1man Enoch, a name which signifies dedicated, or devoted, to the Creator. He undertook with the greatest success to reform the conduct of the minors who already recognised him for a man powerful over every created thing. He questioned them upon the different daily operations and invocations they practised against the will of the Creator, whence they unfittingly took the name of children of the living God. The representations he made them upon this subject, and even the threats of the terrible judgements that were to come upon them in a short time, engaged these minors to give themselves entirely to the conduct, the discipline and the instructions of the holy man Enoch. He reassured them, strengthened them in faith and in the practice of the holy operations, which they knew as yet only by the discourses he had held to them in the first assembly made on the day of the Sabbath. To this effect he made among them an election of ten subjects, to whom he declared the will of the Creator, and to whom he prescribed a ceremonial and a rule of life whereby they might invoke the Eternal in holiness. He admitted these ten subjects to the knowledge of his Listic Catholic works; (the precise interpretation of these two words, which belong to the divine spiritual sciences, will be given in its place). He then had them raise an edifice which had but a single apartment or enclosure, wherein were placed these ten subjects whom Enoch had chosen to assist him in his holy operations. He gave to each of them an initial letter of the holy names of God; which formed in all ten letters, that they might follow with regularity and precision every kind of operation agreeable to the Creator and advantageous for the
2reconciled minors. After this first operation, he sent them back each to his tent, or the quarter he had himself assigned them, even as Moses has since represented it by the encampment of the Levites about the ark. Enoch held this assembly of divine operations with his ten elect every ten weeks, and transmitted to them in each assembly a new initial letter of the holy name of God, so that after seven assemblies each of them had for himself two powerful words wherewith he commanded every created thing from the terrestrial surface to the celestial surface. The two words consisted of seven letters, whereof four formed the redoubtable, powerful and invisible name of the Eternal, which governed and subjected every created being in the celestial body, and the three other letters formed a holy name which subjected and governed every created being upon the terrestrial body. These ten chiefs, restored by the succour of Enoch to their first divine spiritual virtues and powers, performed by their holy operations such great prodigies that they drew to themselves several subjects of their family, and instructed the minors truly called by the holy spirit in the sciences they possessed by the power and ministry of Enoch, type of the reconciliation of the human race.
3The number of proselytes became in a short time very considerable, but these new proselytes did not equally hold themselves within their virtues and their powers. What perverted several of them was the atrocious conduct of one of the ten chiefs admitted by Enoch to the divine reconciliation, who stirred up dissension among the emulators and spread an air of contempt upon the instructions they had received from Enoch. This spirit of revolt increased so greatly among the newly called that they gave themselves entirely to the abandonment of the Creator and to the enjoyment of matter under the conduct of the prevaricating chief. There remained therefore only the number of nine upon the earth. These nine just fell back upon the forces and upon the knowledge they had received from the holy man Enoch, and begged him to assemble once more with them, to replace that one of their brethren whom the demon had ravished from them.
