1What has this regenerating being not done? What has he not said to dissipate the demoniac insinuation wherewith the minors were defiled? What has he not suffered to overthrow the attacks which the demons made against the minors? Has he not shown these same minors that what they operated came not from themselves, since he made known to them who caused them to act against the divine will; since he made known to them the means the demons employed to make them renounce themselves and their soul? If a part of these minors adopted the counsels of the demons and the other rejected them, did not this difference of thought and of will announce to those men that there was in them a free and spiritual being, and that, were it not so, the demons would not have persecuted them so strongly? It is by ignorance of all these things that the minors proceeded since the epoch of Christ have repeated the abominations of the first posterities. They have denied their soul; and, in denying their soul, they have denied the Divinity, for one cannot admit a Creator without admitting purely spiritual creatures. The posterity of Cain had pushed error thus far, admitting neither God nor soul; the greater part of the posterity of Seth admitted a soul, but no

3Despite this false conduct of the men proceeded from the posterity of Cain, of Seth and of Israel, and of those who have come since Christ, we have seen in all times the mercy of the Creator manifest itself. Although his creature remains under the weight of divine justice, he does not withdraw his benevolence from it; on the contrary he procures for it all the means he believes necessary to it for its satisfaction, whether temporal or spiritual.
