1"Hear, Israel, what I have to say to thee upon the different proportions I have observed in the construction of the tabernacle of divine spiritual power, and upon the different relations it has with all that exists. The tabernacle, in its perfection, makes four sorts of spiritual allusions: the 1° to the supercelestial world, the 2° to the celestial world, the 3° to the body of man, and the 4° to the world or universal circle. Thou shalt recognise the first in observing that the interior is the true figure of the supercelestial. It is in this holy place that I go to operate a part of the action of the spiritual inhabitants of the supercelestial without the mixture of action with any other spirit; and so, when I must take direct communication of the divine will, the Creator has subjected me to enter into this holy place by the door of the East, and I enter therein every time I have something to ask in favour of Israel. But also my fear and my labour are infinitely more considerable for this kind of operations than for all the others I might make for or against the advantage of Israel, because, in this one, according as I have just said, I have to take direct communication with the Eternal and with the pure spirits of the supercelestial.
2The second allusion, or that of the celestial region, is figured to thee by the four doors that are attached to the tabernacle, and which represent the four supercelestial regions. Of these four doors, one looks to the east, another to the west, another to the south, another to the north wind or the north; they are the true figures of the four spiritual powers which the Creator has given to his minor, and by which he can make use of those of the four regionary chiefs, and all that is in their dependence. It is for this that,
3when I am in the tabernacle to be instructed in temporal spiritual celestial things, I leave open the door that looks to the celestial region of the chief to whom I have need to address myself. Such, Israel, is the difference of the requests and of the operations I make in the celestial region from those I have to make in the supercelestial region. The inhabitants of the supercelestial, operating and acting upon all that exists spiritually, are not held back by the bounds of the universe; and, having for themselves no bound of matter, one can neither subject them nor assign them to any elementary region. This is what makes it so that, in working upon them, I leave open none of the doors of the tabernacle, because these sorts of spirits have in their power the removing of every kind of bound of matter in order to come and communicate themselves to the minors destined to the manifestation of the divine glory and justice. But it is not so with the spiritual inhabitants of the celestial region: as they occupy regions and elementary forms, I am obliged, when I address myself to them, to open the bound wherein they are contained. Such is the true relation of the tabernacle with the celestial world and the supercelestial world, whose inhabitants come each to operate with distinction and without confusion in the presence of him who has power and action over them by order of the Creator.
