevertheless it was needful to begin by preaching to these nations a doctrine purely temporal, in order to put themselves within their reach, and then to raise them from the temporal worship to the spiritual worship. This is what they effectively did, as I shall make known to you.
3These first peoples had not regulated among themselves the hours, the days, the months, the years and the seasons; they lived much as the brutes do, save that they recognised a being superior to themselves, as I have already said. All their temporal and spiritual science was bounded to making a difference between the elementary day and the darkness which we call night, and to comprehending that the darkness announced repose to them and that the day was to serve for their ordinary temporal action for their terrestrial operations. The three wise men who had come to instruct them began by establishing among them a measure of time, which they regulated upon the spiritual division
