1When a temporal created being changes its nature of action, it necessarily changes its laws of operation: when the Creator reconciled the general universal and particular creation, there was change in the laws that directed that creation before it was cursed and reconciled. It was the same with the first man; having changed his state of glory, it was absolutely necessary that the Creator should also change the first laws of operation he had given him; those first laws being no longer suitable to the action and to the direction of a corporeal form so little extended as that wherewith Adam was constrained to clothe himself by divine authority. The laws that govern the corporeal forms of
2apparent passive matter are not, as you must feel, those that govern any minor spirit, possessor and governor of a form of glorious body, which draws not its origin from the matter we see physically condensed. The glorious form contains not the minor spirit, nor any other spirit in divine privation, since it is, like the minor and like every other spirit, deputed by the Eternal to manifest among men, and wherever it pleases the Creator, the glory of that divine being. I shall say more: Adam and his posterity, being detained within this form of terrestrial matter, were not to render to the Creator the same worship as that for which the first man had been emanated. If the first minor has changed form, it is of absolute necessity that he has changed operation. This new operation is infinitely bounded by the force of the laws which the Creator exercised against Adam and which he has rendered reversible upon all his posterity until the end of time.
3This bounded operation ought not to surprise you, in view of the iniquitous employment Adam made of his first Word, which the Eternal had placed in him, that he might produce a posterity of God. This Word, of which you are perhaps ignorant and which you consider as a thing incomprehensible, was nothing but the intention and the will that were to operate by the powerful speech of this first man. But to know more clearly the Word of posterity of God which Adam had innate in him, one must go back to the knowledge of the different Words which the Creator employed for his universal creation, wherein the general and the particular consist, according to his intention, his will and his speech, from which every action, every form and every minor spiritual being have proceeded.
