The house’s own work
Sacred Synthesis.
One volume, and seven documents inside it: a novel, a history, a handbook, a research programme, the Book’s account of itself, a synopsis written from 2100, and a manual of practice. They are interleaved, which is why its chapter numbers repeat — Chapter 1 appears three times, and belongs to three different documents.
Fiction
A SPECULATIVE CHRONICLE, NOT A RECORD. Sacred Synthesis is written as history — dated events, named participants, an underground network, a global transformation — and it is fiction, by the intent of its author and by editorial ruling. Everything else in this reader is what it claims to be: Boethius in the Friedlein text, the Sacred Books of the East in Müller's series, L'Initiation as Papus printed it. This book is the one thing here that is not, and it should be read as the argument it is rather than as the chronicle it imitates. The practices it describes are real and are held elsewhere in this archive with their own sources; the world it describes them saving is not.
Choose a way through
The Book names its own reading paths.
These six are not our suggestions. The Book sets them out in its own Appendix B — “All paths are valid. Choose based on your needs, not perceived worthiness.”
Six paths, named by the Book itself in its Appendix B. Choosing one dims the movements it does not use; nothing is hidden and nothing is reordered.
About the black blocks
Some titles and passages below are printed with solid blocks — . Nothing is broken and nothing has been withheld here: the blocks are in the work as its author wrote it, part of the conceit that this is a damaged document recovered later. The Book says so itself: those sections “aren’t decoration, they’re deliberate”.
4 of the 67 sections carry them in their titles. They are reproduced exactly and are never repaired.
The seven documents
In the order the volume was filed.
Section numbers are the Book’s own, 1–67. Nothing here is reordered; the movements only say which document each section belongs to.
