1The third kind of a Cycle is the Arc of Human Progress, Mental and Physical, and which alternately carries a race of people or an empire to the summit of power and civilization and down again, in spite of itself, to the greatest depths of ignorance. The duration of this Cycle varies considerably, according to the kind of race it effects. The greatest period is the duration, or reign, of the Seven root races of each round. The next, the duration of a single root race. Lastly, the duration of each of the numerous off-shoot races belonging to the seven branches and their minor sub-races. But, in any case, the Arc moves in the same harmonious order, obeying the Divine impulse of the Seven Eternal Principles of Nature, evolving its energies in great, mighty waves, when ruling the earliest root races, and com¬ prising hundreds of thousands of years in a single period, in smaller waves that can be measured by tens of thousands of years when controlling the great branch races, and in gentler ripples of tiny wavelets of cosmic energy when directing the minor sub-races, measuring at the most but a few thousand years of Earth’s time. The year 1881 may appear incorrect to any one conversant with modem astronomy, which maintains that our Sun will not enter the Sign Aquarius until the year 1897 A.D. This is a difference of sixteen years, but modem astronomers are wrong. The Sun entered Aquarius in February of 1881. This is not the only mistake they have to discover.
2The present Great Western Race is one of the seven branches of the Fifth root race, belonging to the fourth round of evolution, and the sub-races mentioned in La Clef, when speaking of the future glory and fall, do not by any means comprise or include the whole of the Great Western Race. It will be sufficient to say that France, England (Great Britain) and the United States may be taken as typical examples of the sub-races therein referred to. This period is one of war, Martial Heroes and brilliant achievements on the field of battle. A glance at the history of Greece and Rome will suffice to show how true this is.
