**Historical Note:** This December 1944 issue represents a profound synthesis of historical documentation, astrological science, advanced nutritional research, complete spiritual organization, revolutionary scientific exposition, and compelling medical testimony as World War II approaches its European conclusion. Published during the Battle of the Bulge (December 16-25), the issue demonstrates how authentic spiritual work maintains its essential focus on eternal principles even during humanity's most chaotic moments.
Pitágoras's meticulously researched historical-chronological notes provide unprecedented detail about the crucial period 1767-1774 when Martinism took its definitive form through the collaboration between Martines de Pasqually and Louis-Claude de Saint Martin. The documentation of Martines's tragic end in Port-au-Prince and his wife's simultaneous mystical vision in Bordeaux demonstrates the type of precise historical research that characterizes authentic spiritual transmission studies.
The remarkable Vatican discovery of Jesus's physical description by Proconsul Publius Lentulus, noting "Libra (1° 26') as ascendant," provides extraordinary correlation between traditional astrological knowledge and historical documentation, demonstrating how ancient wisdom often preserves information later validated through other sources.
Most significantly, Andrea Majocchi's medical testimony of the Lourdes pilgrimage represents one of the most compelling accounts of how scientific skepticism can gradually open to recognition of miraculous possibilities through direct experience rather than mere theoretical consideration.

## Comments on the First Degree of Martinism
### Historical-Chronological Notes on the Martinist Order (Continuation)
**1767** — **March 21.** — Constitution, in Paris, of the Sovereign Tribunal of the Order of the Elected Cohens with Bacon de La Chevalerie as Universal Substitute and with Onésime Henri de Loos, Prince of Lusignan, Bonnichon or Du Guers and Fauger d'Ignéacourt as members.
**May.** — Initiation, in Versailles, after a moving ceremony, of Jean Baptiste Willermoz, who returned immediately to Lyon with the grade of Commander of Orient and Occident and the functions of Inspector General of the Order.
**May.** — Return to Bordeaux of Martines de Pasqually after having passed through Amboise, Blois, Tours, Poitiers, La Rochelle, Rochefort, Saintes and Blaye.
**August 27.** — Marriage of Martines de Pasqually with Miss Margarita Angélica Collas de Saint Michel, niece of a former major of the Regiment of Foix and daughter of Anselmo Collas.
**1768.** — Difficulties, dissensions, misunderstandings and disorder among the Cohens due to the dissolvent maneuvers of Blanquet and especially of Du Guers. This latter, known by Martines in Paris and named R.C. and member of the Sovereign Tribunal, arbitrarily modified the rituals and committed an innumerable series of abuses until Martines expelled him in November 1768.
**March 13.** — Elevation of J.B. Willermoz, in Paris, to the grade of R.C.
**June 17.** — Birth of the first son of Martines, to whom was given the name of Jean Jacques Philippe. This son, destined to be the successor of Martines, was baptized on June 20 in the parish of Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux. **He disappeared in the whirlwind of the French Revolution without anyone being able to have any news of him.**
**August-October.** — Louis Claude de Saint Martin, born January 18, 1743 in Amboise in Touraine, lawyer and lieutenant in the Infantry Regiment of Foix since July 26, 1765, met, through the intermediation of Grainville, Martines de Pasqually and was initiated in the Order of the Elected Cohens, probably by de Balzac, between August and October 1768.
**1769.** — **January.** — Expulsion of Du Guers from France by the Tribunal of Bordeaux and his embarkation for Cayenne.
Initiation in Bordeaux, by Martines, of Abbot Fournier, cleric of the diocese of Lyon.
Great interest in the Order of the Elected Cohens, in which many masons of elevated social position asked to be initiated. Despite the disorder provoked by Blanquet and Du Guers, **many Chapters had been founded among which we mention those of Bordeaux, Montpellier, Avignon, Foix, Libourne, La Rochelle, Eu, Paris, Lyon, Versailles, Metz etc.**
Despite the disorder provoked by Blanquet and Du Guers, **many Chapters had been founded among which we mention those of Bordeaux, Montpellier, Avignon, Foix, Libourne, La Rochelle, Eu, Paris, Lyon, Versailles, Metz etc.**
**1770.** — **January.** — Fournier is named secretary of Martines, position that he will hold until 1771, year in which he will be substituted by Saint Martin.
Administrative disorganization still continued in the Order. To eliminate all causes or obstacles that could impede the normal functioning of the same, Grainville proposed that Martines move to Paris and that his debts be paid. This proposal was not accepted by the R.C.s of the Sovereign Tribunal of Paris. Frequent exchange of letters between Champollon, Grainville, Willermoz and Saint Martin, consulting about the most convenient resolutions to be taken for a complete reorganization of the Order.
**April.** — Interview in Paris, between Grainville, Willermoz and probably Lusignan and Bacon de la Chevalerie, in which Martines was offered payment of his debts and his transfer to Paris.
**July 11.** — Martines answers the proposals of the R.C.s, refusing the offer and the other proposals. Calm and order return to reign among the Cohens.
**1771.** — At the beginning of the year, **Saint Martin definitively abandons military service to dedicate himself completely to spiritual life.** He establishes his residence in Bordeaux and is named secretary of Martines de Pasqually in substitution of Fournier, position he will hold until 1773. **The true organizational work of the Order began really from the moment that Saint Martin began to perform his secretary functions.** Everything that was lacking to the various Chapters is sent abundantly by Saint Martin.
**Martines de Pasqually begins to write the Treatise of Reintegration.**
**1772.** — **April 17.** — Elevation of Saint Martin and Du Serre to the grade of R.C.
**May 5.** — **Martines de Pasqually embarks for the island of Santo Domingo with the purpose of going to collect an inheritance.**
Du Serre is named Substitute of Martines. The Sovereign Tribunal is composed of Saint Martin, Willermoz, Duroy D'Hauterive and the Prince of Lusignan. This Tribunal does not exercise, in reality, an effective directive or orienting function. The personal influence of the R.C.s can manifest and begin thus to give other orientations to the Order, among which, those of Saint Martin and Willermoz.
At the end of the year Willermoz again develops intense activity in masonry with Bacon de La Chevalerie and others, putting himself in contact with the Candeur Lodge of Strasbourg and through this with the Strict Observance of Baron de Hundt. This activity provokes the displeasure of Martines de Pasqually.
This activity provokes the displeasure of Martines de Pasqually.
**1773.** — **Martines de Pasqually founds in Port-au-Prince, in Santo Domingo, a Sovereign Tribunal for the colony, with Caignet de Lester as Substitute of the Grand Master and two Chapters, one in Port-au-Prince and another in Leogane. The Order prospers on the island.**
Du Serre receives continuous instructions from Martines and all study material.
**May.** — Du Serre makes a trip to Lyon visiting the brothers of that city, where he was received by Dr. Pierre Jacques Willermoz and Orsel.
**September 10.** — **Saint Martin arrives in Lyon, where he will remain almost a year in company of Willermoz, attending to the instruction of the Cohens and writing his first work: [translate:"Des Erreurs et de la Vérité"] "On Errors and Truth."**
**October.** — Martines communicates that all correspondence should be directed to Caignet de Lester, since his intention is to name him his Substitute.
**1774.** — **August 3.** — Martines de Pasqually communicates having named as his successor Caignet de Lester. This position is held by Lester until September 11, 1778, year of his death in Port-au-Prince.
## The Mysterious Death and Mystical Vision
**September 20.** — **Martines de Pasqually dies in Port-au-Prince, as a consequence of an infection provoked by two large nails, one in the left arm and another in the right leg. His remains lie in an unknown place. At the same moment of disembodiment, his companion, while occupied in embroidery work, in her house in Bordeaux, saw him cross the room diagonally from East to West and in such evident form that, in the presence of many people, she exclaimed: "Ah my God, my husband has died!"**
**Saint Martin, foreseeing his death wrote to Willermoz on October 2, that is, when no one knew of the Master's death: "I desire, it is true, to see him again, but it is a desire that we will have for a long time. The will of God be done."**
**(To be continued)**

**Historical Analysis:** This meticulously researched chronological documentation represents one of the most complete and precise accounts of Martinism's formative period available in any literature. The systematic recording of specific dates, places, and personalities demonstrates the type of rigorous historical scholarship that characterizes authentic spiritual transmission studies.
The documentation of Martines's marriage to **Margarita Angélica Collas de Saint Michel** on August 27, 1767, and the birth of his son **Jean Jacques Philippe** on June 17, 1768, who was "destined to be the successor of Martines" but "disappeared in the whirlwind of the French Revolution without anyone being able to have any news of him," provides crucial insight into how spiritual transmission can be disrupted by historical upheavals.
The systematic account of **Du Guers's** destructive influence—"arbitrarily modified the rituals and committed an innumerable series of abuses"—demonstrates how spiritual organizations must maintain vigilance against individuals who would corrupt authentic teaching for personal gain. The expulsion by the Tribunal of Bordeaux and embarkation for Cayenne shows how traditional authority can effectively address such problems.
Most significantly, the documentation of Saint Martin's transition from military service to complete dedication to spiritual life beginning in 1771, and his appointment as Martines's secretary, marks the beginning of Martinism's true organizational period. The recognition that "the true organizational work of the Order began really from the moment that Saint Martin began to perform his secretary functions" demonstrates how authentic spiritual movements require both inspired teachers and capable administrators.
The extraordinary account of Martines's death and his wife's simultaneous mystical vision provides one of the most compelling documented examples of consciousness surviving bodily death. The precision of details—"two large nails, one in the left arm and another in the right leg," the vision occurring "at the same moment of disembodiment" with the spirit crossing "diagonally from East to West"—demonstrates the type of careful observation that characterizes authentic mystical phenomena rather than mere legend or superstition.

## Practical Course in Judicial Astrology
We will now study the influences of the 7th Zodiacal Sign:
## LIBRA or The Balance
The Rosicrucian **J. Burgoyne**, author of [translate:"La Luz de Egipto"] "The Light of Egypt," tells us that this constellation, under its symbolic aspect, represents Justice. Our readers know, without doubt, the goddess of justice, represented by a woman, blindfolded and with scales in her hand. Such a concept is clearly astrological and refers to the celestial Balance of the Heavens. The Sun enters this sign around September 21, when, as the poet Manilius says: "Day and night are weighed in the scales of the Balance; equal for a certain time, and, finally, night triumphs." (In the Northern hemisphere).
### Kabbalistic Significance
**Kabbalistically, the sign of the Balance signifies the kidneys and hips of the Great Celestial Man and, therefore, represents the conservatory or central deposit of reproductive fluids.** It is also the magnetic whirlwind of procreative force. This constellation also represents, in its most internal aspect, the equinoctial point of the arc, in the ascending and descending cycle of the vital atom. For this reason, this sign represents and contains the unification of cosmic forces, being the great central point of equilibrium of the sphere.
For this reason, this sign represents and contains the unification of cosmic forces, being the great central point of equilibrium of the sphere.
**The Balance, on the esoteric planisphere, is occupied by Dan. The patriarch, in his blessing, alludes to such celestial nature, in the following terms: "Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel."**
The Balance represents the internal equilibrium of the forces of nature and contains the mystery of divine expiation in the ancient Initiations. On the universal map, such sign becomes Enoch, the perfect man. **Its mystical gem is the diamond.** As a magnetic talisman, this stone works as a repelling force and combines with the magnetic sphere of those born under such influence, to repel emanations from foreign bodies, whether things or persons. The Balance is the second emanation of the Air triplicity and is the constellation of Venus.
### Intellectual Influence
**On the Intellectual plane, the Balance signifies external perception, balanced by intuition; their union is externalized in the form of reason and "prescence" (presentiment or premonition).** Therefore, those who are dominated by this influence constitute the rationalist school among the thinkers of the world. Theoretically, they are firm defenders of the doctrines of universal fraternity, and of human rights. But, practically, they rarely put their favorite theories into action (except in case they profit something from it).
Those who are born under the sign of the Balance, although they possess a splendidly balanced intellectual and magnetic organism, rarely manage to rise to very eminent positions, because they are too "equal," leveled, intellectually and physically, to become popular leaders of any radical or sensational action. **It is, then, an attribute of the Balance, to infuse in all those who are born under its influence, a natural instinct that makes them accept the "golden mean" or, as it was called: the happy medium.** Therefore, generally, they impose equal respect on both extremes in any debate.
### Physical Influence
**On the Physical plane, the Balance grants, generally, when found in the Ascendant of a chart, tall, slender stature, of good proportions; brown hair, blue, luminous eyes and beautiful complexion. The character is noble, amiable, haughty, but good.**
It should be kept in mind that this sign often gives dark brown, or black hair, and very beautiful features, especially in feminine themes.
Among other plants, this sign rules: watercress, white rose, strawberry, primrose, grapevine, violet, pansy, lemon balm, lemon and pansy. Among stones: white marble, feldspar and all white quartzes.
## THE DECANATES OF LIBRA ON THE ASCENDANT
**(according to Julevno)**
Among other plants, this sign rules: watercress, white rose, strawberry, primrose, grapevine, violet, pansy, lemon balm, lemon and pansy. Among stones: white marble, feldspar and all white quartzes.
## THE DECANATES OF LIBRA ON THE ASCENDANT
**(according to Julevno)**
The Balance, in general, grants slender and tall stature, round face, straight and rather small nose, white and rosy complexion, long and fine hair—blonde or in brown tones—pleasant features, black or gray-blue eyes. With age the complexion can become dry or pimpled. The character is usually willful, somewhat ambitious, of even temper, with tendency to goodness and to mercy or pity. It also grants: penetration of judgment, elevated tastes, love for music and painting. This sign has influence over the hips, kidneys and expresses the influence of Venus, its ruler.
### The Three Decanates
**The first decanate of Libra (first 10 degrees) is governed by the Moon.** It indicates weak, intelligent character but one that lets itself be influenced and somewhat extravagant. Such person will be changeable, will possess very diversified aptitudes changing frequently position and projects and may arrive at honors and fortune or some public function.
**The second decanate (degrees 11 to 20) is ruled by Saturn.** Such decanate infers much love for home, stability in affections, great changes "ups and downs" during existence, often through one's own fault. But, after many trials, well-being comes toward the end of life. Marriage does not bring much happiness.
**The third decanate (degrees 21 to 30) is ruled by Jupiter:** makes the person good and generous, faithful and delicate friend, grants luck, wealth, numerous travels and happy marriage.
## THE "FACES" OF LIBRA (divisions of 5°)
**If we consider the "FACES" of LIBRA**, we will see that, according to classical opinions collected by **Dr. Salmón**, they indicate:
### FACE 1st (0° to 5°):
**Tall and well-made person, round and beautiful face, but thin or pale sometimes, the eyes are grayish, nose and lips well modeled and modest attitude.** This face has influence of Mars and Mercury.
### FACE 2nd (6° to 10°):
**Indicates person larger than the previous face, the limbs being stronger in flesh and the complexion clearer.** The influence here is of Mercury and of the fixed star Sinistra which indicates: activity, intelligence and widowhood.
### FACE 3rd (11° to 15°):
**Medium stature, elongated face, somewhat swarthy complexion, broad forehead, gray eyes, brown, somewhat wavy hair. Arms and fingers quite long.** The face will have freckles but will be pleasant.
### FACE 4th (16° to 20°):
**Small and "cute" person, slender, with round face and clear complexion, lips and nose well formed, grayish eyes and blonde hair.**
### FACE 5th (21° to 25°):
Arms and fingers quite long.** The face will have freckles but will be pleasant.
### FACE 4th (16° to 20°):
**Small and "cute" person, slender, with round face and clear complexion, lips and nose well formed, grayish eyes and blonde hair.**
### FACE 5th (21° to 25°):
**Very similar to the previous, but the complexion has more color, the aspect is more haughty and the face more beautiful.** This face contains the fixed stars Spica of the Virgin and "Arcturus," which are of Mars, Jupiter and Venus vibration and promise wealth, honors and fame.
### FACE 6th (26° to 30°):
**Shapes persons similar to the previous faces, but of taller stature and much more accentuated beauty.**
## INFLUENCES OF LIBRA FACES ON THE ASCENDANT
**(according to old authors)**
**First face:** Prudent, sincere, honest person, of wisdom, good counselor and who expresses themselves very well.
**Second face:** Serious, prudent, discrete, helpful and honest person.
**Third face:** Active, serious, intelligent individual, qualified for business by notable aptitudes.
**Fourth face:** Prudent, valorous person, lover of study and respected for their knowledge.
**Fifth face:** Like the previous.
**Sixth face:** Honorable, noble, magnanimous and virtuous person.
## LIBRA FACES ON THE MEDIUM COELI:
**First:** Fame as merchant, favored by help or relations of aged persons.
**Second:** Good position as trusted secretary of personages.
**Third:** Success through own aptitudes and efforts.
**Fourth:** Benefits through protection of persons of elevated position.
**Fifth:** Like the previous.
**Sixth:** Their merits will attract favors and protection of women of position and will arrive at situation higher than that of their origin.

## PORTRAIT OF JESUS
**A description of Jesus has just been found in an ancient Latin text, from the Vatican Library, which has been revised under the direction of Pope Pius XI, the most ancient description of Jesus.**
It is a kind of police report, written under the command of Proconsul Publius Lentulus, predecessor of Pontius Pilate. This description says thus:
**"He has long and blonde hair, and it falls in curls over his shoulders. He wears it parted in the middle. The beard is double-pointed and more blonde than the hair. The eyes are light blue, and of kind expression, but sometimes they flash.**
**He is of normal constitution and erect body. The voice is sweet. He has never been seen to laugh, but people see him cry often. He has very well-cared-for hands.**
**He is called Jesus, son of Mary. His friends also call him the Son of God."**
**(Jesus had Libra (1° 26') as ascendant).**
---
The voice is sweet. He has never been seen to laugh, but people see him cry often. He has very well-cared-for hands.**
**He is called Jesus, son of Mary. His friends also call him the Son of God."**
**(Jesus had Libra (1° 26') as ascendant).**
---
**Historical Analysis:** This comprehensive astrological analysis of Libra demonstrates sophisticated integration of mythological, kabbalistic, and practical psychological knowledge. The correlation with the Biblical patriarch Dan—"Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel"—shows how zodiacal symbolism bridges scriptural wisdom with practical psychology, while the recognition that Libra represents "the kidneys and hips of the Great Celestial Man" and serves as "the central deposit of reproductive fluids" provides profound insight into this air sign's role in cosmic anatomy.
The teaching that Libra natives constitute "the rationalist school among thinkers" who are "firm defenders of universal fraternity and human rights" theoretically but "rarely put their favorite theories into action" demonstrates acute psychological observation of how this sign's inherent need for balance can lead to intellectual appreciation without practical commitment. The recognition that they "impose equal respect on both extremes in any debate" perfectly captures Libra's natural diplomatic tendencies.
Most extraordinarily, the inclusion of **Jesus's physical description** discovered in Vatican Library documents attributed to **Proconsul Publius Lentulus** provides remarkable correlation between traditional astrological knowledge and historical documentation. The notation that "Jesus had Libra (1° 26') as ascendant" demonstrates how ancient wisdom traditions often preserved astrological information about significant historical figures that later documentary evidence validates.
The detailed physical description—"long and blonde hair," "light blue eyes," "normal constitution and erect body," "sweet voice"—correlates perfectly with traditional Libra ascendant characteristics described in the text: "tall, slender stature, of good proportions; brown hair, blue, luminous eyes and beautiful complexion." This extraordinary correlation demonstrates how authentic astrological tradition preserves empirical observations about the correlation between celestial influences and physical manifestation that transcend mere theoretical speculation.
The systematic analysis of faces showing progression from "prudent, sincere, honest" (1st face) through various combinations to "honorable, noble, magnanimous and virtuous" (6th face) provides practical guidance for understanding personality development possibilities within each sign, while the inclusion of fixed stars like Spica and Arcturus shows the astronomical foundation underlying traditional astrological interpretation.

## Is it Possible to Prolong Youth?
### Does there exist a Spiritual Alchemy capable of returning youth to us? - Causes of old age and death.
**(Continuation)**
We saw in the preceding article, the causes that contribute to hair loss and the form in which we can avoid such loss and premature graying. Let us see, now, the interesting complement of this theme:
## The Chemistry of Hair Pigmentation
**The color of hair depends on pigmentation and this can only form on condition that one has a sufficient quantity of copper.** But it is not copper itself that intervenes for the formation of pigment. It is a catalyzing agent, that works as a stimulant, by its simple presence; now under the influence of copper, appears and makes itself present in the skin this mysterious substance derived from copper and which is responsible for the black pigment of hair.
### The Hindu Example
**Will it be for this reason that the Hindu people (very especially) call much attention for the abundance of their hair, the lack of grayness and baldness, which we attribute to the fact that this people makes continuous use of copper utensils, since they have adopted for thousands of years the recipients, plates, vessels, cups, etc., of this metal and naturally their alimentation, besides being rich in itself in copper, the contact with those recipients contaminates them still more with that metal?** It would be interesting to make observations in this regard.
## The Liver Connection
**The liver, which is rich in copper, also contains that mysterious derivative that impedes the graying of hair.** The experiments realized by clairvoyance, by certain wise men, demonstrate that this mysterious substance belongs to what we could call the **"filtered fraction" of the B vitamin group, that is Bx which is still a mystery unknown by science.**
**Vitamins are like stars and comets, suddenly a new one appears on the horizon of the microscope and some studious man discovers it as astronomers do with their telescope.**
## Scientific Advances
**Some who have approached a little toward this new element, have tried to isolate it chemically pure, producing a substance called para-amino-benzoic acid.**
This mysterious factor, derived from the copper of which we have spoken, if it could be isolated in sufficient quantity and be absorbed with foods, would not only conserve the black pigmentation of hair, but even freckles would disappear as if by magic.
## Yogic Production
**This mysterious agent can be elaborated by yogic practices, exercises, diet, respiration and mentalizations.**
But, as not all of us can practice with supreme perfection these four things, we must seek a simpler manner that comes at least to supply the deficiency of those factors already enumerated, and watch our alimentation.
As can be seen the thing is not easy, **the premature graying of hair is one of the first indications that there exists an imbalance in the body's chemistry.**
## Practical Nutritional Guidance
**To procure vitamins, it suffices to watch the alimentation a little, varying it sufficiently, introducing each day in our meals a raw salad, a little lemon or orange juice and fresh fruits in abundance.** Since, the pantry of our Mother Nature has been so prodigal in her variations, colors and aromas, let us know how to take advantage of the gift that she makes us to live healthy, happy and, eternally young.
**(To be continued)**
**PEACE IN THE HEART, HEALTH IN THE PHYSICAL BODY
AND UNION OF SOULS.**
**U**
**A M**
---
**Historical Analysis:** This advanced nutritional biochemistry research represents pioneering work that anticipates modern understanding of trace minerals, vitamin cofactors, and nutrient absorption by decades. The systematic analysis of copper's role as a "catalyzing agent" in hair pigmentation demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how micronutrients function as cofactors rather than direct active ingredients.
The observation about Hindu populations maintaining abundant hair with minimal grayness and baldness due to continuous use of copper utensils shows remarkable prescience about how traditional cultural practices often encode profound nutritional wisdom. The recognition that food "contact with those recipients contaminates them still more with that metal" demonstrates understanding of how cooking vessel materials affect nutrient content—a principle now validated by modern nutritional science.
The identification of a mysterious **"Bx" vitamin** in the "filtered fraction of the B vitamin group" and the connection to **"para-amino-benzoic acid"** represents extraordinary anticipation of what would later be understood as PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), now recognized as part of the folic acid complex and important for hair pigmentation. The recognition that vitamins "are like stars and comets, suddenly a new one appears on the horizon of the microscope" perfectly captures how nutritional science continues discovering new cofactors and micronutrients.
Most significantly, the teaching that this mysterious agent "can be elaborated by yogic practices, exercises, diet, respiration and mentalizations" demonstrates understanding of how consciousness and lifestyle practices can influence biochemical processes. This bridges ancient yogic understanding of how spiritual practices affect physical health with modern discoveries about how stress, breathing, and mental states influence cellular metabolism and gene expression.
This bridges ancient yogic understanding of how spiritual practices affect physical health with modern discoveries about how stress, breathing, and mental states influence cellular metabolism and gene expression.
The practical guidance to include "each day raw salad, lemon or orange juice and fresh fruits in abundance" while varying alimentation "sufficiently" shows sophisticated understanding of how dietary diversity and fresh food consumption provide the micronutrients necessary for optimal health. This holistic approach connecting spiritual practice, nutritional science, and practical dietary guidance represents a complete system for maintaining youthful vitality that integrates ancient wisdom with emerging scientific understanding.

## Suddha Dharma Mandalam
**(Continuation)**
We saw in the preceding article, the Names and Functions of the 32 Great Beings (Siddhas) and how they group in "Avesas" or mediators of certain influences. We will now occupy ourselves with the Dwelling of these exalted Beings, in the Himalayas, uniting thus concepts with what, under other denominations, has been made known to the world, about this Hierarchy and its branches of various aspects. The word **"Kalachakra"** may serve as guide, —among others— to those who already know something about the spiritual government of the World and about the Era of the Vibration, of Aquarius, of Agniyoga, of Shambala and of the Suddha Dharma.
## THE DWELLING
**In the Himalayas, the enormous mountain chain that extends toward the north of India, mansion of the Vedas and other sacred writings, is situated a region known by the name of Badari Vana.** This region, which is the seat of the Hierarchy of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam, although in its ensemble known as Badari Vana, consists of three different parts, called: **UTTARA** (north) **BADARI, VISALA BADARI** and **DAKSHINA** (south) **BADARI.**
### Dakshina Badari - The Accessible Temple
**Of these, the South or Dakshina Badari, is composed of the temple or Badari Nath and the suburbs, place situated in the district of Garhwal of the United Provinces of India.** The temple of Badari Nath is situated on the peak of the same name, in the Himalayas, about 23,000 feet (about 7 thousand meters) above sea level. **This is a place of pilgrimage and it is perfectly possible for any person to arrive there, independently of their spiritual advancement.**
### Visala Badari - Dwelling of the Siddhas
**In direction to the west of Dakshina Badari, but distant from there, is situated Visala Badari, the mansion of the Siddhas, Mahatmas and other adepts. No one obtains permission to enter that place, nor is anyone capable of tracing their way, unless they have advanced spiritually and are, in opinion of the Elder Brothers, worthy of such admission.**
No one obtains permission to enter that place, nor is anyone capable of tracing their way, unless they have advanced spiritually and are, in opinion of the Elder Brothers, worthy of such admission.**
### Uttara Badari - The Supreme Residence
**Uttara Badari is situated to the north of Dakshina Badari and is the place where dwells in his own form Lord Náráyana, Supreme Head of the Hierarchy.** This place is also known as Adi Badari and Yoga Badari, and entry to this august residence is extremely difficult and only the Siddhas and those who have reached the state of Mahatma, manage to be admitted to it.
### The Sacred Lake Kusumakara
**Another feature of this region of Badari Vana is the existence of an enormous lake of fresh water, known by the name of Kusumakara.** The shores of this lake are the meeting point of many Siddhas, and in a lotus that has sprouted in the waters of Kusumakara, stands Sri Yogadevi, radiant and powerful, with the yogadanda, or yoga staff, in her hand.
**Seated under a banyan, on the shores of the lake, is the great expositor known as Hamsayogi.**
The name of "Hamsa" designates the office, so that anyone who has the office, is known as a Hamsayogi. There have been many advanced beings who have had the office and are alluded to, as Prachina Hamsas, or Past Hamsas. **The duty of the Hamsa Yogi, is to interpret the rules of conduct and other truths of the sacred literature, to those who so desire. They carry out their work, being inspired by Sri Yoga Devi, who is the Executor of the divine will of Bhagavan Náráyana.**
### The Triangular Configuration
**These three distinct parts of the Badari Vana are situated in such manner that they form roughly an equilateral triangle, whose apex is at Visala Badari, which is situated toward the west of the basic line that runs from north to south.** This region consists of five villages: **Bráhmala, Sankhala, Pámala, Kalápa and Sambala.**
The Ashramas of Lord Náráyana, of Nara, Yoga Devi, Dakshinamurti, and the Kumaras, are situated between the two villages of Bráhmala and Sankhala, of which the northern part, or Uttara Badari, is composed.
**The region of Visala Badari consists in the village of Pámala.** In it dwell the thirty-two great Siddhas, and it is in this region where the annual celebration of the Full Moon of Vaisakh is made, when the hierarchs of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam invoke blessings upon the world. During such celebrations, **Lord Náráyana and others who are in Uttara Badari, are present and influence one or another of the various Siddhas.**
**The Dakshina Badari consists in the other two villages Kalápa and Sambala; and in confines of these two villages, known by the name of Chandra Sringa on the shores of the Ganges, is placed the statue of Lord Náráyana to receive the adoration of the people.** This is the temple of Bradinath, situated on the peak of the same name, on the shores Alaknanda, one of the principal tributaries of the Ganges.
## THE SPIRITUAL OFFICIALS
**There are present in each village, eight officials: The King, the librarian, the physician, the astrologer and the astronomer, the expositor of the secrets of all the Sastras, the initiator in the mysteries of the Dharma, the master of the rites, and the priest.** These offices are performed by persons who, through their own and diligent efforts, elevated themselves to become Siddhas and Mahatmas.
### The Officials According to Villages:
**Village of Bráhmala:** Janaka, Hayagriva, Dhanvantra, Devalaka, Vespati, Vashista, Kamalaksha and Vyasa.
**Village of Sankhala:** Dami, Markandeva, Nagarjuna, Somatirtha (born of a family of workers in metals), Maithreya, Bhadraketu, Dakshi and Dravida.
**Village of Pámala:** Bhadrasena, Rudradatta, Bharadvaja, Konkana, Pingala, Svetaketu, Jaimini, Bhujamga.
**Village of Kalápa:** Maruta, Asvathama, Kalayasa, Nila, Syonaka (Vysia), Dharmaketu, Bhismatta and Kumbhayoni.
**Village of Sambala:** Devapi, Sambuka, Palayana, Bradbhanu (of Chandala lineage), Hamsa Yogi, Vamadeva, Kalpakara and Chandrasekara.
## SYNTHESIS AND FINAL TEACHING
**We will synthesize what has been exposed in the last articles, asking the Disciples —and Readers in general— to consider that the beneficent influence of The Hierarchy, manifests, then, by its own constitution, in the most diverse forms and that every person who follows the path with the firmness, purity and devotion indispensable, will be, with all certainty, inspired by that one or those of the Exalted Beings that we have named, in the modality that their personal characteristics "permit and require" (it is all one) and that, thus, then, the student of scientific, philosophical, religious, mystical tendency, or of any other that one wishes to imagine, can receive, in addition to the support for their spiritual development and WITHIN the same, the particular inspirations that, about all the matters that constitute the total wisdom, can constantly radiate the Gurus of all the Steps of the Sacred Hierarchy.**
**For this reason it is said that, for those who surrender without reserves to providential direction, nothing is impossible and they will go on receiving everything, provided that their real and unique finality is to collaborate so that:**
**ALL BEINGS BE HAPPY.**

**Historical Analysis:** This systematic exposition represents the most complete documentation of Eastern spiritual geography and organization available in Western esoteric literature. The precise geographical description of the three Badari regions forming "roughly an equilateral triangle" with specific locations, elevations (23,000 feet for Badari Nath temple), and administrative divisions demonstrates the extraordinary sophistication of traditional spiritual organization.
The precise geographical description of the three Badari regions forming "roughly an equilateral triangle" with specific locations, elevations (23,000 feet for Badari Nath temple), and administrative divisions demonstrates the extraordinary sophistication of traditional spiritual organization.
The recognition that **Dakshina Badari** remains accessible "to any person...independently of their spiritual advancement" while **Visala Badari** requires spiritual worthiness as judged by "Elder Brothers" and **Uttara Badari** admits only "Siddhas and those who have reached the state of Mahatma" shows how authentic spiritual hierarchy operates through graduated levels of access based on actual attainment rather than mere intellectual understanding or social position.
The systematic enumeration of eight officials in each of the five villages—**King, librarian, physician, astrologer and astronomer, expositor of Sastras, initiator in Dharma mysteries, master of rites, and priest**—with specific names for all forty positions demonstrates how traditional spiritual administration integrates temporal governance, knowledge preservation, healing, cosmic science, scriptural interpretation, initiation authority, ceremonial expertise, and devotional practice into complete organizational frameworks.
Most significantly, the teaching that students of any tendency—"scientific, philosophical, religious, mystical, or of any other"—can receive appropriate inspiration from "the Gurus of all the Steps of the Sacred Hierarchy" in the modality their "personal characteristics permit and require" demonstrates how authentic spiritual teaching adapts to individual temperament and capacity while maintaining universal principles. The recognition that surrender to "providential direction" enables receiving "everything" provided the "real and unique finality is to collaborate so that ALL BEINGS BE HAPPY" shows how genuine spiritual attainment naturally expresses itself through universal service rather than personal aggrandizement.
The connection to **Kalachakra, Aquarius, Agniyoga, and Shambala** demonstrates how this teaching relates to other known descriptions of planetary spiritual government, providing a complete framework for understanding how diverse traditions describe the same essential spiritual hierarchy operating through different cultural expressions and historical periods.
# Document 147: Mechanical Vibrations and the Organization of Matter - Hermetic Principles in Action
**Translation from [translate:La Iniciación] Vol. 3 No. 32, December 1944**
**By Pitágoras, S∴I∴**
## Cosmic Influences and Reactions of Living Beings
### Direct Mechanical Actions and Mechanical Vibrations of Bodies
To be able to understand well what mechanical vibrations of bodies are, before occupying ourselves with their influence on living beings, it is necessary to give some very simple examples.
## Basic Principles of Mechanical Vibration
## Basic Principles of Mechanical Vibration
**If we deviate from the vertical position a mass suspended from a thread, we see that this mass, once the force that had deviated it from its primitive position of equilibrium ceases, returns to the vertical position, surpasses it to reach a point in space exactly opposite to that from which it had begun the movement, then, returns to the vertical position, surpasses it, and so on successively.** We obtain, as can be seen, the well-known pendular movement that would be perpetual if air resistance did not come to attenuate little by little, the amplitude of oscillations.
**Exactly the same happens if we deviate from its position of vertical equilibrium the free extremity of an elastic rod whose other extremity is fixed at any point.** We see that this rod also presents an oscillatory movement whose oscillations are much more rapid than those of the pendular movement aforementioned, that is, they are much more frequent. Also in this case, the vibrations would be perpetual if air resistance did not dampen them little by little.
**These two examples allow us to verify experimentally how oscillations or mechanical vibrations are produced in a gaseous medium like air.**
## Propagation Through Different Media
**In a liquid medium, like water, exactly the same happens.** In effect, we all know that, if we throw a stone into water, we immediately see formed on the surface and concentrically to the point where the stone fell, a series of waves that go each time farther away toward the periphery and that would continue their propagation infinitely if the resistance opposed by the liquid mass did not dampen them little by little until making them disappear.
**This simple experiment allows us to verify that the propagation of mechanical vibrations takes place, in a liquid medium, exactly as in a gaseous medium.**
**If we place, finally, a series of coins side by side on the surface of a table, so that they touch by their circumference, and we impress, maintaining fixed all the intermediate coins except the last, a blow to one of the extremities of the row of coins, we see that the one found at the other extremity, moves away losing contact with the coin that was at its side.**
**This last experiment shows us that, also in a solid medium vibrations are transmitted exactly as in gaseous and liquid media, transmitting through all the intermediate coins.** The last coin that, upon receiving the blow, has moved away, would have continued its movement if friction and air resistance had not stopped it.
## Universal Principle of Vibration
**All these very simple and known experiments show us that vibrations or mechanical oscillations are transmitted through matter, whether this is found in gaseous state, whether it is found in liquid, solid and etheric states.**
Now well, **those vibrations propagate with a velocity or frequency different, according to the density of matter.**
## Sensory Perception of Vibrations
**The manner of how those vibrations impress our sensory organs and, consequently, have knowledge of them, is different according to the frequency of those vibrations, that is, according to the number of their oscillations per second.** Thus for example, in the case of the rod that oscillates in air, its vibrations are exclusively visible if the number of vibrations is comprised between 16 and 32 per second and can be heard, that is, transformed into sounds, if the number of those vibrations increases.
**If they increase until surpassing the limit of frequencies up to which our ear can perceive them, then we will hear nothing more.** In what refers to hearing, we have, then, a series of vibrations or sounds not perceptible by their low frequency or infra-sounds, a series of vibrations or sounds perceptible by their intermediate frequency, that is, capable of impressing the ear and a series of vibrations or sounds not perceptible by their high frequency or ultra-sounds.
**The same can be said referring to touch, since there can be vibrations that are neither visible nor audible and can only be perceived by touch.**
**Our sensory organs are constructed, consequently, in such manner that some vibrations not perceptible by some can be so by others, that all can perceive them at once and even none.**
## Effects on Different Kingdoms
**The effects of mechanical vibrations are extremely variable according to whether they act on minerals, vegetables or animals, according to their frequency and many other factors that can intervene in propagation, such as for example friction, barometric pressure, hygroscopic state of air, density of the various bodies that receive them, etc.**
### MINERALS
**We all know the so-called Ripple-Marks, that is, those traces that mechanical vibrations of sea waves, acting on sand, imprint on it presenting in form similar to desert dunes.**
**We also know that vibrations of a rod provoke, in the same manner as traction on the same, an elongation that can reach until rupture.** The well-known case of troops on march that must break the rhythm of the same, when walking on suspension bridges, to avoid their rupture is very known. Unfortunately the ignorance of this law, has caused misfortunes like for example those provoked by the ruptures of the bridges of Manchester and Angers.
**The same happens with ships of which each one cannot surpass a certain velocity, since they begin to vibrate with their increase and one can arrive at the production of ruptures if a certain extreme velocity is reached.**
### The Hermetic Revelation
**The same happens with ships of which each one cannot surpass a certain velocity, since they begin to vibrate with their increase and one can arrive at the production of ruptures if a certain extreme velocity is reached.**
### The Hermetic Revelation
**Also known, finally, are those beautiful symmetric figures that are formed with dust or sand placed on a vibrating sheet.** These figures give us the demonstration that **matter receives its organization, takes form, by passively obeying the action of energy that, in turn is directed in a determined sense by something unknown. It is this invisible something, then, that becomes visible in the beautiful geometric drawings by acting on matter through energy.** Once again we find the opportunity to verify how true is the ancient saying of Hermes: **"The visible is the manifestation of the invisible."**
### Scientific Validation
**And, that those beautiful figures are not due to air whirlwinds that would form in the proximities of the vibrating sheet, as Faraday believed, is demonstrated by a decisive experience of Albert Mary, who has obtained very characteristic agglomerations of carbon dust suspended in a liquid contained in a glass tube to which he had impressed vibrations by rubbing it with a rag soaked in vinegar.** In this case, as can be seen, it is not possible to attribute the carbon formations to vibrations impressed by air whirlwinds.
**Albert Mary, on the other hand, has obtained images extremely identical to those of cellular structures employing a mixture of talc powder with very subtle and colored chalk powder arranged on a plate to which he impressed 600 vibrations per second.** Is this not another proof that matter organizes according to certain directions through the action that energy operates upon it? Is this not a proof that living forms are the visible manifestation of spirit that has acted upon matter through "life"?
## The Universal Rhythm
**It is that, in truth, in Nature, everything vibrates, everything is in movement, everything obeys a determined rhythm, from the electronic movements of the atom to planetary movements. Everything lives. And this so that everything transforms, so that everything evolves.**
**The ancients knew it very well and, to cite only one of them, had not Heraclitus, the precursor of modern physicists, said that ether "has no other reason for being than to give a subject to the verb vibrate"?**
### VEGETABLES
**Already the ancient observations of Sachs had demonstrated that each node, in a stem, should be considered as a point of null growth and that the maximum growth existed, in the stem, at a point equidistant from the nodes.** Later George Bohn, continuing Sachs's experiences, arrived at the same affirmations and to declare, in 1920, that every organized being is a **"vibrating system."**
**Albert Mary, finally, attributes to the influence of mechanical vibrations on plants, many variations that are observed in them.**
He, in effect, wrote:
**"If there is produced, by means of external contact, a node at a conveniently chosen point of a stem in longitudinal vibration, symmetrical nodes then manifest in various points of the stem and convexities in the intervals.**
**"Vegetable stems in the process of growth respond strictly to this physical law according to the results that I have observed on young cultivations of Phaseolus vulgaris, that already carried their cotyledons.**
**"In the longitudinal organization of the plant everything proceeds from a tendency to metamerization, by the effect of axial vibrations, just as in lateral structuration, everything obeys, from ramification to the course of fibers, to a dichotomous action of transversal vibration imposed directly on the vegetable by telluric whirlwinds."**
**(Ends in next number)**
---
**Historical Analysis:** This systematic exposition represents groundbreaking work in understanding how mechanical vibrations organize matter according to universal principles, bridging ancient Hermetic wisdom with emerging scientific understanding. The recognition that **"matter receives its organization, takes form, by passively obeying the action of energy that, in turn is directed in a determined sense by something unknown"** provides profound insight into how consciousness directs energy to organize matter through vibrational patterns.
The validation of Hermes's teaching that **"The visible is the manifestation of the invisible"** through Albert Mary's controlled experiments with carbon dust in liquid and talc powder creating "images extremely identical to those of cellular structures" demonstrates how ancient wisdom anticipates modern discoveries in cymatics and vibrational organizing principles by decades.
The systematic progression from simple pendular movement through wave propagation in different media to complex pattern formation shows how universal principles operate at all levels of manifestation. The recognition that vibrations can be "infra-sounds," "audible," or "ultra-sounds" with different effects on various sensory organs anticipates modern understanding of frequency spectra and their biological effects.
Most significantly, the teaching that **"everything vibrates, everything is in movement, everything obeys a determined rhythm, from the electronic movements of the atom to planetary movements"** and **"Everything lives. And this so that everything transforms, so that everything evolves"** demonstrates complete understanding of how universal vibrational principles drive evolutionary development. The reference to **Heraclitus** as "precursor of modern physicists" saying that ether exists "to give a subject to the verb vibrate" shows how ancient philosophical understanding often anticipates scientific discoveries.
The reference to **Heraclitus** as "precursor of modern physicists" saying that ether exists "to give a subject to the verb vibrate" shows how ancient philosophical understanding often anticipates scientific discoveries.
The systematic analysis of how vibrations affect plant growth through "axial vibrations" causing "metamerization" and "transversal vibration imposed directly on the vegetable by telluric whirlwinds" anticipates modern understanding of how environmental energy fields influence biological development, providing foundation for understanding how subtle energies affect living systems through specific vibrational patterns rather than mere chemical or mechanical forces.

## The Miracle¹
*"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than ever our Philosophy has dreamed."*
**Shakespeare - Hamlet**
We were in the first days of August and of a terribly hot August. Every good Milanese knows what summer in the city means and, if he can, chooses just the first week of the most feared month, to go to the mountains or the sea, or embark for a beautiful trip to the Orient or to the North Cape.
## The Unexpected Call
That year I was very tired, too tired and for that reason I had prepared a beautiful itinerary for a vacation trip to Vienna and Budapest. The suitcases were already prepared and the day of departure was also fixed when, behold, the good friend Vittadini calls me on the telephone, a dear colleague and important personage in the Catholic environment and in the clerical party. I never could have guessed the motive of his request. **He wanted simply to send me to Lourdes, in his place, as doctor of the great Italian pilgrimage.**
The departure was fixed for the next day. He had learned, at the last moment, that a very dear sister of his had suddenly become ill and that is why, not wanting in any way to abandon her, he had begun the search for a substitute, possibly an expert sanitary, even if he were a surgeon.
— But, I was supposed to leave for Vienna and Budapest...
— It doesn't matter. To Vienna and Budapest you will go another year. This time you go to Lourdes, you travel like a prince, you don't spend a cent and you follow a magnificent itinerary: Riviera, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse, high Pyrenees... and, then, following, or rather, accompanying the pilgrimage, you will see very interesting things...
## The Departure
Two days later I was in Ventimiglia, meeting place of the pilgrims and where the railway for Lourdes awaited us. I presented myself, at the railway station, to the Organizing Committee and entered into the performance of my charge.
## The Departure
Two days later I was in Ventimiglia, meeting place of the pilgrims and where the railway for Lourdes awaited us. I presented myself, at the railway station, to the Organizing Committee and entered into the performance of my charge.
At my disposition were two first-class compartments, two communicating coupés, of which one was destined for pharmacy and eventual medications and emergency aid. Everything seemed well prepared to me and with abundance.
Before departure I would have liked to know my pilgrims, but I realized then that it was not possible. **A hubbub of people awaited departure with the evident preoccupation, at that moment, not now of presenting themselves to the doctor, but of occupying a good place on the train. It was a hubbub of people in orgasm: priests and laypeople, men, women, pillows, blankets, wheelchairs, clothing.**
"Well, —I thought— I will know my flock during the trip since we had to spend so much time on the train and the cars are intercommunicating." Not all, on the other hand, had need of the doctor's vigilance. **There were many in perfect health. Others, on the contrary, visibly sick, moved with great difficulty or made known, by their pale and exhausted faces, by their tired and afflicted expression, the secret of their internal weaknesses.**
## First Observations
**Already at first sight I noted the profiles of emaciated faces and the inflamed cheeks of the tubercular, of those sick with specific osteitides, of spondylitics.**
**On a stretcher was extended a paralytic; a paraplegic with flaccid and dead legs; on a wheelchair waited a hydropic, with enormous belly, badly hidden by the blankets a cirrhotic, probably liver sick, with emaciated, almost cadaverous face and with large painful eyes.** Discouraged, on a small bench was a poor man with bandaged head and neck wrapped in a great black scarf; he had cancer on the cheek, the face was already destroyed, in part, by the tumor, so that it had become monstrous and had to be bandaged to not provoke repugnance; the neck, besides was swollen by glandular blockages and also had to be hidden by the scarf due to its repugnant deformity.
## The Blind Young Woman
**A little farther, seated on another small bench, a singular couple called my attention. They were a man and woman of very modest conditions, both young, evidently husband and wife.** He held her by the arm observing her lovingly and, almost as if comforting her, spoke to her with tenderness. She had a tired but resigned face, the eyes were very soft, cerulean... but extinguished.
**She was blind.** Married since a year before, she had been attacked, during pregnancy, by a grave disease of the optic nerve and had lost sight completely. The child had been born beautiful and robust, but she had not seen him nor would be able to see him for all her life as she would not be able to see the others that might be born to her, because the disease had been judged by all incurable.
The child had been born beautiful and robust, but she had not seen him nor would be able to see him for all her life as she would not be able to see the others that might be born to her, because the disease had been judged by all incurable.
However, **her maternal soul had not lost hope.** Having expressed the desire to go to Lourdes to implore from the Mother of Jesus the grace of being able to see her children, the husband, who was a poor railway guard, had begun to gather a little money for the trip expenses; to complete the necessary sum the pilgrimage committee had provided and, thus, they had both departed and, now, they were on the small bench, embraced, awaiting the train's departure.
**I looked moved, at that beautiful and youthful face, those cerulean eyes full of sweetness, accommodated to the infinite and lacking light...** Would the Virgin have performed the miracle? To me it seemed that yes, because She had seen her Child well and would not have been able to deny such a grace to that unfortunate being so trusting and good.
## The Journey Begins
But, behold a clamor of wheels and tools. Everyone stirs for the train's arrival, then everyone hurries to get on and occupy the best seats. I lodge in my car and almost feel a little ashamed for being so privileged, with all that space and that equipment at my disposition.
We depart, just at three o'clock. Before nightfall we will arrive in Marseille where we will sleep in the hotel. **The convoy runs along the Cote d'Azur without ever stopping, almost as if it did not want to stop in those places of profane delights, so distant are they from the holy end of the trip.** I see charming Mentone among the palms and olives. The villas and gardens, the hills and sea of those corners of leisure and pleasure contrast singularly with the miseries of the train.
## The Sacred Contrast
**While passing through Montecarlo, the pilgrims intone the litanies of the Blessed Virgin; from my car I hear the sacred nenias and invocations of the sick:**
**Mater amabilis**
**Mater admirabili...**
**I listen as if dreaming to the humble chant that rises and is lost in the atmosphere of the Casino and of the Palace-Hotels. What a contrast!, between the train of sufferers and that Garden of Armida, nest of worldly ones, cave of pleasure and impurity.**
After Monaco, Nice; then Antibes and Cannes... and the train continues its run while the sun declines in the hot and limpid August afternoon; and, in the first hours of night, the nenias of sacred songs continue to rise.
## Seeking Company
**Little by little I begin to feel too alone in my empty car; I would like to speak with someone and I seek to look around listening.** In the car anterior to mine there is a company of religious, magnates of the pilgrimage. His Eminence the Archbishop of Genoa with all his court. They are speaking of sacred things; discourse for me too elevated, reason for which I change direction to explore in the opposite part.
His Eminence the Archbishop of Genoa with all his court. They are speaking of sacred things; discourse for me too elevated, reason for which I change direction to explore in the opposite part.
Here the scene changes. I hear a twitter of feminine and infantile voices in an environment more lively than the other: I push resolutely the communication door and present myself.
**As doctor of the pilgrimage I am an authority and I find no difficulty in starting the conversation a little.** There are there two or three Genoese families who have wanted to join together for a trip of devotion... and also of pleasure. Of sick I see absolutely none.
## The Prosperous Pilgrims
**The most distinguished lady is the wife of a known deputy of a college of Genoa, very influential person in the Catholic party.** She accompanies her two boys to Lourdes because (she tells me) her husband likes the young to travel and be instructed. That was a good occasion to do good and have fun spending little. In sum, a good combination to unite utile dulci.
In the same first-class car, there was another lady, sister of the first who accompanied in turn her daughter, a girl of thirteen years. To complete the amiable company there was not lacking a gracious young lady who was presented to me as the sister of a lawyer from Genoa who was also on the train, but, as member of the committee, traveled with the chiefs and organizers of the pilgrimage.
**I don't know what graces those good people were going to invoke at Lourdes, because, more flourishing and healthy people, richer and happier, was not easy to imagine. Good Genoese, full of all abundance and also of holy fear of God and, on the other hand, excellent companions; they abbreviated the hours of travel for me and made it pleasant.** Perhaps the only one of the company who to the Virgin of Lourdes should ask a grace, was the blonde and sentimental young lady; a grace that most young ladies implore and hope: that of a good husband.
## Arrival in Marseille
A little before midnight we arrived in Marseille where we had to sleep. The following morning was dedicated to a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Guard. Meanwhile I had to take note of the sick, know them, gather their histories in a more or less exact manner, make the cures and eventual medications.
Fortunately there were none very grave and also those who presented serious diseases, had supported the discomfort of the trip very well. **I ordered that during the night and the following morning they be maintained in absolute rest and I took care that nothing was lacking.**
The departure was fixed for the next day at noon and, at the established hour, all were gathered under the shed of the station; no one was missing.

¹ This extraordinary account translated from Italian by Brother Pitágoras, has been extracted from the book by the celebrated Italian surgeon Andrea Majocchi "Vita di Chirurgo," Milano, Ed. Treves, 11th edition. (Editorial Note).
---
**Historical Analysis:** This compelling medical testimony represents one of the most authentic accounts of how scientific skepticism can gradually open to recognition of miraculous possibilities through direct experience rather than mere theoretical consideration. Dr. Andrea Majocchi's detailed observations as a surgical specialist provide credible witness to the phenomena surrounding religious pilgrimage and potential healing.
The systematic contrast between the "profane delights" of the Riviera and the "sacred nenias" of the pilgrims demonstrates the profound cultural tension between materialism and spirituality that characterizes modern civilization. The image of sacred chants rising "in the atmosphere of the Casino and of the Palace-Hotels" provides powerful metaphor for how authentic spiritual aspiration exists alongside worldly pleasure-seeking.
The detailed medical observations—paralytic on stretcher, paraplegic with "flaccid and dead legs," hydropic with "enormous belly," cirrhotic with "emaciated, almost cadaverous face," cancer patient with face "destroyed by tumor"—demonstrate Dr. Majocchi's clinical expertise and provide credible foundation for evaluating any subsequent healing phenomena. This medical precision prevents dismissing potential miracles as mere suggestion or misdiagnosis.
Most significantly, the portrait of the blind young railway guard's wife who "had not lost hope" of seeing her children demonstrates how authentic faith operates through maternal love and natural human desire rather than abstract theological speculation. The doctor's own reaction—"Would the Virgin have performed the miracle? To me it seemed that yes"—shows how witnessing genuine devotion can affect even skeptical scientific minds.
The systematic documentation of both genuinely sick pilgrims and prosperous "Genoese families" seeking devotional travel experiences provides balanced perspective on religious pilgrimage, acknowledging both authentic spiritual seeking and conventional religious tourism. This nuanced observation establishes Dr. Majocchi as a reliable witness capable of distinguishing between different types of religious motivation and experience.

## Continuing the Journey
**I passed in review the sick who were entrusted to me: sad review of tubercular, osteitic and arthritic, spondylitic, chest sick, cancerous and neuropathic.** The paralytic was always on the stretcher with flaccid and dead legs, the ascitic was pushed on his wheelchair with his enormous belly covered with shawls, farther back a choreic boy that I had not seen the day before was contorting in the strange movements of Saint Vitus's dance, not far away an unfortunate affected by agitating paralysis made his hands tremble as if he could not have peace and rest. **Enormous horrors gathered in that small space on the railway platform.**
The nice and ample train welcomed them all and carried all at great speed toward the desired goal: toward hope of miracle, toward light of salvation.
## The Long Journey
**This time the route was long.** We had to eat on the train and remain in it all night. The following morning we had arrived at Toulouse, then at Tarbes and at noon, finally, at Lourdes.
**It was very tiring for the poor sick.** I had, however, to verify that no one fainted, no one complained, even the most grave were sustained by hope, by the desire to arrive, by confidence.
At Nîmes the sun set and night fell. From my place I heard the intonation of the Ave Maria and evening prayers and, then, the chant of the Litanies returned to caress my ear:
**Mater amabilis**
**Mater admirabili...**
Then nothing more. Silence established itself in all the cars; the train continued its run without songs, without choruses, without prayers.
**I lay down on my seat and tried to rest, without managing to sleep...**
## Reflections on Miracles
**Would we effectively see some miracles? Was it possible?** In truth, the good priest of the pilgrimage had wisely warned the faithful not to expect many miracles. It was true that the previous year miraculous cures had been verified. Some paralytics had moved and had walked, some mutes had spoken, extensive wounds had healed... **But, what matters (the holy man had said), what is indispensable is to present oneself to the Great Mother with confident spirit, with absolute faith, that which transports mountains, which enraptures martyrs and sustains them even before the most refined torments.**
**One had to believe and not doubt. If the cure was achieved, much better; it was the sign that the Great Mother of God had taken pity on a suffering body. But, if the body remained sick, this could be for the good of the soul.** And, in all cases, to whoever implored Her with confidence, the Holy Mother would have donated the sweet balm of comfort and resignation...
But, if the body remained sick, this could be for the good of the soul.** And, in all cases, to whoever implored Her with confidence, the Holy Mother would have donated the sweet balm of comfort and resignation...
...Thus had spoken the holy man and his words still resonated in my ear, penetrated to the depths of my heart because they had been said with simplicity but with that enthusiasm that teaches the most persuasive eloquence.
**Convictions, on the other hand, that admit no reply.**
**In matters of Faith one does not discuss.**
**(To be completed in next number)**
---
**Historical Analysis:** This continuation of Dr. Majocchi's testimony deepens the medical documentation while revealing the gradual transformation of scientific skepticism through direct encounter with authentic faith. The systematic enumeration of conditions—"tubercular, osteitic and arthritic, spondylitic, chest sick, cancerous and neuropathic"—maintains clinical precision while acknowledging the "enormous horrors" of human suffering that motivate spiritual seeking.
The observation that despite extreme physical difficulties, "no one fainted, no one complained, even the most grave were sustained by hope, by the desire to arrive, by confidence" demonstrates how authentic spiritual aspiration can transcend ordinary physical limitations. This medical witness to the sustaining power of genuine faith provides scientific validation of spiritual principles rather than mere religious sentiment.
Most significantly, the priest's teaching that miracles require "absolute faith, that which transports mountains" while acknowledging that if "the body remained sick, this could be for the good of the soul" demonstrates mature spiritual understanding that transcends mere physical healing. The recognition that the "Holy Mother would donate the sweet balm of comfort and resignation" to all who approach with genuine confidence shows how authentic spiritual experience provides benefit regardless of specific physical outcomes.
Dr. Majocchi's internal struggle—"Would we effectively see some miracles? Was it possible?"—combined with his inability to sleep and deep reflection on the priest's words, shows how direct encounter with authentic devotion challenges purely materialistic worldviews. The recognition that "in matters of Faith one does not discuss" represents not anti-intellectual sentiment but acknowledgment that spiritual reality operates according to different principles than mere rational analysis.
The systematic contrast between the sacred singing during daylight hours and the profound silence that falls at night suggests how spiritual aspiration intensifies as pilgrims approach their destination, moving from communal expression toward internal preparation for potential divine encounter. This natural rhythm demonstrates how authentic pilgrimage involves both collective devotion and individual spiritual readiness.

### Historical Significance of December 1944:
This issue represents profound synthesis of historical scholarship, scientific research, and spiritual testimony during World War II's European conclusion:
- **Battle of the Bulge Context:** Published during Germany's final major offensive (December 16-25), demonstrating spiritual work's continuity during military crisis
- **Year-End Synthesis:** Comprehensive integration of historical documentation, scientific research, and mystical testimony as humanity's darkest period approaches resolution
- **Authentic Testimony Integration:** Dr. Majocchi's medical witness provides compelling evidence for miraculous possibility from credible scientific perspective
- **Complete Documentation Achievement:** The systematic recording of Martinism's precise chronology represents unprecedented historical scholarship
### Revolutionary Historical Contributions:
**Unprecedented Martinist Documentation:** Pitágoras's chronological research represents the most precise account of Martinism's formative period available in any literature:
- **Specific Date Precision:** Systematic recording from March 21, 1767 (Sovereign Tribunal constitution) through September 20, 1774 (Martines's death) with exact dates for all major events
- **Personal Detail Documentation:** Marriage to Margarita Angélica Collas (August 27, 1767), son Jean Jacques Philippe's birth and disappearance in French Revolution, Saint Martin's military service abandonment
- **Administrative Evolution:** Detailed account of Order expansion despite Du Guers's destructive influence, Saint Martin's secretaryship beginning true organizational work
- **Mystical Death Documentation:** Extraordinary account of Martines's simultaneous death vision by his wife in Bordeaux—"saw him cross the room diagonally from East to West"
**Extraordinary Astrological Validation:** The Vatican discovery of Jesus's physical description provides remarkable historical-astrological correlation:
- **Authentic Historical Documentation:** Proconsul Publius Lentulus's "police report" describing Jesus with "long blonde hair," "light blue eyes," "normal constitution and erect body"
- **Perfect Astrological Correspondence:** Description matches traditional Libra ascendant characteristics exactly as detailed in the systematic analysis
- **Scientific Historical Validation:** Recognition that "Jesus had Libra (1° 26') as ascendant" demonstrates how ancient wisdom traditions preserved accurate astrological information about historical figures
- **Cross-Traditional Verification:** Biblical correlation with patriarch Dan—"Dan will judge his people"—showing scriptural-astrological synthesis
**Complete Spiritual Geography:** The systematic documentation of Badari Vana represents unprecedented access to Eastern spiritual organization:
- **Precise Geographical Description:** Three regions forming "equilateral triangle" with specific elevations (23,000 feet for Badari Nath temple) and administrative divisions
- **Graduated Access Levels:** Dakshina Badari accessible to all, Visala Badari requiring Elder Brothers' approval, Uttara Badari for Siddhas and Mahatmas only
- **Complete Administrative Documentation:** Eight officials per village (King, librarian, physician, astrologer/astronomer, Sastra expositor, Dharma initiator, rites master, priest) with all forty names specified
- **Universal Service Integration:** Teaching that students of any tendency receive appropriate inspiration "in the modality their personal characteristics permit and require"
### Advanced Scientific Integration:
**Pioneering Nutritional Biochemistry:** Asuri Kapila's research anticipates modern understanding by decades:
- **Copper Catalyzing Function:** Recognition that copper serves as "catalyzing agent" in hair pigmentation rather than direct active ingredient
- **Traditional Wisdom Validation:** Hindu copper utensil usage preventing gray hair and baldness through continuous metal contact
- **Mysterious Bx Vitamin:** Identification of "filtered fraction of B vitamin group" and connection to "para-amino-benzoic acid" (PABA) anticipating folic acid complex discovery
- **Integrative Approach:** Understanding that mysterious agent "can be elaborated by yogic practices, exercises, diet, respiration and mentalizations"
**Revolutionary Physical Science:** Pitágoras's mechanical vibration exposition demonstrates Hermetic principles in action:
- **Universal Vibrational Principle:** Recognition that "everything vibrates, everything is in movement, everything obeys determined rhythm, from electronic movements of atom to planetary movements"
- **Hermetic Validation:** Albert Mary's experiments creating cellular structure patterns through vibration proving "matter receives organization by passively obeying energy action"
- **Ancient Wisdom Anticipation:** Heraclitus teaching that ether exists "to give a subject to the verb vibrate" as "precursor of modern physicists"
- **Biological Application:** Understanding how "axial vibrations" cause plant "metamerization" and "transversal vibration imposed by telluric whirlwinds"
**Comprehensive Astrological Science:** Surya's Libra analysis demonstrates sophisticated mythological-practical integration:
- **Kabbalistic Cosmic Anatomy:** Recognition that Libra represents "kidneys and hips of Great Celestial Man" and "central deposit of reproductive fluids"
- **Psychological Accuracy:** Understanding that Libra natives constitute "rationalist school" defending "universal fraternity" theoretically but rarely acting practically
- **Biblical Integration:** Systematic correlation with Dan—"will judge his people as one of tribes of Israel"—showing scriptural-astrological correspondence
- **Fixed Star Integration:** Detailed analysis including Spica and Arcturus effects demonstrating astronomical foundation underlying traditional interpretation
### Compelling Medical Testimony:
**Authentic Scientific Witness:** Dr. Andrea Majocchi's account provides credible medical perspective on miraculous possibility:
- **Clinical Precision:** Detailed documentation of specific conditions—paralytic, paraplegic, hydropic, cirrhotic, cancerous—with exact medical descriptions
- **Balanced Observation:** Recognition of both genuinely sick pilgrims seeking healing and prosperous families pursuing devotional tourism
- **Gradual Transformation:** Systematic account of how direct encounter with authentic faith challenges purely materialistic worldview
- **Professional Credibility:** Celebrated Italian surgeon's testimony from "Vita di Chirurgo" provides unimpeachable medical authority
