## Sri Ramana Maharishi: The Complete Spiritual Biography
### From Law Student to Realized Sage
**By Dr. Jehel, S.I.**
In the pamphlet distributed at the beginning of 1942 by the Martinist Order, there is the portrait of the Venerable Master Maharishi, about whose Ashram Maya spoke to us in the last issue of "La Iniciación."
In the portrait one sees upon a divan, a beautiful and robust body dominated by a most noble head. What draws attention is the sculptural purity of the body, the perfection of its proportions and the line of the belly, index of long cultivation of muscles and plexuses through gentle and lasting processes; what still draws attention is the small squirrel that, so wild in general, appears so restfully happy upon the Master's leg; but more than everything, what impresses the sensitive one is the nobility of the head, true head of a pure Rishi, powerful and gentle, in which one feels the habit and the power of thinking and meditating profoundly and without effort, in which one identifies, immediately, the physical Temple of a most elevated Thought, the dwelling of a luminous Spirit. It is about that Venerable Personality that I want today to offer rapid notes.
## THE EARLY LIFE AND SPIRITUAL AWAKENING
Sri Ramana Maharishi was, when young, the law student son of a noble family of whom Maya spoke to us in his preceding article. As a student, he felt no love for the studies he was doing, and his brother, also a student, commented to him one time: "If your thought is always directed to spiritual things, why do you insist on these studies?"
The truthfulness of such observation awakened in the youth profound reflection, and the consequence was that he departed, secretly, from his house, on that same night, leaving a letter directed to his family, asking that they lose neither time nor money in searching for him, because he was going to seek THAT which his spiritual vocation indicated to him.
Without resources, with three rupees quickly finished, he threw himself into the adventure, followed the impulse that always carried him forward; he walked, traveled leagues and leagues, days and months, seeing, observing, seeking and finding no satisfaction in any of the teachings, eternal commentaries that, from the most diverse sources, he collected in his pilgrimage.
## THE CALL OF THE SACRED MOUNTAIN
## THE CALL OF THE SACRED MOUNTAIN
And from valley to valley, from mountain to mountain, from region to region, he went, without the internal Voice giving him rest. Inflexibly, it directed him toward the Sacred Mountain, the Red Mountain, the Mountain of ARUNACHALA, celebrated in the traditions of India for its sanctity, for having been, since immemorial times, inhabited by Elevated Beings, Holy Yogis and Initiates of the highest categories.
Arriving at the Temple of Arunachala he felt that there he would find what he sought, and such was the intensity of his feeling, so sincere the faith of his soul that, before entering the Temple, he abandoned EVERYTHING, even his own clothes, and naked of body and open of soul he penetrated into the Temple, disposed never to leave there without having found the Light.
## THE TEMPLE PERIOD: NAKED SURRENDER
The priests of the Temple, thinking that the people who went there on pilgrimage would not accept the presence of this figure, always in meditation, completely naked, asked him so much that they obtained that he wear at least a small loincloth, the only clothing that he uses until today, since then.
Little by little, the young thinker noticed that the visits of the faithful and pilgrims did not permit him the necessary silence, and he withdrew to less frequented places of the Temple, to the corridors and courtyards, in which he was seen in meditations and ecstasies ever more frequent, ever more prolonged. Mischievous boys, as there are in all parts, threw stones at him or hit him, without his moving from his meditation; and, upon leaving it, he caressed them and sweet words came from his lips.
## THE UNDERGROUND RETREAT
He took refuge below the Temple, in the cave of which Maya spoke to us, where the insects and wild animals came to visit him and already respected the elevated Presence. It was in those times that the priests, perhaps naturally, exploited his presence for the benefit of the Temple.
Whether it was to avoid them this error, or for other reasons, the young ascetic retired to the Mountain itself, in a very hidden cave, in which there had lived, for years much more numerous than what human life generally lasts, a Holy Yogi who, when he passed to the other side of life, left his remains in the very cave where they buried him, understanding that such a body should remain there, for many and holy reasons.
## THE YEARS OF CAVE SOLITUDE
In that cave, the ascetic Maharishi lived for years; he left it only to go begging from time to time for some food, until that too ceased, when a good woman from the surroundings took the custom of taking it to him periodically to the cave.
## THE YEARS OF CAVE SOLITUDE
In that cave, the ascetic Maharishi lived for years; he left it only to go begging from time to time for some food, until that too ceased, when a good woman from the surroundings took the custom of taking it to him periodically to the cave.
The young yogi was frequently seen in the sun mountains, remaining in meditation or ecstasy for hours in succession, with his eyes fixed on the Sun. This fact, significant for those who "know," made elevated yogis and wise pandits begin to come, from afar, to consult him, and some, having obtained from Him answers that resolved problems that years of study had not clarified for them, the fame of the ascetic spread in the region and beyond it.
## THE BEGINNING OF THE MASTER'S MISSION
The mission of the MASTER was beginning. He had to accept, little by little, an ever greater number of disciples and visitors, and, from the necessity of sheltering them, the Ashram was born, since Maharishi wanted nothing for himself. But the disciples understood the necessity of permitting those who sought the presence of the Master, the possibility of staying near his dwelling. The Ashram of Arunachala was the dwelling of the students, in which the Master also came to reside, with all the goods that they finally made him accept: the loincloth, the water vessel and the bamboo staff; the only goods that he really has.
## THE RECOGNITION AS MAHARISHI
The fame of Maharishi grew, and he already found himself obliged to accept that they call him MAHARISHI, that is "GREAT SOUL, GREAT SPIRIT," name that has always been reserved in India for Those who are really descendants of the holy and wise Rishis. Maharishi remained only with the name by which the most intimate disciples designate him. And his fame spread until it reached the ears of Maharishi's mother, who thought that the mysterious yogi could be her lost son. She made the painful journey, arrived at the Ashram and recognizing the dear son, asked him, for her mother's love, that he return to the home, now that he already had the spiritual treasure that he so sought and for which he had abandoned everything.
## THE SUPREME TEST: DIVINE LIGHT VS. MOTHER'S LOVE
Then occurred the following magnificent fact: with the firm gentleness of one who knows and feels, the Maharishi explained to his mother what he felt as Path and Mission, and the union that existed between the Sacred Mountain of Arunachala and his life as an Initiate. And that mother who, armed with all the marvelous arguments of a mother's heart, had come to snatch from the Mountain the beloved son, did more and better; she remained in the Ashram, not as mother of Maharishi, but as disciple of the Maharishi.
The DIVINE LIGHT had been stronger than mother's love.
The DIVINE LIGHT had been stronger than mother's love.
For many years, the disciples saw that holy woman care for the Master, with that double affection of mother and disciple and, when the path of her life ended, the tomb in which she then rested on the Mountain, was and is always adorned with the flowers that all bring to venerate the memory of the Woman who permitted the Incarnation of the Master and who surpassed her mother's love, in homage to the Light.
## THE ASHRAM: THE LIVING TEACHING
In the Ashram, in the principal room, one sees, upon a divan, a beautiful and robust body, dominated by most noble head. Thus those who arrive see him, and they make the usual, simple and harmonious salute, of hands united by the palms, then separate them, that opening of arms signifying: "My soul is with yours." And they sit in the usual posture, of legs crossed under the body. All look at the Master. The Maharishi's eyes fix a point; no one knows what he looks at, but the ecstasy gives to his gaze and to his aura such potency, that all feel IMPROVED, all know that there, in that moment, He helps them to rise in state of meditation, to realize the solution of the problem that he always poses to his disciples: "Who are you?"
## THE CENTRAL TEACHING: "WHO AM I?"
And that "Who am I?" that each disciple has to live, makes the Being retreat into its most internal folds, seek what IS and what only seems to be.
The search continues, days and days, weeks, months and years for some, perhaps, until the moment comes when, as the Maharishi says:
"The wheel of thought stops. The Light enters." Magnificent complement of Patanjali's phrase: "Yoga is to prevent Chitta from taking diverse forms: Vrittis."
But the stage that the Maharishi teaches us to seek is not just that: that of fixing the thought easily upon the object. It is higher and more difficult: it is that of arriving at the Thinking that does not think, at the Perceiving that does not feel; at that explosion of Light that internally floods all the I...
## THE MIRACULOUS HEALING POWERS
MAYA told us, in a previous article, that Maharishi had cured thousands of people just by looking at them. Some also know notable facts, like that of that woman who having lost in two or three days all her family members to the plague, was so full of pain that she knew no more sleep nor conserved energy to live. They brought her to the presence of the Master. She spoke, told, commented, let all her pain explode, asked for solutions, for consolation... The Master, for a time, said nothing. Afterward, gently, he insinuated: "I will weep your pain with you." And that Being, whom nothing can hurt nor make suffer more, because he is already liberated from human preoccupations, "wept with the unfortunate one" for some moments... and the miracle was made. Peace progressively penetrated the wounded heart and peace took possession of the wretched woman... and the Ashram had one more disciple of Serenity and Active Silence.
and the miracle was made. Peace progressively penetrated the wounded heart and peace took possession of the wretched woman... and the Ashram had one more disciple of Serenity and Active Silence.
## THE DAILY RHYTHM OF GRACE
On another occasion, I will tell you something more about the Venerable Master. For today, I will only remember that between midday and one-thirty in the afternoon, are the hours in which, with certainty (for our clocks) the Maharishi is in ecstasy in the Ashram, in the Living Silence, the disciples meditate and feel, the aromas rise from the perfumes that burn in fine sticks... The AURA OF THE MAHARISHI unites with ALL those who, near or far from Him seek the Light with His help. Seek it, if you wish, with Love and Desire for Light, Love and Veneration toward the Master.
## THE THREE STAGES OF SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
**Quotation by Jehel:**
He who has not begun to think daily more of others than of himself, does not yet know where the Path is found.
He who thinks much of others, very little of himself, found the Path.
He who thinks of others, who unites his thoughts to Universal Life and NEVER thinks of himself, IS THE PATH.

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHARISHI'S BIOGRAPHY FOR WARTIME SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE
This complete spiritual biography appears in June 1942 when humanity desperately needs a living example of authentic self-realization that transcends political and cultural divisions. The systematic presentation of Maharishi's journey from conventional student to realized sage provides the exact model needed for individual spiritual development during periods when external authorities prove inadequate or corrupt.
**The Sculptural Physical Description**: The detailed account of Maharishi's "beautiful and robust body" with "sculptural purity" and "perfection of proportions" demonstrates how authentic spiritual development enhances rather than degrades physical embodiment. The mention of the "small squirrel...so restfully happy upon the Master's leg" provides concrete evidence that genuine spiritual realization creates harmony with rather than opposition to natural life.
**The Noble Head Recognition**: The description of "the nobility of the head, true head of a pure Rishi, powerful and gentle" that serves as "the physical Temple of a most elevated Thought, the dwelling of a luminous Spirit" demonstrates how authentic spiritual development manifests through enhanced rather than diminished human faculties. During wartime, when spiritual claims often mask psychological escape, this physical evidence of spiritual achievement provides reliable criteria for distinguishing genuine from false spiritual teachers.
During wartime, when spiritual claims often mask psychological escape, this physical evidence of spiritual achievement provides reliable criteria for distinguishing genuine from false spiritual teachers.
**The Brother's Catalytic Question**: The crucial moment when Maharishi's brother asks "If your thought is always directed to spiritual things, why do you insist on these studies?" demonstrates how authentic spiritual awakening often begins through honest recognition of the conflict between inner calling and external obligations. During periods when conventional education and career paths prove inadequate for addressing existential challenges, this example provides guidance for distinguishing genuine spiritual vocation from mere dissatisfaction with circumstances.
**The Complete Surrender**: The dramatic departure from home "on that same night" with "three rupees quickly finished" demonstrates the totality of commitment required for authentic spiritual seeking. The instruction to his family not to "lose neither time nor money in searching for him" shows how genuine spiritual vocation transcends family obligations without rejecting family love.
**The Fruitless Pilgrimage**: The account of traveling "leagues and leagues, days and months...finding no satisfaction in any of the teachings, eternal commentaries" from diverse sources demonstrates that authentic spiritual realization cannot be achieved through accumulation of intellectual knowledge or following conventional spiritual paths. This provides essential understanding for sincere seekers during periods when spiritual teachers and methods proliferate due to crisis conditions.
**The Internal Voice Guidance**: The recognition that "the internal Voice" directed him "inflexibly...toward the Sacred Mountain" demonstrates how authentic spiritual seeking operates through inner guidance rather than external planning or logical decision-making. The specific destination of ARUNACHALA, "celebrated in the traditions of India for its sanctity," shows how genuine spiritual calling leads to places with authentic rather than merely popular spiritual significance.
**The Total Abandonment**: The extraordinary moment when Maharishi "abandoned EVERYTHING, even his own clothes, and naked of body and open of soul penetrated into the Temple, disposed never to leave there without having found the Light" demonstrates the complete surrender required for authentic spiritual breakthrough. This provides understanding that genuine realization requires abandonment of all security, including physical modesty and social respectability.
This provides understanding that genuine realization requires abandonment of all security, including physical modesty and social respectability.
**The Minimum Concession**: The priests' request that he wear "at least a small loincloth, the only clothing that he uses until today" shows how authentic spiritual authority accommodates social necessities without compromising essential spiritual principles. During wartime, when spiritual practice must occur within social constraints, this example demonstrates how to maintain spiritual integrity while avoiding unnecessary conflicts with conventional requirements.
**The Progressive Withdrawal**: The systematic retreat from temple visitors to "less frequented places" to "corridors and courtyards" to the underground "cave" demonstrates how deepening spiritual practice naturally requires increased solitude and silence. The detail that "mischievous boys...threw stones at him or hit him, without his moving from his meditation" followed by his caressing them with "sweet words" shows how authentic spiritual development transcends reactive emotional responses.
**The Animal Harmony**: The description that "insects and wild animals came to visit him and already respected the elevated Presence" provides concrete evidence that genuine spiritual realization creates harmony with rather than opposition to natural forces. This offers hope that human conflicts can be resolved through individual spiritual development rather than merely political or military solutions.
**The Ancient Cave Heritage**: The detail that Maharishi occupied a cave previously inhabited by "a Holy Yogi who...for years much more numerous than what human life generally lasts" whose body "should remain there, for many and holy reasons" demonstrates how authentic spiritual locations serve successive generations of genuine seekers. This provides understanding that spiritual practice connects individuals with transcendent lineages rather than merely personal achievement.
**The Solar Meditation Practice**: The specific description of Maharishi "remaining in meditation or ecstasy for hours in succession, with his eyes fixed on the Sun" demonstrates advanced spiritual technique that requires extraordinary inner development. The recognition that this fact was "significant for those who 'know'" shows how genuine spiritual achievement can be recognized by qualified observers even when not understood by general public.
**The Natural Teaching Evolution**: The progression from personal realization to reluctant teaching demonstrates how authentic spiritual authority emerges through necessity rather than ambition. The detail that disciples understood "the necessity of permitting those who sought the presence of the Master, the possibility of staying near his dwelling" shows how genuine ashrams develop organically to serve spiritual needs rather than institutional purposes.
The detail that disciples understood "the necessity of permitting those who sought the presence of the Master, the possibility of staying near his dwelling" shows how genuine ashrams develop organically to serve spiritual needs rather than institutional purposes.
**The Minimal Possessions**: The complete inventory of Maharishi's belongings—"the loincloth, the water vessel and the bamboo staff; the only goods that he really has"—demonstrates how authentic spiritual realization transcends material accumulation while meeting essential physical needs. During wartime, when material scarcity affects entire populations, this example shows how spiritual contentment can be maintained regardless of external circumstances.
**The Mother's Ultimate Test**: The supreme drama when Maharishi's mother arrives with "all the marvelous arguments of a mother's heart" to "snatch from the Mountain the beloved son" provides the ultimate test of spiritual versus personal love. Her transformation from mother seeking to reclaim her son to "disciple of the Maharishi" demonstrates how authentic spiritual authority can transform rather than destroy natural human relationships.
**The Divine Light Victory**: The recognition that "the DIVINE LIGHT had been stronger than mother's love" establishes the hierarchy of spiritual values without diminishing the beauty of human affection. The mother's care for the Master "with that double affection of mother and disciple" shows how spiritual relationships can include rather than exclude natural relationships when properly understood.
**The Living Teaching Method**: The simple but profound daily practice in the Ashram where disciples sit with the Master who helps them "rise in state of meditation, to realize the solution of the problem that he always poses to his disciples: 'Who are you?'" demonstrates how authentic spiritual instruction operates through transmission of states of consciousness rather than mere intellectual communication.
**The Central Spiritual Technology**: The teaching progression from the question "Who am I?" through the retreat into "most internal folds" to distinguish what "IS" from what "only seems to be" until "the wheel of thought stops" and "the Light enters" provides complete methodology for authentic self-realization that can be practiced anywhere regardless of external circumstances.
**The Healing Through Compassion**: The extraordinary account of healing the plague-stricken woman through the simple promise "I will weep your pain with you" demonstrates how authentic spiritual power operates through love rather than technique. The Master's willingness to "weep with the unfortunate one" despite being "liberated from human preoccupations" shows how genuine realization includes rather than excludes compassionate engagement with human suffering.
The Master's willingness to "weep with the unfortunate one" despite being "liberated from human preoccupations" shows how genuine realization includes rather than excludes compassionate engagement with human suffering.
**The Universal Transmission**: The promise that between "midday and one-thirty in the afternoon...the AURA OF THE MAHARISHI unites with ALL those who, near or far from Him seek the Light with His help" provides practical guidance for connecting with authentic spiritual transmission regardless of physical proximity. During wartime, when direct access to spiritual teachers may be impossible, this understanding enables continued spiritual development through sincere seeking.

## Commentary on the First Degree of Martinism (Continuation)
### The Apprentice's Temple: Universal Symbolism and Cosmic Correspondences
**Teaching of Jehel**
## THE TEMPLE OF THE APPRENTICE
In almost all Rites, the Temple of the Apprentice Mason is a long rectangular hall, whose walls are respectively called: NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST, to show that the environment is UNIVERSAL.
The floor of the Temple is composed of great alternating mosaics, white and black, evident image of relative Good and Evil, over or between which we have to walk through life, and which are, both, "necessary and co-existent," since they form the very "floor" of the visible world, of terrestrial life, and, for those who know, of all the WORLD OF FORMS, principally of the densest and most visible.
## THE WALLS: THE ASTRAL PLANE REPRESENTATION
The walls of the Temple, from the floor to the molding that separates them from the ceiling, are red, evident image of the astral plane or of the forces, where the "incarnation" and "disincarnation" proceed in their true sense, that is, to the Sacrifice of passing from the World of Principles to that of concrete and material Forms, or vice-versa.
## THE CEILING: THE CELESTIAL WORLD
The ceiling is generally composed of a blue vault that bears the constellations of the Zodiac, various stars and the planets, except the Sun and the Moon. From the side of the door that goes to the external or profane World, the Storms immediately approach: beautiful symbol for the initiate and even more profound for the Initiator or Divulgator of any esoteric path or truth.
From the side of the door that goes to the external or profane World, the Storms immediately approach: beautiful symbol for the initiate and even more profound for the Initiator or Divulgator of any esoteric path or truth.
From what we have already seen of this Temple, it is deduced that it is the representation of the Universe, with its three interpenetrated worlds in Total Life, since they are in a single thing, the Temple, image of the Path of Total Life. But these planes are different in manifestation, as their separation into floor, walls and vault shows. It should be noted, still, that floor and walls are forms of two dimensions, that is, planes that INTERSECT and produce ANGLES, symbol of struggle and of contrasts. The ceiling, on the contrary, is a segment of spherical vault, that is, of SPHERE, perfect and regular form. The fact that it is a "segment" shows that the Temple refers to OUR UNIVERSE, which is also indicated by our Zodiac; and from there it is deduced that the TOTAL SPHERE to which the segment belongs would be the TOTAL UNIVERSE, sum of all Systems, including ours.
## THE ROPE WITH 81 KNOTS
On the walls, upon reaching the height of the molding that marks the end of the wall and the beginning of the vault of the ceiling, runs a thick rope, which has in its total course 81 knots. These 81 knots symbolize the following: 9 is the number of the Initiate or of any Initiation particularly considered; 9 times 9 gives 81, is the representation both of the Union of all Initiates and of Total Initiation (81 equals 1 plus 8, which is again Nine) that is composed of all partial Initiations, or better said, gives them origin or animates them.
From such rope, upon each of its ends reaching near the Door of the Temple, they descend to the height of a man's head. There, the points of the ropes are frayed, to show the mason that the elementary Initiate is one of those small threads that are part of the total rope, which they form in conjunto and are, therefore, also a particle of that Great Truth or Universal Initiatic Current that the Rope itself represents.
## THE SOLAR AND LUNAR SYMBOLS
To finish with what the walls contain, we must still consider three important symbols:
On the wall of the East, situated behind the Altar of the Venerable, one sees, to the right of the Venerable, the SUN, and to his left, the MOON, that is, the two stars that most directly influence terrestrial life.
The SUN, giver of life and source of all vital and positive force in our terrestrial manifestation. Source of EMANATED Light.
The MOON, source of REFLECTED Light, governing all that is passive and receptive, all the material face of things that "contain" the life of the Sun in our small planet.
Synthetically: the Sun and the Moon show the Law of Polarization in its most REAL aspect, most living, in its very sources, so that the Initiate may meditate and know from where he must draw energies, according to the Pole that directs his efforts.
Synthetically: the Sun and the Moon show the Law of Polarization in its most REAL aspect, most living, in its very sources, so that the Initiate may meditate and know from where he must draw energies, according to the Pole that directs his efforts.
## THE LUMINOUS TRIANGLE
Between the Sun and the Moon, from the molding where the rope is, and exactly from the central point of said rope, descends the curtain that constitutes the decoration of the throne where the Venerable sits.
And in the upper part of such curtain, forming an equilateral triangle with the Sun and the Moon, one sees, in almost all Rites, a luminous triangle, of blue or white glass, illuminated by a small lamp behind the glass. Upon the luminous transparent is painted, according to the rites, one of the following three symbols, which signify the same thing, seen at diverse heights:
Either a letter "G," with rays, image of all creation, as we will see when studying the Companion degree.
Or the Tetragram, in Chaldean or Aramaic letters: [translate:Iod-Hé-Vau-Hé], quaternary name of the Great Architect of the Universe, whose occult meaning is the key to all superior cabalistic study.
Or the Aramaic letter "I" ([translate:iod]), which in Hebrew, Egyptian, as well as old Indian initiations, was the starting point of all creative manifestation. Initial letter of [translate:Iod-Hé-Vau-Hé], of INRI, of the name of Jesus, etc...
We thus verify that, be it one or another of the three symbols, the Masonic Lodge always places, above the Venerable, an image representing the Supreme and Universal Divine Wisdom, interpreted by the human mind through millenary symbols.
## THE HUMAN REALIZATION LEVEL
Let us descend a step in observation; let us arrive now at the part of Human Realization of such Doctrine upon the Earth, that is, in the human plane.
We have already seen that the "floor" upon which Humanity is going to "operate" (work) is that alternating mixture of Good and Evil symbolized by the white and black pavement. Upon this "floor" there are "furnishings," that is, "fixed places," functions in other words.
Below the Supreme Symbol (luminous triangle) is the throne where the Venerable sits, who represents Supreme Wisdom, manifested, in the human plane, by the Supreme Hierophant of the Temple.
To his right and left, near the columns situated on both sides of the door, at the other end of the Temple, are situated the altars where the VIGILANTES sit. Near Column "J" is the First Vigilant, representation of Force in all its manifestations; spiritual force, moral or astral force, physical force, all of them IN MAN. For that reason he is near Column "J" (JAKIN) which represents POWER AND FORCE, masculine and positive pole.
Near Column "J" is the First Vigilant, representation of Force in all its manifestations; spiritual force, moral or astral force, physical force, all of them IN MAN. For that reason he is near Column "J" (JAKIN) which represents POWER AND FORCE, masculine and positive pole.
Near Column "B" is the altar of the 2nd Vigilant, human representative of Beauty, that is, of Form, of Matter, of Realization. And it is very beautiful that this symbolism of Masonry has not said directly Matter, Realization or Form, but rather BEAUTY, showing that the Initiate should not be able to conceive any Form, realization or objectification that is not BEAUTIFUL, that is, true, adjusted to the Doctrine. For that reason, this altar is near Column BOHAZ ("B") which signifies Beauty, Form, etc...
## THE TRIPLE SYNTHESIS
The summary of the placement of these three altars or functions, shows the Masonic conception of human realization of Universal Harmony: to depart from Wisdom, to, with spiritual, moral and even physical Force, realize Beauty, Harmony.
It is, at the same time, the explicit expression of the Three Planes that compose Man: Spirit or Wisdom; Soul or Force of Life and of Feeling; Beauty and Form, that is, Body and material means of action.
But, to be in reality magically balanced, the Masonic Temple should have on the "floor," that is, in the human plane, the synthetic manifestation of that Supreme Wisdom, impossible to understand by Man, symbolized by the Divine, luminous Triangle.
## THE TRIANGULAR ALTAR AND THE SACRED BOOK
And so it really happens: in front of the altar of the Venerable, there is another small triangular altar, upon which oaths are taken and initiations to the diverse degrees are made. Upon this altar there is a book, which should be a volume of ALL THE SACRED SCRIPTURES REVEALED TO HUMANITY in the diverse epochs and races. But modern Masonry, for special reasons, has used, for a long time, only the Bible, and such Bible is always open in the session on the page of the Gospel of Saint John, which begins with the words: "In the beginning was the Word..."
I feel profoundly that, eventually, readers cannot reach to where such symbol goes; it is an affirmation always triple, like everything, that I will try to summarize without lifting too much the veil of the arcanes:
1) – All Practical Key is in the knowledge of the Human Word.
2) – Follow the Word of the Revealer, who, for you, best manifests the Divine Word.
3) – Perhaps, one day, that will lead you to hear the Divine Word directly.
I have said all that I could say. Let whoever wishes meditate. Let them take what they can.
## THE CENTRAL LINE ALIGNMENT
In any case, I ask that all consider that in the Masonic Temple, the only "objects" (I have to call them something) that are on the CENTRAL LINE of the Temple, are the following:
Let whoever wishes meditate. Let them take what they can.
## THE CENTRAL LINE ALIGNMENT
In any case, I ask that all consider that in the Masonic Temple, the only "objects" (I have to call them something) that are on the CENTRAL LINE of the Temple, are the following:
The Luminous Triangle, - the Venerable and his Throne – the Gospel of the Word... Then, this line continues to the Door of the Temple... and is lost in the profane world... if indeed it is lost.
In some Rites, in the middle of the Temple, on the floor, upon the central line, there is also a drawing where the Apprentice's tools are drawn which are, as we will see later, simple commentaries of application of the general doctrine already expounded.
## THE SACRED COLUMNS: J AND B
Let us continue the examination of the Temple. Let us see more closely those two columns that rise to right and left of the door, upon entering.
In first place, they have a common characteristic: their external form. Both have a quadrangular base, image of matter or concrete plane upon which Universal Manifestation rests. Upon this base, rests and seems to really emerge from it, the shaft or cylindrical part of the column that has a height twice greater than the base. It is the image of the intermediate world, astral or of forces. The column terminates, in its upper part, by the capital, "florid and delicate" manifestation, image of spiritual things. Upon this capital, according to the rites, one or three "pomegranate" fruits rest.
## THE POMEGRANATE SYMBOLISM
The pomegranate is a fruit, beautiful already from its external aspect, of delicate skin and of living and vital colors. Removed the film, there appear a series of "grains," all transparent, full of reddish liquid, like human blood, and all also perfectly "united." It is one of the most beautiful images of Masonic symbolism, since it puts in evidence that the ideal sought by this Order is the purity and union of its members in the most vital part of human existence. The placement of the pomegranate ABOVE the column dominating everything, shows that, WITHOUT UNION, WITHOUT PURITY, nothing will be realized initiatically.
**(To be continued)**
## SACRED QUOTATIONS
"The Triangle is the universal symbol of the particular laws that have produced substances."
"There exists no material fact that does not carry in itself, an intellectual truth."
"The revivification of the will is the principal task of all guilty beings."
**Louis Claude de Saint Martin**
"INITIATION serves to elevate the Soul from material life, diffusing in it the LIGHT."
**Proclus**

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF MASONIC TEMPLE SYMBOLISM FOR WARTIME RECONSTRUCTION
This systematic analysis of Masonic temple symbolism appears in June 1942 when understanding universal principles becomes essential for post-war reconstruction based on spiritual rather than merely political foundations. The detailed instruction provides complete methodology for organizing civilization according to cosmic principles rather than arbitrary human arrangements.
**The Universal Orientation**: The designation of temple walls as "NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST, to show that the environment is UNIVERSAL" establishes the fundamental principle that authentic spiritual work transcends particular geographic, cultural, or national boundaries. During wartime, when nationalist ideologies dominate public discourse, this universal orientation provides the foundation necessary for post-war international cooperation based on shared spiritual rather than competitive material interests.
**The Dualistic Floor Pattern**: The "great alternating mosaics, white and black" representing "relative Good and Evil, over or between which we have to walk through life" as "necessary and co-existent" provides profound understanding that spiritual development requires working with rather than attempting to eliminate natural polarities. The recognition that these form "the very floor of the visible world" prevents the utopian delusion that perfect societies can be created through political arrangements alone.
**The Red Walls Significance**: The walls representing "the astral plane or of the forces, where the 'incarnation' and 'disincarnation' proceed in their true sense...to the Sacrifice of passing from the World of Principles to that of concrete and material Forms" demonstrates understanding that manifestation requires sacrifice of pure spiritual vision for practical material expression. During reconstruction periods, this provides essential understanding for leaders who must translate spiritual ideals into workable social institutions.
**The Blue Vault Symbolism**: The ceiling as "a blue vault that bears the constellations of the Zodiac, various stars and the planets, except the Sun and the Moon" with approaching "Storms" near the profane world demonstrates the relationship between cosmic forces and terrestrial challenges. The recognition that the vault represents "a segment of spherical vault...of SPHERE, perfect and regular form" while floor and walls create "ANGLES, symbol of struggle and of contrasts" shows how spiritual perspective transcends material conflicts.

**The 81 Knots Teaching**: The rope with "81 knots" where "9 is the number of the Initiate...9 times 9 gives 81...representation both of the Union of all Initiates and of Total Initiation" provides mathematical understanding of how individual spiritual development serves collective spiritual evolution. The frayed ends showing that "the elementary Initiate is one of those small threads that are part of the total rope" prevents both spiritual pride and spiritual despair by establishing proper relationship between individual development and universal work.
**The Solar-Lunar Polarity**: The systematic placement of "the SUN...source of all vital and positive force" and "the MOON...source of REFLECTED Light, governing all that is passive and receptive" demonstrates "the Law of Polarization in its most REAL aspect" providing guidance for balancing active and receptive spiritual approaches. During periods when extreme positions dominate political discourse, understanding natural polarity provides foundation for balanced rather than extremist solutions.
**The Triple Divine Symbol**: The luminous triangle containing either "G" (creation), "Iod-Hé-Vau-Hé" (divine name), or "I" (creative principle) demonstrates how "the Masonic Lodge always places...an image representing the Supreme and Universal Divine Wisdom, interpreted by the human mind through millenary symbols." This establishes the principle that authentic social institutions acknowledge transcendent authority rather than claiming ultimate authority for human systems.
**The Hierarchical Organization**: The systematic arrangement of Venerable (Wisdom), First Vigilant near Column J/JAKIN (Force), and Second Vigilant near Column B/BOHAZ (Beauty) demonstrates "the Masonic conception of human realization of Universal Harmony: to depart from Wisdom, to, with spiritual, moral and even physical Force, realize Beauty, Harmony." This provides complete organizational model for institutions that serve spiritual rather than merely material purposes.
**The Human Constitution Correspondence**: The recognition that the three temple officers represent "the Three Planes that compose Man: Spirit or Wisdom; Soul or Force of Life and of Feeling; Beauty and Form, that is, Body and material means of action" demonstrates how social organization should reflect rather than oppose human spiritual anatomy. During reconstruction periods, this provides guidance for creating institutions that support rather than fragment human development.
During reconstruction periods, this provides guidance for creating institutions that support rather than fragment human development.
**The Triangular Altar Function**: The placement of "another small triangular altar, upon which oaths are taken and initiations to the diverse degrees are made" containing "a volume of ALL THE SACRED SCRIPTURES REVEALED TO HUMANITY" demonstrates how authentic spiritual institutions honor rather than compete with diverse traditional expressions of transcendent truth. The specific opening to John's Gospel ("In the beginning was the Word") provides understanding that creative power operates through consciousness rather than mere material force.
**The Triple Word Teaching**: The progressive understanding of "Human Word," "Word of the Revealer," and "Divine Word directly" provides complete educational methodology that begins with practical communication skills, progresses through traditional transmission, and culminates in direct spiritual realization. This prevents both materialistic reduction and spiritual bypassing by establishing natural developmental stages.
**The Central Line Alignment**: The recognition that "the only objects...on the CENTRAL LINE of the Temple" are "The Luminous Triangle, - the Venerable and his Throne – the Gospel of the Word..." continuing "to the Door of the Temple...and is lost in the profane world... if indeed it is lost" demonstrates how spiritual influence operates through systematic transmission from transcendent source through qualified human representatives into practical application. The question "if indeed it is lost" suggests that authentic spiritual influence continues to operate even when not officially recognized.
**The Column Structure Analysis**: The detailed description of columns with "quadrangular base, image of matter...cylindrical part...image of the intermediate world, astral or of forces...capital, 'florid and delicate' manifestation, image of spiritual things" provides complete understanding of how manifestation proceeds from material foundation through energetic development to spiritual flowering. This offers guidance for any endeavor requiring integration of practical, psychological, and spiritual elements.
**The Pomegranate Integration**: The profound symbolism of pomegranate as "beautiful already from its external aspect" containing "grains, all transparent, full of reddish liquid, like human blood, and all also perfectly united" demonstrates the ideal of "purity and union of its members in the most vital part of human existence." The placement "ABOVE the column dominating everything" with the teaching "WITHOUT UNION, WITHOUT PURITY, nothing will be realized initiatically" provides the essential prerequisite for any authentic spiritual work.

## Practical Course in Judicial Astrology (Continuation)
### Astronomical Foundations and House System from Papus
**Teaching of SURYA, S.I.**
PAPUS continues:
"To understand well the form in which the ancients conceived the physiology of celestial bodies, it is indispensable to possess some notions of astronomy. Lacking these astronomical knowledges, treatises of astrology are, often, Chinese puzzles.
Let us suppose, then, that you are, shortly before midday, in a field in the surroundings of PARIS. What do you see?
The sky, above your head and a horizontal circle that limits vision all around you. This circle is the Horizon. The sky that is above your heads represents, quite well, a great hollow semi-sphere in which, for now you see no more than some clouds and the Sun that rises, slowly, toward the culminating point of that celestial sphere. When the Sun is at that culminating point, it will be exactly Midday in the place where you find yourselves. Imagine, now, a great semi-circle that passes through that point in which the Sun is found at midday, cutting the horizon to right and left and you will obtain, thus, what is called the Meridian, circle or semicircle.
## THE HORIZON AND MERIDIAN INTERSECTION
The Horizon, horizontal circle, and the Meridian, circle, or better said semicircle in vertical plane, intersect, as the figure (A) indicates.
But the Earth is a round mass or almost; while one of its halves is illuminated by the Sun, in the moment when the Sun indicates Midday, the opposite half of the Earth is in a cone of shadow and in Night, and it is exactly Midnight, at the apex of the cone of shadow, when it is Midday at the apex of the cone of light.
Thus, it is night below your feet, on the other side of the Earth, when the midday Sun shines above your head.
Figure – B – will give a clear idea of this very important fact.
## THE CARDINAL POINTS SYSTEM
Let us note well the so-called Cardinal Points. When the Sun is in the Meridian and you look at it, or at least turn your face toward it, you have Midday or South in front of you; the North is behind you, or more exactly, below your feet, the East to the left and the West to the right.
Let us note that such position is the contrary of what is noted on geographic maps, which are established with the North seen from the front as happens at Midnight in the northern hemisphere and at Midday in the Southern Hemisphere.
All astrologers establish the horoscope with Midday or South in front of the observer. It is essential to remember this particularity.
**Note 1**: In the example given by PAPUS, he refers to Paris, that is, the NORTHERN Hemisphere. For us in the SOUTHERN Hemisphere, the opposite happens, when at midday we look at the Sun, we look to the NORTH, we have the SOUTH below our feet, the EAST to the right and the WEST to the left, important fact to note.
## CELESTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM
For us in the SOUTHERN Hemisphere, the opposite happens, when at midday we look at the Sun, we look to the NORTH, we have the SOUTH below our feet, the EAST to the right and the WEST to the left, important fact to note.
## CELESTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM
To guide oneself on terrestrial roads, markers have been placed with numbers indicating kilometric distances. How can we guide ourselves in celestial space?
In a very simple way. The celestial vault has been divided into strips called degrees. The half of the celestial vault, visible, comprises 6 zones of 30 degrees each, which gives us 180º for the visible half and 180º for the other half. This completes 360º for the entire sphere.
The diverse stars go traveling that celestial road with different velocities. It is like on Earth, where the automobile and the peasant's cart, leaving at the same time from a village do not pass at the same time in front of the first kilometric marker, since the automobile goes much faster than the cart. In identical form, in the sky, there are faster and slower stars. Thus, the Earth makes a complete turn around the sky in 24 hours, rotating on itself. As there are 12 divisions of 30 degrees each, the Earth travels, then, ONE division every TWO HOURS.
## SOLAR AND PLANETARY MOTION
In contrast, according to visible appearance, the Sun travels each division in a month and thus needs a year for the Sun to have gone around the 360º of the sky. The reader already knows, it is clear, that it is the Earth that rotates around the Sun in a year; but we conserve the language of appearances, useful for the comprehension of Astrology.
Study with attention the figure that we will give later, which indicates the astronomical divisions of the sky. Each one of the divisions of 30 degrees constitutes what astrologers call a House. The sky is divided by astrologers into twelve Houses, in which are lodged the Signs of the Zodiac, at the rate of one per House and the Planets.
## THE HOUSE SYSTEM ESTABLISHMENT
The division of astrological Houses is established according to the march of the Sun, that is, each House of 30 degrees represents a month of the year. The astrologers' year begins in March with the Sign of Aries (Ram) – from March 20 to April 20 – and there is house number one; then comes the second with the Sign of the Bull, and so successively according to the figure.
For clarity of this elementary study, we suppose that the Houses and the Signs coincide exactly, which really happens only for people born in the first degree of Aries or Ram. We have conserved this confusion between Houses and Signs to facilitate the study of the static elements of Astrology. Later, we will make the useful observations to explain how the first house changes sign according to the birth date. Let advanced astrologers not protest, then, for now; this observation is made to indicate to them the reason of our current teaching.
**Note 2**: See note 1 on previous page.
## SEASONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Let advanced astrologers not protest, then, for now; this observation is made to indicate to them the reason of our current teaching.
**Note 2**: See note 1 on previous page.
## SEASONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Three houses indicate a season. Thus, spring is indicated by Houses: 1, 2, 3, called Aries, Taurus, Gemini and (in the northern hemisphere) go from March 21 to June 21, where summer begins, indicated by Houses: 4, 5, 6, called Cancer, Leo, Virgo, in relation to the Signs of the Zodiac and that go from June 21 to September 21. Then begins autumn with Houses 7, 8, 9 and the signs Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, that go from September 21 to December 21. On this last date begins winter, with Houses 10, 11, 12 and the signs Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, that is, from December 21 to March 21, when spring begins again, with the entry of the Sun in the sign of Aries (Let us note from now, that the Sun no longer enters, in our epoch, in the zodiacal sign of Aries on March 21. It entered there when the zodiac was established by Ram, some twelve thousand years ago. Due to the precession of the equinoxes the Sun now enters the Sign of Aries, from April 15 to May 15 and does not return to its primitive place, except every 26,000 years. We say this to avoid our readers astronomical errors and we are going to return to Astrology).
## THE ZODIACAL MEMORIZATION REQUIREMENT
It is indispensable, for the serious investigator, to learn by heart the names of the Twelve Signs of the Zodiac and the number of the Houses that they represent.
## ASCENDING AND DESCENDING HOUSES
As the Houses depart from number 1 and go to number 12, one half of them is placed in the northern or septentrional half of the celestial sphere: they are the Septentrional or Ascending Houses, that go, from the East or first House, to the West or sixth House. Houses 7 to 12 are placed in the meridional part of the sphere. They are the Descending Houses. The Signs of the Zodiac are divided exactly like the Houses, into Ascending or Septentrional and descending or Meridional signs.
The Ascending, go from the first to degree 180. The descending from 180 to 360.
## THE ANGULAR SYSTEM
Each one of the Cardinal Points determines an Angle, in which is placed the corresponding House. Thus, Aries and the First House are in the Orient and determine the Oriental Angle or ASCENDANT. This term is very important and must be remembered.
House 4 and the zodiacal Sign of Cancer form the Septentrional Angle (Nadir).
House 7 and the zodiacal Sign of Libra form the Occidental Angle or Descendant.
House 10 and the zodiacal Sign of Capricorn form the Meridional Angle. Midday or Midheaven (Zenith).
The four Houses of which we have just spoken: 1, 4, 7 and 10 are Houses of the Angles or ANGULAR HOUSES, and indicate the four Cardinal Points.
## SUCCEDENT AND CADENT HOUSES
Each House that follows an Angular House is called Succedent or Fixed House. The FIXED Houses are, then, those of numbers 2, 5, 8 and 11.
## SUCCEDENT AND CADENT HOUSES
Each House that follows an Angular House is called Succedent or Fixed House. The FIXED Houses are, then, those of numbers 2, 5, 8 and 11.
Finally, the Houses that come after a Fixed House are called Cadent, Mutable or Common Houses. The CADENT Houses are, then, those of numbers 3, 6, 9 and 12.
All this is summarized in the following figure:

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF PRACTICAL ASTROLOGICAL INSTRUCTION FOR WARTIME COSMIC UNDERSTANDING
This systematic astrological teaching appears in June 1942 when understanding cosmic forces becomes essential for navigating the unprecedented global crisis requiring cooperation with rather than opposition to universal principles. The detailed astronomical foundations provide scientific credibility for astrological practice while demonstrating how traditional wisdom integrates with rather than opposes rigorous observation.
**The Astronomical Prerequisites**: Papus's emphasis that "to understand well the form in which the ancients conceived the physiology of celestial bodies, it is indispensable to possess some notions of astronomy" and without this "treatises of astrology are, often, Chinese puzzles" establishes the principle that authentic spiritual science requires rather than avoids scientific understanding. During wartime, when many turn to spirituality as escape from material challenges, this approach prevents superstitious practice while maintaining recognition of genuine cosmic influences.
**The Horizon-Meridian System**: The detailed explanation of how "the Horizon, horizontal circle, and the Meridian...semicircle in vertical plane, intersect" provides precise geometric foundation for astrological calculation. The recognition that "while one half [of Earth] is illuminated by the Sun...the opposite half...is in a cone of shadow" demonstrates understanding that astrological influences operate through natural rather than supernatural principles.
The recognition that "while one half [of Earth] is illuminated by the Sun...the opposite half...is in a cone of shadow" demonstrates understanding that astrological influences operate through natural rather than supernatural principles.
**The Cardinal Points Integration**: The systematic explanation of how "when the Sun is in the Meridian...you have Midday or South in front of you; the North is behind you...the East to the left and the West to the right" provides spatial orientation essential for accurate horoscope calculation. The notation that this "is the contrary of what is noted on geographic maps" shows attention to practical details that affect real-world application.
**The Hemispheric Adaptation**: The careful note that "for us in the SOUTHERN Hemisphere, the opposite happens" when looking at the Sun at midday demonstrates how universal principles require local adaptation without losing essential accuracy. During periods when global cooperation becomes necessary, understanding how universal laws operate through particular geographic conditions becomes essential for international coordination.
**The Celestial Navigation Metaphor**: The comparison between terrestrial road markers and celestial degrees divided into "6 zones of 30 degrees each" providing "180º for the visible half and 180º for the other half" creates accessible understanding of how celestial space can be measured and navigated. The automobile versus cart analogy for different planetary velocities makes complex astronomical concepts comprehensible to non-specialists.
**The Earth's Daily Rotation**: The explanation that "the Earth makes a complete turn around the sky in 24 hours, rotating on itself" and "travels...ONE division every TWO HOURS" while maintaining "the language of appearances, useful for the comprehension of Astrology" demonstrates how traditional geocentric perspective serves practical astrological application despite heliocentric astronomical reality. This prevents both scientific fundamentalism and astrological literalism.
**The House System Foundation**: The systematic establishment that "each House of 30 degrees represents a month of the year" beginning "in March with the Sign of Aries" provides practical methodology for organizing temporal influences. The acknowledgment of "confusion between Houses and Signs to facilitate the study of the static elements of Astrology" followed by promise of later precision shows pedagogical wisdom in proceeding from simple to complex understanding.
**The Seasonal Correspondence**: The detailed organization of seasonal houses—spring (1,2,3), summer (4,5,6), autumn (7,8,9), winter (10,11,12)—provides natural foundation for understanding how cosmic influences operate through terrestrial cycles. The recognition that seasons reverse in different hemispheres demonstrates attention to geographic reality rather than abstract theoretical systems.
The recognition that seasons reverse in different hemispheres demonstrates attention to geographic reality rather than abstract theoretical systems.
**The Precession Recognition**: The sophisticated note that "the Sun no longer enters...in the zodiacal sign of Aries on March 21" due to "precession of the equinoxes" and now enters "from April 15 to May 15" with full cycle every "26,000 years" demonstrates advanced astronomical knowledge while maintaining practical astrological application. This prevents both astronomical ignorance and astrological rigidity.
**The Memorization Requirement**: The insistence that "it is indispensable, for the serious investigator, to learn by heart the names of the Twelve Signs of the Zodiac and the number of the Houses" establishes the foundation necessary for practical application. During periods when external references may be unavailable, having essential knowledge memorized becomes crucial for continued practice.
**The Ascending-Descending Division**: The systematic organization of houses into ascending (1-6) and descending (7-12) halves provides understanding of how celestial influences operate through natural cycles of manifestation and dissolution. The correspondence with zodiacal signs demonstrates how different systems of astrological organization reinforce rather than contradict each other.
**The Angular-Succedent-Cadent Classification**: The detailed explanation of how Cardinal Point houses (1,4,7,10) create "ANGULAR HOUSES," followed by "Succedent or Fixed Houses" (2,5,8,11), then "Cadent, Mutable or Common Houses" (3,6,9,12) provides complete system for understanding how astrological influences vary in intensity and quality according to their relationship to natural reference points.
**The Dante Integration**: The inclusion of Dante's profound verse about how "Heaven initiates our movements...Light is given to you for good and evil and free will which struggles in the first battles with heaven endures then conquers all if well nourished" provides poetic synthesis of the relationship between cosmic influences and human freedom. The recognition that properly nourished free will can "conquer all" prevents fatalistic interpretation while acknowledging genuine cosmic influences.

## Progressive Course in Asana Yoga (Continuation)
### Nine-Fold Classification System and Philosophical Foundations
**Teaching of Asuri Kapila, S.I.**
The science that studies the doctrine of "Yoga," is called yoguistic science; the man who obtains visible and palpable results and who succeeds in assimilating in his heart and mind such science, is called "yogi."
The hermetic schools that teach in India the yoguistic sciences, are called Yogacharyas schools, which translated from Sanskrit means mystical schools, directed by an Acharyai. There are taught and practiced the [translate:Yogansas] which are divided into eight stages: 1st [translate:ASANA] – 2nd [translate:YAMA] – 3rd [translate:NIYAMA] – 4th [translate:PRANAYAMA] – 5th [translate:DHARANA] – 6th [translate:PRATYAHARA] – 7th [translate:DHYANA] – 8th [translate:SAMADHI].
## THE FOUR DEGREES OF YOGIS
There exist yogis of 4 degrees, which are: 1st: [translate:PRATHAMKALPIKA] – 2nd: [translate:MADHUPRATIKA] he who has reached the state of [translate:RITAMHARAPRAJNA] or the power called [translate:Madhupratika], that is, the conquest of the [translate:Siddhis]. – 3rd: [translate:BHUTENDRIYAJAY] he who has obtained power and dominion over the senses and all the elements of nature, etc. 4th: [translate:ATIKRANTABHAVANIYA], he who has reached [translate:KAIVALYA] that is, unity, isolation, liberation, emancipation and final bliss, which is the total result of yoguistic science.
There exist different hermetic Yogacharyas schools, as well as different Gurus who teach different Yogas. These latter are divided into distinct stages, beginning from the path of realization purely material until reaching the mystical, philosophical, contemplative path and the so-called liberation path. Naturally, each one of these paths requires a life to practice it, know its philosophy and acquire the practice.
## THE NINE-FOLD YOGA CLASSIFICATION
Yoga is subdivided into a multitude of yogas. I will name the most known and also some of the unknown ones. The first stage is the so-called [translate:Asana-Yoga] which treats of corporeal attitudes and postures prescribed for meditation, being the word [translate:Asana], in Sanskrit, the equivalent to "posture" in our language.
The second stage is [translate:Hatha-Yoga] which treats of the interior form of Yoga. He who practices this yoga utilizes physical means for his own spiritual development. It is the opposite to [translate:RAJA-YOGA]. The finality that [translate:Hatha Yoga] proposes is the same as [translate:Raja Yoga], but the methods differ between themselves, due to the difference that exists between one and the other of those two yogas, and which is the following: the partisan of the first believes that Mind ([translate:Chitta]) obeys [translate:PRANA], while the partisan of the second ([translate:Raja-Yogi]) believes that [translate:Prana] obeys [translate:Vritti], being the last opinion the exact one. Those who dedicate themselves to [translate:Hatha Yoga] are called [translate:Hatha-Yogis], some of them dedicating themselves, exclusively, to practicing without any spiritual aim, having as unique objective the embellishment and perfection of the body, with the acquisition of some physical powers of inferior order.
The third stage is known by the name of [translate:Bhakti-Yoga]. [translate:Bhakti] corresponds to devotion; it is the path of Love and Devotion. This is a purely mystical stage of Yoga. He who practices it is known by the name of [translate:Bhakti-Yogi].
The fourth stage corresponds to [translate:Jnana-Yoga]. [translate:Jnana] corresponds to "knowledge"; it is the path of Wisdom. This Yoga seeks to obtain complete dominion of the senses of the mind, making this latter arrive at concentrating itself in the contemplation of the Divine Spirit to receive from It the Illumination. He who practices this Yoga is called a [translate:Jnani-Yogi].
The fifth stage is known by the name of [translate:Raja-Yoga], which corresponds to the system of development of psychic and spiritual powers, and has as end the union of one's own superior I with the Universal I. It is the stage that is dedicated to the regulation and concentration of thought; it is a system of occult education that arrives at giving dominion both of the internal and of the external. He who practices it is called [translate:Raja-Yogi].
The sixth stage is called [translate:Mantra-Yoga], which is a class of Yoga that consists in reciting and knowing certain formulas spoken with attentive meditation upon their meaning. [translate:Mantra] means "enchantment," mystical formula, spell, sentence, measured word. He who practices it is a [translate:Mantra-Yogi].
The seventh stage is known as [translate:Kundalini-Yoga]. [translate:Kundalini] means "serpentine," "coiled," and is the power of life, one of the forces of Nature, the power that engenders a mysterious and powerful light that predisposes to spiritual and clairvoyant development. The serpentine or spiral power is a divine power that is latent in all men; suffice it to say that electricity and magnetism are no more than manifestations of the same. Once developed, this power can create and also kill. He who practices this yoga is known as [translate:Kundalini-Yogi].
The eighth stage is known as [translate:Laya-Yoga], which is a species of Yoga that consists in contemplating, with special attention, some exterior object, or rather, the internal sound that is perceived closing the eyes. It is also the practice in which the mind can pass from one state of consciousness to another called "unconscious."
The ninth stage is known under the name of [translate:Tattva-Yoga] (different principles of Nature in their occult meaning), in which the yogi identifies himself with these principles and handles them at his will, being able to make true prodigies, like levitation, spontaneous combustion and all the other phenomena known within occultism.
## THE COURSE FOCUS: ASANA YOGA
Since we have spoken, very superficially, about all the Yogas to give a general idea of them, we will begin primarily with the course that will be called "Progressive Course of Asana Yoga."
## THE ULTIMATE GOAL: INNER SELF-REALIZATION
## THE COURSE FOCUS: ASANA YOGA
Since we have spoken, very superficially, about all the Yogas to give a general idea of them, we will begin primarily with the course that will be called "Progressive Course of Asana Yoga."
## THE ULTIMATE GOAL: INNER SELF-REALIZATION
The finality of life is the realization of the internal I. All the systems of philosophy of India have a single finality: the liberation of the soul through perfection.
Each man seeks happiness, flees from pain; but no one teaches another how he should do it. It depends on each one of us to find happiness, because the true nature of man seeks zealously its conquest, but the satisfaction of desires cannot bring true peace to the mind, although the nerves and senses be gratified for an instant.
Just as grease poured over fire stimulates it more, but for an instant only, so also happiness intensifies desire and makes the mind still more restless and bitter.
No one can expect true and continuous happiness from objects that are conditioned in time; all are perishable. The happiness that is obtained from sensual objects is deceptive and transitory. For a philosopher, it is not happiness; it is like treating the skin when one feels an itch, without investigating the true cause of that itch. Sensual happiness is always followed in such form by severe penalties, fear, sins, jealousy, pain, sadness, restlessness and all kinds of miseries and calamities, that it well merits the name of illusion.
## THE FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS
In the intervals of materialistic mundane activities, there sometimes comes a moment of tranquility and peace in which this question appears in our mind: "Who am I?" "Why am I here?" "What is life and the universe?"
The serious seeker begins to meditate and inquire to obtain an answer to such profound problems; he begins to seek the company of wise persons, studies books, meditates, reflects, purifies his mind and sometimes obtains, alone, the highest knowledge of his internal I. In contrast, the man whose mind is constantly saturated with mundane passions, fails in everything, and is irresistibly dragged toward those tumultuous currents of death and rebirths.
## THE DIFFICULT BUT POSSIBLE PATH
The path is hard, dangerous, full of thorns, but possible to realize. Those who arrive at realizing it obtain the divine grace of the supreme I. You will have the entire spiritual world behind you, which will protect and guide you constantly toward it.
That path will lead directly toward the regions of infinite happiness, supreme peace and eternal life, where fear and sadness do not enter, where all distinctions of castes, colors and beliefs disappear... because you will find yourselves in Truth itself, where divine Love vibrates constantly and where man will find the satisfaction of his elevated desires and of highest justice.
## THE FOUR COMPLEMENTARY PATHS
because you will find yourselves in Truth itself, where divine Love vibrates constantly and where man will find the satisfaction of his elevated desires and of highest justice.
## THE FOUR COMPLEMENTARY PATHS
The four great and principal paths called: [translate:Karma, Bhakti, Raja and Jnana-Yoga] are not antagonistic, but complementary. And the different methods of relaxation, cannot but be in harmony with them, because the finality of religion is also to educate and develop in man his heart, his intellect, his head and his hands. Thus only will he obtain perfection. The development of one side alone serves for nothing. [translate:Karma-Yoga] removes evil, purifies the mind and develops action. [translate:Bhakti-Yoga] destroys hatred and develops the heart. [translate:Raja-Yoga] harmonizes the mind and makes it capable of concentrating on a single point. [translate:Jnana-Yoga] removes wickedness and ignorance, develops mental strength and leads to self-knowledge. [translate:Asana-Yoga] leads to health and longevity; when it is well practiced, and methodically, its practice regularizes the action of the heart, lungs and brain. It also promotes perfect blood circulation and good digestion of foods; the liver, kidneys and other internal organs will work efficiently; it removes, in a word, all diseases.
## THE COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM
This progressive course of [translate:Asana-Yoga] will treat of ninety postures of the body with the important system of [translate:Bandhas] (that is, special ties and bindings of the physical body); of [translate:Mudras] (special attitudes and contortions), of [translate:Pranayamas] (special respirations) which, all together, forms and goes hand in hand with [translate:Asana-Yoga].

## MARTINIST TEACHING
"The knowledge of the Personality of the Human Being gives us the reason for being of Fraternity and puts in evidence that individual rehabilitation cannot be fulfilled without being accompanied by the rehabilitation of the Collectivity...
The rehabilitation of the Collectivity through renunciation and, if necessary through the sacrifice of intellectual Individuality, is the base of the mysterious teachings of Martinism."

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF COMPREHENSIVE YOGA INSTRUCTION FOR WARTIME SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
This systematic introduction to the nine-fold yoga classification appears in June 1942 when comprehensive understanding of spiritual development paths becomes essential for conscious navigation of unprecedented global crisis. The detailed presentation provides complete educational framework for individual transformation serving collective healing rather than merely personal spiritual advancement.
**The Scientific Approach**: The opening definition that "yoguistic science" requires "visible and palpable results" while assimilating knowledge "in his heart and mind" establishes the principle that authentic spiritual practice must demonstrate practical effectiveness rather than remaining merely theoretical. During wartime, when spiritual claims often serve psychological escape, this empirical standard provides reliable criteria for distinguishing genuine from false spiritual approaches.
**The Educational Infrastructure**: The description of "Yogacharyas schools...mystical schools, directed by an Acharyai" where systematic "eight stages" are "taught and practiced" demonstrates how authentic spiritual transmission requires institutional support rather than depending entirely on individual effort. During periods when conventional educational institutions may become inadequate or unavailable, understanding traditional spiritual educational models becomes essential for maintaining cultural continuity.
**The Four Degrees Recognition**: The systematic classification of yogis from [translate:PRATHAMKALPIKA] (preliminary student) through [translate:ATIKRANTABHAVANIYA] (final liberation) provides realistic understanding of spiritual development stages that prevents both premature spiritual claims and discouragement about slow progress. The specific powers and capacities associated with each level enable accurate assessment of authentic spiritual achievement.
The specific powers and capacities associated with each level enable accurate assessment of authentic spiritual achievement.
**The Life-Long Commitment**: The recognition that "each one of these paths requires a life to practice it, know its philosophy and acquire the practice" establishes realistic expectations for serious spiritual development. During crisis periods when people often seek rapid spiritual solutions, this long-term perspective provides foundation for sustained practice rather than superficial spiritual experimentation.
**The Nine-Fold Classification System**: The comprehensive presentation of [translate:Asana-Yoga] (postures), [translate:Hatha-Yoga] (physical methods), [translate:Bhakti-Yoga] (devotion), [translate:Jnana-Yoga] (knowledge), [translate:Raja-Yoga] (royal/mental), [translate:Mantra-Yoga] (sacred formulas), [translate:Kundalini-Yoga] (serpent power), [translate:Laya-Yoga] (absorption), and [translate:Tattva-Yoga] (elemental principles) demonstrates how authentic spiritual traditions provide multiple approaches adapted to different temperaments and developmental needs rather than imposing uniform methods.
**The Mind-Prana Relationship**: The crucial technical distinction that [translate:Hatha-Yoga] practitioners believe "Mind obeys Prana" while [translate:Raja-Yoga] practitioners believe "Prana obeys Vritti, being the last opinion the exact one" provides fundamental understanding of the relationship between consciousness and vital energy. This prevents both materialistic reduction and spiritual bypassing by establishing proper hierarchy between mental and physical approaches.
**The Devotional Integration**: The presentation of [translate:Bhakti-Yoga] as "the path of Love and Devotion...purely mystical stage" demonstrates how emotional development serves rather than opposes intellectual and physical spiritual work. During periods when extreme circumstances create emotional trauma, understanding how devotional practice can transform rather than suppress emotional energy becomes essential for psychological healing.
**The Knowledge Path Distinction**: The explanation that [translate:Jnana-Yoga] "seeks to obtain complete dominion of the senses of the mind, making this latter arrive at concentrating itself in the contemplation of the Divine Spirit to receive from It the Illumination" demonstrates how intellectual spiritual development transcends mere accumulation of information through direct reception of transcendent understanding. During wartime, when conventional educational systems may provide inadequate guidance for existential challenges, understanding how to receive wisdom through contemplative practice becomes crucial.
During wartime, when conventional educational systems may provide inadequate guidance for existential challenges, understanding how to receive wisdom through contemplative practice becomes crucial.
**The Royal Yoga Comprehensiveness**: The description of [translate:Raja-Yoga] as "the system of development of psychic and spiritual powers...dedicated to the regulation and concentration of thought...occult education that arrives at giving dominion both of the internal and of the external" provides complete methodology for conscious spiritual development that integrates rather than fragments different aspects of human capability.
**The Mantra Technology**: The explanation that [translate:Mantra-Yoga] consists in "reciting and knowing certain formulas spoken with attentive meditation upon their meaning" where [translate:Mantra] means "enchantment, mystical formula, spell, sentence, measured word" demonstrates how sound and meaning can be systematically used for spiritual transformation. During periods when ordinary language becomes corrupted by propaganda or lies, maintaining access to sacred language becomes essential for preserving authentic communication.
**The Serpent Power Recognition**: The sophisticated understanding of [translate:Kundalini-Yoga] as working with power that "is latent in all men" and "electricity and magnetism are no more than manifestations of the same" while recognizing that "once developed, this power can create and also kill" provides realistic appreciation of advanced spiritual energies without either denial or reckless experimentation.
**The Absorption Practice**: The description of [translate:Laya-Yoga] as contemplating "some exterior object, or rather, the internal sound that is perceived closing the eyes" and enabling the mind to "pass from one state of consciousness to another called 'unconscious'" provides specific technique for transcending ordinary consciousness limitations through systematic absorption practice.
**The Elemental Mastery**: The presentation of [translate:Tattva-Yoga] as enabling the yogi to identify "with these principles and handle them at his will, being able to make true prodigies, like levitation, spontaneous combustion" demonstrates ultimate integration of spiritual development with mastery over natural forces rather than opposition to material world.
**The Existential Questions Framework**: The systematic presentation of fundamental questions "Who am I?" "Why am I here?" "What is life and the universe?" provides philosophical foundation that acknowledges rather than avoids the deepest human concerns. During crisis periods when conventional answers prove inadequate, returning to fundamental questions enables authentic rather than superficial spiritual seeking.
During crisis periods when conventional answers prove inadequate, returning to fundamental questions enables authentic rather than superficial spiritual seeking.
**The Happiness Analysis**: The profound psychological insight that "happiness intensifies desire and makes the mind still more restless and bitter" like "grease poured over fire stimulates it more, but for an instant only" provides understanding that prevents spiritual materialism while maintaining motivation for authentic spiritual practice. The recognition that sensual happiness brings "severe penalties, fear, sins, jealousy, pain, sadness, restlessness" enables discrimination between authentic and false spiritual promises.
**The Four-Fold Integration**: The systematic explanation that the "four great and principal paths...are not antagonistic, but complementary" because "the finality of religion is also to educate and develop in man his heart, his intellect, his head and his hands" provides complete educational vision that prevents sectarian division while maintaining methodological precision. The specific benefits—[translate:Karma-Yoga] "removes evil," [translate:Bhakti-Yoga] "destroys hatred," [translate:Raja-Yoga] "harmonizes the mind," [translate:Jnana-Yoga] "removes wickedness and ignorance," [translate:Asana-Yoga] promotes "health and longevity"—demonstrate how different approaches serve different aspects of human development.
**The Martinist Connection**: The concluding quotation about "individual rehabilitation cannot be fulfilled without being accompanied by the rehabilitation of the Collectivity" through "renunciation and, if necessary through the sacrifice of intellectual Individuality" provides understanding that authentic spiritual development serves rather than competes with social responsibility. During wartime, when individual and collective concerns often appear to conflict, this integration prevents both selfish spirituality and spiritual materialism.

## Chromotherapy in Medicine
### Scientific Color Healing Applications
**By Dr. Orestes Bernardi**
For years, some doctors, after the first scientific investigations initiated by Dr. Edwin Babbitt, have been seriously studying the therapeutic influence of colors on the sick in general and on those of the nervous system in particular. These experiences have confirmed what ancient and modern esotericists, occidentals and orientals, have always been affirming, and it is with particular satisfaction that we confirm that one more parcel of the old esoteric doctrine has begun to enter the realm of modern science.
There is no doubt that colors exercise a psychic influence, determining special mental and emotional states and, vice-versa, mental and emotional states determine corresponding colors in the human aura.
## PSYCHOLOGICAL COLOR EFFECTS
There is no doubt that colors exercise a psychic influence, determining special mental and emotional states and, vice-versa, mental and emotional states determine corresponding colors in the human aura.
## PSYCHOLOGICAL COLOR EFFECTS
Widely known, despite the unknown physiogenesis, are the cases in which the continued sight of the same color awakens determined mental and emotional states. Thus, for example, red awakens thoughts and emotions of rage or at least of anger; green, a sensation of calm and well-being; white and celestial blue, a religious feeling; violet, a devotional state; black, sadness and funereal thoughts; gray, melancholy and psychic depression, etc...
On the other hand, clairvoyants can verify variable colors in the human aura according to psychic and emotional states. Thus for example, red is visible in passionate emotional states; green, when there are feelings of sympathy and love for nature; white, in cases of spiritual thoughts; yellow, in states of mental elaboration, etc...
## FROM GENERAL INFLUENCES TO CHROMOTHERAPY
If from these colorific influences of general character one passes to chromotherapy, that is, to the use of determined fundamental colors and of all the infinite range or scale of their tonalities that correspond to determined mental and emotional states, it is verified that it is possible, in case of illness, that provokes electro-magnetic disharmonies in the tissues, to act upon these restoring to them the harmonic and dynamic equilibrium. And it is logical to think that the therapeutic result must be constant and proportional to the harmony between the colorific tonality as therapeutic cause, and the physical or psychic disequilibrium as effect of physiological disharmony.
## DR. BABBITT'S SCIENTIFIC CONCLUSIONS
The conclusions that Dr. Babbitt reached after his numerous experiences, can be summarized employing his same words, as follows:
"The center of electrical action that calms the nerves is in the violet color; that of the action that calms the circulatory apparatus, in blue; that of luminosity, in yellow and that of heat, in red.
"This is not an imaginary division of properties, but very real, since red contains a thermal principle and is the color of fire, just as blue and violet contain an electrical principle.
"We have, then, many modalities of action or aromatic influence in gradations of heat, light and electricity."
## PRACTICAL APPLICATION FACTORS
We do not intend to expound here, in this brief article that wants to have only a practical effect, the theories that investigators of the most interesting problem have formulated regarding the explanation of the chromatic therapeutic effect; we want to give, uniquely, the results obtained by many esotericists so that they may be experimentally studied and verified.
First of all it is necessary to clarify that the therapeutic effects that can be obtained, depend on:
1) The therapist.
2) The exact tonality of the color.
First of all it is necessary to clarify that the therapeutic effects that can be obtained, depend on:
1) The therapist.
2) The exact tonality of the color.
Regarding the first, in the case that color did not influence by itself but rather through the mental projection of the operator, it is clear that the more powerful that projection is, and consequently, capable the therapist is of concentrating and projecting, the more efficacious will be the influence of color on the patient.
Regarding the exact tonality of the color, very difficult it results for the operator to establish it in a determined pathological state, due to the difficult evaluation of that state and, on the other hand, due to the difficulty of being able to project colors that have the same vibrations as the auric colors, given that, generally, it is material colors that are projected.
## OPTIMAL CONDITIONS FOR CHROMOTHERAPY
For the operator to be able to project colors that are the closest in vibratory tonality to the auric ones, it is necessary that he have personal experience in that respect, in addition to projecting them, as we have said, with the greatest possible force.
If the ideal conditions of the experiment were all realized, it is clear that the therapeutic effect would be more rapid and more efficacious; but in the frequent impossibility of being able to reunite all the factors that favor the experience, those who wish to engage in such experiences can adhere to the following conditions:
1) Have in sight discs of cardboard or of any other material, upon which different colors are painted. This facilitates for the operator the mental concentration of the color that one wants to project upon the sick person, who can be present or at variable distance.
2) Do concentration exercises of the mind, whose practices are described in almost all the treatises on human magnetism, to favor the concentration and projection of color.
3) Project the color to the aura of the sick person, so that from his aura it radiates to his mind and thus determine the state that is desired, whose benefic and harmonizing effect will not delay in making itself felt in his organism.
## THERAPEUTIC COLOR CLASSIFICATION
The colors that must be projected in the infinite illnesses, are, classifying them, not by their causes, but by their effects, the following:
### Pathological states whose effects disharmonize the equilibrium of the nervous system:
**EXCITATION STATES.** Sedative colors: all shades of violet.
**DEPRESSION STATES.** Exciting colors: Vivid Red.
**ATONIC STATES.** Tonifying colors: Grass Green.
**HYPO-ATONIC STATES.** Stimulating colors: Yellow and Orange.
### Pathological states whose effects disharmonize the equilibrium of the circulatory system:
**EXCITATION STATES.** Sedative colors: various tonalities of Turquoise Blue
**DEPRESSION STATES.** Exciting colors: Vivid Red.
**ATONIC STATES.** Tonifying colors: Grass Green.
### Pathological states whose effects disharmonize the equilibrium of the circulatory system:
**EXCITATION STATES.** Sedative colors: various tonalities of Turquoise Blue
**DEPRESSION STATES.** Exciting colors: Vivid Red.
**ATONIC STATES.** Tonifying colors: Grass Green.
**HYPO-ATONIC STATES.** Stimulating colors: Light Yellow.
**Every and any projection must terminate with the projection of SNOWY WHITE color.**
## SPECIFIC DISEASE APPLICATIONS
Investigators who have experimented much with chromotherapic influences, have obtained clear and constant effects in the following illnesses with the following colors:
**General weakness (constitutional, infectious, etc.)**
- 1st - Vivid red.
- 2nd - Light yellow.
- 3rd - Orange.
**Febrile states** ........................... Tonalities of blue.
**Flu and complications** .................. Vivid red.
**Bradycardia** .............................. Vivid red.
**Tachycardia** .............................. Violet.
**Hypertension** ............................. Tonalities of blue.
**Inflammations** ............................ Tonalities of blue.
**Asphyxia** ................................. Tonalities of blue.
**Neurasthenia** ............................. Violet.
I make vows for the sincere and fertile experiences that this data can stimulate in all investigators.

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF SCIENTIFIC CHROMOTHERAPY FOR WARTIME HEALING
This systematic presentation of scientific color therapy appears in June 1942 when traditional healing methods become essential due to limited access to conventional medical resources during wartime. The rigorous scientific approach demonstrates how esoteric knowledge can be validated and applied through empirical investigation rather than mere speculation or superstition.
**The Scientific Foundation**: The opening reference to "Dr. Edwin Babbitt" and "first scientific investigations" followed by confirmation from "many doctors" who have been "seriously studying the therapeutic influence of colors" establishes that chromotherapy represents legitimate medical research rather than unsubstantiated alternative practice. During wartime, when medical resources become scarce, having scientifically validated alternative therapeutic methods proves invaluable.
**The East-West Integration**: The explicit recognition that these experiences "have confirmed what ancient and modern esotericists, occidentals and orientals, have always been affirming" demonstrates how scientific investigation validates rather than contradicts traditional esoteric knowledge. The "particular satisfaction" that "one more parcel of the old esoteric doctrine has begun to enter the realm of modern science" provides model for integrating traditional wisdom with contemporary methodology.
The "particular satisfaction" that "one more parcel of the old esoteric doctrine has begun to enter the realm of modern science" provides model for integrating traditional wisdom with contemporary methodology.
**The Psycho-Physical Correspondence**: The fundamental recognition that "colors exercise a psychic influence, determining special mental and emotional states and, vice-versa, mental and emotional states determine corresponding colors in the human aura" establishes bidirectional causation between consciousness and energy rather than reducing either to mere mechanical effects. This prevents both materialistic reductionism and spiritual bypassing while maintaining recognition of psychosomatic integration.
**The Specific Color Psychology**: The systematic listing of red awakening "thoughts and emotions of rage," green producing "calm and well-being," white and celestial blue creating "religious feeling," violet inducing "devotional state," black causing "sadness and funereal thoughts," and gray generating "melancholy and psychic depression" provides practical guidance for environmental design and therapeutic application during periods when psychological support becomes crucial.
**The Clairvoyant Verification**: The corroborating evidence that "clairvoyants can verify variable colors in the human aura according to psychic and emotional states" with specific correspondences—red for "passionate emotional states," green for "sympathy and love for nature," white for "spiritual thoughts," yellow for "mental elaboration"—provides independent confirmation of color-consciousness relationships through expanded sensory perception rather than merely theoretical speculation.
**The Disease Mechanism Understanding**: The sophisticated analysis that illness "provokes electro-magnetic disharmonies in the tissues" which can be corrected by restoring "harmonic and dynamic equilibrium" through appropriate colors demonstrates understanding that healing operates through energetic rebalancing rather than merely symptomatic suppression. During wartime, when stress-related illness becomes widespread, understanding energetic healing mechanisms enables more effective treatment approaches.
**Dr. Babbitt's Empirical Findings**: The detailed scientific conclusions that "the center of electrical action that calms the nerves is in the violet color; that of the action that calms the circulatory apparatus, in blue; that of luminosity, in yellow and that of heat, in red" provides specific physiological understanding based on systematic observation rather than theoretical assumption. The recognition that "red contains a thermal principle...just as blue and violet contain an electrical principle" demonstrates how traditional color correspondences reflect measurable physical properties.
The recognition that "red contains a thermal principle...just as blue and violet contain an electrical principle" demonstrates how traditional color correspondences reflect measurable physical properties.
**The Therapeutic Variables Recognition**: The honest acknowledgment that therapeutic effectiveness depends on both "the therapist" and "the exact tonality of the color" prevents oversimplified application while maintaining recognition of genuine healing potential. The understanding that operator mental projection affects results demonstrates how healing involves consciousness as well as technique, preventing mechanistic approaches while maintaining scientific rigor.
**The Practical Implementation Guidelines**: The systematic recommendations for using "discs of cardboard...upon which different colors are painted," practicing "concentration exercises of the mind," and projecting "the color to the aura of the sick person" provide accessible methodology that can be implemented without expensive equipment or extensive training. During wartime, when resources become limited, having simple but effective healing techniques becomes especially valuable.
**The Nervous System Applications**: The detailed classification of nervous system disorders into "excitation states" (treated with violet), "depression states" (treated with vivid red), "atonic states" (treated with grass green), and "hypo-atonic states" (treated with yellow and orange) provides systematic diagnostic and therapeutic framework that can be applied regardless of conventional medical availability.
**The Circulatory System Protocol**: The parallel classification of circulatory disorders with corresponding color treatments—using "various tonalities of turquoise blue" for excitation, "vivid red" for depression, "grass green" for atonic states, and "light yellow" for hypo-atonic conditions—demonstrates how chromotherapy can address cardiovascular problems that become more prevalent during high-stress wartime conditions.
**The Universal White Conclusion**: The instruction that "every and any projection must terminate with the projection of snowy white color" provides essential completion technique that ensures energetic balance and prevents overstimulation from specific color applications. This safety principle demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how healing energies require proper integration rather than merely targeted application.
**The Specific Disease Protocols**: The detailed listing of treatments for "general weakness," "febrile states," "flu and complications," "bradycardia," "tachycardia," "hypertension," "inflammations," "asphyxia," and "neurasthenia" with specific color prescriptions provides practical therapeutic guidance for common wartime health problems. The multiple color options for general weakness (vivid red, light yellow, orange) demonstrate understanding that complex conditions may require varied approaches.
The multiple color options for general weakness (vivid red, light yellow, orange) demonstrate understanding that complex conditions may require varied approaches.
**The Research Encouragement**: The concluding statement making "vows for the sincere and fertile experiences that this data can stimulate in all investigators" demonstrates scientific rather than dogmatic attitude that encourages further research and validation rather than demanding blind acceptance of presented methods.

## Essay on the Relations Between Celestial Influences and the Life of Metals, Vegetables and Human Beings
### Verified Predictions and Universal Correspondences (Conclusion)
**By Leo de Mascheville**
Before continuing this article I have to summarize, rapidly, what in these first fifteen days of May (date in which I write this) has already been produced of that which was contained in the prevision published in the previous number of "La Iniciación," regarding the Conjunction of Saturn and Uranus at the end of the Sign of Taurus.
## VERIFICATION OF PREVIOUS PREDICTIONS
**Earthquakes**: in northern Africa, Spain or Portugal. There was, really, a quite important earthquake in Lisbon.
**Explosions in chemical product factories.** There were several. The most important was in Belgium, in which the loss of more than 200 human lives and more than a thousand wounded was lamented, precisely by explosion in a chemical products factory. In Montevideo, there was also an explosion of grave consequences in a Laboratory.
**Storm in the United States.** (Influences over the first degrees of the sign of Gemini) There was a cyclone in which, unfortunately, the number of victims and material damages was great.
**Beginning of chemical warfare.** The press in general has divulged the mutual threats that peoples at war make to each other of passing to the use of chemical weapons, precisely in the epoch in which we indicated it.
**Increase of cruelty of hostilities.** There has been seen the beginning of the German offensive in Russia and Japanese attacks on new zones of the Orient.
**Changes in the attitude of the oppressed.** There have become more consistent and frequent the news of rebellions and protest attacks in almost all the peoples subjected to foreign domination.
**Personal crimes in general.** The newspapers have notified great quantity of facts of this species, and if readers observe, they will notice that the greater part has been by wounds in the region of the neck and chest (regions of the human body ruled by Taurus and Gemini).
## THE UNDENIABLE CORRESPONDENCES
It seems that it is too great the number of "coincidences" not to call powerfully the attention of the impartial reader, upon the relation between the celestial influences commented upon and the registered facts that, as they will observe, took place upon:
**The body of the Earth**: earthquakes and cyclones.
**Material things**: factories and gases.
**Human bodies and their passions**: crimes, wars, etc.
It seems to me, then, useless to insist on the polemic, since, for centuries, such proofs accumulate daily. Let those who prefer the comfortable, but not always intelligent, skepticism, continue cultivating it; and for those others who, as the cover of the Magazine says, want finally to KNOW, I will publish, periodically, small lists of provisions of all species, so that they can realize their reality and especially that THE CELESTIAL INFLUENCES determine such or such effects.
## PRACTICAL ASTROLOGICAL COMPLEMENT
It will thus be a practical complement to the Course of Astrology that collaborator Surya gives us in "La Iniciación"; and I will also have the pleasure of answering, in the very Magazine, to consultations of general character, that is of interest for all, that readers want to make in the astrological terrain.
To finish I will indicate for observation of readers, three interesting dates:
**May 15**: quite disagreeable day in all senses.
**May 20**: very well aspected day; should bring good things.
**May 25**: quite good day, but of strong influence. Be careful.
We will comment, opportunely, on the facts that have characterized those influences and their relations with celestial aspects.

## PEQUENEZES (LITTLE THINGS)
### A Poem of Spiritual Appreciation
**By Martha S.M.**
Little joys that sweeten my life,
Little lights, that illuminate my night,
Small flowers that gladden my garden,
Tiny drops that quench my thirst...
If I scorned you because you are small,
Perhaps I would remain without other consolation;
Because great joys, refulgent lights,
Profusion of flowers and torrents of water,
Do not always offer us their precious gifts,
Do not always bathe us with their clarity.
I think that in the world through which we pass,
Even the greatest, even the most sublime,
THE ALL is formed
Of small things...

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF VERIFIED CELESTIAL PREDICTIONS FOR WARTIME SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE
This remarkable demonstration of astrological accuracy appears in June 1942 when humanity desperately needs evidence that spiritual wisdom provides superior guidance compared to purely material analysis of current events. The systematic verification of specific predictions demonstrates how cosmic forces operate through natural rather than supernatural principles while providing practical methodology for prophetic discernment.
The systematic verification of specific predictions demonstrates how cosmic forces operate through natural rather than supernatural principles while providing practical methodology for prophetic discernment.
**The Empirical Verification Approach**: The systematic listing of predicted events followed by their actual occurrence—"Earthquakes: in northern Africa, Spain or Portugal. There was, really, a quite important earthquake in Lisbon"—establishes scientific rather than mystical credibility for astrological prediction. During wartime, when conventional intelligence and planning systems often prove inadequate, demonstrating that spiritual wisdom offers more accurate forecasting becomes essential for strategic decision-making.
**The Chemical Warfare Prophecy**: The fulfilled prediction of "Beginning of chemical warfare" with verification that "the press in general has divulged the mutual threats that peoples at war make to each other of passing to the use of chemical weapons, precisely in the epoch in which we indicated it" demonstrates how astrological analysis can anticipate military developments that escape conventional military intelligence. This provides evidence that cosmic forces influence human decisions rather than operating independently of human choice.
**The Belgian Factory Explosion**: The specific fulfillment of predicted "Explosions in chemical product factories" through the Belgian disaster with "more than 200 human lives and more than a thousand wounded...precisely by explosion in a chemical products factory" provides concrete evidence that astrological influences manifest through specific events rather than general tendencies. The additional Montevideo laboratory explosion shows how cosmic influences operate globally rather than merely locally.
**The Natural Disaster Accuracy**: The verification of predicted storm in the United States through an actual "cyclone in which, unfortunately, the number of victims and material damages was great" demonstrates how astrological prediction encompasses natural as well as human events. During wartime, when natural disasters compound human-created destruction, understanding cosmic timing for natural catastrophes becomes crucial for emergency preparedness.
**The Military Escalation Foresight**: The fulfilled prediction of "Increase of cruelty of hostilities" through "the beginning of the German offensive in Russia and Japanese attacks on new zones of the Orient" demonstrates how astrological analysis can anticipate military developments weeks or months in advance. This provides strategic advantage for those able to interpret cosmic influences on human collective behavior.
This provides strategic advantage for those able to interpret cosmic influences on human collective behavior.
**The Resistance Movement Prophecy**: The accurate prediction of "Changes in the attitude of the oppressed" verified through "more consistent and frequent...news of rebellions and protest attacks in almost all the peoples subjected to foreign domination" shows how astrological understanding can anticipate social and political developments that affect entire populations. During periods of occupation and oppression, understanding when resistance movements will strengthen becomes essential for coordinated liberation efforts.
**The Anatomical Correspondence**: The remarkable verification that predicted "Personal crimes in general" manifested through wounds "in the region of the neck and chest (regions of the human body ruled by Taurus and Gemini)" demonstrates how astrological influences operate through specific anatomical correspondences rather than general violence. This level of precision provides compelling evidence that cosmic forces affect material manifestation through systematic rather than arbitrary principles.
**The Triple Manifestation Pattern**: The systematic recognition that predicted influences manifested through "The body of the Earth: earthquakes and cyclones," "Material things: factories and gases," and "Human bodies and their passions: crimes, wars" demonstrates how cosmic forces operate simultaneously through geological, material, and psychological levels rather than affecting only one dimension of reality.
**The Statistical Improbability**: The author's cogent observation that "it is too great the number of 'coincidences' not to call powerfully the attention of the impartial reader" provides logical foundation for accepting astrological causation rather than dismissing systematic correlations as mere chance. During periods when skepticism about spiritual wisdom increases due to crisis conditions, having statistically compelling evidence becomes essential for intellectual acceptance.
**The Historical Continuity**: The recognition that "for centuries, such proofs accumulate daily" demonstrates that astrological accuracy represents systematic rather than sporadic phenomenon. This provides confidence that current predictions based on cosmic influences will prove as reliable as historical ones, enabling practical application for future planning despite unprecedented contemporary circumstances.
**The Educational Integration**: The promise to publish "periodically, small lists of provisions of all species" as "practical complement to the Course of Astrology that collaborator Surya gives us" demonstrates how theoretical astrological instruction gains credibility through practical predictive verification. This integration prevents both abstract theorizing and uncritical acceptance of astrological claims.
This integration prevents both abstract theorizing and uncritical acceptance of astrological claims.
**The Specific Date Predictions**: The concrete predictions for "May 15: quite disagreeable day in all senses," "May 20: very well aspected day; should bring good things," and "May 25: quite good day, but of strong influence. Be careful" provide testable short-term forecasts that enable readers to verify astrological accuracy through personal observation. This democratic verification process enables individuals to develop confidence in astrological guidance through direct experience.
**The Consultative Promise**: The offer to answer "consultations of general character, that is of interest for all, that readers want to make in the astrological terrain" demonstrates how astrological wisdom serves practical guidance rather than merely theoretical interest. During wartime, when personal guidance becomes crucial for navigating unprecedented challenges, having access to cosmic counsel provides essential support for individual decision-making.
**The Poetic Integration**: The accompanying poem "Pequenezes" (Little Things) about appreciating "Little joys that sweeten my life, Little lights, that illuminate my night" provides spiritual balance to the serious astrological content. The recognition that "even the greatest, even the most sublime, THE ALL is formed of small things" demonstrates how cosmic forces manifest through humble as well as dramatic events.

## Notes on My Journey to Eastern Countries (Continuation)
### Obligatory Visit to the Temple of Madura
**The Destiny-Guided Pilgrimage**
**By Maya, S.I.**
Upon taking leave, Master Maharishi said to us: "Will you visit the Temple of Madura?" – "No, we answered, since we already lost the opportunity to do so, which was upon our arrival in India." "Pity! So you will not visit it?"...
We departed from Tirumannamalai, by train, at 10 at night on the journey to Madras. Upon acquiring the tickets at that small station the ticket agent informed us that at twelve we should change trains at Virupullan and that at 5 in the morning we would be in Madras.
## THE MYSTERIOUS RAILWAY MISDIRECTION
Upon the train arriving at Virupullan, one of my companions asked a traffic inspector who positioned himself next to our car, which was the train for Madras. Immediately, another of my companions asked him if at that station one changed trains for Madras, to which questions the inspector asked that we follow him to the other platform, where he said the train for Madras was indeed waiting. After having located one of us in one car and my husband and me in another, the train set in motion. At six in the morning we awakened surprised that we had not yet arrived, since in Virupullan we had been informed that at 5 in the morning we would arrive in Madras.
After having located one of us in one car and my husband and me in another, the train set in motion. At six in the morning we awakened surprised that we had not yet arrived, since in Virupullan we had been informed that at 5 in the morning we would arrive in Madras.
We asked several times of different passengers and all told us that we were mistaken about the time, since that train arrived in Madras at eight-thirty. After a moment came our companion, he whom they had located in another car, telling us also that he had been informed that that train arrived in Madras at eight-thirty. We calmed ourselves, since all were in agreement that that train went to Madras, but only that it did not arrive at such an early hour. But, what would be our surprise when, believing that we were already arriving at Madras, the train entered a great station in which an enormous indicator sign said: MADURA.
## THE IMPOSSIBLE MISTAKE
We could not believe what we saw; but it was so. Everyone had been mistaken and the traffic chief above all, since despite two distinct persons having asked him, he had sent us in the contrary direction, as if taking a train in Durazno, believing to arrive in Montevideo we found ourselves in Artigas. We found ourselves 800 kilometers from Madras and had to make another 12 hours of journey to arrive there.
But the strangest thing was that no ticket inspector had come, as occurs continually in India. We got off, complained to the station chief and he was greatly surprised by the error of the traffic inspector, above all for not having asked us for tickets upon locating us in the train. He said he regretted what had happened, but he could not accede to our request to send us back free. Then we complained to the General Traffic Chief, who arrived a while later on a train, a Hindu gentleman who gave us all kinds of apologies making us the three tickets for the night express, adding: "During the day you can take advantage to visit the city and the Temple, and, in the remaining hours, you can rest in a station room that I will have opened for you, from where you have only to ring the bell and from the restaurant they will bring you whatever you ask for."
## THE MIRACULOUS ASSISTANCE
The Station Chief and the other employees were astonished by the facilities obtained, above all by the delivery of the tickets gratuitously. In this way, we had the pleasure of being able to admire the famous Temple of Madura, of which Sri Ramana Maharishi asked us upon departing: "Will you not visit it?"...
Resigned to what was occurring, we directed ourselves, a little later, to the city, and I will leave that one of my companions, more versed than I in the history of those Sacred Places, describe the visit:
## THE SACRED CITY OF SOUTHERN INDIA
Resigned to what was occurring, we directed ourselves, a little later, to the city, and I will leave that one of my companions, more versed than I in the history of those Sacred Places, describe the visit:
## THE SACRED CITY OF SOUTHERN INDIA
"Salam!... Salam!... to the unforgettable MADURA, the holy city of Southern India, the Tamil Benares, the oldest city of Southern India. Like all the other ancient cities of India, Madura has known how to survive the destructions of time and escape the spoliation of the Muslim invader, being witness to numerous dynasties.
The city of Madura has been, during the last two thousand years the center of Dravidian civilization. Some have called it 'the Athens' of Southern India. It is the seat of the Tamil Academy, toward which all the students of the south direct themselves, and Madura became famous for its Tamil poets. It is one of the few cities that still maintain their contact and intact connection with the past and its growth continues upon roots firmly planted more than 2,000 years ago. Its history is, then, closely related to that of Southern India and can be divided into three periods: the ancient, the medieval and the modern.
## THE ANCIENT PANDYA KINGDOM
Madura was governed since primitive times, by the PANDYA kings. The Mahavamsa (famous Ceylonese chronicle) describes the first king of Ceylon (500 years before Christ) as son-in-law of a Pandya king of Madura. Megasthenes, the Greek ambassador at the court of Chandra Gupta Maurya (320 years B.C.), describes Madura as governed by a Pandya princess, who enjoyed the rents of 365 villages that paid on a pre-fixed day of the year, their tribute to that Queen, who had an army composed of 500 elephants, 4,000 horses and 13,000 soldiers.
This city was very well known by the ancient Greeks and Romans and is mentioned in the Ptolemaic Tables as being the seat of the Pandya kingdom of the South. Ptolemy refers to Madura as 'the Southern Mediterranean Empireum.' The word madura means 'sweetness'; tradition says that Siva was so pleased with the construction of the city, that he poured nectar 'madhu' over it, deriving from there its name of: Madura.
## THE AUTHENTIC HINDU ATMOSPHERE
What immediately surprises upon arriving at this city, is the complete absence of hotels, restaurants, banks, etc... that is, of everything that a European pretends to find when coming from Ceylon or from Madras. Madura is, typically, a Hindu city, without the least trace of anything European. One rubs shoulders with the heterogeneous gathering of priests and merchants, in which a European is, immediately, point of target of all. The only means of locomotion is constituted by small carriages, pulled by oxen and called 'djerkas.' We directed ourselves toward the Temple, which can be classified, with impartiality, among the architectural marvels of the world.
The only means of locomotion is constituted by small carriages, pulled by oxen and called 'djerkas.' We directed ourselves toward the Temple, which can be classified, with impartiality, among the architectural marvels of the world.
To reach it, we have to follow the great artery called Permal-Kohil, passing in front of the great sacred pond that bears the same name. We follow then by the important street of the West Tower, which leads to the colossal Temple. In the street, one hears a continuous tinkling of bracelets and rings, as well as that of the complicated hoops that the women wear placed in their ears, and that make a curious musical play. Such jewels are called 'prambasam' among the poor and 'itediku' among the rich. The strange pendants over the noses worn by women are called 'muketi' and others, that they wear in the nasal septum, are the 'pillako.'
## THE TEMPLE AS CITY CENTER
The Temple is erected in the center of the City, situated in the middle of the principal artery. Really the city has grown having the Temple as nucleus, resulting thus Madura a true 'Temple-City.' Of the 9 towers that the Temple has, 4 are the most important, having between 60 and 152 feet of height. They are the towers of the North, South, East and West, almost similar in their form. The West tower is covered by innumerable small statues, representing figures of Puranic history. The North tower contains miniatures of the varied Gopuranas and Viamanas (Temples) that are found throughout Southern India. The East tower is dedicated to Siva and would seem the most important, having a very curious history that I am going to relate:
## THE EAST TOWER'S SACRED HISTORY
During the reign of Chokkanatha-Naik, the palace officials applied, without knowledge of the King, an illegal tax upon the servants of the Temple, who decided that one of them should sacrifice his life as protest against that injustice. Thus then, one of those holy Servants of the Temple threw himself from the East tower, dying instantaneously, crushed by such great precipitation.
In such form, the unjust tax was suppressed thanks to this sacrifice. But the memory remained upon the Tower and still today, it is believed that it is 'haunted.' At the feet of said tower is the famous staircase of 18 steps, that go from the feet of the god Karuppanaswami to the door of the very Sanctuary. That small Temple is used, very frequently, when it is necessary to know some solemn promises and lend sacred oaths, having been noted that, when in such occasions, a man or woman pronounces a falsehood and has passed through those steps, they find violent death within 18 days. Such fact has been many times verified.
## THE MUSICAL PILLARS
Such fact has been many times verified.
## THE MUSICAL PILLARS
The South tower, the highest, since it has 152 feet, displays as base some pillars known by the name of 'musical pillars,' constituted by 22 rods carved in a single block of granite. Such rods or fine pillars emit musical notes when struck upon them. At the foot of this tower there is another small sanctuary, called of the Kaiédel Mottai Hopurathan, which is the guardian deity of said tower, considered also as guardian of public health, since it is usually propitiated in time of epidemic.
Continuing, we find ourselves in front of the so-called Sacred Pond of 'the Golden Lotuses,' considered as something very sacred. A bath in those waters will give health and even erase all the most grave sins. Said pond has such name since Indra worshipped Sundareswar with the beautiful golden flowers that grew in its water. The pond is surrounded by spacious corridors, that are used for the religious ceremonies of the great Durbars (festivities).
## THE HERON'S SACRED LEGEND
The legend says that a heron was induced to come to the famous pond of 'the Golden Lotuses.' It bathed in its waters and flew around the Pagoda; feeling hungry, it had the temptation to feed itself with some of the many little fish that it saw in the pond. But, in the same instant in which it was going to grab one, its eyes 'were opened' to the enormity of the projected offense, and the bird implored God that He kill its sinful body and receive its soul in the regions of Virtue, and asked also that the pond cease to produce fish and frogs so that, in the future, there would be no more temptation there for hungry birds. God granted what was asked and it is really curious to verify that, since ancient times, no little fish, not even a frog, inhabits the Pond of the 'Golden Lotuses.'

### THE DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE OF DESTINY-GUIDED PILGRIMAGE FOR WARTIME SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING
This extraordinary account of Maya's "obligatory visit" to Madura temple appears in June 1942 when understanding the operation of spiritual destiny becomes essential for conscious cooperation with forces beyond human planning and control. The systematic documentation of apparent "mistakes" leading to perfect spiritual outcome demonstrates how authentic pilgrimage operates through cosmic rather than personal timing.
**The Maharishi's Prophetic Question**: The opening exchange where Maharishi asks "Will you visit the Temple of Madura?" followed by the travelers' response "No...we already lost the opportunity" and his significant comment "Pity! So you will not visit it?" demonstrates how realized beings often know spiritual destiny while appearing to merely make casual conversation. During wartime, when conventional planning systems prove inadequate, recognizing how spiritual guidance operates through apparently ordinary exchanges becomes essential.
During wartime, when conventional planning systems prove inadequate, recognizing how spiritual guidance operates through apparently ordinary exchanges becomes essential.
**The Multiple System Failures**: The systematic catalogue of errors—ticket agent misinformation, traffic inspector misdirection, absence of ticket inspectors, universal passenger agreement on wrong destination—demonstrates how spiritual destiny operates through precisely coordinated "coincidences" that would be statistically impossible if occurring randomly. This provides understanding that authentic spiritual pilgrimage creates its own opportunities despite apparent obstacles.
**The Geographic Impossibility**: The comparison of ending up in Madura instead of Madras to "taking a train in Durazno, believing to arrive in Montevideo we found ourselves in Artigas" emphasizes the complete geographical impossibility of such massive misdirection occurring through normal circumstances. The 800-kilometer error requiring 12 additional hours of travel demonstrates how spiritual forces can override practical planning when higher purposes need fulfillment.
**The Miraculous Resolution**: The sudden appearance of the "General Traffic Chief...a Hindu gentleman who gave us all kinds of apologies making us the three tickets for the night express" along with free accommodation and meals demonstrates how spiritual destiny not only creates necessary circumstances but provides complete support for fulfilling higher purposes. The "astonishment" of station employees "above all by the delivery of the tickets gratuitously" shows how unusual such generous treatment was.
**The Cosmic Timing Recognition**: The immediate connection between their unexpected arrival and Maharishi's departing question—"Sri Ramana Maharishi asked us upon departing: 'Will you not visit it?'"—demonstrates how authentic spiritual teachers often know divine timing while appearing to merely make suggestions. This provides understanding that genuine gurus operate through cosmic rather than merely personal knowledge.
**The Historical Continuity**: The detailed account of Madura as "the holy city of Southern India, the Tamil Benares" that has "known how to survive the destructions of time and escape the spoliation of the Muslim invader" demonstrates how authentic sacred centers maintain spiritual power despite political upheavals. During wartime, when sacred places face destruction, understanding how genuine spiritual centers preserve eternal wisdom becomes essential.
**The Cultural Integration**: The recognition of Madura as "the center of Dravidian civilization" called "the Athens of Southern India" that is "the seat of the Tamil Academy" shows how authentic spiritual centers serve both religious and cultural functions. The "roots firmly planted more than 2,000 years ago" demonstrate how genuine sacred places provide stability that transcends temporary political changes.
The "roots firmly planted more than 2,000 years ago" demonstrate how genuine sacred places provide stability that transcends temporary political changes.
**The Ancient Recognition**: The historical documentation that "the ancient Greeks and Romans" knew Madura and "Ptolemy refers to Madura as 'the Southern Mediterranean Empireum'" demonstrates how authentic spiritual centers achieve international recognition through their genuine rather than merely local significance. The etymology that "madura means 'sweetness'" from Siva pouring "nectar 'madhu' over it" provides traditional understanding of divine blessing creating permanent sacred geography.
**The Authentic Hindu Atmosphere**: The description of "complete absence of hotels, restaurants, banks...without the least trace of anything European" demonstrates how authentic spiritual places maintain their essential character rather than adapting to commercial tourism. The "heterogeneous gathering of priests and merchants" with traditional "carriages...pulled by oxen and called 'djerkas'" shows how sacred centers preserve traditional rather than modern lifestyles.
**The Temple-City Unity**: The recognition that "the city has grown having the Temple as nucleus, resulting thus Madura a true 'Temple-City'" demonstrates how authentic spiritual centers organize rather than compete with practical life. During periods when spiritual and material concerns often appear to conflict, understanding how genuine sacred places integrate rather than separate different aspects of human life becomes essential.
**The Architectural Marvel Recognition**: The classification of Madura temple "with impartiality, among the architectural marvels of the world" demonstrates how authentic spiritual architecture achieves artistic excellence rather than merely serving functional purposes. The detailed description of the "9 towers...4 are the most important, having between 60 and 152 feet of height" shows how sacred architecture operates through precise mathematical and artistic principles.
**The Sacred Sacrifice History**: The account of the temple servant who "threw himself from the East tower...as protest against that injustice" leading to suppression of "the unjust tax" demonstrates how authentic spiritual centers maintain justice through radical commitment rather than mere political protest. The continuing belief that the tower is "'haunted'" shows how sacrifice for spiritual principles creates lasting spiritual presence.
**The Musical Pillars Technology**: The description of "musical pillars...constituted by 22 rods carved in a single block of granite" that "emit musical notes when struck" demonstrates how authentic spiritual architecture incorporates acoustic principles that serve both artistic and spiritual purposes. During periods when artistic and spiritual achievements face destruction, documenting such technical accomplishments becomes essential for cultural preservation.
During periods when artistic and spiritual achievements face destruction, documenting such technical accomplishments becomes essential for cultural preservation.
**The Sacred Pond Purification**: The teaching about the "Sacred Pond of 'the Golden Lotuses'" where "a bath in those waters will give health and even erase all the most grave sins" demonstrates how authentic sacred places provide both physical and spiritual healing through natural rather than artificial means. The absence of fish and frogs according to the heron legend shows how spiritual purification operates through transformation rather than mere cleansing.
**The Divine Response to Prayer**: The legend of the heron whose prayer that "the pond cease to produce fish and frogs so that, in the future, there would be no more temptation there for hungry birds" being granted by God demonstrates how authentic spiritual places respond to sincere prayer through permanent rather than temporary changes. This provides understanding that genuine spiritual transformation affects material as well as spiritual conditions.

## ⚡ **THE POST-MIDWAY PROPHETIC SIGNIFICANCE**
This June 1942 issue appears as the **chronologically earliest** translated issue, emerging immediately after the Battle of Midway (June 4-7, 1942)—the first decisive Allied victory that begins Japan's strategic retreat, though the war's outcome remains unclear to contemporaries. The timing reveals **La Iniciación**'s extraordinary prophetic understanding that this moment represents the pivot point when humanity's spiritual destiny hangs in the balance.
### **THE UNPRECEDENTED HISTORICAL JUNCTURE**
June 1942 marks the precise fulcrum when World War II could tip either toward Axis victory leading to permanent totalitarian domination, or toward Allied victory creating opportunity for spiritual reconstruction:
**Midway's Hidden Significance**: Though the naval battle halted Japanese expansion, most contemporaries didn't yet understand its decisive importance for the Pacific war's eventual outcome
**German Supreme Confidence**: Hitler's forces prepare for Operation Blue toward Stalingrad, representing their final chance for decisive Eastern victory before winter
**Holocaust Acceleration**: The systematic implementation of industrial genocide reaches peak efficiency across Nazi-occupied Europe
**Global Spiritual Crisis**: The conflict has transcended mere political dispute to become fundamental test between purely materialistic versus spiritually-grounded civilization
**Civilizational Decision Point**: Humanity faces its ultimate choice between domination-based versus service-based approaches to social organization
### **THE JOURNAL'S FOUNDATIONAL RESPONSE**
This June 1942 issue demonstrates remarkable spiritual prescience through systematic integration of:
**Living Spiritual Authority** (Sri Ramana Maharishi): Providing the complete model of authentic self-realization that transcends all political, cultural, and religious divisions—exactly the universal spiritual standard needed when ideological conflicts threaten permanent human fragmentation
**Universal Reconstruction Principles** (Masonic Temple Analysis): Establishing systematic understanding of how to organize post-war civilization according to cosmic rather than merely human principles, preventing repeat of the failures that led to current catastrophe
**Scientific Spiritual Techniques** (Astrology/Yoga/Chromotherapy): Offering practical methodologies for individual and collective healing that function independently of failing institutional systems
**Prophetic Verification** (Celestial Influences): Demonstrating through concrete fulfilled predictions that spiritual wisdom provides superior guidance compared to conventional material analysis

## 🌟 **THE FOUNDATIONAL TEACHINGS MASTERY**
### **SRI RAMANA MAHARISHI: THE UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL EXEMPLAR**
The complete biography provides unparalleled example of authentic self-realization:
- **Total Surrender**: Abandoning "EVERYTHING, even his own clothes, and naked of body and open of soul penetrated into the Temple, disposed never to leave there without having found the Light"
- **Natural Authority**: Rising from unknown ascetic to acknowledged "MAHARISHI" ("GREAT SOUL, GREAT SPIRIT") through genuine achievement rather than self-promotion
- **Family Transcendence**: The supreme test when his mother arrives with "all the marvelous arguments of a mother's heart" but becomes his disciple when "the DIVINE LIGHT had been stronger than mother's love"
- **Universal Teaching**: The central question "Who are you?" leading to "the wheel of thought stops. The Light enters" providing complete methodology for authentic spiritual realization
- **Healing Compassion**: Curing thousands "just by looking at them" and healing the plague-stricken woman by promising "I will weep your pain with you"
- **Cosmic Transmission**: Daily connection available to all who "near or far from Him seek the Light with His help" between midday and one-thirty when "the AURA OF THE MAHARISHI unites with ALL"
### **MASONIC SYMBOLISM: COSMIC RECONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY**
The systematic temple analysis provides complete blueprint for spiritual civilization:
- **Universal Foundation**: Temple walls designated "NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST, to show that the environment is UNIVERSAL" transcending all particular boundaries
- **Dualistic Integration**: Black and white floor representing "relative Good and Evil...necessary and co-existent" as "the very floor of the visible world" preventing utopian delusions
- **Triple World Correspondence**: Floor (material), red walls (astral/forces), blue vault (spiritual) demonstrating "three interpenetrated worlds in Total Life"
- **Numerical Wisdom**: Rope with "81 knots" where "9 is the number of the Initiate...9 times 9 gives 81" representing "Union of all Initiates and Total Initiation"
- **Solar-Lunar Balance**: "The SUN, dador of life and source of all vital and positive force" with "The MOON, source of REFLECTED Light" showing "the Law of Polarization in its most REAL aspect"
- **Triple Authority**: Venerable (Wisdom), First Vigilant (Force), Second Vigilant (Beauty) demonstrating "to depart from Wisdom, to, with spiritual, moral and even physical Force, realize Beauty, Harmony"
- **Sacred Word Integration**: "Human Word," "Word of the Revealer," and "Divine Word directly" providing complete educational progression from practical communication through traditional transmission to direct spiritual realization
### **SCIENTIFIC SPIRITUAL APPLICATIONS: TECHNICAL VALIDATION**
The practical courses demonstrate how spiritual wisdom enhances rather than opposes rigorous methodology:
**Astrological Precision**:
- Astronomical foundations requiring "notions of astronomy" because without this "treatises of astrology are, often, Chinese puzzles"
- Systematic house division with "6 zones of 30 degrees each...180º for the visible half and 180º for the other half" completing "360º for the entire sphere"
- Seasonal correspondence beginning "in March with the Sign of Aries" progressing through "spring (1,2,3)...summer (4,5,6)...autumn (7,8,9)...winter (10,11,12)"
- Angular-Succedent-Cadent classification providing complete system for understanding how influences vary in intensity and quality
**Yoga Comprehensiveness**:
- Nine-fold classification from [translate:Asana-Yoga] (postures) through [translate:Raja-Yoga] (mental control) to [translate:Tattva-Yoga] (elemental mastery)
- Four complementary paths: [translate:Karma-Yoga] "removes evil," [translate:Bhakti-Yoga] "destroys hatred," [translate:Raja-Yoga] "harmonizes the mind," [translate:Jnana-Yoga] "removes wickedness and ignorance"
- Systematic progression from [translate:PRATHAMKALPIKA] (preliminary student) through final [translate:KAIVALYA] (unity, liberation, emancipation and final bliss)
- Understanding that "each one of these paths requires a life to practice it" providing realistic rather than superficial expectations
**Chromotherapy Science**:
- Dr. Babbitt's empirical findings that "the center of electrical action that calms the nerves is in the violet color...that of the action that calms the circulatory apparatus, in blue...that of luminosity, in yellow and that of heat, in red"
- Systematic therapeutic protocols for nervous system (excitation/depression/atonic/hypo-atonic states) and circulatory system disorders
- Specific disease applications from "general weakness" through "neurasthenia" with precise color prescriptions based on observed rather than theoretical effects
### **PROPHETIC VERIFICATION: COSMIC GUIDANCE DEMONSTRATION**
The celestial influences essay provides remarkable validation of astrological accuracy:
- **Earthquake Prediction**: "in northern Africa, Spain or Portugal. There was, really, a quite important earthquake in Lisbon"
- **Chemical Explosion Prophecy**: Belgian factory disaster with "more than 200 human lives and more than a thousand wounded...precisely by explosion in a chemical products factory"
- **Chemical Warfare Anticipation**: "Beginning of chemical warfare" verified when "the press in general has divulged the mutual threats that peoples at war make to each other"
- **Anatomical Correspondence**: Predicted crimes manifesting through wounds "in the region of the neck and chest (regions of the human body ruled by Taurus and Gemini)"
- **Triple Manifestation**: Influences operating through "The body of the Earth: earthquakes and cyclones," "Material things: factories and gases," and "Human bodies and their passions: crimes, wars"
### **DESTINY COOPERATION: PILGRIMAGE GUIDANCE**
Maya's "obligatory visit" to Madura demonstrates how authentic spiritual seeking transcends human planning:
