1four celestial horizons are distinctly marked. It is not in vain, Israel, that the Creator has established this same order in these different immensities; it is not only for the conservation of time nor of the different permanent bodies of the universe, nor yet for the conservation of the act and of the spiritual temporal agents, nor finally for the greatness and the glory of all the beings I have just named; it was solely for man that all these things had been thus disposed; and, as they were to serve as bounds to the perverse spirits, they are subjected to the minor so that he may exercise upon them his power and his command, according to his will and according to the laws of order.
2See then what were the privileges which God had granted to man. It is these three worlds — the divine, the supercelestial and the celestial — that make known to thee the three reigns of the Divinity. It is the last of these worlds that should have been the dwelling of the first minor; had this minor not prevaricated, he would always have occupied the centre of the four celestial regions, as being the most powerful being; he would have acted and operated in that celestial world as a pure divine spirit; every spiritual being would have obeyed his thought and his will. Yes, had this first minor not prevaricated, he would never have become an inhabitant of the material terrestrial world, he would not have disunited his quaternary divine power to render it simply inferior and ternary, as the simple sensible triangle proves to thee, whereto three planetary bodies are attached: the Moon, Venus and Jupiter. But this prevarication has made man descend from that surface
3and has cast him down into a world wholly opposed to that for which he had been emancipated. Thou seest indeed that the celestial world always preserves the form of its origin and its similitude with the supercelestial and the divine; but the inferior world has only a material form different from that of the three superior worlds. It is by the disunion thou perceivest in the double triangle of this sensible world that thou canst conceive the privation of the first minor and of those who reside in this place of darkness — a privation that subjects these spiritual minors to the pains of the body and of the spirit. This sensible circle is to the minors, since the prevarication of man, what the supercelestial immensity and the universal space are to the demon. Thou knowest nevertheless that the advantage of men over the demons is to be able at their pleasure and at their will to break their bound and to act as pure spirits, though subject to time. Such is the idea thou must conceive of the present power of man. As for the spirits of the supercelestial, it is fitting that I instruct thee in their emancipation, in their different faculties and in their power, so that thou mayest see clearly the true relation and the correspondence they have, both with the divine immensity and with the celestial world and with the minors inhabiting this terrestrial sphere.
