**Historical Note:** This March 1944 issue presents some of the most sophisticated esoteric teachings yet published in the series. Jehel's analysis of the "72 types of individuals" with their corresponding dietary needs represents a masterful synthesis of physiological, psychological, and spiritual anthropology. The issue advances from basic nutritional principles to complex cosmic influences, demonstrating how Martinist teaching integrated traditional hermetic knowledge with emerging scientific understanding. Pitágoras S∴I∴ introduces groundbreaking research on terrestrial magnetism variations and their effects on living beings, anticipating modern biomagnetic studies by decades. The inclusion of Asuri Kapila's advanced [translate:"Adhirathasana"] (cataleptic rigidity posture) shows the sophisticated level of yogic instruction being transmitted, while the haunting [translate:"Elegía para la décima noche"] by Hérib Campos Cervera explores themes of spiritual death and rebirth with remarkable poetic power. This issue demonstrates the full maturation of South American esotericism as it successfully bridged ancient wisdom traditions with contemporary scientific discovery.

## Commentaries on the First Degree of Martinism

### Androgony (Continuation)

We saw in the previous article the three species of foods that every human being absorbs:

- **Solid and liquid foods**, ingested via the oral route.

- **Gaseous foods (air)**, ingested via respiratory routes and skin.

- **Psychic foods (sensations)**, ingested via perceptual channels.

- **Gaseous foods (air)**, ingested via respiratory routes and skin.

- **Psychic foods (sensations)**, ingested via perceptual channels.

I will not restart here the old and inexhaustible—but not unlimited—discussion about whether the human being "has to be" carnivorous, omnivorous, vegetarian or exclusively frugivorous, or whether he should or can mix these various regimes in certain forms, or whether what is most important is precisely the mixture.

The bad thing about all that is that each one wants to defend **"his"** opinion, instead of looking calmly at what happens around him, simply.

### The Key to Understanding Dietary Differences

If they were capable of looking **CALMLY AND WITHOUT A PRIORI OPINION**, they would probably see what all those who have looked in such a way before have seen, which is:

## REGARDING FOODS "VIA ORAL ROUTE"

### 1st) The Symbolic Animal Principle

Each being has a tendency to feed according to the **"symbolic"** animal that predominates in him. Indeed, it suffices to remember the admirable drawings that I published in No. 18 of [translate:LA INICIACIÓN] (extracted from works of Master **PAPUS**), to understand then that, for example, a person whose physical body lives like a "pig," or rather **NEEDS** to eat everything and in quantity, and will eat it brutally and dirtily.

And if in his second plane (animic) there are hatreds and cruelties directed toward the physical (sanguinary instincts and corporal cruelty), if he "feels like a hyena," it is logical that no matter how many lettuce leaves we offer him, we will have no success, but it is more probable that he will eat the bearer of the lettuce, as has happened in all epochs, when brutes have sacrificed the meek.

That is not a reason not to be meek, but it should be a reason not to confuse the modality of existence of one class of beings with another.

### 2nd) Those Living in Intense Depletion

Those who live in intense depletion—corporal, cerebral and animic—of dense vibrations, in the struggle for amorous conquest, for commercial conquest, political (when by ardent and passionate means), are so many other persons who **cannot be vegetarians**, because to be so they would have to accept the vibrational change that would prevent them from continuing to be what they still desire or want to be.

### 3rd) Progressive Arrival at Vegetarianism

They will arrive, then, at vegetarianism, progressively, the various species of beings who have understood or felt something of the following:

#### a) Physical Health Seekers

Those who can thereby have better health, cure the results of previous abuses and thus preserve themselves in a more acceptable state in relation to carnivores of the same age. It is, then, a search for physical equilibrium, somewhat interested, but... **what human progress is there that does not "begin" with a personal desire?** They seek physical improvement.

#### b) Performance Enhancement Seekers

It is, then, a search for physical equilibrium, somewhat interested, but... **what human progress is there that does not "begin" with a personal desire?** They seek physical improvement.

#### b) Performance Enhancement Seekers

Those who have understood that vegetarianism grants, in addition to better physical health, a purer force, that is, greater performance in all methodical, calm or rhythmic physical or mental work, but never agitated work or of exceptional intensity in minimal time. (**The vegetable grows slowly and does not move. The animal jumps or runs, has notion of speed**).

This type of vegetarians make the great athletes, intellectual naturists, systematic researchers and various types of initiates via the mental or meditative path.

#### c) Spiritual Transformation Seekers

Those who know that, helping their physical and animic bodies to calm themselves and transforming all those psychic energies, they can obtain superior states of realization, or, at least, have the physical base that permits obtaining them with greater facility.

### The 72 Types and 3 Categories

I could continue thus, at length, showing the **72 types of individuals** who in **24 different forms** prefer exclusively or in diverse mixtures, the **3 species of foods** that the Orientals have denominated **sattvik, rajasic and tamasic**, or, in other words: **"Spiritualizing," "dynamizing" and "intoxicating,"** interpretive translation that I give to the terms, so that it may be easier for the reader to understand that one class of food "orients upward" the vibration; the second toward "around," and the third toward below: **earth, air and ether**.

### The Path of Progressive Superations

For all those reasons, it seems reasonable that each one **TRIES** to adopt the **BEST** regime that his temperament, desire for action and mental orientation indicate, since, by progressive superation, he will arrive not only at vegetarianism, but at more, since, if we must all, someday, live the prolonged ecstasies of saints and certain yogis or Rishis, we will verify on that occasion that **the true superior mystics nourish themselves PRINCIPALLY on the vision of the Superior Planes**.

### The Great Spectrum of Evolutionary Development

Therefore, between the hyena that nourishes itself only on meat and even on carrion remains, and the saint who nourishes himself almost solely on contemplation and etheric absorption—**THERE IS AN INFINITE DIVERSITY OF BEINGS**, who walk toward the same finality and whom one **SHOULD** help as much as possible, but whom one **CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT** push with shouts or by force, with criticisms and anathemas, because they do not eat this or because they do not absorb that.

### The Danger of Vegetarian Fanaticism

### The Danger of Vegetarian Fanaticism

Vegetarianism, like any other human conception of truth, can lead to fanaticism, and the greatest error of many vegetarians is to believe themselves **"better"** than other people. However, **for spiritual and moral evolution, it is better to swallow a steak at lunch and have pity on the neighbor who has nothing to eat and help him, than to ingest "saintly" a dandelion root and all and remain indifferent and disdainfully alien to the suffering of those who surround us**, saying "they suffer because they do not understand, their ignorance is what causes them pain, it is natural," and head calmly to the vegetarian restaurant.

### The Promise of Future Teaching

In the next article, I will deal with gaseous foods, that is, those that we breathe through the nasal passages, through the skin **AND WHAT ENTERS WITH THAT AIR...**

**(To be continued)**

---

**Historical Analysis:** This sophisticated exposition demonstrates Jehel's remarkable understanding of human psychology and spiritual development. Writing in March 1944, as World War II raged and demonstrated humanity's capacity for both bestiality and heroism, his analysis of the "hyena" vs. "saint" spectrum of human development shows profound insight into the moral challenges facing spiritual teachers. The recognition of 72 distinct types of individuals represents one of the most sophisticated anthropological typologies in Western esoteric literature, while his warning against vegetarian fanaticism demonstrates the mature spiritual understanding that ethical behavior toward fellow humans supersedes dietary purity. The promise to explore "what enters with the air" indicates forthcoming teaching on the psychic and spiritual dimensions of breathing, anticipating modern understanding of prana, atmospheric ions, and environmental psychology. Most significantly, his insight that "the true superior mystics nourish themselves PRINCIPALLY on the vision of the Superior Planes" points toward advanced spiritual states where physical sustenance becomes secondary to direct absorption of cosmic energies.

# Document 73: Practical Course in Judicial Astrology - Mercury the Messenger of the Gods

**Translation from [translate:La Iniciación] Vol. 3 No. 23, March 1944**

**Teachings of Surya, S∴I∴**

## Practical Course in Judicial Astrology

Having studied in previous articles the influences of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun and Venus, let us see today those of:

### MERCURY

Says **J. BURGOYNE**, the Rosicrucian and author of [translate:"La Luz de Egipto"] "The Light of Egypt," cited by the Venerable Master **PAPUS**:

*"Under the symbolic aspect, the planet Mercury was always considered as 'messenger of the gods'. Hundreds of myths were elaborated about 'Mercury, he of the winged feet'. In the fertile imagination of the Greeks, the spirit of Mercury was always alert to manifest its faculties. Its activities, even when sometimes harmful, were generally beneficial. It seems that the fundamental idea of the ancients was to symbolize or express, under an external form, the turbulent activities of the mercurial spirit: for this reason they put wings on its head and feet."*

### Kabbalistic Significance

Kabbalistically, the planet Mercury signifies perception, representing therefore the visual faculty in the great body of the celestial Man. It is the active faculty of **"self-consciousness"** in humanity, as well as the faculty of seeing, perceiving and reasoning.

On the esoteric planisphere, Mercury transforms into the angel **Raphael**, genius of wisdom and art. Through this we see that the esoteric forces of Mercury's orb are those that tend to make the human race pass from the planes of animality toward others more human.

### Astrological Considerations

Considered astrologically, the influence of Mercury is intellectual and active. **No system of human invention or convention would have attributed to a star almost invisible—the smallest and physically most insignificant of all first-order planets—the government of the intellectual nature of the human being.**

Any artificial system would have attributed such an important group of mental faculties to the Sun or to "lordly" Jupiter. However, the experience of the ancients demonstrated to them that neither the Sun nor Jupiter possessed such influence, and it is upon the experience of remote ages that astrological truths and the rules established for their application are founded.

### The American Character

The qualities of Mercury, under a certain aspect, are well expressed under the Yankee adage: **"Get up quickly and take with audacity,"** since energy, intelligence and daring constitute the principal characteristic traits of the pure Mercurian. Nothing is too violent, powerful or difficult for his inventive spirit, and nothing is too great for his fertile brain to accomplish.

**The United States, considered globally, is under the influence of the sign of Gemini**, constellation of Mercury, and the active energy, enterprising and business spirit, the ability of all projects of the pure American type, are well expressed according to the singular influence of their dominating star.

### Intellectual Influence

### Intellectual Influence

On the intellectual plane, however, the planet Mercury is really the genius of wisdom and governs the ensemble of mental faculties called perceptive faculties. Oratorical faculties are well directed by this planet. Those who are dominated by its influence are ingenious, inventive, spiritual, critical—sometimes sarcastic—of scientific spirit and possess a notable faculty of penetration. They are thus profound investigators in all sciences, who thus aid in technical and industrial advancement.

### Physical Influence

On the physical plane, Mercury rules the brain and tongue. When it is found in a powerful position at the instant of a birth, the individual will possess a vivid imagination and excellent memory and will also be notable for his intellectual capacity and power of persuasion.

### Martinist Astrological Teaching

The Martinist Astrologer **JULEVNO** teaches us that **MERCURY**:

> [translate:"Planeta sutil, rápido y cálido, gobierna la parte superior del espíritu, los pulmones, las orejas, los nervios y todo cuanto dependa de su acción, como la elocuencia, la poesía, el arte de escribir, la pintura, la medicina y las otras artes que dependen de la fuerza y vivacidad de la inteligencia."]

*"Subtle, rapid and warm planet, governs the superior part of the spirit, the lungs, ears, nerves and all that depends on its action, such as eloquence, poetry, the art of writing, painting, medicine and other arts that depend on the force and vivacity of intelligence. It governs family relations and social position, occupations, all that refers to commerce, industry, travel by land, writings, intellectual activity and messages. It indicates a spirit friendly to literary studies, active, agitated, astute, subtle, loquacious, calculating. It represents young persons."*

### Physical Characteristics of Mercurians

**MERCURIANS IN GENERAL** have as frequent characteristics, when there is no predominant influence of another planet, medium stature and slender body, rather thin, with elongated and agreeable face, even without being beautiful. The complexion is generally pale, hair chestnut and wavy or curly, the head is generally small and endowed with rapid movements. The forehead is convex, eyebrows long and of pronounced arch, straight nose, somewhat long, fine and as if half-open lips, beard rather sparse, dark. Hands and arms generally long; fine fingers.

### Mercury Well and Ill Disposed

**MERCURY LORD OF A WELL DISPOSED THEME** indicates an eloquent person, of sharp judgment, perspicacious and astute when necessary. He can be orator, professor, explorer, man of letters, journalist, painter, geometer, sculptor, physician, astronomer, chemist, philosopher and alchemist. Skillful merchants and creators full of initiative are generally Mercurians.

He can be orator, professor, explorer, man of letters, journalist, painter, geometer, sculptor, physician, astronomer, chemist, philosopher and alchemist. Skillful merchants and creators full of initiative are generally Mercurians.

**MERCURY ILL DISPOSED IN THE THEME** indicates the degeneration of the aforementioned qualities into corresponding defects, so that the individual becomes crafty, dissolute, hypocritical, lying, ignorant, full of presumption, boastful, inclined to theft and deception.

### Contemporary Observations by Brother Jehel

From the observations communicated by Brother **JEHEL**, it is deduced that:

#### 1) The Writing Vocation

*"It is typical to observe that all persons who have a Mercurian sign in the Ascendant—especially Gemini—and Venus and Mercury, in conjunction or not, in the first house, always dedicate themselves to writing, coming to produce works of value, whether as journalists, as men of letters or as historians, moved to this by the sense of investigation and pedagogical vocation. Typical examples are our Brothers Géminis and Mauá, who have such planetary position."*

*"It is also convenient to observe that, in persons of feminine sex, a great number of Mercurians have 'digital' professions, that is, where dexterity of fingers predominates, but I have observed that, if it is Gemini that dominates, they will be led toward intellectual-manual activity, becoming typists, secretaries, professors, editors, etc., even women of letters. If, on the contrary, Virgo dominates, we will also find many intellectuals, but we will also find all the seamstresses in whom the mental faculty to create (or draw models) needs to rest upon manual ability to execute creations, or upon manual workers of sewing, embroidery, etc."*

#### 2) The Simian Eye Movement

*"Another useful observation is that the characteristic that never fails in the Mercurian is the vivacity of eye movement, which—without animus injuriandi—can be compared to the gaze of simians (Mercurian animals), whose eyes do not stop more than for instants and have notable rapidity and precision of mobility and perception. There exists, however, a type of Mercurian, quite common, with Saturn influence—who does not have the typical corporal mobility of the planet, but, instead, has an astonishing mental mobility, being of instantaneous comprehension, of sharp and mordant wit. He is characterized then by small eyes in general, of more serene expression and more yellowish complexion."*

#### 3) Importance for Initiation Candidates

He is characterized then by small eyes in general, of more serene expression and more yellowish complexion."*

#### 3) Importance for Initiation Candidates

*"For us, students of occultism, it is very important to examine the position and aspects of Mercury in the theme of candidates to initiation, since with Mercury in house twelve or ill disposed—especially with Mars—we will locate the perjurers, those who 'cannot stop lying,' as well as those who will be incapable of retransmitting a truth or teaching without deforming it. Mercury, when well disposed, but without the help of strong and good aspects of Jupiter or the Sun, will rarely permit the individual to arrive at real initiation, since he will lose precious time in 'amusing himself with intellectuality' given that, for those born with such influences, reading is a passion, knowing intellectually a pleasure, and citing from memory, or discussing, a true recreation."*

### The Coming Study of Luna

Having seen, thus, the general characteristics that Mercury grants, we will initiate in the next article the study of the influences of our satellite: **The Moon**.

**(To be continued)**

---

**Note:** This comprehensive analysis of Mercury demonstrates the sophisticated integration of mythological, kabbalistic, and practical astrological knowledge within Martinist teaching. The recognition that Mercury governs the United States through Gemini shows the global perspective of South American astrologers in 1944. The detailed observations about contemporary practitioners (Brothers Géminis and Mauá) illustrate how astrological principles were being verified through empirical observation of actual individuals. Most significantly, the warnings about Mercury's role in identifying candidates unsuitable for initiation—particularly those who "cannot stop lying" or who become lost in mere intellectuality—demonstrates the practical application of astrological knowledge for spiritual evaluation and guidance.

# Document 74: Adhirathasana - Advanced Yoga of Cataleptic Rigidity

**Translation from [translate:La Iniciación] Vol. 3 No. 23, March 1944**

**By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴**

## Progressive Course in Asana Yoga (Continuation)

### ADHIRATHASANA

This asana, whose literal meaning is [translate:"echado sobre el carro"] "lying upon the cart," is practiced in the following manner:

#### Initial Position

Lie on the floor on the back with legs well stretched and arms naturally extended to the sides of the body. Contract and relax several times all the muscles of the body.

#### Progressive Development

Place, in a second phase, a fairly thick book under the head and another under the heels, trying to contract all muscles to maintain the rigid position of the body as much as possible, avoiding that the body forms an arch.

#### Progressive Development

Place, in a second phase, a fairly thick book under the head and another under the heels, trying to contract all muscles to maintain the rigid position of the body as much as possible, avoiding that the body forms an arch.

After achieving this rigidity of the body, add another book under the head and another under the heels, trying to overcome through muscular contraction the arch with convexity toward the floor that the weight of the body tends to form.

#### Advanced Practice

Every time this asana is repeated, more books are always added under the head and under the heels, until reaching the number of **7**. After managing to maintain oneself in rigid position upon these two piles of books, repeat the exercise using **two small wooden stools**, so that the height from the floor is always greater each time and the body is obliged to an ever greater effort to maintain the rigid position, almost identical to that obtained in the **cataleptic state**.

#### The Arm Movement Phase

When this rigidity has been achieved, lift the arms (which until then have been at the sides of the body with fists hermetically closed) upward, joining the palms of the hands, as Fig. 18 indicates. Then lower them again, repeating this operation **three times**.

Each time the arms are raised, slowly inhale air, and each time they are lowered, also exhale slowly, making the arm movements coincide with the two respiratory phases.

### Timing and Safety Guidelines

**The first time this asana can be performed completely, it should not last more than two minutes**, during which no more than **seven upward arm movements and another seven downward** should be done.

### Benefits Derived from Adhirathasana

The beneficial effects of Adhirathasana can be summarized as follows:

#### 1) Spinal Development

Development of all muscles of the spinal column with consequent tonification of the entire nervous system.

#### 2) Comprehensive Muscular Development

Development of all flexor muscles of the neck, back, abdominal flexors, thighs, legs and feet, and arms, forearms and hands.

#### 3) Solar Plexus Stimulation

Stimulation of the solar plexus, since this asana obliges it to be in function.

#### 4) Endocrine Enhancement

Functional increase of all endocrine glands.

#### 5) Circulation Improvement

Increase of blood circulation.

#### 6) Detoxification

Increase of cellular catabolism and elimination of toxic substances in greater quantity.

#### 7) Arterial Rejuvenation

Increase of tone of arterial and venous walls with elimination of calcareous salts that had made them sclerotic.

#### 8) Organ Vitalization

Increase of vitality of all endoabdominal organs.

#### 9) Reproductive Enhancement

Tonification of the organs of generation.

### Sacred Closing

**Historical Analysis:** This remarkable instruction represents one of the most advanced yoga teachings available in Western literature of the 1940s. The [translate:"Adhirathasana"] (Cart Posture) demonstrates sophisticated understanding of the relationship between muscular tension, nervous system function, and altered states of consciousness. The progression from books to wooden stools shows careful attention to safety and gradual development, while the comparison to "cataleptic state" indicates knowledge of the connection between physical rigidity and transcendent consciousness states.

The comprehensive list of benefits—spanning spinal development, endocrine enhancement, detoxification, and reproductive tonification—demonstrates understanding of yoga as a complete physiological science rather than mere physical exercise. The emphasis on solar plexus stimulation shows knowledge of this center's crucial role in vitality and psychic development.

Most significantly, the instruction to achieve "rigidity almost identical to that obtained in the cataleptic state" indicates teaching of advanced yoga practices that induce trance-like consciousness. This connects to the broader tradition of **[translate:samadhi]** states where physical immobility accompanies transcendent awareness. The careful timing restrictions (maximum two minutes, seven breaths each direction) show mature understanding of the powerful effects of this practice and appropriate safety precautions for students.

# Document 75: The Toxicity of Meat - Scientific Analysis of Decomposition and Cellular Damage

**Translation from [translate:La Iniciación] Vol. 3 No. 23, March 1944**

**By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴**

## Is it Possible to Prolong Youth?

### Does there exist a Spiritual Alchemy capable of returning youth to us? - Causes of old age and death.

### Meats are Harmful Foods Due to Decomposition

**Meats are harmful foods because they are foods in a state of decomposition.** Having life abandoned the body of the violently sacrificed animal, all cells of the various tissues enter into a phase of decomposition, with enormous production of toxic substances, and the man who erroneously believes that, by feeding himself on meat he is nourishing himself with a perfect food, does not know that **this meat possesses no more than 15 to 20% food value**, constituted by proteins and usable fats and some residues of salts.

**The remainder is constituted by water** in which, in solution or suspension, are found the toxic products of cellular protoplasm decomposition.

**The remainder is constituted by water** in which, in solution or suspension, are found the toxic products of cellular protoplasm decomposition.

So that, **by ingesting meat we ingest a great quantity of substances, not only not usable as food, but which are extremely harmful to our physical organism as well as to our soul and our mind**.

### The Natural Dispensary vs. Putrefaction

If we desire healthful and invigorating foods, that is, the **Sattvik** ones, it is necessary to turn to the vast dispensary of our mother Nature.

**To eat meats, cold cuts, sausages, etc., is to provoke illness**, since putrid substances accumulate in the system, substances that have not been expelled and that cause putrefaction and engender toxic acids. **95% of illnesses come from inadequate alimentation** and, of all harmful foods, **meats of all kinds are the most harmful**.

**Albuminuria, arteriosclerosis, arthritis, appendicitis, tonsillitis, ulcers, cancer and countless diseases are the high price we pay for our ignorance about what it suits us to eat**.

### The Double Elimination Burden

It is very important to know that **the organism of one who eats meat has to expel not only its own waste substances produced in the catabolic phase of cellular metabolism, but also the substances in state of putrefaction that are found in meats**, such as for example:

- **Uric acid**

- **Ptomaines**

- **Indoles**

- **Phenols**

- **Skatol**

- **Cadaverine**

- **Putrescine**

- **And many others**

### Organ Exhaustion and System Breakdown

**The organs destined for elimination**, such as kidneys, skin, intestine and lungs, then have to enormously increase their activity and **the defensive powers of the organism**, constituted in this case by chemical synthesis realized for neutralization of any harmful substance, **gradually tire over time, until they can no longer fulfill their depurative, defensive and protective functions**.

### The Weakening Effect of Meat Excess

**The excess of meats, instead of fortifying the body as is generally believed, gradually diminishes its resistance and vitality** due to all that we have said, and leaves it easy prey to germs, whose dynamic, vital action, etc., are the causes of infectious diseases.

**Let us not forget that germs find a fertile field of development in any place where a putrefactive process exists**. If we know how to keep the body clean by means of rational, natural, and minimally toxic alimentation, illness, old age and death will not attack it so rapidly and prematurely.

### The Stimulant Problem

If we know how to keep the body clean by means of rational, natural, and minimally toxic alimentation, illness, old age and death will not attack it so rapidly and prematurely.

### The Stimulant Problem

**All stimulants**, such as for example tea, coffee, alcohol, chocolate, etc., **are also toxic and many of them have no nutritional value**. These stimulants, taken after meals, as is commonly done, are even more harmful, since they retard the digestive process. They should be, then, substituted by fresh fruits or fruit juices (but not bottled, because these, in general, are nothing more than water with essences that have nothing to do with the fruit).

### Protein-Rich Foods and Toxin Formation

**Eggs and lentils**, like other dry legumes, should also be eaten in small quantities, or very rarely, because they are foods that contain many proteins, which are those that give origin to **purines**, these latter substances that give origin to many of the toxic substances enumerated.

For those who work physically, **nuts are an excellent food**, but, as their richness in fats and proteins is elevated, they should be eaten in small quantities and always combining them with other fruits and vegetables compatible with them.

### The Problem of Refined Foods

**The refinement of foods is also harmful to man**, especially that of flours from which, through excessive purification process, mineral salts and vitamins have been removed, thus leaving them impoverished.

**Pastry, delight for so many stomachs**, should also not constitute daily food, as is frequently done, due to the toxic products to which they give origin in the digestion of starches and refined sugar. **Eliminate also all sweets, candies, etc.**, from which all energetic power has been subtracted and which, consequently, are substances that upon fermenting, convert into alcohols.

### Natural Alternatives

**Substitute them then with dates, raisins, figs, almonds, etc.** **Mothers do not imagine the damage they do to their children when they encourage the habit of eating bonbons, candies, etc.**, which slowly attack those tender and delicate bodies. Let them be accustomed, on the contrary, from the earliest age to eat much fruit, **taking into account that it is true food and not a sweet or dessert, as it is generally considered**.

### The Fruit Acidity Myth

**Fruit does not cause acidity as is generally believed**. Those who sustain this do not know thoroughly its composition and the products to which they give origin in the digestive process. **Acidity is not caused by fruit but by meat-based foods previously eaten**, in addition to many others like flour, pastries, stews, and this due to the excess of proteins they contain.

**Acidity is not caused by fruit but by meat-based foods previously eaten**, in addition to many others like flour, pastries, stews, and this due to the excess of proteins they contain.

**On the contrary, fruit and raw vegetables**, due to the many mineral salts they contain, **neutralize and contribute to eliminating acids already existing**. We must take as norm to eat at least one raw meal per day, a meal in which a large quantity of salads and fruits intervene.

### The Temperature Factor

**Hot meals are also harmful**. Our stomach resents and is irritated, suffers and works under inadequate conditions, thus prematurely wearing out the delicate mucosa and permitting, over time, the formation of ulcers and upon these, as is known, cancer, without counting the various forms of gastritis with or without hyperchlorhydria.

**The example is given by the man who feeds himself exclusively on fruits and vegetables. He never has thirst, because in these vegetables water is contained in high percentages and the temperature of his stomach is always thus the optimal desired**.

### The True Elixir of Youth

Thus, as our dear readers will have been able to verify, **fruits and vegetables of all kinds truly constitute the true elixir of youth and long life**, uselessly sought in other foods and substances.

### The Great Ignorance About Human Physiology

By all that we have just exposed, we realize that **we live in the most complete ignorance regarding the human body and the substances that can, without damage, nourish it**. We believe ourselves wise for the mere fact of knowing how to earn money, we know by memory the constitution of a machine, like that of a complicated electric motor, but, instead, **we know almost nothing, or very little, of the constitution of our body and its intimate physiological mechanisms**.

### The Scientific Lag in Nutrition

**Physics and chemistry are already arriving at great strides to knowledge of the complicated structure of the atom**, all fields of science are rapidly evolving, but **physiological or biological chemistry are still in their infancy**, despite the great conquests that chemistry and physics have permitted them to achieve, and **the science of alimentation is still, one could say, in its infancy**.

**The day when sufficient progress has been made in this so important science, we will understand what today still constitutes a mystery for us**, that is, what are the true causes of illnesses, what are the causes of rapid aging, what the cause of hair loss, weakness of sight, etc.

### The Educated Ignorance of Professionals

**A mathematician, a physicist, a poet, a writer, a philosopher, a priest are all considered as the maximum expression of knowledge and intelligence within a collectivity and, however, almost all of them ignore the anatomical and histological constitution of their bodies and are unaware of the most elementary physiological mechanisms**.

**(To be continued)**

**(To be continued)**

**Historical Analysis:** This systematic critique of conventional nutrition, written in 1944, demonstrates remarkable prescience about issues that would later become central to modern nutritional science and environmental health. Asuri Kapila's identification of specific toxic compounds (ptomaines, indoles, phenols, skatol, cadaverine, putrescine) shows sophisticated biochemical knowledge for the era, while his recognition that "95% of illnesses come from inadequate alimentation" anticipates contemporary understanding of diet's role in chronic disease.

The analysis of refined foods, hot meals, and stimulants reveals understanding of how industrial food processing removes vital nutrients and creates health problems. His observation that "mothers do not imagine the damage they do to their children" by giving them processed sweets shows awareness of how early dietary habits shape lifelong health patterns.

Most significantly, his critique of the educated classes' ignorance about basic physiology—that professionals who master complex external subjects remain ignorant of their own bodily constitution—points to a fundamental flaw in educational systems that separate intellectual development from practical health wisdom. His prediction that future advances in "physiological chemistry" would reveal the true causes of aging, disease, and degeneration has proven remarkably accurate.

> [translate:"La Vida del Universo, como una parte de Brahman, se manifiesta en lo material del universo, en cinco grados de Divinidad conocidos como Akshara, Jiva, Atma, Paramatma y Purusha; y también en el hombre como una parte del universo, la Divinidad está presente en los cinco grados y es realizada por él en proporción a su actuación en sus varios cuerpos."]

*"The Life of the Universe, as a part of Brahman, manifests in the material of the universe, in five degrees of Divinity known as **Akshara, Jiva, Atma, Paramatma and Purusha**; and also in man as a part of the universe, Divinity is present in the five degrees and is realized by him in proportion to his action in his various bodies: the **Annamaya Kosha**, etc."*

### The Five States of Consciousness

*"The states of consciousness of man are distinct while functioning in the diverse bodies, beginning from the **Annamaya Kosha**, and are called respectively: **Jagrat, Swapna, Sushupti, Turiya and Turiyatita**."*

**Here, it is worthy of note that while consciousness functions with the Annamaya Kosha, where the same is in the plane of Turiyatita, the **Purusha** aspect of Brahmic Life is merely reflected; when the Yogi realizes directly the Purusha, the body in its totality is abandoned. While consciousness is in the body itself, it can rise to the Turiya plane and directly realize the Paramätmic aspect.**

The being is the same in all aspects, but our perception of it in the diverse aspects requires this variation of terminology.

### The Genesis of Sakti (Power/Energy)

As a result of the influence of Spirit in Matter, is engendered **Sakti** or **Maya**, that is, Energy or Power. This Sakti is diversely called according to being engendered in a particular group of matter influenced by a determined aspect of Spirit; thus, there are:

- **Akshara Sakti**

- **Jiva Sakti**

- **Âtma Sakti**

- **Paramatma Sakti**

- **Purusha Sakti**

**It is by means of Sakti that the entire evolution of the world develops, being a result of the mutual play between Spirit and Matter.**

### The Triple Sakti Classification

Adopting for these energies a somewhat diverse system of names, denoting terms of function, as distinct from those of the nature of consciousness, **Sakti is triple: Gunamaya, Esha (or Kalyami) and Devi**: the planes of matter can be called in a similar manner; and the aspects of spirit that thus function in the planes, are known by the names of **Pratyagatma or Samsaratma, Avataratma and Paramatma**, respectively.

### Our Relationship with the Three Saktis

### Our Relationship with the Three Saktis

**Normally, we are related with Gunamayi Sakti**; **the Great Beings who incarnate among men in critical epochs of the world for the elevation of humanity, act in Esha-Sakti**. **All of us have in our bodies the matter of these two groups and, on a small scale, each one of the Saktis.**

Thus it is possible for us, by appropriate application, **to function in the different bodies constituted of the matter of these groups, and by means of proper invocation of the various Saktis, to realize the different aspects of Brahman**. Man can thus prepare himself for each one of the states of **vyavasaya** or function in this infinite evolution of the world (**Samsara**).

### The Two Extremes of Error

**Engaging in world evolution with an attitude that is exclusively material (pakrítica), and therefore only concrete**, leads to complete forgetfulness of the fact of deity's immanence, and as a result, the man who follows only external phenomena, does nothing but follow the passing gleam of ephemeral and brilliant mirages; he only pursues, without being able to reach, reality; he only seeks, without ever being able to find truth; meanwhile, he suffers gradual diminishment of his superior instinct.

**On the other hand, dedicating his effort exclusively to consideration of the life aspect of things**, he comes to esteem revealed creation as a useless panorama of prodigal illusion; as consequence it derives, that he neglects the truths of the physical medium, and comes to be in time an unhappy victim of asceticism of sterile abstraction.

### The Problem with Current Scriptures

**The scriptures currently in vogue treat exclusively one or the other of the aspects, and, as such, are not useful in the matter of full achievement of the Ideal.** The Prakrítico and Átmico aspects above referred to, both must be employed by essential necessity, since in the scheme of things, both coexist. **Atma and Prakriti, Spirit and Matter**.

### The Teaching of Suddha Dharma

**The teaching of Suddha Dharma is aimed at the necessity of recognizing both from the transcendental point of view**, the only one that will enable the Disciple to obtain the ideal (technically called **Paraprapti**). **A constant approximation (Samipya) to Brahman that is Eternal Glory, is thus attainable only with incessant practice of Suddha Dharma**.

### The Necessity of Direct Instruction

**All instructions referring to actual practice of Raja Yoga, must be obtained directly from duly constituted corporations**; only their first principles are written in books, for benefit of understanding disciples, and we are permitted to publish all such books; **ulterior courses of discipline are imparted orally to the disciple, if he is worthy to be entrusted with the charge**. **So profound is this teaching and so vast its meaning, that the mystery cannot be too soon revealed to the uninitiated**.

### The Gayatri and Yoga-Brahma-Vidya

**So profound is this teaching and so vast its meaning, that the mystery cannot be too soon revealed to the uninitiated**.

### The Gayatri and Yoga-Brahma-Vidya

**The study of the Universe in all its aspects and systems, the laws of its manifestation, of its being and its consummation, as well as all the mystery relative to Divine Intervention that conducts it, constitutes the Gayatri**; and **the science that expounds the Gayatri, is called Yoga-Brahma-Vidya, or Synthetic Science of the Absolute**.

This science is the exposition of world evolution, from both points of view, the analytical (**Sankhya**) and the synthetic (**Yoga**); the Sankhya system, here mentioned, is also called **Suddha Sankhya**, to distinguish it from **Kevala**, or **Niriswara** or **Asuddha Sankhya**, which is a negation of divine unity in the multiplicity or diversity of world evolution; while **Suddha Sankhya** is thus called for recognizing divine unity in multiplicity.

### Suddha Raja Yoga vs. Hatha Yoga

**The Yoga here mentioned is Suddha Raja Yoga**, distinct from other forms of disciplines belonging to **hatha yoga and similar, whose methods invariably make the aspirant contract an almost incurable disease**.

### The Fourfold Constitution of Brahman

**Yoga Brahma Vidya, as science, is based on the quadruple or quaternary constitution of Brahma**, namely: **Gnana, Iccha and Kriya (Suddha Sankhya) and Suddha Yoga**, which is the synthesis of this trinity of Suddha Sankhya; consequently it is called by another name: **Tritwikatwa**, that is—of the Triple and of the One.

Each of these four is seen further in six aspects or **Dharmas**, of which **five Dharmas are causal and the sixth is consequential**; thus, in totality, **Yoga Brahma Vidya treats of the twenty-four Dharmas** that explain in their entirety the nature of Brahman, both revealed and unrevealed.

### The Sacred Pranava (AUM)

To express the same in another manner taking the **Pranava** or Sacred Word—**AUM**—to signify Brahman, it can be said that **the science of Yoga Brahma Vidya comprises the study of Vyhasti Pranava** (that is, of Pranava in its separative, distributive or analytical aspect), **as well as the study of Samashti Paranava** (that is, of Pranava in its unitary, collective or synthetic aspect).

**The Bhagavat Gita of Srí Krishna is eminently the scripture of this science**. In the ancient battlefield of **Kurukshetra**, given as it was by **Bhagavan Narayana**, the Most Holy Lord with the appearance of **Srí Krishna**, speaks to **Nara**—in the appearance of the yearning and warrior disciple **Arjuna**; **always until now there is need to follow in pursuit of that science, as he exactly followed, because with such following, humanity before long will also gain victory**; **man can ill afford the loss of those lessons, because in each beating heart the battle of Kurukshetra is fought and his Divinity dwells in him as Great Guru and leads the enthusiastic disciple warrior to glorious victory**.

### The Eight Supreme Virtues

**For his teaching not to be received out of season, it is necessary that each one of us exercise himself vigorously, with thought, word and deed in the eight supreme virtues**: **tolerance and compassion, tranquility and not being ambitious, purity and proper disinterestedness, and not tiring of serving, and yearning for the good of the world**.

**The Sàttvic quality** (as distinct from Rajásica and Tamásica) **creates these virtues and it suits us at the opportune moment to begin fomenting this quality in each phase of our life in the midst of our fellows**.

### The Path of Initiation and Progress

**To be initiated in Suddha Dharma Mandalam is the first step by right orientation**, and the disciple as he follows the orientation of Superiors, becomes increasingly conscious of his progress on the path, and, at each turn of it, finds that darkness no longer invades his way, but rather, light illuminates from all sides; he finds that his zeal does not cease to fill the full measure of necessary energy; and that each one of his efforts is a prosperous advance that places him closer to the goal.

### The Divine Benediction

**May the grace of Bhagavan Náráyana, Yóga Dévi and Naradéva be with these yearning disciples, and may that of the Elders of Suddha Dharma Mandalam always come to them with their infallible favor and blessing, by which alone it is given to men to definitely attain Divine Victory**.

Thus end the preliminary notes that about the Hierarchy and the manner of Its Work, Suddha Dharma Mandalam teaches.

### Final Blessing

**Historical Analysis:** This sophisticated exposition represents one of the most advanced presentations of Vedantic philosophy available in Western esoteric literature of the 1940s. The systematic presentation of the five degrees of Divinity (Akshara through Purusha) and five states of consciousness (Jagrat through Turiyatita) demonstrates remarkable depth of understanding of classical Hindu metaphysics. The warning that current scriptures treat only one aspect (material or spiritual) and are therefore inadequate for full realization shows mature philosophical discrimination, while the emphasis on Suddha (pure) practices over Asuddha (impure) ones indicates authentic traditional transmission. The integration of Bhagavad Gita teachings with practical spiritual discipline, combined with the statistical tracking of student progress across three countries, demonstrates how ancient wisdom was being successfully adapted for contemporary Western practitioners during World War II.

# Document 77: Cosmic Influences and Terrestrial Magnetism - Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science

**Translation from [translate:La Iniciación] Vol. 3 No. 23, March 1944**

**By Pitágoras, S∴I∴**

## Cosmic Influences and Reactions of Living Beings

### Variations of Terrestrial Magnetism

### Ancient Universal Principles

Since the most remote antiquity it has been affirmed, and for many centuries, that in Nature everything lives, that is, **everything vibrates and radiates**.

**The Sun has been considered as the source of all life of our universe** and upon the cross, which among many things symbolized the four cardinal points, the ancient initiates had placed the mysterious letters **I.N.R.I.**, whose esoteric meaning is **[translate:Igne Natura Renovatur Integra]**, that is, **"Nature is entirely renewed by fire."**

This **"fire"** is not, as one might think, physical fire, but that **primordial element that Heraclitus considered as the base of life if not life in its very essence**.

### Symbolic Representations Across Cultures

In the various mythologies this **"fire"** has been symbolized differently, considered as energetic element from which all other radiations, such as light, heat, electricity and magnetism, are but manifestations.

- **In Greek mythology** it is **Vulcan** who, in Olympus, forges weapons for the other gods and for mortals themselves

- **In India** it is the god **Agni**, whose seven tongues correspond to the seven colors of the spectrum and who is currently still adored by the Parsis

- **On various ancient monuments** of Scandinavia, India, and various countries of the Far East, we find this **"fire"** symbolized by the **Swastika**

### Solar Worship and Blood Sacrifice

In almost all ancient peoples the cult of the Sun has been celebrated, **father of all life represented by "fire"** and the sacrifices offered to him were bloody, since **blood contained that life or "fire" originating from the Sun itself**; later the sacrifice of animals was substituted by fermented juice of Asclepias acid or other fatty bodies capable of feeding flame, or by breads upon which the Swastika had been impressed, as for example among the Mayas and Egyptians.

### Planetary Influences and Ancient Sciences

But, in antiquity, in addition to the predominant influence of the Sun as giver of life, **the influence of other planets of our universe has also been admitted, all of them considered as living beings**. Thus, from the study of those influences and of the position of those planets in the sky, were born principally in Babylon, **Astronomy** or constitution of the Universe and **Astrology** or life of that same Universe.

**The earth itself was considered as a living being**, thus giving origin to that doctrine known under the name of **Hilozoism** and its influences upon the beings that inhabited upon it were held in great consideration.

### The Materialist Reaction and Return

All those truths that the ancient initiates had expressed by means of symbols or that were known under form of legends or myths by peoples incapable of understanding them, **have been despised by materialists** who, not seeing in these myths, legends and symbols, but manifestations of the infantile mentality of peoples, have wanted to react against mystics and spiritualists.

### The Scientific Revival

**Since some years ago a reaction has begun to manifest in the scientific world** against materialist conceptions of life and universe, especially after the latest discoveries of physicists about the constitution of the atom (in which they have seen how electronic movements are analogous to those of planets in the solar system) about the radiant state of matter, about various radiations, etc.

**We return thus insensibly to the old conception of the close dependence of living beings on the cosmic medium** or the influence of cosmic and telluric irradiations upon living beings, producing upon them variations in the functioning of cellular life of organisms and even in the psychic life of man itself.

### The Coming Vindication of Ancient Knowledge

And, **each time progress is made in these cosmobiological studies, the old scientific and philosophical conceptions of the ancients will become increasingly intelligible under the light of new scientific knowledge**. There will thus come a day when we will fully understand what is that **unique principle that the Chinese had denominated TAI-KI** and that they had symbolized by a circle whose unfolding produced the other two opposite and complementary principles denominated **IANG** and **YN**, which is found everywhere and whose equilibrium constitutes harmony in the universe and health in the organism.

### The Chinese System of Universal Forces

Let us say in passing that **IANG was represented by a continuous line and YN by an interrupted line** and their groupings by three formed the eight combinations, or the **PA-KOUA** of **Fo-Hi**. Other ways of symbolizing **TAI-KI** were to represent its two constitutive principles **IANG** and **YN**, with two thick commas, one red and another green, that compenetrated by their concavities to manifest that they were never separated, or with the dragon (**IANG**) and the tiger (**YN**), or with two dragons between which exists a kind of whirlwind, representing the neutral or dynamic equilibrium.

And we will thus understand why the dragon (**IANG**), representing the positive or active principle, is in an elevated position and blows toward the other dragon (**YN**), negative and passive principle, to give origin to the forms in which life dwells.

### Universal Correspondences

**TAI-KI**, which is denominated **AOR** by the Hebrews, **Sushumna** by the Hindus, **Astral Light** by the Martinists, **"movement"** by Louis Lucas, etc.

**IANG and YN**, which correspond to the **OB and OD** of the Hebrews, **IDA and PINGALA** of the Hindus, etc.

### Environmental Influences on Physiology

**There is no one today who questions that the environment in which we live exercises an important influence upon physiological phenomena**. The attraction of heat and cold, of humidity and light, of electricity, etc., upon the organism, are quite well known by biologists and physiologists.

But, **what is still unknown in the scientific world, or which at least is beginning to be suspected, is that other cosmic and telluric influences also exercise their action upon vegetable, animal and human organisms as upon the inorganic and mineral world**.

### The Invisible Influences

**These influences have escaped the observation and experimentation of positivist and materialist savants for much time**, because they manifest without man being able to be consciously impressed by them, that is, they manifest upon unconscious life. But **many facts for which it has not been possible to give convincing explanation, have called the attention of attentive observers** and have induced them to investigate their cause.

Thus, for example, many sensitive beings react by means of pains to meteorological variations, diverse animals, like birds, fly more or less low and following certain directions, chickens that wallow in dust, etc.

### Effects on Inorganic Matter

Thus, for example, many sensitive beings react by means of pains to meteorological variations, diverse animals, like birds, fly more or less low and following certain directions, chickens that wallow in dust, etc.

### Effects on Inorganic Matter

**Those influences also manifest, as we have said, upon inorganic matter and especially upon the compass**, since its magnetized needle varies with the varying of terrestrial magnetism of which they are components. **One should not be surprised, then, if in China, and generally in the Far East, no one dares to construct a house, a sepulcher, etc., without consulting a master in FONG-CHOEI**, that is, a kind of geomancer who occupies himself with the science of winds (**FONG**), waters (**CHOEI**) and, in general, telluric and cosmic influences.

**One should not be astonished, then, at the surprising revelations of modern dowsers**, as well as those who utilize oscillations of the pendulum.

### The Magnetic Key to Cosmic Studies

**When the multiple solar, terrestrial and planetary influences change, to which matter and living beings in general and man in particular are subjected, modifications are produced in terrestrial magnetism revealed by the compass**. **To study, then, variations of terrestrial magnetism equals studying variations of cosmic influences**. In another article we will study planetary influences more closely. In this let us limit ourselves to studying variations of terrestrial magnetism.

## VARIATIONS OF TERRESTRIAL MAGNETISM

### Early Modern Recognition

In 1933, **Dr. Loir**, one of the principal collaborators of **Pasteur**, had written in the November number of [translate:La Cóte d'Azur Médicale]:

*"Cosmic and telluric irradiations have even produced upon certain persons such perturbation in the functioning of cellular life of the organism that, without intervention of microbes, could, as consequence, result an illness. It is certain that the medium in which we live exercises an important action upon physiological phenomena. These are new ideas (!!!) that it is necessary to study when we find ourselves in presence of facts very difficult to explain."*

### The Pioneering Work of Dr. Régnault

But, in reality, already since 1927 **Dr. Jules Régnault** had launched a call in [translate:La Cóte d'Azur Médicale] for creation of a **[translate:Societé de Biodynamique]**, with international character, and whose purpose was the study of forces or diverse forms of energy of living beings, their reciprocal actions and modifications under geophysical and cosmic influences.

And, recently, under the stimulus of **Dr. Maurice Faure**, **Dr. Jules Régnault** founded in Nice the **[translate:Institut international d'étude des radiations solaires, terrestres et cosmiques]**. Excellent initiative that has already given optimal results and that surely will give others in the future, when calm has returned to the old European continent, currently devastated by the world conflagration.

Excellent initiative that has already given optimal results and that surely will give others in the future, when calm has returned to the old European continent, currently devastated by the world conflagration.

### The Return to Ancient Knowledge

But, **what currently may seem new, is not, in reality, but a return to the scientific conceptions of the ancients**. In effect, **already more than 3,600 years ago, the Chinese knew the variations of terrestrial magnetism produced by cosmic influences**.

### The Reality of Magnetic Variations

**What are those variations of terrestrial magnetism that the compass reveals to us?**

Commonly it is believed that the extremity of the compass, approximately directed toward the North and that indicates the geographic North coincides with the magnetic pole. In reality, **if it was thus for Paris, in 1666, it is no longer so now after a slow deviation, since then, has been produced**. **The geographic pole does not coincide, then, currently, with the magnetic pole**.

### Technical Terminology

The angle formed between the two poles is called **angle of declination** and, **isogonic lines** those lines that unite all points of the same declination. On the other hand, the lines that unite all points in which the inclination of one of the compass poles toward earth is the same, are called **isoclinic lines**, and the lines that unite all points in which the intensity of terrestrial magnetism is the same, are called **isodynamic lines**.

### Historical Documentation

**The angles of inclination and declination vary progressively and asynchronously**. **These variations have been very well studied for Paris, from 1666 to 1915, by Al. Bécédéef**, who published them in [translate:La Cóte d'Azur Médicale] of Toulon.

**(To be continued)**

**Historical Analysis:** This groundbreaking exposition by Pitágoras S∴I∴ demonstrates remarkable foresight in recognizing the scientific validity of ancient cosmological principles. Writing in March 1944, he anticipates by decades the modern understanding of how cosmic forces affect biological systems. His recognition that electronic movements in atoms mirror planetary movements in solar systems shows awareness of fractal patterns that would later become central to systems theory. The detailed knowledge of Chinese cosmological principles (TAI-KI, IANG-YN, PA-KOUA) demonstrates the sophisticated level of cross-cultural scholarship being conducted by South American esotericists. Most significantly, his prediction that future cosmobiological studies would vindicate ancient wisdom has proven remarkably accurate, as modern research increasingly confirms the effects of solar activity, geomagnetic variations, and cosmic radiation on human health and behavior.

[translate:… Y he estado nueve noches bajo el abierto cielo,

arañando la tierra para calmar la sangre

y adelgazando el grito de mi voz encerrada.

scratching the earth to calm the blood

and thinning the cry of my enclosed voice.

Meanwhile, the bitter wind carried away blade by blade,

this shadow profile of my body in darkness.*

[translate:Y luego te he entregado, —noche mía, — mi sangre.

La sangre. Sí: la sangre. La sangre que solloza

por túneles azules su vida equivocada;

la sangre que no quiere desintegrar su grito,

por qué es el fundamento de la flor y del canto.]

*And then I have delivered to you, —my night,— my blood.

The blood. Yes: the blood. The blood that sobs

through blue tunnels its mistaken life;

the blood that does not want to disintegrate its cry,

because it is the foundation of the flower and the song.*

vivió el furor del sueño su tormenta diaria

sin que una larga arruga marcara su oleaje,

ni el pensamiento puro lo anegara en su sombra

al horadar mis sienes su vertical tortura.]

the fury of dream lived its daily tempest

without a long wrinkle marking its surge,

nor pure thought drowning it in its shadow

when piercing my temples with its vertical torture.*

[translate:Y ahora son los ojos: los taciturnos ojos,

donde guardaba el alba sus pétalos de estrellas;

los ojos de agua clara donde iban las gacelas

a buscar mansedumbre para su sed de fuga.]

*And now it is the eyes: the taciturn eyes,

where dawn kept its petals of stars;

the clear water eyes where gazelles went

to seek gentleness for their thirst for flight.*

los labios ya besados por numerosas muertes;

y los pies marineros, llagados de caminos;

el corazón ausente y el pecho amanecido.]

*And also goes the stone, —now mute— of the lips:

the lips already kissed by numerous deaths;

and the sailor feet, wounded by roads;

the absent heart and the dawned chest.*

[translate:¿Después? Después la mano: la calcinada mano,

marcada en su pecado por un buril de fuego;

la mano que no quiso pagar su duro crimen

de haber atado un sueño con su garfio de carne.]

marked in its sin by a chisel of fire;

the hand that did not want to pay its hard crime

of having tied a dream with its hook of flesh.*

aquietó, —al fin, por siglos también, su inenarrable

desesperada angustia de ser humanidad.]

delivered to dawn their prisoner dream.

Everything reintegrates to you: profound and lofty night.

The tremendous parable no longer leans upon you;

and that tremor of centuries that you delivered to me one day,

quieted, —at last, for centuries also, its unspeakable

desperate anguish of being humanity.*

—eternal bosom of mother that gives birth to its harvest

with an indifference of pacified sex,—

will emerge the sad rosary of my aching bones,

free now from the terror of their prison of life.*

al peregrino tránsito por la prisión de piedra;

nunca más el lamento secreto de la flauta,

encenderá en la tarde su rústico llamado.]

*And nevermore the sweet song that gave beauty

to the pilgrim transit through the prison of stone;

nevermore the secret lament of the flute,

will kindle in the afternoon its rustic call.*

Despojada del largo castigo del recuerdo.

Un árbol o una piedra: algo que mire al Tiempo,

mudo y sordo y sin ojos, por una Eternidad.]

Stripped of the long punishment of memory.

A tree or a stone: something that looks at Time,

mute and deaf and without eyes, for an Eternity.*

**Historical and Literary Analysis:** This haunting elegy, written in Asunción, Paraguay on August 11, 1943, during the darkest period of World War II, represents one of the most profound explorations of spiritual death and rebirth in South American esoteric literature. The poem's structure—nine nights of dissolution followed by the promise of the tenth night's transformation—follows the classical pattern of mystical death described in initiatic traditions worldwide.

The poem's structure—nine nights of dissolution followed by the promise of the tenth night's transformation—follows the classical pattern of mystical death described in initiatic traditions worldwide.

The systematic surrender of each aspect of human identity (blood, forehead, eyes, lips, feet, heart, chest, and finally the "calcined hand") mirrors the process described in texts like the **Bardo Thodol** and the **Dark Night of the Soul**. The "calcined hand" particularly evokes alchemical imagery of purification through fire, while the hand's "hard crime of having tied a dream with its hook of flesh" suggests the bondage of spirit to matter that must be dissolved for spiritual rebirth.

The transformation from "prisoner dream" to freedom from "the prison of life," leading to existence as "a tree or a stone... mute and deaf and without eyes, for an Eternity," describes the final stage of mystical union where individual consciousness merges with universal being. The poem's placement in an esoteric magazine during wartime suggests how personal spiritual transformation was understood as both response to and transcendence of collective human suffering.

The poet's vision of final liberation as mineral or vegetable consciousness—"something that looks at Time... for an Eternity"—represents a sophisticated understanding of non-dual awareness that transcends human identity while maintaining witness consciousness. This remarkable work demonstrates the depth of mystical understanding being cultivated within South American esoteric circles during humanity's gravest historical crisis.

### Revolutionary Philosophical Contributions:

**The 72-Type Anthropological System:** Jehel's sophisticated classification representing one of the most comprehensive human typologies in Western esoteric literature, showing how individual constitution determines optimal diet and spiritual practice.

**Spiritual Tolerance Teaching:** The profound insight that "it is better to swallow a steak at lunch and have pity on the neighbor who has nothing to eat and help him, than to ingest 'saintly' a dandelion root and remain indifferent to the suffering of those who surround us" demonstrates mature spiritual understanding that ethical behavior transcends dietary purity.

**Mercury as Consciousness Evolution:** Recognition of Mercury's role in human development from "animality toward others more human" while warning about intellectual obsession preventing authentic spiritual development.

### Advanced Scientific Insights:

**Meat Decomposition Analysis:** Asuri Kapila's identification of specific toxins (uric acid, ptomaines, indoles, phenols, skatol, cadaverine, putrescine) and recognition that "95% of illnesses come from inadequate alimentation" anticipated modern understanding of diet's role in chronic disease by decades.

**Terrestrial Magnetism Studies:** Pitágoras S∴I∴'s documentation of Chinese magnetic studies dating 3,600 years and connection to modern cosmobiological research showed remarkable prescience about how cosmic forces affect biological systems.

**Cataleptic Yoga Instruction:** The [translate:"Adhirathasana"] teaching demonstrating understanding of consciousness-body relationships and altered states accessible through specific physical practices.

### Profound Mystical Teachings:

**Suddha Dharma Cosmology:** Systematic presentation of five degrees of Divinity (Akshara, Jiva, Atma, Paramatma, Purusha), five states of consciousness (Jagrat through Turiyatita), and triple Sakti classification (Gunamaya, Esha, Devi) representing one of the most advanced Vedantic expositions available in Western literature.

**The Integration Principle:** Recognition that current scriptures treating only material OR spiritual aspects are inadequate—true realization requires understanding both Spirit and Matter as coexisting aspects of Brahman.

**Practical Spiritual Guidance:** Clear instruction that advanced teachings must be received directly from qualified teachers, with written materials providing only preliminary understanding.

### Wartime Literary Achievement:

**Hérib Campos Cervera's Elegy:** This extraordinary poem, written in Paraguay during WWII's darkest period, demonstrates how personal spiritual transformation was understood as both response to and transcendence of collective human suffering. The systematic dissolution of human identity (blood, forehead, eyes, lips, feet, heart, chest, hand) followed by rebirth as mineral/vegetable consciousness represents sophisticated understanding of non-dual awareness.
