En effet, aucun être ne peut se revêtir de la substance d'une forme apparente sans qu'elle soit composée de ces trois principes. Tu pourrais être étonné que je te parlasse de forme corporelle pour les habitants du surcéleste; tu dois sentir cependant que tout être émancipé, pour opérer temporellement les volontés du Créateur, se produit une enveloppe corporelle qui sert de voile à son action spirituelle temporelle. Sans cette enveloppe, il ne pourrait rien opérer sur les autres êtres temporels sans les consumer par la faculté innée de l'esprit pur de dissoudre tout ce qu'il approche. Cette enveloppe corporelle glorieuse dont se revêtent les habitants spirituels du surcéleste et du terrestre, n'est autre chose que la production de leur propre feu. Ces êtres spirituels ont, à cet égard, la même propriété que les esprits de laxe central, qui ont en eux le pouvoir de faire émaner de leur feu les trois essences fondamentales de leurs propre corps, ou forme glorieuse. L'opération des uns et des autres, quant à cet objet, est absolument la même; néanmoins, il y a une très grande différence dans l’action de ces trois sortes d'esprits : les esprits de l'axe n'ont chacun en eux qu'une seule action ; ainsi, ils ne peuvent opérer qu’une seule sorte de forme, et qu'après l'opération immédiate d’un être supérieur qui les commande et en dispose à son gré, et selon la volonté du Créateur. Mais les êtres spirituels habitant les trois mondes, ayant à opérer des
3actions plus considérables et plus étendues, peuvent se produire à chaque instant de nouvelles formes et les varier à l'infini selon leur besoin, et selon l’objet qu'ils ont à remplir. Il est vrai que ces êtres spirituels ne peuvent agir, ainsi que les esprits de l'axe, sans avoir reçu l’ordre du Créateur; mais quand ils l'ont reçu, ils ont en eux tout ce qu'il faut pour l’exécuter par eux-mêmes, au lieu que les esprits de l'axe sont de simples sujets qui n’agissent qu'autant qu'ils sont conduits, parce qu'ils n’ont pas l'intelligence. C'est là ce qui doit te faire concevoir que les essences et les formes corporelles des êtres spirituels, habitants des trois mondes, sont plus pures et plus subtiles que celles qui proviennent des esprits de l’axe. Tu pourrais me demander encore si ces mêmes essences spirituelles n'existent pas également dans l'immensité divine où résident une infinité d'esprits ? Je te répondrai que les quatre classes d'esprits supérieurs, majeurs, inférieurs et mineurs terrestres, habitant dans l'immensité divine, n’ont jamais à opérer dans ce lieu que des actions et des opérations spirituelles divines, sans aucun mélange d'opération matérielle quelconque. C'est pour cela qu'une essence spiritueuse n’a jamais pu exister et n’existera jamais dans ce lieu divin, qui est la résidence des esprits purs, où s'opère toute émanation divine et d'où provient toute espèce d'émanation.

If thou multipliest the number 3 by the quaternary of which I have just spoken to thee, and which is found exactly in the terrestrial, celestial
2and supercelestial worlds, thou shalt have for product this same number 12, or 3, which shall confirm to thee that the corporeal form of all the beings existing in these three worlds proceeds from three principles: sulphur, salt and mercury, wherein I have already instructed thee. Indeed, no being can clothe itself with the substance of an apparent form without its being composed of these three principles. Thou mightest be astonished that I should speak to thee of corporeal form for the inhabitants of the supercelestial; thou must feel however that every emancipated being, to operate temporally the wills of the Creator, produces for itself a corporeal envelope which serves as a veil to its spiritual temporal action. Without this envelope, it could operate nothing upon the other temporal beings without consuming them by the innate faculty of pure spirit to dissolve all it approaches. This glorious corporeal envelope wherewith the spiritual inhabitants of the supercelestial and of the terrestrial clothe themselves is nothing else than the production of their own fire. These spiritual beings have, in this regard, the same property as the spirits of the central axis, who have in them the power of causing to emanate from their fire the three fundamental essences of their own bodies, or glorious form. The operation of the one and of the other, as to this object, is absolutely the same; nevertheless, there is a very great difference in the action of these three sorts of spirits: the spirits of the axis have each in them but a single action; thus they can operate but a single sort of form, and that only after the immediate operation of a superior being who commands them and disposes of them at his pleasure, and according to the will of the Creator. But the spiritual beings inhabiting the three worlds, having to operate
3actions more considerable and more extended, can produce for themselves at every instant new forms and vary them to infinity according to their need, and according to the object they have to fulfil. It is true that these spiritual beings cannot act, any more than the spirits of the axis, without having received the order of the Creator; but when they have received it, they have in themselves all that is needful to execute it by themselves, whereas the spirits of the axis are simple subjects who act only in so far as they are conducted, because they have not intelligence. It is this that must make thee conceive that the essences and the corporeal forms of the spiritual beings, inhabitants of the three worlds, are purer and more subtle than those which proceed from the spirits of the axis. Thou mightest ask me further whether these same spiritual essences do not exist equally in the divine immensity where an infinity of spirits reside. I shall answer thee that the four classes of spirits — superior, major, inferior and minor terrestrial — inhabiting the divine immensity, have never to operate in that place anything but divine spiritual actions and operations, without any mixture of material operation whatsoever. It is for this that a spirituous essence has never been able to exist and shall never exist in that divine place, which is the residence of pure spirits, where every divine emanation is operated and whence every species of emanation proceeds.
