THE WARTIME APPLICATIONS

This technical instruction provides essential tools for:

Timing Decisions: Understanding when cosmic influences support rather than oppose important actions during periods when external guidance may be unavailable or unreliable

Individual Assessment: Recognizing how different people respond to the same cosmic influences according to their constitutional patterns and spiritual development levels

Group Coordination: Establishing precise timing for collective spiritual work when groups may be separated by great distances or dangerous circumstances

Strategic Planning: Understanding longer-term cosmic cycles that affect the outcome of material conflicts and spiritual development opportunities

Personal Development: Maintaining spiritual practice according to cosmic rhythms even when external circumstances disrupt normal routines

International Understanding: Using universal cosmic principles to transcend national and cultural divisions that become exacerbated during wartime conflicts

THE EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

The systematic progression from basic concepts to detailed technical application demonstrates how authentic spiritual education must provide both theoretical understanding and practical skills. During crisis periods, spiritual workers need both the philosophical foundation to maintain hope and confidence and the technical skills to provide effective guidance for specific circumstances.

The integration of mathematical precision with spiritual purpose shows how traditional knowledge can be transmitted through exact methods rather than vague generalities. This approach ensures that spiritual guidance maintains accuracy and reliability even under extreme circumstances when verification through normal channels may be impossible.

This technical instruction thus provides essential foundation for conscious participation in cosmic evolution through precise understanding rather than approximate intuition—exactly the knowledge needed for spiritual workers who must maintain effectiveness during periods when external circumstances provide little support for authentic spiritual development and service.

Progressive Course in Asana Yoga

Padmasana Variants and the Mysterious Sarvangasana

By Asuri Kapila, S.I.

VARIANTS OF PADMASANA – The PADMASANA posture can be done with variants. Based on them there exist more than ten different postures, which will be made known in this course.

Based on them there exist more than ten different postures, which will be made known in this course.

1° Artha Padmasana. – 2° Virasana. – 3° Parvatasana (The mountain posture). – 4° Samasana (Symmetric posture). – 5° Karmukhasana. – 6° Uttida Padmasana. – 7° Baddha Padmasana. – 8° Oordhva Padmasana. – 9° Lolasana. – 10° Kukhutasana.

We will explain the easiest to practice.

THE PROGRESSIVE PADMASANA VARIANTS

ARTHA PADMASANA is made for those who cannot do PADMASANA at once due to difficulties they experience in the placement of feet.

If one cannot, at the beginning, place both feet on the thighs, one foot will be placed on one thigh for a certain time, and the other foot on the other thigh later, to be able thus to accustom oneself to the placement of both feet separately, which will be easy to carry out after some practice. Exercising in this half posture called ARTHA PADMASANA for some days, one will gradually achieve complete PADMASANA.

VIRASANA, which means "hero's posture," is done in the following manner:

Sit comfortably on the floor, place the right foot on the left thigh and the left foot under the right thigh.

PARVATASANA, which means "mountain posture," is done in the following manner:

Do PADMASANA, then rise up on the knees and raise the hands as Figure No. 2 indicates.

When this ASANA is done, during the first days it is necessary to put something behind the back to not lose equilibrium; so the best thing is to take this posture leaning against the wall.

Being also necessary, in the first days, to put something under the knees to not hurt them, the best thing is to do this posture on a mattress until becoming accustomed, and then it will be done on the floor with only a carpet.

SAMASANA is done in the following manner:

Place the left heel on the upper extremity of the right thigh and the right heel on the upper extremity of the left thigh. During this Asana it is necessary that the body be quite straight and without moving it.

KARMUKHASANA is done in the following manner:

Sit in PADMASANA, take the big toe of the right foot with the right hand and the big toe of the left foot with the left hand, making thus, with this position of hands and elbows, a symmetrical posture.

UTTIDA-PADMASANA is done in the following manner:

Sit in PADMASANA and place the palms on the floor at the sides, as can be seen in Figure No. 3. Supporting oneself on the palms, lift the body, doing everything possible so that there are no tremors during this levitation movement. Retain the breath all the time that it lasts. Only when one returns to recover the initial position, that is, seated again, is the air that was inspired and retained at the moment of levitation expired.

Retain the breath all the time that it lasts. Only when one returns to recover the initial position, that is, seated again, is the air that was inspired and retained at the moment of levitation expired.

The other variants of PADMASANA will not be given here for not considering them of practical utility for students. We will now study the second and most important ASANA, called SARVANGASANA (the posture of all members).

THE MYSTERIOUS SARVANGASANA

This Asana, if practiced constantly, is extraordinary in its results due to its enormous benefits, both physical and mental and spiritual. It was given the name SARVANGASANA, because in it "all the members" are put in movement and, as a consequence, the internal organs receive different stimuli.

We are going to explain its technique:

Lie down on one's back on the mattress (at the beginning; and then on a carpet) and slowly raise the legs in the air. Then elevate the trunk until remaining in an almost vertical position, as Figure No. 4 indicates.

Make the shoulders rest by supporting the lumbar region on the hands, while the elbows rest on the floor; then press the chin against the chest, thus forming a closure called in yogic terms JALANDHARA-BANDHA.

During this exercise perfect equilibrium must be maintained, not allowing the body to move from one side to another and always keeping the legs well extended. Upon finishing this ASANA, return to place the legs very elegantly on the floor again, avoiding tremors. All the weight of the body, then, rests on the upper part of the back and the elbows as the only supports (Fig. No. 4). During this posture it is necessary to concentrate thought on the thyroid gland, which is situated in the anterior region of the neck and exactly in front of the larynx. Inspire and retain the breath slowly and then expire the air, repeat these respiratory movements three times.

SARVANGASANA can be practiced twice daily, morning and evening.

THE EXTRAORDINARY BENEFITS OF SARVANGASANA

The thyroid gland performs an important hormonic function in the organism. We all know that the thyroid contributes powerfully, through its hormonic secretion, to the equilibrium of different organic functions (circulatory, respiratory, metabolic, genital, etc.), together with endocrine glands, such as, for example, the hypophysis, the pineal, the suprarenal, the sexual glands, etc. If the thyroid becomes ill, all the other endocrine glands are affected by this dysfunction, and in the organism are established those syndromes known in Medicine as consequences of endocrine disorders. SARVANGASANA is performed especially to tonify the thyroid and, consequently, favor the harmonic functions of the organism.

SARVANGASANA is performed especially to tonify the thyroid and, consequently, favor the harmonic functions of the organism.

SARVANGASANA determines hyperemia in the spinal arterial plexuses, in the periphery of the origin of the spinal nerves. This hyperemia determines better nutrition of the nervous centers as a consequence of the prana contributed by the blood; and we know that, where there is prana, there is Life and Health, which is the result of a harmonic and perfect physical, mental and spiritual equilibrium. This ASANA permits, then, greater elasticity of the spinal column and, as a consequence of the improved blood circulation, prevents the arteries from hardening prematurely, which is, as we know, a sign of approaching old age.

Such is the importance that the Venerable "Gurus" of India concede to this Asana that they also call it the "Mysterious" Asana.

Guru Sivananda recommends it very especially to his disciples together with another called SIRSHASANA, which we will study later. This Venerable Guru says that it suffices to put into practice three fundamental Asanas to maintain the body and mind in perfect health, and assures that it is not necessary to take walks or do other kinds of violent exercises. This Guru is a great Asana-Yogin who shows, as a result of his long practice, the benefits of Asana Yoga in his hieratic face and majestic bearing, in all his features of super-man. In India he enjoys great veneration, not only on the part of his disciples, but also on the part of the people in general.

This Asana retards old age and aids chastity, called in Sanskrit BRAHMA-CHARYA. It has the peculiarity of rejuvenating those who have prematurely lost youth and fortifies and renews sexual potency. It cures many exhausting diseases and especially "nocturnal seminal emissions." It acts as a tonic and as a powerful purifier and detoxifier of the blood; it cures diseases of the ovaries, of the bladder and other kinds of sexual diseases. It is recommended to women in case of sterility and to young girls to maintain bodily elasticity. SARVANGASANA also awakens Kundalini and increases the "digestive fire" called JATHARAGNI. It cures dyspepsia, constipation and other chronic gastrointestinal diseases. In short, in a word, it tonifies and vivifies the organism.

THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF YOGA PRACTICE DURING WARTIME

This systematic yoga instruction appears in August 1942 when physical and mental health practices become essential for maintaining stability during unprecedented global stress. The detailed technical guidance provides accessible tools for developing inner resources when external circumstances offer little security or support.

The Progressive Learning Approach: The systematic presentation of Padmasana variants from simple (Artha Padmasana) to advanced (Uttida-Padmasana) demonstrates how spiritual practice must be adapted to individual capacity rather than imposed uniformly. During wartime, when people face varying levels of stress and physical capability, graduated instruction ensures that everyone can benefit regardless of their starting point.

The Mountain Symbolism: Parvatasana's requirement to "rise up on the knees and raise the hands" while maintaining stability represents the spiritual attitude needed during crisis periods—reaching toward higher consciousness while remaining grounded in practical reality. The initial need for wall support demonstrates that spiritual aspiration requires practical preparation and supportive environment.

The Symmetrical Balance: Samasana's emphasis on perfect symmetry with "the body quite straight and without moving it" provides training in the inner equilibrium essential for maintaining psychological stability when external circumstances become chaotic and unpredictable.

The Levitation Achievement: Uttida-Padmasana's instruction to "lift the body...doing everything possible so that there are no tremors" while "retaining the breath all the time" represents the mastery over physical and psychological gravity that enables transcending adverse circumstances through spiritual rather than merely material means.

The Mysterious Sarvangasana: The designation as the "Mysterious" Asana by Indian Gurus indicates profound effects beyond ordinary understanding. During wartime, when conventional medical resources may be limited or unavailable, practices that work through subtle rather than merely mechanical means become especially valuable.

The Thyroid-Endocrine Integration: The detailed explanation of how Sarvangasana affects the thyroid gland, which "contributes powerfully...to the equilibrium of different organic functions," provides understanding of how single practices can harmonize entire biological systems. This systemic approach becomes crucial when stress affects multiple bodily functions simultaneously.

The Prana-Health Connection: The teaching that hyperemia brings "prana contributed by the blood" and "where there is prana, there is Life and Health" bridges traditional energy concepts with modern physiological understanding. This integration demonstrates how ancient practices operate through mechanisms that science can verify even when it cannot fully explain.

The Aging Prevention: The promise that Sarvangasana "prevents the arteries from hardening prematurely" and "retards old age" addresses the accelerated aging that results from chronic stress during prolonged conflict periods. The practice offers biological renewal through non-material means when external rejuvenation resources are unavailable.

The Sexual Health Applications: The detailed attention to sexual function—"aids chastity," "rejuvenates those who have prematurely lost youth," "fortifies and renews sexual potency," "cures nocturnal seminal emissions"—addresses the sexual disruptions that accompany extreme stress while providing constructive rather than merely suppressive approaches to sexual energy management.

The Kundalini Awakening: The mention that Sarvangasana "awakens Kundalini" indicates effects on subtle energy systems that transcend ordinary physiological benefits. During periods of external restriction, awakening inner spiritual energies becomes essential for maintaining evolutionary development rather than merely survival.

The Digestive Enhancement: The improvement of "digestive fire" (Jatharagni) and cure of "dyspepsia, constipation and other chronic gastrointestinal diseases" addresses the digestive problems that commonly result from stress while providing drug-free solutions when medical resources may be limited.

The Holistic Integration: The comprehensive benefits spanning "physical and mental and spiritual" demonstrate how authentic yoga practice affects the whole human being rather than treating isolated symptoms. This holistic approach becomes essential during crisis periods when multiple systems require simultaneous support.

This holistic approach becomes essential during crisis periods when multiple systems require simultaneous support.

The Guru Sivananda Authority: The reference to this "great Asana-Yogin" whose "hieratic face and majestic bearing" show "the benefits of Asana Yoga" provides inspiring example of what sustained practice can achieve. During dark periods, living examples of achieved mastery provide hope and motivation for continued effort.

The Practical Accessibility: The simple instruction requiring only floor space and basic body awareness makes these practices available to anyone regardless of external circumstances. During wartime displacement and resource scarcity, practices that require no special equipment or location become especially valuable.

THE WARTIME RELEVANCE

This yoga instruction provides essential tools for:

Stress Management: Maintaining psychological equilibrium despite external chaos and uncertainty through practices that work directly on the nervous system

Health Maintenance: Preserving physical health when medical resources may be scarce or unavailable through practices that enhance natural healing capacity

Energy Conservation: Developing internal energy resources that don't depend on external fuel or food supplies through practices that optimize metabolic efficiency

Hormonal Balance: Maintaining endocrine system function when external stressors constantly trigger fight-or-flight responses through practices that restore natural rhythms

Spiritual Development: Continuing evolutionary growth even under adverse circumstances through practices that awaken subtle capacities independent of external conditions

Community Support: Providing teaching that can be shared with others to build collective resilience through practices that anyone can learn and benefit from

This systematic yoga instruction demonstrates how traditional practices provide practical solutions for contemporary challenges while maintaining their essential spiritual purpose—exactly the integration needed for conscious survival and continued evolution during humanity's most challenging periods.

Meditations on the Pantacle of Martinism

Mathematical Mysticism and Sacred Geometry in Crisis Times

By Kabir A.M.

[Editorial Note: In authorizing the publication of this study by a Martinist on the Pantacle of the Order, the Grand Council takes pleasure in noting to readers in general, that the author of the article, our brother Kabir, is a mathematician who has sought to APPLY his professional knowledge to the MEDITATION OF OCCULT TEACHING. The interest of his article, the depth of certain concepts, which give his truly cabalistic language a real philosophical scope, should be for all readers a stimulus to practice that Art and Science which consists in meditating on Symbols and Teachings. —The Grand Council of the Martinist Order]

In these lines we propose to expound some ideas suggested by the Pantacle of Martinism—due to Louis-Claude de Saint Martin—taking as base an explanation by Papus that we translate from his "Traité Méthodique de Science Occulte"—Volume II—page 96.

THE ETERNAL CIRCLE

"God, the first principle of the universe, is represented by a circle (symbol of eternity)."

The circle, symbol of eternity, is the simplest curve that reunites the properties of equal curvature at all its points, of geometric symmetry and in general, of symmetry in all aspects that we consider it, symbol of justice and equilibrium, we feel that it should express the nature of Eternity.

According to the new concepts of physical science, it is a figure finite and infinite at the same time. It has no beginning nor end and its extremes are confused.

Says the Bhagavad Gita in Stanza IV, No. 6: "Although I have no beginning nor end and am Lord in all creatures, enthroned in my material nature, I am born by virtue of my magic power."

The symmetry, expression of God, we observe in many facts of Nature, and penetrating ourselves with this concept, we will surely see that in its most subtle form it is in all facts of Nature.

If in the forms that impress our senses we find a repeated property, nothing more natural than to think of an underlying Unity. The process of finding symmetry in all things, subtilizing the concept itself, carries implicit a simple and grandiose fact; and it is that in all things there exist common properties. In other terms, when we find a property in any phenomenon or entity of the Universe, surely the same property will exist in all phenomena or entities if we sufficiently spiritualize the sense of the property.

THE LAW OF SYMMETRY

Regarding the law of symmetry, we will add that it not only implies equilibrium, but is an expression of beauty and, moreover, of utility.

THE LAW OF SYMMETRY

Regarding the law of symmetry, we will add that it not only implies equilibrium, but is an expression of beauty and, moreover, of utility.

Let us see an example. We say that a glass should be symmetric to be useful as such; in effect, a common glass is symmetric, as we know in the ordinary sense of the word. Now then, someone will say that utility subsists even though the glass loses its symmetry, adding that it could even be made circular on one side and square on the other. Here in reality, symmetry has been lost because we have considered it in the restrictive sense, since, if we say, "a glass is symmetric when it has matter on one side and another of a certain plane," we have amplified the concept and maintained, therefore, the principle that we sustained.

Even when we were changing the conditions of our object, we could, in final analysis, resort to the most general concept of symmetry saying that the existence of anything, in any plane, carries implicit the law of equivalence or compensation, which says that the sum of values in one sense is equal to the sum of values in the opposite sense.

Thus we arrive at a simple and, therefore, beautiful conclusion: a thing is useful if it exists; but its existence depends on the law of symmetry. That is to say, that symmetry is a necessary condition of utility.

Another example. Let us suppose a deformed man. He lacks symmetry in the ordinary sense of the word; but contemplating this being from a more profound point of view, we could think, for example, that this deformity obeys some "Cause." And then the miracle of this thought of love is produced, showing us a new sense of symmetry; the existence of a cause, on one side; the effect or deformity of the man, on the other; and the man himself, product or center of symmetry, as synthesis.

THE HEXAGON OF CREATION

"The action of eternity, passing from potency to act, is symbolized by the mystical action from the center to the circumference, by the radius projected six times around the circle. Hence the hexagon of the six periods of creation. The central point forms the seventh period (rest)."

The action of Eternity, passing from the state of Potency to that of Act, we can express geometrically as an expansion from the center of the circle to the circumference. This act of sacrifice of God carries implicit, in its realization, one of the transcendental numbers of mathematical science, the number called "pi," which is the relation of the length of the circumference to the diameter.

This number is denominated, in mathematics, irrational and transcendent. The irrationality consists in that it is not possible to obtain it with a finite number of divisions of unity; and the transcendence in not being able to return to unity, starting from said number, through the two operations of addition and subtraction.

The irrationality consists in that it is not possible to obtain it with a finite number of divisions of unity; and the transcendence in not being able to return to unity, starting from said number, through the two operations of addition and subtraction.

Mystically the irrationality would be the approach to the Goal through the evolutive process, and this realized, would be equivalent to dissolving in the All, since said number is born in Creation.

As for transcendence, being exclusively of the mental plane the operations of addition and subtraction employed, it is not possible to obtain a result that corresponds to the divine plane.

We will see, in another article, the mystical relation between this number and another called "e," which plays a role of equal importance in Science.

Now then; each side of the hexagon of Creation has the length of the radius, which suggests to us that the duration of a period of Creation is equivalent to the duration of the attitude of the Creator; that is, we see in the sense of time, that the nature of the Creators is equal to that of the Creator. Marvelous Ternary of the Creator, the Created and Life!

After the involution from the center of the circle to the circumference, we have the opposite process of evolution, from this to the center. Here appears the eternal law of symmetry in an oscillation from the center outward and reciprocally, whose existence we can sense by analogy.

THE CREATIVE EMANATIONS

"It is in these creative emanations (aeons) where nature is going to evolve with its two currents of evolution and involution (ascending triangle and descending triangle). We observe that Nature does not reach God. It arrives only at the creative forces emanated from him."

Says the Bhagavad Gita, in Stanza VIII, Nos. 3 and 4: "Brahman is the imperishable and supreme; its particular nature is denominated Supreme Spirit; and the emanation that gives origin to all beings has the name Action." "Supreme Being is my perishable nature; Supreme Divinity is the masculine Creative Principle, and I myself, incarnated in this body, am the Supreme sacrifice, oh you, the best of mortals!"

These passages explain to us why Nature does not reach God, but does reach the creative forces emanated from Him; between manifested Nature and the originating cause, the days and nights of Brahma are produced.

Let us remember again the sublime poem cited, in its Stanza VIII, Nos. 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, where it expresses something with simple clarity:

"Those who know that the Day of Brahma has a duration of a thousand ages and that the Night endures another thousand; those are the ones who know Day and Night."

"At the advent of Day, the manifested universe surges from the unmanifested; and upon the arrival of Night, all vanishes in that same thing that is called unmanifested."

"All that multitude of beings suddenly come to existence, disappears upon the arrival of Night, son of Pritha, and surges anew, without their own will, when Day comes."

"However, above this unmanifested, there is in truth another Unmanifested Being, who is eternal and does not fall into destruction when all that exists is destroyed."

"That which is designated by the name of Unmanifested and Imperishable, is denominated Supreme Goal; those who come to reach it never return. This is my most excellent mansion."

THE TRIANGULAR SYMBOLISM

The ascending triangle, with vertex upward, expresses the spirituality of beings, as well as gives an idea that, upon elevating ourselves, we are in a more subtle vibratory state. From a point of view of knowledge it will tell us that, as we ascend, we comprehend facts with a lesser number of principles.

If we consider that the descending triangle expresses the same values, but inverted, the same reflections will result, but changed in sense.

The equilateral triangle, the simplest regular polygonal expression is at the same time, the only non-deformable one. What perfect analogy exists between this fact and that every truth, the simpler, the firmer! We could say that a truth expressed geometrically as a regular polygon, reaches its maximum perfection and, consequently, its maximum beauty, when it transforms into a triangle.

The whiteness of the ascending triangle symbolizes spirituality, the march toward light; the darkness of the descending one symbolizes materialism, the path of shadow.

The linking of the two triangles, which determines a new hexagon similar to that of Creation, suggests to us the idea that the involutive and evolutive processes are inseparable in all manifestations of the Universe. They are in dynamic equilibrium and in such a way, that when the process inclines toward the evolutive side there is progress, and regression when the contrary occurs; in the first case one goes discovering the Real, the Universal; in the other the sinking in Maya, the apparent diversity, is produced.

THE HUMAN CROSS

"Moreover, from the center of the universe to God himself, the potency of man takes birth, linking the effects of divinity to the fatalism of Nature in its triple Nature, synthesized, by the unity of Free Will, in a quaternary (the Cross). This Cross, image of man, unites the center of the universe (human soul) to God himself."

The Cross is the symbol of the opposition of good forces over evil ones, of spirit against matter, of active over passive. Its two arms, infinite because they reach the circumference of the Absolute, express, the vertical, spirituality, the horizontal, materialism. The geometric disposition of these two lines forming a right angle, the maximum possible between them, signals at the same time the maximum divergence of their meanings, as was to be expected.

The geometric disposition of these two lines forming a right angle, the maximum possible between them, signals at the same time the maximum divergence of their meanings, as was to be expected.

We will say now, considering the Cross in general, that if we suppose it as a reference system we can take as imaginary the vertical axis, with unity i = √-1, mathematical symbol of the spiritual unity; and the horizontal axis as real with unity 1, mathematical symbol of the real unity.

In this system to multiply by "i," that is, to spiritualize, is equivalent to turning the unity toward the left in correspondence with the heart; this movement engenders the sacred Swastika Cross, the Sign of Fohat.

On the other hand, if we attribute to the vertical axis the unity "j," as mathematical symbol opposed to "i," that is, to spirituality, to multiply by "j" is equivalent to producing a turn toward the right, in correspondence with force, engendering the black swastika cross.

Finally, to complete the ternary, when the third unity "k" is attributed to said vertical axis, we no longer obtain a turn, but a vertical descent, which determines for us the center of symmetry of the two previous turns, that is, indecision between the white force and the black force.

The first unity corresponds to the circular law of harmony; the second to the hyperbolic law of repulsion, and the third to the parabolic law in which union is lacking, because it does not close, and repulsion is also lacking, since it corresponds to the case in which the other branch of the hyperbola has disappeared or is about to be born.

THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF MATHEMATICAL MYSTICISM DURING WARTIME

This extraordinary integration of mathematical precision with mystical understanding appears in August 1942 when humanity desperately needs demonstrations that universal principles transcend political divisions and material destruction. The systematic analysis provides intellectual confidence in spiritual reality when external circumstances suggest that only material force matters.

The Mathematical Mysticism Validation: Kabir's professional mathematical background applied to occult teaching demonstrates that authentic spirituality enhances rather than contradicts intellectual rigor. During wartime, when anti-intellectual totalitarian ideologies dominate vast territories, proving that spiritual development increases rather than decreases analytical capacity becomes essential for maintaining civilized values.

The Circle as Eternal Symbol: The demonstration that the circle represents "a figure finite and infinite at the same time" with "no beginning nor end" provides geometrical proof of eternity's reality. During periods when death appears to dominate life, mathematical evidence of infinite principles offers hope that transcends immediate circumstances.

During periods when death appears to dominate life, mathematical evidence of infinite principles offers hope that transcends immediate circumstances.

The Symmetry-Unity Principle: The systematic analysis showing that "in all things there exist common properties" and "the same property will exist in all phenomena or entities if we sufficiently spiritualize the sense of the property" provides intellectual foundation for recognizing underlying unity despite surface conflicts. This understanding becomes crucial for maintaining hope for eventual peace despite apparent irreconcilable differences between warring ideologies.

The Utility-Existence Connection: The proof that "a thing is useful if it exists; but its existence depends on the law of symmetry" demonstrates that universal principles determine practical reality rather than mere human preferences. During wartime, when competing national interests appear to determine events, recognition that cosmic laws ultimately govern outcomes provides confidence in eventual justice.

The Deformity-Love Integration: The example showing how apparent deformity can be understood as expressing perfect symmetry when viewed from the perspective of cause-effect relationships demonstrates the "miracle of...thought of love" that transforms perception of seeming imperfection. This approach becomes essential for healing the psychological wounds that result from witnessing massive destruction and suffering.

The Pi Number Mysticism: The identification of π as representing "the act of sacrifice of God" through its mathematical properties of irrationality and transcendence provides precise understanding of how divine manifestation operates through apparently limiting material circumstances. The teaching that "irrationality would be the approach to the Goal through the evolutive process" while "transcendence" cannot be achieved through purely mental operations demonstrates why spiritual development requires experiential rather than merely intellectual approaches.

The Creator-Created Duration Equality: The insight that "each side of the hexagon of Creation has the length of the radius" suggesting "the duration of a period of Creation is equivalent to the duration of the attitude of the Creator" provides understanding that evolutionary processes follow divine rather than merely material timing. This knowledge becomes essential during periods when material circumstances suggest that destructive forces operate faster than constructive ones.

The Bhagavad Gita Integration: The systematic quotation of Sanskrit teachings to explain geometric principles demonstrates how Eastern and Western approaches to universal knowledge complement rather than contradict each other. During wartime, when cultural divisions become militarized, proving the underlying unity of authentic spiritual traditions becomes essential for post-war international cooperation.

During wartime, when cultural divisions become militarized, proving the underlying unity of authentic spiritual traditions becomes essential for post-war international cooperation.

The Day-Night Cosmic Cycles: The explanation of Brahma's days and nights providing the framework for manifestation and withdrawal demonstrates that apparent defeats and victories represent phases in larger evolutionary cycles rather than permanent conditions. This cosmic perspective becomes essential for maintaining long-term vision during periods of short-term catastrophe.

The Triangle Indeformability: The mathematical proof that "the equilateral triangle...is at the same time, the only non-deformable" figure provides understanding that "every truth, the simpler, the firmer!" This principle demonstrates why authentic spiritual teachings maintain their effectiveness regardless of external circumstances while complex ideological systems collapse under pressure.

The Ascending-Descending Integration: The recognition that "the involutive and evolutive processes are inseparable in all manifestations of the Universe" and exist "in dynamic equilibrium" prevents the psychological error of expecting purely progressive development without acknowledging the role of apparent regression in evolutionary advancement. This understanding becomes crucial for maintaining hope during periods when material civilization appears to be moving backward rather than forward.

The Cross as Quaternary Symbol: The mathematical analysis of the Cross using complex number theory (i, j, k units) provides precise understanding of how spiritual-material, positive-negative, and balanced forces interact to produce different types of manifestation. The identification of the sacred swastika (left turn toward heart) versus the black swastika (right turn toward force) provides mathematical explanation for why the same symbol can represent opposite spiritual orientations.

The Reference System Application: The use of coordinate geometry to understand spiritual principles demonstrates how traditional knowledge can be expressed through modern mathematical language without losing essential meaning. This integration becomes essential for communicating spiritual wisdom to scientifically educated populations who might otherwise reject traditional formulations as outdated superstition.

Horary Astrology: Planetary Hours for Spiritual Timing

Practical System for Sacred Timing During Crisis Periods

By Jehel S.I.

For making concentrations, exercises and even acts of profane life, the use of horary astrology is very useful and, in certain cases, indispensable.

For this reason I will give, in this and successive articles, the manner of utilizing this technique.

BASE OF HORARY ASTROLOGY

For this reason I will give, in this and successive articles, the manner of utilizing this technique.

BASE OF HORARY ASTROLOGY

When the Sun is born, the first of the ASTROLOGICAL HOURS OF THE DAY begins, which are twelve, and whose variation in duration depends on the ARC OF THE DAY, that is, the time that passes between the rising and setting of the Sun.

Example:

Let us suppose that the Sun rises, in Montevideo, at a certain time of year, more or less at 7:15 and sets at 17:45. We would then have a day arc of a total duration of 10 hours 30 minutes. Ten hours thirty minutes equals 630 minutes. Dividing these 630 minutes by 12 ASTROLOGICAL HOURS, it results that each HOUR OF THE DAY lasts currently, about 52 minutes and a half. The hours of the night will last SO MANY MORE MINUTES than 60 as are lacking from those of the day, that is, in this case, about 67 minutes and a half.

When the Sun rises, not only does the FIRST ASTROLOGICAL HOUR OF THE DAY begin, but also that first hour is governed by the same planet as the day of the week considered.

PLANETARY DAY RULERS

Example:

  • SATURDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by SATURN
  • SUNDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by SUN
  • MONDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by MOON
  • TUESDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by MARS
  • WEDNESDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by MERCURY
  • THURSDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by JUPITER
  • FRIDAY and its first hour of day are ruled by VENUS

Having obtained in such form the PLANETARY identification of the first hour of the day, knowing how long it lasts, we must now see what planets rule the hours that follow.

The planetary hours follow the same MAGICAL order as the seven planets of Tradition: SATURN, JUPITER, MARS, SUN, VENUS, MERCURY and MOON. Those who want to remember this easily can form with the first syllable of the planet names, the following formula: SA-JU-MA-SOL-VE-ME-LU, and will never forget such order.

PRACTICAL CALCULATION EXAMPLE

According to the previous example, we would then have for sunrise at 7:15 and sunset at 17:45, on Friday (for example), the following result, considering that the day hours are 52 minutes and a half.

The Sun rises, on Friday and begins at 7:15 until 8:07 and a half, the HOUR OF VENUS. And so successively; but, to facilitate we can make one hour of 52 minutes and the next of 53, and so successively, which gives comfortable compensation:

DAY HOURS (FRIDAY EXAMPLE):

  1. 7:15 until 8:08 - Hour of VENUS (for being Friday)
  2. 8:08 until 9:00 - MERCURY
  3. 9:00 until 9:53 - MOON
  4. 9:53 until 10:45 - SATURN
  5. 10:45 until 11:38 - JUPITER
  6. 11:38 until 12:30 - MARS
  7. 12:30 until 13:23 - SUN
  8. 13:23 until 14:15 - VENUS
  9. 14:15 until 15:08 - MERCURY
  10. 15:08 until 16:00 - MOON
  11. 16:00 until 16:53 - SATURN
  1. 16:53 until 17:45 - JUPITER (last hour of day)

At this moment THE SUN SETS AND THE HOURS OF NIGHT BEGIN WHICH, AS WE HAVE SEEN, LAST 67 MINUTES AND A HALF; we will make ONE of 67 minutes and the next of 68, and we will have thus:

NIGHT HOURS (CONTINUING FRIDAY EXAMPLE):

  1. 17:45 until 18:52 - Hour of MARS (first hour of night)
  2. 18:52 until 20:00 - SUN
  3. 20:00 until 21:07 - VENUS
  4. 21:07 until 22:15 - MERCURY
  5. 22:15 until 23:22 - MOON
  6. 23:22 until 24:30 - SATURN
  7. 24:30 until 1:37 - JUPITER
  8. 1:37 until 2:45 - MARS
  9. 2:45 until 3:52 - SUN
  10. 3:52 until 5:00 - VENUS
  11. 5:00 until 6:07 - MERCURY
  12. 6:07 until 7:15 - MOON

Upon ending the night hours begins, from 7:15 until 8:08 the HOUR OF SATURN which, effectively, corresponds to Saturday that follows the Friday with which we had made the example; which demonstrates that everything was well calculated, since, with the sunrise on Saturday, the hour of Saturn really begins, which will be followed, from 8:08 to 9:00 by the hour of Jupiter and so successively.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Since you can find daily in civil newspapers the indication of the HOUR of SUNRISE and that of SUNSET of the Sun, it is easy for you to make the calculations, guided by our example, until later, with practice, you will see that it is very simple.

In the next article I will give the MEANING and USE of each planetary hour.

THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF PLANETARY HOURS FOR WARTIME SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

This systematic presentation of horary astrology appears in August 1942 when precise timing becomes essential for spiritual work during periods when external circumstances offer little guidance for optimal action. The detailed methodology provides tools for working with cosmic rhythms rather than against them when material timing systems may be disrupted or unreliable.

The Solar Foundation Principle: The teaching that "when the Sun is born, the first of the ASTROLOGICAL HOURS OF THE DAY begins" establishes natural cosmic timing as the foundation for spiritual practice rather than artificial human conventions. During wartime, when mechanical clocks may be damaged and civil time zones disrupted, solar-based timing provides reliable universal reference points.

The Variable Duration System: The recognition that astrological hours vary in length according to the "ARC OF THE DAY" demonstrates that cosmic timing follows natural rhythms rather than mechanical uniformity. This understanding becomes crucial during periods when rigid mechanical approaches prove inadequate for navigating complex spiritual and practical challenges requiring adaptive rather than fixed responses.

This understanding becomes crucial during periods when rigid mechanical approaches prove inadequate for navigating complex spiritual and practical challenges requiring adaptive rather than fixed responses.

The Day-Night Compensation: The mathematical relationship where night hours are longer when day hours are shorter (and vice versa) demonstrates the universal principle of balance operating through time itself. During wartime, when periods of intense activity must be balanced by periods of rest and recovery, understanding natural rhythm compensation prevents exhaustion from trying to maintain constant high energy.

The Planetary Sequence Logic: The "MAGICAL order" of planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon) represents a systematic progression from the most material and slow-moving influences to the most subtle and rapidly changing ones. The mnemonic device (SA-JU-MA-SOL-VE-ME-LU) provides accessible memory aid for maintaining this traditional sequence during periods when written references may be unavailable.

The Weekly Day Correspondence: The alignment between weekday names and their ruling planets demonstrates how traditional knowledge was embedded in common cultural practices that survived even when their spiritual significance was forgotten. During wartime displacement, recognizing these hidden spiritual references in everyday language provides continuity with traditional wisdom despite disruption of formal teaching structures.

The Calculation Accessibility: The detailed mathematical example using specific sunrise/sunset times (7:15 to 17:45) with practical hour divisions (52-53 minutes for day, 67-68 minutes for night) demonstrates that horary astrology can be calculated with basic arithmetic rather than requiring complex instruments or specialized knowledge.

The Civil Time Reference: The suggestion to use "civil newspapers" for daily sunrise/sunset times shows how spiritual practice can be maintained using commonly available information rather than requiring specialized ephemerides or astronomical data. During wartime, when specialized resources may be scarce, this accessibility ensures continued practice under adverse circumstances.

The Verification Principle: The demonstration that the calculation correctly transitions from Friday to Saturday (ending with Moon hour at 7:15, beginning Saturday with Saturn hour at 7:15) provides mathematical proof of the system's internal consistency. This verification principle builds confidence in the method's reliability during periods when external confirmation may be difficult to obtain.

This verification principle builds confidence in the method's reliability during periods when external confirmation may be difficult to obtain.

The Universal Applicability: The use of Montevideo as the example location while providing methodology applicable anywhere demonstrates how universal principles can be adapted to local conditions without losing essential accuracy. During wartime, when populations face displacement and relocation, portable calculation methods that work anywhere become especially valuable.

The Natural Rhythm Restoration: The emphasis on following solar rather than purely mechanical timing helps restore connection with natural cosmic rhythms that industrial civilization tends to obscure. During wartime, when mechanical systems may fail or become unreliable, maintaining connection with natural timing systems provides stability and continuity.

The Preparation for Practice: The promise to provide "MEANING and USE of each planetary hour" in subsequent articles demonstrates systematic pedagogical approach that builds practical competence gradually rather than overwhelming students with too much information simultaneously. During crisis periods, when learning capacity may be reduced by stress, graduated instruction ensures effective knowledge transmission.

THE DEEPER SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE

The horary system demonstrates how authentic spiritual practice requires cooperation with rather than opposition to cosmic forces. During wartime, when human will often operates in destructive rather than constructive directions, aligning individual action with cosmic timing provides access to forces that transcend merely human limitations and serve universal rather than merely personal or national purposes.

The system also provides practical training in the principle that spiritual effectiveness depends on right timing as much as right intention. During crisis periods, when well-intentioned actions can have devastating unintended consequences if undertaken at inappropriate times, developing sensitivity to cosmic timing becomes essential for effective service rather than unconscious interference with evolutionary processes.

Notes on My Journey to Eastern Countries

Obligatory Visit to the Temple of Madura (Conclusion)

Sacred Temple Experiences and Cave Meditations

By Maya, S.I.

After having admired all those works of art, we directed ourselves to the Secret Temple, to which no foreigner can be admitted without having some "special" reference.

For one who wants to judge lightly, that "subterranean Temple" could seem "obscene," for not understanding its highly esoteric and mysterious significance.

THE MAGICAL OPENING

For one who wants to judge lightly, that "subterranean Temple" could seem "obscene," for not understanding its highly esoteric and mysterious significance.

THE MAGICAL OPENING

Those doors open before us, as if by magic, those doors that seem to have perceived the magical "Open Sesame"; those heavy iron obstacles are removed, flanked by not very reassuring guardians who look, trying to scrutinize in the hearts of those who pass, and know the reasons why foreigners have been able to reach that sacred precinct, closed many times even to the own children of the place.

We enter and those terrible doors so little reassuring close from within.

What made them open? Who made them close? Mystery.

It seems to us as if our small committee of three were accompanied by Another, invisible, who silently commands...

THE SACRED PROCREATION SYMBOLISM

What an unforgettable spectacle our eyes admire! The Hindu mind never looked at the act of procreation as an obscene thing but, on the contrary, very sacred.

Religion is so intimately mixed with certain facts or acts of Hindu life, that each physical act has its religious significance. Thus, we have seen that the sacred "Lingam" was the representative symbol of the organ of procreation, of masculine power, and also represented the emblem of the Creator and of Eternity through renovation.

There we realized that devotion to the creative energy of God, represented by the symbols of "Lingam" and "Yoni" in union, is apparently as old as man.

Some of the images we see are interpretations made in stone, of the science of Love of the Kama-Sutra of Vatsyayana. These figures do not represent any obscenity, but enclose a highly religious meaning. There are also represented the cow with its calves, newly born around it.

In that Temple is represented all the symbolism of Eternal Life, eternal fountain of forces that animates and populates our Universe, both "above as below," thus always maintaining the immortality of Life in Forms in perpetual renovation.

THE MAHARISHI'S MEDITATION CAVE

We head back and, as if by magic, appears a boy who guides us to the entrance of the cave, in which for a long time, the Maharishi remained enclosed dedicating himself to profound meditations.

This cave seemed like the mouth of a monster, ready to devour the first one who dared to approach. We dared to cast an almost furtive glance and felt in the deepest part of our souls the following affirmation:

"Only one who is great by his nature and nobility of soul, with immaculate purity and holiness, can enter it, live and meditate there without feeling disturbed, remaining free of nightmares and fear of the unknown..."

THE MYSTERIOUS INNER QUESTIONING

Our eyes felt attracted as by a strong magnet, and our ears perceived again mysterious questions formulated in the deepest part of our being:

"Would not the luminous Path of True Light be there below, in that immense solitude and darkness?" "Would not the answer to the enigma of Life and Death also be hidden there? Does not that dark corner await the happy mortal who may dare to dwell in it, to dedicate himself to knowledge of the Absolute? Would not be realized in that mysterious cave, the last step of the mysterious as well as Sacred Yoga, which is the final union of man with the Universal God?"... Mysteries...

... We walk back, silent, given to profound meditations and our minds were filling more and more with the beautiful and holy image of the Beloved Guru Maharishi, who smiled at us with infinite love..., and the memory of his farewell words impressed us: "It would be necessary that you visit the Temple of Madura...", and we remembered that the Guru was born there, in a small village near Madura, called TIRUCHUZHI...

THE DESTINED FULFILLMENT

Our destiny had been fulfilled. Before leaving India, we had had to come to Madura, because, despite having wanted to go toward Madras, Illusion, the Veil of Maya, cast over all the employees and passengers of the train, had brought us there.

When, after a day of travel, we arrived at Madras, the first thing they delivered to us was a good letter from the Master, from the Maharishi, which, upon ending, asked: "Did you like visiting Madura?"...

We thus had written proof, which completed the LIVED proofs, of the power of those Holy Masters... Things of mysterious India, Beautiful and Holy Abode!

Blessed be you, India Land, who shelters in your bosom such Holy and Elevated Gurus!

Bandangí... Bandangí...!

Namasté... Namasté...!

Salam... Salam...!

THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF SACRED TEMPLE EXPERIENCE DURING WARTIME

This profound account of mystical temple experience appears in August 1942 when authentic spiritual encounters become essential for maintaining connection with transcendent reality during periods when material circumstances suggest that only destructive forces operate in the world. The detailed description provides evidence of living spiritual tradition that transcends the political and cultural divisions that have created global warfare.

The Special Reference Requirement: The teaching that "no foreigner can be admitted without having some 'special' reference" demonstrates that authentic spiritual experience requires proper preparation and qualified introduction rather than mere curiosity or academic interest. During wartime, when superficial approaches to spirituality proliferate as people seek escape from harsh realities, recognition of the necessity for genuine qualification becomes essential.

During wartime, when superficial approaches to spirituality proliferate as people seek escape from harsh realities, recognition of the necessity for genuine qualification becomes essential.

The Automatic Door Opening: The "magical" opening of doors "as if by magic" with "heavy iron obstacles" being "removed" by unseen agency demonstrates how authentic spiritual seeking creates its own opportunities through forces beyond ordinary human control. During periods when external circumstances seem to block all positive possibilities, understanding that genuine spiritual aspiration generates its own fulfillment provides hope and guidance.

The Invisible Companion: The perception that their "small committee of three were accompanied by Another, invisible, who silently commands" reveals how authentic spiritual pilgrimage receives guidance and protection from sources beyond ordinary awareness. During wartime, when visible authorities may be untrustworthy or hostile to spiritual development, recognition of invisible spiritual guidance becomes essential for safe navigation.

The Sacred Sexuality Understanding: The explanation that "the Hindu mind never looked at the act of procreation as an obscene thing but, on the contrary, very sacred" provides understanding of sexuality as divine creative power rather than mere biological function. During wartime, when violence and destruction dominate consciousness, reconnecting with the sacred nature of creative force becomes essential for psychological and spiritual healing.

The Religious Life Integration: The teaching that "religion is so intimately mixed with certain facts or acts of Hindu life, that each physical act has its religious significance" demonstrates how authentic spirituality integrates all aspects of existence rather than remaining separate from practical life. During periods when spiritual and material concerns appear to conflict, understanding their essential unity becomes crucial for maintaining integrated rather than fragmented consciousness.

The Lingam-Yoni Symbolism: The recognition of these symbols as representing "the creative energy of God" and being "as old as man" demonstrates the universal nature of spiritual symbolism that transcends particular cultural expressions. During wartime, when cultural differences become militarized, recognizing universal spiritual principles expressed through diverse symbolic systems becomes essential for post-war reconciliation.

The Kama-Sutra Reinterpretation: The understanding that stone carvings from Vatsyayana's love science "do not represent any obscenity, but enclose a highly religious meaning" demonstrates how apparent sensuality can express spiritual truth when properly understood. During periods when crude materialism dominates consciousness, recovering the spiritual significance of physical existence becomes essential for balanced development.
