Is it possible to prolong youth?
Does a Spiritual Alchemy exist capable of restoring our youth? — Causes of old age and of death.
By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴ — We shall now begin to study whether it is possible to protect our body against various internal and external dissolving factors which, with the years, prematurely determine that state of weakening and slackness of the various tissues we call old age.
The various Hindu esoteric schools all mention five systems for attaining that end.
They are: 1st physical; 2nd dietetic; 3rd respiratory; 4th mental; 5th spiritual.
To keep our organism in a perfect state of health — and consequently with a youthful aspect, good flexibility and elasticity of the tissues and normal tone of the internal organs — it is necessary to practise certain physical exercises requiring knowledge of an adequate technique; to know further which foods are suitable to permit the organism a normal metabolism leaving no impurities accumulated in the intercellular spaces and in the blood and other organic liquids; to become familiar with the secrets of breathing, with certain exercises suited to the mental life; and, finally, to lead a fitting spiritual conduct.
Some asanas (postures) are already known to the readers of our Progressive Course of Asana Yoga and, as they know, these asanas act at once upon body, soul and mind.
The Yogis affirm that certain exercises, kept secret for thousands of years, can make the pranic force individualised as sexual force flow towards the nervous centres and brain, thus obtaining a re-toning and rejuvenation of the organism.
The Yogis who teach control over certain vital centres of the body demonstrate that such procedures can be accomplished by natural means, in man as in woman, without need of grafts, administration of hormonal preparations, etc.
They stimulate those centres DIRECTLY, employing means that do not violate the natural laws — this technique being, in its final phase, truly a spiritual alchemy.
But for that a profound knowledge is needed of the human body and of the mysterious functional process of every organ of the whole organism.
We shall now begin the study of the physical part, which may be considered a true preparatory stage for the other four, and whose end is the complete detoxification of the body.

— Old age may be considered a true progressive illness.
As we advance through the years we draw ever nearer to it, and its characteristic manifestations grow ever more evident.
