**Note:** This October 1943 issue marks the conclusion of the biographical series on Master Cedaior, one of the most important Martinist figures in South American esoteric history. The issue continues the systematic teachings on human constitution according to Martinist doctrine, presents detailed astrological studies of Saturn, and includes both practical yoga instruction and philosophical poetry on the nature of youth and spiritual vitality.

# Document 22: The Venerable Figure of Master Cedaior - Final Years and Legacy

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**7th Article by JEHEL, S∴I∴**

## The Venerable Figure of Master Cedaior (Final Article)

In 1936, two activities ended for Master Cedaior: he lost his house in Porto Alegre, his situation in that place became difficult, and he was invited by a group of spiritualists to go reside in São Paulo. Before moving to that city, he handed over to Brother Jehel the position of President of the Martinist Order, and by common agreement they decided that Martinism would disinterest itself from the effort made for some years to revivify the spiritual part of Freemasonry and would return to its unique purpose traced by PAPUS: "the diffusion of esotericism, principally Christian, and the study of the phenomena of nature."

### The São Paulo Period (1936-1939)

Cedaior, Lorelair and their children thus went to reside for two and a half years in the city of São Paulo, in which, if on one hand their disillusions were many, since a great part of the spiritualists who had invited them to go there subsequently showed little disposition for true realizations, on the other hand, it was the epoch in which several Martinists of São Paulo surrounded the Master with special affection and thus laid the foundations of what would later be the Martinist movement of that Brazilian metropolis.

On the other hand, and despite constant difficulties of a material order, Master Cedaior continued divulging the Olympic doctrine widely and dedicated himself to the study of transcendental problems of mathematical and philosophical aspect of the Platonic school, resolving, among others, the famous theorem called "Fermat's," that is, dividing a cube into two and into three cubes, work that someday will be published with its philosophical consequences and others.

### Lorelair's Astrological Development

Lorelair, for her part, became an astrologer of ever greater amplitude and depth, making predictions about world events and studies about the biology of human and cosmic evolution through the astrological path that are most interesting and directly connect to the real "astrology" that Saint-Yves, Barlet and Papus had reintroduced in the high grades of Martinism.

It is interesting to note, however, that Lorelair accomplished all this almost without departing from the work bases of her predecessors, doing her research solely through personal observation, meditation and intuition, under the auspices of the Venerable Masters and encouraged by her marvelous companion and Master Cedaior.

### Return to Porto Alegre (1939)

In 1939, Jehel had again organized the Martinist Order of South America, in the likeness and miniature of what the Venerable Master PAPUS had done in 1887 in Europe, and already the Grand Council, located at that time in Porto Alegre, managed to gather conditions so that Master Cedaior, Lorelair and their family could come to reside in said city, in which the work continued its course, with the Central Lodge of Martinism, which had taken as its definitive title the name "CEDAIOR."

It was in said city of Porto Alegre where Cedaior would complete his already cited work on the "cube" and underlying problems, as well as the preparation of various elements who were to continue his work in its diverse aspects, all this, until there came the epoch in which, as we said in the first article, he pronounced the phrase: **"I finished what I had to do this time, now I will take a 'peek' up there and then I will return,"** a serene phrase of that simple language with which Western Initiates are accustomed to present teachings sometimes very important without ostentation.

### The Transition and Final Message

Effectively, shortly afterward, Cedaior left his "de Mascheville" vehicle to return to the Spiritual Plane and continue there his task, in Service of the "Christian Cavalry (ROSE-CROSS)" of which PAPUS had spoken.

### The Transition and Final Message

Effectively, shortly afterward, Cedaior left his "de Mascheville" vehicle to return to the Spiritual Plane and continue there his task, in Service of the "Christian Cavalry (ROSE-CROSS)" of which PAPUS had spoken.

Before closing this series, so synthetic — too much so — of articles about the objective life of the Master, I must complete the picture of his Martinist Initiates. Already, in number 13 of "La Iniciación," I cited the 6 Martinists that Cedaior had initiated in Europe. In South America, his chain was not very long nor numerous, but, as we will see, it was fruitful, due to the very elevated proportion of elements that truly came to SERVE the Order, that is, the ideal:

### The South American Initiatic Chain

Effectively, to the 6 Initiates of Europe, Cedaior added to his Chain, in South America only 14 more Initiates, but, of these, to date already five are Initiators and with important functions in the Order. We already know that, in Martinism, such functions are not "decorative titles" but the result of much work and obligation to work even more after obtaining or accepting said functions:

**Continuation of the list of Initiates by the Venerable Master CEDAIOR:**

| Chain Number | Esoteric Name | Various Characteristics of the Initiate |

|--------------|---------------|----------------------------------------|

| 7 | CDR/3-G | **JEHEL** – Current President of the Grand Council of the Order |

| 8 | CDR/3-H | **De NERVAL** – S∴I∴I∴, already deceased |

| 9 | CDF/3-I | **XBRGŚ/B-4** – Already INITIATOR and Delegate of the Order in São Paulo |

| 10 | CDR/3-J | **BRDDĹ/C-4** – Already INITIATOR and Delegate of the Order in Curitiba |

| 11 | CDR/3-K | **XLRLŔ/D-4** – Already INITIATOR and current Member of the Grand Council |

| 12 | CDR/3-L | **De FERSEN** – Already deceased |

| 13 | CDR/3-M | Student |

| 14 | CDR/3-N | **PARACELSUS** – Already S∴I∴III, dedicated to divulgation of Olympic doctrine |

| 15 | CDR/3-O | **TTH/E-4** – Already Initiator and current president of the Martinist Corporation |

| 16 | CDR/3-P | Faithful Martinist, current Martinist Delegate in Porto Alegre |

| 17 | CDR/3-Q | Current Martinist Delegate in Rivera, dedicated with love to cures and study |

| 18 | CDR/3-R | Dedicated Martinist already advanced |

| 19 | CDR/3-S | Dedicated Martinist already advanced |

| 20 | CDR/3-T | Free Martinist |

### The Fruit of True Service

It suffices to meditate on this list of Initiates to verify that Master Cedaior knew how to choose his "Beings of Desire" and guide them to feed the Sacred Fire, to truly realize and, something especially important, for being the authentic characteristic of the Martinist: **TO REALIZE FOR OTHERS, ALWAYS GIVING ALL THAT ONE RECEIVED**, actively seeking how to give it, adapt it, make it fruitful and alive.

For this reason Master Cedaior achieved that some of his Initiates became, not only Initiators in turn or filled with efficiency functions of constant sacrifice in our Venerable Order, but also, he achieved that several became worthy of entry to the Kabbalistic Order of the Rose Cross, that is, they gave their life to "THE THING," living for their ideal in total and definitive form.

### Final Salutation

Those who know the secret history of the Order, the personal life of the Master and the why and how of many of his realizations, know what price of material, moral and every kind of sacrifice he knew how to pay to truly SERVE, and it is for this reason that in pronouncing it, once again, at the end of this last article, the Salutation that I direct to him in the name of all the Kabbalistic Rosicrucians and all the Martinists, is not a vain formula, it is the evocation of a reality, on this Plane and in the Other:

**Cedaior, dear Master, who always served the best possible, at the price of any sacrifice, SÉDIR-AMO-PAPUS, VAYUSATTVA.**

*May the Roses bloom upon the Cross*

*Of your tomb, as they bloomed in the Light*

*Emanated from your Sacrifice, from your Heart,*

*And may the trajectory of your Mission continue fruitful.*

**AMEN-AUM**

# Document 23: Commentaries on First Degree Martinism - The Sphinx Symbolism

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**Teachings of Jehel, S∴I∴**

## Commentaries on the First Degree of Martinism: Androgyny

This point of the study program of the First Martinist Degree, that is, the constitution of the human being — whom I will call man for brevity, but without excluding thereby his complement; woman — has always been treated **FOR BEING THE FUNDAMENTAL POINT OF THEORY AS WELL AS PRACTICE**.

But, in treating it, certain schools have been content with too little, others have made such an amplification of terms, that having to remember so much terminology and theory, the student loses sight of the essential which is: to understand, in order to apply, verifying in himself, that this constitution has a reason for being and a purpose.

### Following the Master of Clarity

In exposing in these articles the composition of the human being, I will constantly follow the teachings given by the Venerable **PAPUS**, the Master of Clarity. We will see in passing what other schools say, not because they bring any new light, but so that our students can understand the terminology of all the Traditions, Eastern and Western.

## Human Constitution According to the Ancients

**(Cited from PAPUS)**

> "Regarding human constitution, I must, before everything, review the Tradition, since this problem interested the beings of past centuries. Let us see, then, how the Ancients would have resolved it. Well then: they had simply expressed the solution through a symbol that you all know: **the sphinx**.

>

Let us see, then, how the Ancients would have resolved it. Well then: they had simply expressed the solution through a symbol that you all know: **the sphinx**.

>

> The sphinx was the most clear ancient synthesis, by means of which one can represent the diverse adaptations of the human being, on all planes. Effectively, man presents to us physical forces, symbolized by the **ox**; moral forces — valor, virtue, 'virtus' in Latin — symbolized by the **lion**; intellectual forces, symbolized by the **eagle**; finally, a force of divine essence — which, concentrating the preceding physical forces makes of them a unity.

### The Three Types of Human Beings

> "The Ancients had thus conceived three species of men: the working man, the completely physical man, the '**man-ox**'; the valorous man, the man who fights or struggles, the '**man-lion**'; the man who is never on earth, who dreams or walks in the clouds, he who causes the despair of notable merchants who occupy themselves with warehouses, when they have him for a son: the poet, the 'intellectual man' symbolized by the **eagle**.

>

> But, these three natures — lymphatic nature of the ox, sanguine of the lion and nervous of the eagle — are absolutely nothing more than animal beings within us, and if will did not intervene to direct them and dominate them, man would not really exist and would not really be a 'tri-unity,' that is: a unity dominating a ternary.

### The Discovery of the Unconscious

> "What I desire to make you note from now on, in this admirable ancient synthesis that was the sphinx, is that there are **three unconscious dominated by one conscious**.

>

> We know how today's wise men are content to have discovered **one** unconscious. What would it be if they knew there are **three**!... Well then. The ancient Egyptians had represented human synthesis much better than our philosophers or modern wise men did, by showing us **THREE unconscious constituting man and governed by a total consciousness that synthesizes them**.

### The Fourfold Symbolism

> "If Oedipus had responded to the sphinx that interrogated him, 'You are man,' without giving more details, he would not have shown the marvelous adaptations of this symbol.

>

> The sphinx represents, not only man in his four aspects, but also the four ages of man: infancy, youth, mature age and old age; it represents the four moral forces that man can have at his disposition and which are found synthesized in four terms: **to know, to dare, to will and to be silent**; it represents, finally, the four cardinal points that govern astral man, that have determined the march of the star of the Magi and that have become the key to all Traditions.

### The Sacred Tradition

### The Sacred Tradition

> "When we are told that the sphinx is an antiquated symbol, that presents no major interest, for us 'moderns,' let us not forget that Tradition is sacred and that, just as a people proud of its independence is happy to connect itself through tradition to an anterior people, so also, every tradition is happy to connect itself through an invisible means to another anterior tradition.

>

> Remember the enchanting fable that represents the Virgin Mary and her husband fleeing to the desert with the Child Jesus and sleeping between the paws of the Sphinx. Well then, this shows us clearly that the ancient Egyptian tradition ends in the religion of Christ. For this reason each of the four evangelists has been represented by an animal of the Sphinx: **Matthew, by the ox; Mark by the lion; Luke by man and John by the eagle**.

>

> Each gospel is, thus adapted to each of the four human temperaments, manifests one of the powers that man can develop.

### The Need for Positivism

> "Such is this marvelous synthesis that presided over the constitution of ancient ideology. But... you will say, we remain thus until now in the domain of imagination or ideas and it is necessary not to forget that we are in a century of positivism. In a word, you want to know how the human being is constructed and not how the Ancients had conceived it. Let us be, then, positive and study things materially."

## Personal Commentary on the Human Sphinx

Up to here, I cited **PAPUS** and will continue in the next article. I do not want, however, to end this one, without offering to your meditation a rapid commentary that the plate of PAPUS left us as "Key to the human Sphinx." The commentary is mine, do not blame the Master for its imperfection.

### THE NORMAL SPHINX

Physically healthy, strong, laborious and gentle, I work like an ox and my physique sustains with powerful base all my other possibilities.

Astrally dynamic, sometimes my passions roar like a ferocious beast, but, other times I know how to fight like a noble animal for a cause I believe just or great. My feelings and my sensations are powerful, I can be cruel, but I can be heroic.

Intellectually capable, I try to see, remember, understand and apply what I do as an ox and what I feel, hate or love as a lion. My reason can guide my acts and for this I have dared to call myself a "rational being."

There are moments in which, despite the chain that ties me to the lion, through feelings and passions, I draw from the best of that very thing, the possibility of feeling myself eagle and flying toward regions more ample, more pure, and their memory is never completely erased on returning from them, which I visit in imagination or in dream.

### THE INVOLUTED SPHINX

I made improper and dirty uses of my body; born ox, I am almost pig.

### THE INVOLUTED SPHINX

I made improper and dirty uses of my body; born ox, I am almost pig.

I only cultivated what was egoism, cruelty and hatred; from lion I made myself boar. I prostituted human creative possibility, I repudiated my real condition; behold me monkey, through imitation, through useless agitation, through regressed mind. Why make effort to fly and bring from above revealed words that would leave me yearning for celestial mansion? Down here they also hear me if I shout, lie and show off, like a beautiful parrot. Thus I thought, thus I am now.

### THE EVOLVED SPHINX

Human steed, aspirant to Pegasus, my body enjoys working and like a pure-blood, aspires to the goal, seeks its own physical overcoming.

My heart and my soul, faithful and grateful, like the best dog, have learned the pleasure of serving, of caring for others' things, of loving the MASTER.

Man through comprehension, Woman through feeling, I begin to discover the angel once fallen "within myself" and invisible wings sustain my patient elevation.

This sweet dove that caresses my mind in meditation, in prayer or in ecstasy. Is it the Holy Spirit or is it my spirit being sanctified?

# Document 24: Practical Course in Judicial Astrology - Saturn

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**Teachings of Surya, S∴I∴**

## Practical Course in Judicial Astrology

In initiating the exposition of astrological doctrine, in its interpretative part, it is our purpose to abandon all haste and expose, in a manner that probably has never been done in our countries, everything necessary so that the student, whether as astrologer only, or as occultist, Martinist or not, may find in these articles all the esoteric doctrine of Astrology, as it was taught by the various Masters of Martinism and other schools. For this reason, we will cite each time the source of each part of our exposition; we will begin with the minute study of each Sign of the Zodiac and each Planet.

## SATURN

Says J. BURGOYNE, the Rosicrucian and Author of "The Light of Egypt," cited by PAPUS:

> "The old Father Time. With his skeleton body and his mortal scythe, he is without doubt well known to readers. He is one of the numerous forms that Saturn takes in his symbolic aspect. Among the Greeks, he was known under the name of Kronos, grasping with one hand the cycle of necessity, of eternal change of form, of sphere and of function. Among the Hebrews, Saturn was called **SHEBO**, name which means seven. It is composed of **Asheb** which signifies the star of old age, thus expressing the symbol of this planet.

### Kabbalistic Significance

Among the Hebrews, Saturn was called **SHEBO**, name which means seven. It is composed of **Asheb** which signifies the star of old age, thus expressing the symbol of this planet.

### Kabbalistic Significance

> "Kabbalistically, the planet Saturn symbolizes **silent meditation**, and it corresponds to the auricular attributes of the Great Man and therefore represents the senses and faculties of hearing, of audition, etc., in the constitution of humanity. Therefore we see the mystical signification of the kabbalistic conception of this order under the figure of silent meditation: To meditate silence is necessary; to hear one must listen. Meditation is nothing but the tension of the spirit toward the inspirations of the soul.

### Esoteric Correspondences

> "On the esoteric planisphere, Saturn becomes the angel **CASSIEL**, genius of initiative in the astral light. He presents to us thus all the hidden part of all theological mysteries, and, therefore this planet is conceived under the figure of the isolated hermit. It is in this same sense that we find him symbolized in the Tarot, system worthy of much greater attention than that which in general the modern disciples of occult science grant it.

### Astrological Nature

> "Considered astrologically, it can be said that the planet Saturn is the most powerful and the most 'malefic' of all the planets. Not so much by the well-marked character of his influence but especially by the imperceptible and subtle manner in which his influx determines the vitality of the physical organism of those whom he influences. Mars arrives like lightning and lets it be understood soon that evil supervenes. But Saturn is exactly the opposite. His nature is slow and patient, artful and furtive.

>

> At least half of the suffering of our world is due to the action of this planet and, in reality, nine-tenths of the evils of humanity are due to the malefic rays of Saturn and Mars combined. Through Mars, passionate and inconsiderate crime is committed, rarely guilty of premeditation. Saturn is the opposite: he meditates very carefully all his projects before carrying them to execution and rarely commits an error."

### Saturn on Different Planes

**On the Intellectual Plane:** Saturn governs the superior group of selfish sentiments and the ensemble of faculties of reflection. Those who are dominated by his influence are solitary, reserved, slow in speech as in action. They express the highest form of reasoning; in consequence of this, they are generally studious, scientific and arguers of great logic and depth. He has a tendency toward exclusivism, for which reason, the hermit is the true type of the action of this planet. His governed ones stand out in all occult studies.

He has a tendency toward exclusivism, for which reason, the hermit is the true type of the action of this planet. His governed ones stand out in all occult studies.

**On the Physical Plane:** The only good that Saturn can confer is that of affirming intellectuality, of cooling the passions of the selfish individual careful of his own interests. But, the individual who manages to take advantage of the best of these vibrations can consider himself very happy, for Saturn, with all his aspects and positions indicates rather misfortune than success. By nature Saturn is cold and tends to confer strong tendency to avarice.

### Teachings from the Martinist Astrologer JULEVNO

The Martinist Astrologer **JULEVNO** teaches us that Saturn:

**Rules:** the bones, joints, spleen, right ear and knees. The qualities he gives are: melancholy, chronic diseases, inclination to solitude, to avarice and he has under his dominion all that is old, solitary and sad or grave.

**Specific diseases of Saturn are:** those of very slow development, chronic fevers, rheumatisms, paralyses, falls and deaths by asphyxia or suffocation.

### Saturn's Influence on Character

**WHEN SATURN IS ILL-DISPOSED** in a chart, it generally signifies a person haughty, original, coarse, friend of his interests, fearful, suspicious, sorrowful, lazy, astute, with vengeful spirit, superstitious, avaricious, being able to have in certain cases inclination to lust and drink, but not to marriage, except in the case that this be for interest.

**WHEN SATURN IS WELL-DISPOSED** in a chart, said bad influences are seen extremely diminished and then designates a person grave, severe, of much reflection, studious, of profound judgment, with propensity to abstract studies, religious philosophy, geometry, mathematics, medicine, chemistry or alchemy, or to agriculture, mines and other activities related to earth. He will be an economical person, trying to realize a good and especially stable material base.

### Physical Characteristics of Saturnians

**TYPICAL SATURNIANS** are tall and thin, of swarthy complexion or lead color, of dry skin, wrinkled or with much coarse and rigid hair.

The forehead is elevated, the cheeks hollow. Eyes rather small, vivid of expression and have yellowish iris. The beard is not abundant, the cheekbones somewhat prominent, as well as all the bones of the joints. The hair is generally black, hard. The eyebrows abundant, wide, hard, rise and meet above the nose. The ears are large but thin, the nose is long and pointed with its openings little dilated.

The back tends to curve forward, the voice is deep and little modulated; the lower jaw is strong and prominent forward, thus forming a pronounced chin. Saturnians walk slowly looking toward the ground; they generally have a defect or little agility and grace in the movements of legs and waist. They usually live to quite advanced age.

### Astronomical and Karmic Aspects

Saturnians walk slowly looking toward the ground; they generally have a defect or little agility and grace in the movements of legs and waist. They usually live to quite advanced age.

### Astronomical and Karmic Aspects

Saturn as a physical planet, is little brilliant, its light has a pale color, without sparkles; it completes its revolution. Very slow, through the Zodiac in 29 years and 167 days, remains apparently stationary for 5 days when it begins its retrogradation and another 5 when finishing it. It is magnetic and negative, really symbolizes "destiny" in the "fatal" part, that is, inevitable. In other words, it is the severe agent of **Karma**. It does not oblige us to a single pain more than that which we have created for ourselves by past actions, but neither does it let a single "account" fail to be presented to us for exact fulfillment.

Opportunely, we will see its particular influences, according to the **HOUSES OR SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC IN WHICH IT IS FOUND PLACED IN THE CHART**.

# Document 25: Progressive Course in Asana Yoga - Padahasthasana

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴**

## Progressive Course in Asana Yoga (Continuation)

### PADAHASTHASANA

This asana, whose name means "**posture of foot and hand**" is identical to the **PASCHIMOTTASANA** that was published in No. 10 of LA INICIACIÓN) with the sole difference that, while the latter is executed lying down, the former is performed standing up.

### TECHNIQUE

**First Movement:** Being in vertical position, with heels together, with the tips of the feet separated until forming a 45° angle and with the arms naturally extended along the body, raise the arms at the same time that one slowly inhales the air.

**Second Movement:** Execute slowly a flexion movement of the trunk at the same time that one exhales the air until reaching to touch with the thumbs and index fingers, the big toes of the corresponding feet, taking care not to bend the knees. Fig. 14 clearly shows this movement.

**Third Movement:** Carry this flexion movement to its maximum, trying to bring the head as close as possible to the knees until arriving, with practice, to place it between the two legs.

**Fourth Movement:** Remain in that position for a minimum time of 2 and maximum of 10 seconds and then, slowly execute the contrary movements returning to the primitive position.

### Adaptations for Different Body Types

It is clear that fat persons and those for whom the flexion movement is obstructed by the inelasticity of the vertebral joints, will find great difficulty, at the beginning, in performing this asana, but, by bending the knees in the first exercises (which will facilitate grasping the big toes with the hands) and with the ever greater elasticity of the vertebral column, one will arrive in time to perform it perfectly.

## BENEFITS DERIVED FROM PADAHASTHASANA

## BENEFITS DERIVED FROM PADAHASTHASANA

The beneficial effects obtained from this asana can be summarized as follows:

**1)** Greater amplitude in respiratory movements.

**2)** Tonification of the muscles of the chest, abdomen, back and of the thighs and legs.

**3)** Increase in the elasticity of the intervertebral joints.

**4)** Progressive diminution of subcutaneous adipose deposits and especially the abdominal ones.

**5)** Greater fluidity of the vital current **APANA-VAYUK**¹

**6)** Greater fluidity and dynamism of the **SUSHUMNA-NADI**²

**7)** Dissolution and elimination of **TAMAS**³

### Closing Blessing

**PEACE TO ALL BEINGS**

**U**

**A M**

---

**Footnotes:**

¹ **Apana-Vayuk** is one of the five "vital airs," the current that goes from the navel downward and drags with it out of the organism, all the substances of excretion. It is also called "inferior breath."

**Prana** or "inspiratory breath," is the nervous current of the upper parts of the body and especially of the lungs.

² **Sushumna-Nadi**, unique current whose two polarities **IDA** and **PINGALA** ascend through the spinal column.

³ **Tamas**. With this word are designated at once impurities, dejection, heaviness, error, illusion, indolence, apathy, sensualism, etc.

# Document 26: Is it Possible to Prolong Youth? - Natural vs Artificial Methods

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴**

## Is it Possible to Prolong Youth?

### Does there exist a Spiritual Alchemy capable of returning youth to us? - Causes of old age and death.

Many, as we have seen, have been the scientific means based on the functional correlation of hormones secreted by the various endocrine glands, employed without success for obtaining so desired rejuvenation.

The hopes of having achieved, at last, the means to obtain it seemed to have been realized, since some results had been obtained. Then much noise was made around all or some of those methods, but the transitory nature of those results with the consequent return of the organism to a state of old age still more accentuated, caused the hopes to vanish and the faces in which such radiant light had shone, returned to their somber and disconsolate expression.

### Why Scientific Methods Failed

Why did men fail through the application of their methods? We have already said it. For being those methods anti-natural, for being outside of all natural law, for having the insane audacity of wanting to break the harmonic equilibrium of Nature wisely created by the Supreme Architect of the Universe. Nothing, absolutely nothing is possible for pretentious and ignorant men, even when they bear brilliant academic titles, when instead of wanting to study the occult laws of Nature and humbly follow them and apply them, they have the insane pretension of wanting to struggle against them only because their inexorable fatalism clashes against their selfish desires.

It could not be possible, consequently, to obtain the so desired rejuvenation employing anti-natural methods. It is possible, we repeat, through the injection of a hormone or a set of hormones or through the homo- or heteroplastic graft of an endocrine gland, to obtain a very rapid appearance of rejuvenation, but those methods can only patch, correct transitorily, deceive, as a plastic surgeon patches when he grafts a piece of skin from one region to another of the organism or arranges a deformed organ, as a 60-year-old woman deceives when she dyes her hair and smooths her face with pomades, creams and colors to give herself the appearance of a girl.

### The Illusion of Artificial Youth

Despite all that she may do, she will always be a 60-year-old woman whose senile manifestations will appear in all their evidence as soon as the artificial means cease to be temporarily employed.

To give a hormonic shock to the organism is not to rejuvenate it, neither is it to hide the manifestations of old age. It will continue more inexorably than ever its descending path and, perhaps, even more rapidly, as a kind of punishment to one who, with artificial or anti-natural means was deluded into wanting to dominate and conquer it.

### The Natural Law of Aging

**Physiological old age is completely natural.** Against it there is absolutely nothing natural or artificial that can retard it. It is a law of Nature that organisms grow, reach their maximum of flowering and decrease until death, thus following the cycle that all things of Creation follow.

It is only possible to do something against **premature old age**, that is, against that state of the organism arrived at old age before the epoch determined by dietetic and hygienic errors, by wear of vital and especially sexual energies, by the intensity and frequency of emotive states, by intense and continued mental work, during the years of flowering and maturity of the organism.

### The Only True Path to Youth

This is the only old age that is possible to make disappear. But the only means to be able to achieve this is exactly a natural means. First of all the complete and definitive suppression of all those above-mentioned causes that unbalance the functional harmony of integral man and afterward a system of physiological, animic, mental and spiritual life in all harmonic with the divine laws of Nature.

First of all the complete and definitive suppression of all those above-mentioned causes that unbalance the functional harmony of integral man and afterward a system of physiological, animic, mental and spiritual life in all harmonic with the divine laws of Nature.

Qualitative and quantitative selection of materials for the renewal of material substance, maximum utilization and minimum waste of vital energy through adequate respiration, sublimation and harmonic vibration of the noblest emotions, intellectual life, also harmonic and balanced and above all intense and definitive spiritual life that, at the same time it molds emotional life and through its intermediary that physical and physiological, elevates ever more the human and immortal essence toward the Center of Life from which it has emanated until being annihilated in the mysterious **mare magnum** of Divine Essence.

### The Source of True Rejuvenation

It is, then, only by drinking from the infinite fountain of Wisdom, that it is possible to obtain gradually and successively all those natural knowledges that, humbly and perseveringly followed, will be able to permit man the realization of those so-called "miracles" among which that of rejuvenation and maintenance of that state.

Those who are not capable of feeling the internal Peace that living Divine Wisdom provides, those who prefer to wear out their organisms squandering energies in transitory sensual and sensorial enjoyments, those who preferred as true "adventurers of emotions," to burn the white wings of their soul as blindly and madly the unconscious little butterflies do around a dazzling focus of light, will never be able to find the so desired "elixir of long life" and the so desired youth.

### The Future of Humanity

Humanity will arrive one day at obtaining knowledge of the occult functions of the life of being and, among them the most important ones of the endocrine glands, because there is nothing hidden that humanity cannot know, but that goal so radiant and so desired will always be too distant and will always occupy the famished claws of selfish men like a kind of mirage in the desert for the thirsty man, until human science has understood that it must exclusively progress in the paths of natural laws for the greater wellbeing of men and all created things, instead of having as purpose the destruction of human life and all other life, until Faith has not been strengthened by renewed and purified Science, until, finally, men have not understood that, only knowing and LIVING, according to the eternal, harmonic and wise laws of Life, created and decreed by that **MYSTERIOUS ESSENCE** to which, among infinite names we also give that of **GOD**.

### The Path of Cooperation with Nature

### The Path of Cooperation with Nature

Let us imitate, then, Nature, let us cooperate with her in her marvelous labor, let us try to understand her occult work venerating her in her own Sanctuary and only in that way will she reveal to us her mysterious Arcana. Let us seek the "elixir of long Life" and Youth, but not following "mayavic" chimeras, but in the more subtle forces of that same Nature.

### A Wise Vision of the Future

A wise man, to whom his people permitted intuitively to grasp a glimpse of that Light which is Truth and Life, the eminent **D'Arsonval**, said in 1881:

> "I am persuaded that the therapeutics of the future will employ as curative means the physical modifications (heat, light, electricity) and other more subtle agents still unknown, but existing around us. The barbarous method that under the pretext of curing consists in poisoning us with the most toxic [substances] of chemistry, must cede its place to physical agents whose use has at least the advantage of not introducing foreign bodies into the organism."

### The Light of True Science

Wise words pronounced by that cultivator of true Science and which show how he had had a presentiment, in the impenetrable nebulosity of materialism, ruling in his epoch, of how something more, something spiritual is behind and above the physical and the visible. Praise be elevated to those geniuses whose purity and desires to be useful to their brothers permits them to glimpse some rays of that Eternal Light.

And, in effect, only he, in whom shines more or less radiantly the Light of the Spirit will be able to discover the significance of all things and the means that lead us to the solution of that difficult and enigmatic problem that is Youth, not only of the body, but also of the Soul and Mind.

### Future Explorations

In the next article we will venture with the weak light of the transcendental knowledges that we have been permitted to obtain, into that impenetrable mystery of Life, to discover some of its principles that may permit us to improve our physical and mental life and, as a consequence, facilitate the resurgence in us of that Immortal Spirit that is the source of Youth and Eternal Life.

## EXTRACTS FROM SUDDHA LITERATURE

### (Continuation of notes by Pandit K. T. Srinivasachariar)

Among the members of this great Hierarchy, there are many women who through exercise and rigorous disciplines, have reached the grade of **Siddhas**, or adepts, and continue helping universal welfare. This Esoteric Organization recognizes as chief **Bhagavan Narayana**; **Yoga Devi**, the personification of his ineffable energy, or **sakti**, is the divine executrix of his will; and **Naradeva** is his secretary — portion of himself — as representative of the human gender.

This august Hierarchy carries out the orders of the Most Holy Lord, and under his authority acts the corporation of the **Ancients**, who care for and direct the aspirants among men, so that they surely traverse the path and reach the ideal of approximation to the Absolute, **Brahma-Samipya** through which alone is given to reach the ecstasy of eternal beatitude.

### The Work of the Hierarchy

The Hierarchy provides for the necessities of men in a manner appropriate to the environment insofar as it is modified by the variations of time and place. The peoples who inhabit the different countries of the globe do not have common rules of conduct, nor do they follow in the practice of life similar regulations or the same social statutes. The different groups of races are characterized by their diverse systems of faith and diverse modes of worship.

These, not only are diverse, but often seem antagonistic one with respect to the others; and frequently what in one time has constituted for people their canons and their dogmas, in another time has been discarded by those same people.

### The Challenge of Diversity

These, not only are diverse, but often seem antagonistic one with respect to the others; and frequently what in one time has constituted for people their canons and their dogmas, in another time has been discarded by those same people.

### The Challenge of Diversity

Despite science and culture, vast groups of men have shown and continue showing in the present, marked tendencies to ignore those diversities of faith and practice, or to adhere blindly to them; on some occasions, such adherence often leads to the exaggeration of the same. One does not have to look far for the consequences of such ignorance or adherence; the present condition of society with its divisions into innumerable classes, castes, groups, sections and nationalities, is the harvest that today is being reaped as a result of the irrational prejudice and public orthodoxy sown and implanted in the days that were.

### The Hierarch's Intervention

But behold the Hierarchs who come to our aid. They remind us of the correct meaning of the customs that we have followed and continue following. Giving us instructions so that we understand the legitimate use of ancient and current customs, they enable us to estimate ancient and present usage in its own value in all the sphere of what can be conducive to the welfare of the people.

The Hierarchs promulgate usages that peoples must follow, with due attention to their necessities, indicating at the same time the pernicious decadence that results from adhering to customs fallen into disuse; when such usage ceases in turn to be of further benefit to the people, the Hierarchs formulate other new manners and means to find what the changed conditions require.

### Religious and Social Guidance

They likewise order religious rites and social uses in harmony with the necessities of the people taken as model; and these too are revised by them during critical epochs. The usage called to increase the benefit of the race, is called technically **dharma** and that which retards such profit is called **adharma**.

What is **dharma** for one class of people, may be **adharma** for another and vice-versa; likewise what is **dharma** in one time may come to be **adharma** in another time and vice-versa. These terms are relative with respect to people.

### The Principle of Incarnation

The Hierarchs adopt some particular **dharma** for the people with due consideration to their unity during the time that runs. One or another of the Hierarchs is born in the midst of peoples and promulgates a new system of rites and social uses beneficial for them for that time, or they also influence one or more from among those same peoples to publish the necessary **dharma**.

One or another of the Hierarchs is born in the midst of peoples and promulgates a new system of rites and social uses beneficial for them for that time, or they also influence one or more from among those same peoples to publish the necessary **dharma**.

However, when persons are obsessed, so to speak, by an **adharma** and obstinately persist in it, being blinded by exclusive attachment to what may seem merely agreeable, but which in fact is ruinous for their welfare and genuine profit, **the Lord himself incarnates** and establishes the **dharma** in consonance with the necessity of the epoch.

### Divine Incarnations and Their Preparation

It can be declared here that the Ancients of the Suddha Dharma are in knowledge of when and where those Divine Incarnations are revealed to the world in the disturbing epochs of its history. Their intimate science enables them, from time to time, to reveal to men the holy advent of these powerful beings and the nature of the divine work they are going to realize, and it has always been the custom of those, to make preparations for the holy coming through severe laws of discipleship that the chosen and elect from among men bear, with joyful submission, so that the grandiose plan may be realized and oppressed humanity may continue its progressive march along the ancient and well-ordered path.

### The Universal and Particular Dharma

The **Sanatana Dharma** or **Suddha Dharma**, as it is called in another way, is the base on which each **dharma** is founded and, while the former is of universal application and acceptance, the latter is appropriate only to determined times and countries. The **Bhagavad Gita** is the revelation of the **Sanatana** or **Suddha Dharma** in its entirety, while the scriptures in vogue among peoples who profess the various religions of the world, are only partial expositions of it. The importance of the one cannot be excessively estimated, nor that of the others undervalued.

# Document 28: Through the Paths of Philosophy - Hegel's Dialectical Method

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**By Wronski, A∴M∴**

## Through the Paths of Philosophy

A new edition of Hegel's "**Philosophy of Spirit**" has just seen the light.

The celebrated philosopher — whose doctrinal system did not have, in the beginning, the merit of interesting his contemporaries — is characterized by his concept of "reality," of "being," of the "absolute" and of the relations that interweave man's life in the "cosmic" environment that surrounds him.

### Hegel's Concept of Reality

### Hegel's Concept of Reality

According to Hegel, "reality" (whose essence is truth), cannot be reached in its totality. Let us see why: The Universe constitutes a whole, whose parts are partial aspects of the total truth that expresses it; the sum of truths that can be discriminated by human intelligence will always be a part of the whole but will never encompass its totality.

### The Dialectical Method

On the other hand, the famous "Hegelian dialectic" demonstrates that any proposition, whatever it may be, can be negated by means of its contrary (which is obtained by analyzing its predicate) and that upon reuniting them they form a new proposition that concretizes the "part" of truth affirmed by each one of them.

In turn, this last proposition — which we are calling synthetic — can be negated by its contrary and, as in the previous case, the reunion or synthesis of both will give a new proposition, which in turn will have its contrary and thus **ad infinitum**.

### The Problem of Infinite Process

As is logical, each new synthetic proposition should have a truth each time more general, sum of the partial truths connoted until then; but given that the dialectical process is unlimited, it occurs that the ultimate truth (the Absolute) will never be known by any mind; which coincides with the predicate of the premise exposed previously.

Of course, in the exposed system there seems to be contained a logical contradiction. On one hand Hegel affirms that the dialectical process is unlimited and on the other he recognizes that it has the Absolute as limit. Consequently, either the Absolute is the ultimate truth or it is not; if it is, the dialectical process has an end; if it is not, then the process is infinite.

### Resolving the Paradox

What from the logical point of view results an aberration, is not so for Hegelian reasoning, since if on one side the dialectical process seems to terminate in the Absolute, it occurs on the other side that its term is infinite, given that the Absolute is equally infinite.

### The Yo and No-Yo

Another important aspect of the Hegelian system is its affirmation that the Yo (I) and the No-Yo (Not-I), both contradictory in appearance, constitute the two aspects of a synthetic entity, which Hegel denominates **act of knowledge**.

The reasoning is, in its general lines, the following: For the Yo to be able to know itself it is necessary that it distinguish itself from something that is not the yo, this is the No-Yo. But, the Yo and the No-Yo are secondary aspects of a much more elevated primary reality. This reality would be found, according to what we have advanced, in the act of knowledge, that is to say in "that" which judges about the Yo and the No-Yo. That "that" appears as anterior to the subjects of judgment and defines what?... **The Pure Being**, which is what our philosopher calls it.

### The Pure Being and Its Paradoxes

That "that" appears as anterior to the subjects of judgment and defines what?... **The Pure Being**, which is what our philosopher calls it.

### The Pure Being and Its Paradoxes

Now then, the "Pure Being" (what before was called Absolute) possesses all qualities and — here is the most paradoxical — consequently possesses none. If it lacked the quality of not having any quality, it would not possess them in "absolute" form, but in "relative" form, which is contradictory.

It is inferred from this conclusion, that the Pure Being or the Absolute is absolutely unknowable, since to know it would be to limit it, which is equivalent to negating it.

### The Final Contradiction

But if it is unknowable the mind cannot think it, and if it thinks it, it is because it is knowable in some mode, no matter which. **Ergo**: either what the mind conceives is a reality or it is not; if it is, then the Pure Being can be known; if it is not, then we find ourselves with a mental content without any logical value.

### Hegelian Resolution

The Hegelian metaphysics resolves the dilemma based, apparently at least, on the law of contraries.

Possessing the Absolute all qualities, there cannot be lacking those two that characterize the extreme opposition: the quality of being known and the quality of not being so. The synthesis of this opposition, following the dialectical method, affirms and negates at the same time the Absolute. It was the fatal consequence that could be expected from any statement about a term whose essence is infinite.

### The Absolute Greater Than Its Parts

Let us note furthermore, that the parts into which the Pure Being can be subdivided will never fill its infinitude; said in another way, the sum of the parts of the Absolute is inferior to the Absolute itself, and this for the very simple reason that a sum, however great we suppose it, constitutes a limit and the Absolute does not have one, since it is infinite. In conclusion: **the Pure Being is greater than the sum of its parts**.

### Conclusion

These brief lines try to rationalize an aspect, very little understood by its critics, of Hegel's Philosophy.

**End.**

# Document 29: Youth! Where is Your Secret? - A Mystical Poem

**Translation from "La Iniciación" Vol. 2 No. 18, October 1943**

**By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴**

**(6-4-43)**

## Youth! Where is Your Secret?

Youth! Inestimable treasure

Divine wellspring

Reveal to me your mystery!

You! who beautify with the ineffable touch

Of your magic wand of life

The body, the mind and the soul.

You! who make us live, hours

Of intense emotions

Of reverie, of love and of sweet illusions.

Why so soon

Do you go from our side?

Why, little by little,

Do you escape from us

Until one fatal day,

You abandon us forever,

Without hope of seeing you again?

The cruel mirror, reveals to us your departure

That takes away from us love

The sweet dreams, the illusions

Without hope of having them more!..

In what recondite and mysterious

The cruel mirror, reveals to us your departure

That takes away from us love

The sweet dreams, the illusions

Without hope of having them more!..

In what recondite and mysterious

Corner, do you hide?..

Tell me, to me alone, very secretly!

I will know how to keep them!

Yes, that some enjoy

The supreme joy

Of having you at their side

For a longer time

Why is it, then, that some you pamper

And others you despise?

I think, if to preserve

For a long time, your friendship

It will be necessary, to desire you and love you

And believe in you, with unbreakable faith.

I see, that you flee from the evil ones,

Selfish, gluttonous, sensual

From those attached to pleasures

Vulgar and coarse.

Will it be necessary then, to purify the body

The mind and the soul

To obtain for a long time,

Your efficacious protection?

Youth! Where is

The mysterious mystery of your life?

In the heart, in the mind,

Or in the soul?

Youth! Where is

The mysterious cause of your death?

By where, do you escape

Do you dissolve, do you volatilize?

Tell me, to me alone

Youth! Inestimable treasure

Divine wellspring

Reveal to me your mystery!
