Sacred Synthesis is written as history — dated events, named participants, an underground network, a global transformation — and it is fiction, by the intent of its author and by editorial ruling. Everything else in this reader is what it claims to be: Boethius in the Friedlein text, the Sacred Books of the East in Müller's series, L'Initiation as Papus printed it. This book is the one thing here that is not, and it should be read as the argument it is rather than as the chronicle it imitates. The practices it describes are real and are held elsewhere in this archive with their own sources; the world it describes them saving is not.
1What Went Wrong The Sacred Synthesis succeeded in transforming human civilization between 2025-2080, but the materials hint at challenges that followed. Perhaps the very success contained seeds of its own transformation. The empty cities I walk through may not represent failure but graduation, humanity moving beyond fixed settlements into something we're still discovering. The chronicles suggest that as people became more conscious, as societies became more evolved, they faced new challenges requiring further development.
