1I shall now enter upon the explanation of the true types made by all the events I have related. Adam, by his temporal posterity, makes the figure of the Creator; and this posterity of Adam makes the figure of the spirits which the Creator had emanated from himself for his greater glory, and to render him a spiritual worship. You have seen that these spirits may be considered as elder to Adam, having been emanated before him. You know also that these spirits having prevaricated, the Eternal removed them from his presence, that he emanated and emancipated from his divine immensity a minor spiritual being to contain them in privation, and that this minor whom we name Adam and Reaux was consequently only the second born spiritually of these first spirits, and that he issued, as they did, from the divine father Creator of all things. I wish therefore to observe that Cain, elder son of Adam, is the type of these first spirits emanated by the Creator, and that his crime is the type of that which these first spirits committed against the Eternal. Abel, second born of Adam, makes by his innocence and his holiness the type of Adam emanated after these first spirits in his first state of divine justice and glory. And the destruction of the body of Abel, operated by Cain his elder brother, is the type of the operation which the first spirits made to destroy the
2form of glory wherewith the first man was clothed, and to render him by this means susceptible of being, like them, in divine privation. Such is the certain explanation of the first type made by Adam, Cain and Abel, through the grievous events that befell them. The second type made by these three minors is not less considerable, whether by the relation they have with every corporeal being, celestial, general and terrestrial, or by the events they announced as due to befall the posterity of the first man. To be convinced of it, one must observe that Adam, by the three spirituous principles that compose his form of apparent matter, and by the proportions that reign therein, is the exact figure of the general terrestrial temple, which we know to be an equilateral triangle, as will be seen physically in what follows. Adam had in his power a corporeal vegetation, even as it is of the nature of the earth to vegetate. Adam could vegetate only in two sorts of vegetations: the masculine and the feminine. The earth likewise can produce only these two species of vegetations, whether in the passive animals or in the plants and other vegetables. But I shall teach you that, besides the power the body of man has of reproducing itself corporeally, it has further that of vegetating passive animals which are truly innate in the substance of this material form. Here is whence we learn it.
3When the spiritual acting being has quitted its form, that form falls into putrefaction. After this putrefaction is made, there issue from this corporeal form corporeal beings which we call reptiles, which subsist until the three spirituous principles that co-operated in the corporeal form of man are reintegrated. It must not be believed that this putrefaction comes of itself, nor directly from the corporeal form; but it must be known that the seminal of all things subject to vegetation is innate in the envelope, whether terrestrial or aquatic. Thus the body of man, having proceeded from the general earth, and having innate in its form of matter the three principles that co-operated in him to form his envelope, whether terrestrial or aquatic, it is not doubtful that there still resides in this particular form a seminal of animals susceptible of vegetation. It is by this seminal that putrefaction comes about in bodies after what is commonly called death.
