p. 4PRAYER “Prayer is the murmur, in the human heart, of The Great Voice of Divine Love”. (Sevananda) If we meditate on the sentence that serves as epigraph to this article, several conclusions impose themselves on our consciousness: 1st.) The power of prayer resides, then, exclusively in the potency of love each heart possesses. 2nd.) There are as many prayers as there are modalities and intensities of love.
3rd.) Egoism being the opposite of love, only the prayers of the non-egoistic are really powerful. 4th.) The act of praying requiring a special state, commonly called fervour, devotion, unction, such a state is obtained only in the proportion in which the one who seeks it lives, habitually and outside of prayer, more or less egoistically.
5th.) The “mechanism” of prayer, by which, as Masters and Mystics affirm, one can reach the Providential Plane directly, is explained because it is not “something human procuring contact with The Divine” but simply THE ONLY DIVINE THING — Love — WITHIN the human being which, on entering into action, sets in vibration, across “the 7 heavens” — the source of all Love — the Providential aspect of the Divinity with one of the universal forms containing a particle of Divine Love.
6th.) The fact of praying — or believing one prays — with fervour at certain moments and of feeling completely different at others is, in the last analysis, one of the many illusions of form. In reality, at each moment of existence we have a determinate power, a determinate capacity for loving. Why not distribute it uniformly over the whole of our living?
7th.) The phrase of Zanoni to his wife — “There are beings whose thoughts and feelings are constant prayers” — gives the final key. The Initiate thinks and feels lovingly; therefore he is already a ‘little’ Providence in constant action. That suffices to explain the effect his mere presence produces.
From this whole set of conclusions — and many others can be obtained by the reader given to meditation — it is inferred that Prayer has nothing to do with knowledge, nor with mental force, nor with meditation, nor with projections of any kind. It is an act of Love. It is an act of Adoration.
And even when Prayer may at times have the aspect of altruistic solicitation — as when we ask for the cure of one in need in body or soul — in reality the mere fact of addressing The Divine with real Love, Faith, Veneration and Humility means that, implicitly, we reverence in the sick one the divine element of his life, the divine element of the life or health we ask for him, the divine and providential element of the possibility of praying, the divine element of the permission granted us to feel ourselves, for one moment at least, IMPERSONAL; and, for all this, Prayer constitutes, in itself and by itself alone, one of the most elevated Acts, if not the most elevated of all, of which a human Spirit is capable.
And if adorative prayer has come, in so many cases, to produce even levitations, it is not the phenomenon in itself that should fill us with admiration; rather we should feel,
p. 5deeply, the devotional emotion and the spiritual gratitude that it is permitted us to contemplate, on the densest plane itself, the verification that the Spirit is so powerful, so absolutely master and lord of all that is inferior to it in matter, that, when the wind of the pure Spirit blows toward its own source, as in profound prayer, it can come to carry along with it soul and body, on the wings of Purity, of Faith and of Humility of heart.
Therefore, he prays who greets with any word whatever but who, in clasping the hand, wishes the other with all his heart the best. He prays who, passing along the street, silently wishes health to the one he sees ill, clothing to the one he sees poorly covered, beauty to the one he sees deformed, gentleness to the one he sees violent, peace to the one he sees troubled.
He prays who, hearing the utterance of a sorrow, a problem, a disharmony, hopes, desires, asks, implores in the secret of his mind and heart for the re-establishment of health, of peace, of friendship. He prays who, admiring all the forms of beauty, exalts them and thanks the Creator for His Wisdom, His Prodigality, His infinite Art in disposing what is created.
He prays who, sparing of words, answers questions WITH THE HEART, completes concepts, rectifies injustices, complements thanks, makes virtually the gesture that was lacking, the word another did not say, the glance a third did not return.
He prays who, letting himself be carried by the Great Voice that Love murmurs in his Heart, tries to realise, practically or virtually, the complete picture, when the forms, gestures, words and thoughts of those who live around him seem to leave the realisation of their Archetype fragmentary. He prays who asks in secret that certain news items in the papers may not be seen by those in whom they awaken passion, violence, rancour or hatred.
He prays who, patiently, silently, endeavours to erase in hearts or minds the symptoms of separativity and provokes, without seeming to, the opportunities for reconciliation. He prays who, it having been PERMITTED him to understand and feel what is lacking in an act, what a gesture or a word “costs” morally, endeavours to perform the complementary one, the reparative one, the compensating one.
He prays who, procuring strength in his own secret prayer, succeeds in hiding his own sadnesses from others, to give life more joys, more beauty, more optimistic and creative rhythm. He prays who, fully certain that he knows nothing and can do nothing, delivers his body, his mind and his heart to the Great Direction, so that his acts of service may be Those That Must Be and not those he would do.
And if in all grave cases of any kind, Masters like Papus, Philippe (AMO), Ramakrishna and so many others raised their Silent Voice toward THE ETERNAL of Love, it is true, without error, very true, that we should aspire to be able to pray ever more and ever better. JEHEL, S.I.
p. 6PRACTICAL COURSE OF JUDICIAL ASTROLOGY Teachings of Surya S. I. THE INFLUENCE OF THE PLANETS IN EACH SIGN In our last numbers we have studied in detail the influences of the planets in each of the houses of the chart.
Let us now see the influences the different planets likewise produce in each of the twelve signs of the Zodiac, according to the nature of the sign and of the planet.
We shall begin in the same order as before with SATURN (The planet of sorrow) SATURN IN ARIES, despite finding itself weakened, gives good reasoning, balance, discretion, tact, patience and perseverance when not badly aspected, producing preachers, orators, lawyers and success in workings of the soil.
If afflicted it inclines to boastfulness and anger and gives a jealous, malicious, rancorous and vindictive disposition, causing disharmony, obstacles and a difficult life in marriage and in what relates to fortune.
SATURN IN TAURUS makes the person judicious [Sic: the Spanish prints “a 1a persona”, with a numeral], vivacious, reserved, peaceable and good, prudent, cautious, a lover of solitude, self-interested, inclined to occultism, fanatical in religion and slow of speech and in making decisions, when not badly aspected.
If afflicted, especially by Mercury, it causes difficulties in the use of speech and gives an impulsive temperament, above all if Mars also afflicts it. Being afflicted it also causes financial difficulties. SATURN IN GEMINI gives a deep mind and makes the person ingenious, observant and inclined to scientific work and the occult sciences in general, and he may come to be a skilful engineer or hypnotist, provided it is well aspected.
If afflicted it produces vexations with siblings, danger on short journeys and weakness in the lungs, and colds and catarrhs must be avoided. It is also apt to occasion vexations through jealousy or envy.
SATURN IN CANCER, although weakened, gives good judgement concerning houses, lands, mines, etc., and gains from these things, favouring savings, frugality, solid comfort in the home and a quiet, peaceful state in the last part of life, when well aspected. It makes the person jealous, fickle, discontented, desirous of changing country and with little success in projects or enterprises, when not well aspected.
If afflicted it indicates domestic infidelity and a melancholy, obstructive spouse. Domestic vexations will increase continually, health will be sickly, the stomach weak, the gums prone to pyorrhoea, and in consequence he will suffer from chronic indigestion. Saturn in Cancer also indicates religious tendency and inclination to the study of the deep sciences.
SATURN IN LEO, when not badly aspected, makes the person vivacious, generous, independent and prudent. Well aspected it gives tact, diplomacy, method, capacity, honesty and help from highly placed persons. It produces capable ministers and masters of occultism.
The physical constitution is not strong. If afflicted it makes the person cruel, impulsive, jealous, unscrupulous, employing any means to satisfy his ambitions, indicating also affections of the heart.
p. 7SATURN IN VIRGO gives studious, intuitive, reserved persons, friends of the occult sciences or metaphysics, with a systematic, economical and frugal nature, producing doctors, notaries, professors, orators and philosophers. This position gives a propensity to intestinal illnesses, their gravity being in relation to the good or bad aspects received. Being afflicted it produces melancholy, anger and a state of illnesses often imaginary.
SATURN IN LIBRA gives persons with a good opinion of themselves, a taste for discussion and controversy and many aptitudes for scientific studies, which will bring them many enemies, though in general they will enjoy esteem and popularity. It grants great beauty in a feminine horoscope. If situated at the 29 degrees of this sign, the seat of its exaltation, it raises the person to a high position only to hurl him then into misfortune.
It produces outstanding lawyers and physicians. Well aspected it gives good health, long life and a pure and chaste spouse; but being afflicted, the spouse will be a betrayer and will die prematurely, lawsuits will be unfavourable, and there will be exposure to urinary affections.
SATURN IN SCORPIO, well aspected, makes the person hard-working and persevering and gives gains through legacies, savings and frugality, the fortune increasing after marriage. It also gives good health and long life. Saturn in this sign is favourable for the study of sciences, including occultism, producing physicians, pharmacists and chemists.
Well aspected by Mars it promises successes in scientific discoveries. If afflicted it indicates a life full of difficulties and reverses, making the person quarrelsome, violent, of quick decisions and with little success in his enterprises; the spouse will be dull, egotistic and domineering, the health poor and the nervous system disturbed on account of troubles produced by constipation and haemorrhoids.
SATURN IN SAGITTARIUS gives persons of good nature, not very foresighted, attentive and disposed to do good, but inclined to anger and enduring neither slights nor insults. They will seek honours and will rise in life by their indefatigable efforts, with a tendency to try fortune, which will cause them changes of profession.
Well aspected it gives a charitable and philanthropic disposition, yearning for social welfare, producing great gains in the trade of large animals and also of racing ones. If afflicted it makes the person cynical and sarcastic, insincere, ambitious, selfish and prone to harmful lawsuits. Saturn in this sign gives a propensity to pulmonary affections.
SATURN IN CAPRICORN is strong, giving good judgement, deep thought, perseverance, a tenacious spirit, an active life and successes followed by reverses. It makes the person sad, melancholy, prudent, grave, serious and capable of repressing his anger. It produces good ministers and great merchants.
When well aspected it gives much honesty, integrity and determination to work until the proposed goal is reached. If afflicted, the person will be astute and dissembling and cannot be trusted; he will also be melancholy, will see life full of difficulties and troubles, the mind becoming sickly. SATURN IN AQUARIUS gives excellent imagination, penetration and solid judgement.
p. 8SATURN IN PISCES makes the person inconstant, fickle, often deceiving under the appearance of frankness, inclined to evil and to disputes. He will be exposed to accidents and may die drowned — all this provided it is not well aspected, for the good aspects can modify these influences and even correct in old age the malignities imprinted by this most malefic planet.
If well aspected, the person can have success in occupations in which he is not in contact with the public, as in laboratory work or in asylums. If afflicted he will have many enemies and the danger of finding himself confined by a chronic illness or of finding himself in prison. Suddha Dharma Mandalam O M SUBHAMASTU SARVAJAGATAMI THE PILGRIM OF THE FULL MOON1 Dedicated to all who believe in the power of prayer.
In the number for the last quarter of the year 1945 of the review “The Suddha Dharma”, published in India in the English language, we find the following notice: “Suddha Dharma Mandalam Association: The Director of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam Association wishes to announce that Sri VASUDEVA ROW, President of the said Association, who is at present (1945) in Madras for a short time after his first journey, is preparing to make another journey of pilgrimage into the interior of India.
His fervent desire is, while making his pilgrimage journey, to place himself in contact, if possible, with one of the Elders of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam. If this fortunately happens — and we do not doubt that the contact will be established — it may be of general benefit for the activities of this Association.
He has observed that with his repeated absences from Headquarters his existence as President lacks consistency, for which reason his desire is not to hold that office while his pilgrimage lasts and thus to be still freer to carry out his purpose. 1 The necessity of publishing this article causes us to interrupt for a short time the publication of the “Commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita Bashya”, which will be resumed in due course (Jehel).
p. 9Our respect for him is such that it is not difficult, nay, impossible, to contemplate anything against his desire or to try to find his arguments out of concordance or lacking in logic. In this way he will fulfil his ministry more quickly still.
His place will be kept vacant and, as if he were always present, the Director will continue conducting all the activities for which this Association was raised up, namely, propagation of the Suddha Philosophy and publication of liaison literature. The Director will keep in contact with the President, who he is sure will act reciprocally during his pilgrimage, which will redound to the great benefit of the said activities of this Association.
In this contact, we wish to be able to inscribe our sincere desire for his work in the teaching of the Suddha Dharma, and we desire His Blessing on this present Great Search. —— The notice reproduced above, notwithstanding its administrative and cold style as to form, has been received with loving interest by the members of the Guru Subrahmanyananda Ashrama, in Montevideo as well as in Buenos Aires and elsewhere.
We must record, with true joy, that already long before the publication of that notice and the arrival here of the review cited, the gentle and devotional figure of the Resp.
Sri Vasudeva Row had been felt by several of ours, and some were already asking that he be helped by the Guru Subramaniananda and by the Siddhas to enter into a contact so close that he might, like our Beloved Guru, be an ever more direct and powerful Channel of what the Hierarchy desires to radiate among those who seek the Suddha realisation and the spirit of its doctrine.
More recently, in the little Temple of Montevideo of the Guru Subrahmanyananda Ashrama, petitions and collective meditations were made with the aim of asking the Beloved Guru and all the Hierarchy and the Exalted Siddhas of Badari Vana that the Resp. Sri Vasudeva Row might receive all possible help in his search, and that the inspiration and protection of the Elders of the Suddha Dharma might guide him.
In one of the meetings so conducted, the hearts of all present being in tune and their minds united in the same affectionate and reverent thought toward the venerable Vasudeva Row, several of those present received clear manifestations of the presence of the Beloved Guru Subrahmanyananda, as well as a bond from Vasudeva Row himself which might be translated in these words: “I would that my heart were a Lotus, that I might offer it to you”
p. 10A vision common to several of those present showed the venerable Vasudeva in an ascent near a grotto on the flank of a mountain .... and some received the impression that, besides the Blessing of the Guru, the special protection of the Siddha YAGNANANDANA also accompanied the venerable Vasudeva Row.
The spontaneity of the desire of our dear Brothers and Sisters in this sense is so clear that it has decided me to publish this summary of facts, so that all who belong to the Suddha Dharma, in our Ashrama or in any other, and who so feel it, may add their petitions, prayers or meditations in the same sense, so that all that our mind, heart and vibration of every kind can offer may be placed at the disposal of those who watch with loving gaze over the Pilgrim of the Full Moon… And if perhaps there be no lack of those who believe that this act of loving service can do little or nothing, nevertheless those who in the Guru Subrahmanyananda Ashrama have already been able to feel, verify and live the marvel of the power of prayer and of devotion will surely have a moment of gentle daily dedication in imagining the Guru Subrahmanyananda walking, invisible to many, at the side of Vasudeva Row and guiding toward more light and more usefulness that venerable being who also has the keynote of the Guru, the keynote of the gentle Instructor who summed up the experience of a whole life of study and a whole life of action in these marvellous words: “NOW, TO PRAY FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS IS ALL MY HAPPINESS”.
Almost all who belong to the Suddha Dharma have, in other sectors, multiple opportunities to cultivate their intellectual intelligence [Sic: the Spanish prints “cu1tivar”, with a numeral], to store up definitions and doctrines, to compare and document convictions.
Let us not, then, allow this activity of ours as “Suddhists” to be channelled also into that constant employment of the mind and of reasoning, which help more than is believed to affirm the feeling of personality, when not of personalism.
To our daily practices of the Suddha Dharma, in which to concentration and meditation something of devotional vibration is always happily added, let us add something that is devotion, something that is only to feel fully, something that is really to set our heart in motion for something impersonal, pure, beautiful and useful to many.
And in that sense, I believe it difficult to imagine a happier moment than that in which we dedicate ourselves to mentalising, imagining, desiring, asking, imploring that, within the little that we are in quantity and quality, our act of love may become and be transformed, were it no more, into atoms of the grass on which the venerable Vasudeva rests on his journey.
And... it is not impossible that on the night of the Full Moon of May some — I hope many — may come to know something of what they have been permitted to do as an act of service beside the Pilgrim of the Full Moon, who seeks more Light in order to give it back again. Jehel, 14-4-46
p. 11M A H A B O D D H I S A N G H A THE WAY OF THE BUDDHA By Upasika A. M. (Bikku).
When we adopted the title “The Way of the Buddha” we had the intention of diffusing, under that title, a series of teachings of the Maha Boddhi Sangha (Great Buddhist Fraternity of the Perfect Wisdom) and, therefore, we must understand by that title “The Way of the Perfect Wisdom”, that is, the whole body of the teachings preached by that great personage and Venerable Master called Buddha. Is Buddhism really a religion?
The word “religion” is inadequate to apply to Buddhism, which is not properly a religion but rather a highly moral, mystical, spiritual philosophy... The Buddhists employ the word Agama to designate their relation with Buddhism, for that Sanskrit word signifies “to approach” or “to arrive”.
And as Buddha signifies “Illumination”, the compound word by which they are wont to designate Buddhism is Buddhagama, that is, “approach or way of Illumination”. The Buddhists, moreover, are called Vibhajja, that is, “those who analyse”. These explanations given, we shall now impart some of the teachings of the “Perfect Wisdom”.
THE PRIMORDIAL PROBLEM — The primordial problem of life is not: What is this World? but: Who am I? Consequently, knowing with exactness “who I am”, one no longer feels any interest in the world. We make clear that by “I” is understood “the human reality”, the “indestructible and immortal essence of man”.
THE EXTERIOR WORLD, THE WORLD OF OBJECTS OR OF THE SENSES, IS NOT MY I. The forms I see with my physical eyes, the sounds I sense with my ears, the odours I perceive with smell, the savours I taste with the lingual papillae, the objects I touch with my fingers, have nothing in common with my I, for if the different objects of my senses ceased to impress them, I should continue to subsist.
The only thing that would happen would be the impossibility, on the part of the I, of placing itself in relation with the physical or material world. I arrive, then, at the conclusion that this exterior world, known and familiar to me thanks to the activity of my senses, has nothing in common with my I.
IDEAS ARE NOT MY I EITHER We have not only five but seven senses, of which the first five are developed, the sixth is at the beginning of its development, and the seventh still exists “in germ”. The faculty of thinking is inherent in the very essence of my I, and the brain is only the organ or instrument of which the I avails itself to express it.
The objects of thought, in the present state of our evolution, are all the objects of the five developed senses and their causal relations. The objects and phenomena of the
p. 12external world, first sensed by the sense organs and then perceived by my brain, reach my I or consciousness in the form of mental images, and it is upon these mental images or, better said, availing itself of them, that my I creates concepts and ideas. This is the work of thought, its specific activity, which gives origin to its products: ideas.
But those ideas are not my I — first, because they are the product of my faculty of thinking, and then because I can refrain from producing them or, once produced, reject them from my consciousness. Thought has, moreover, another object: unlimited space. Space does not usually depend on the activity of the five senses, but is known immediately by “pure thought” when the activity of the senses is temporarily suspended.
Space is, in reality, the immediate object of thought and, when we begin to think, space presents itself immediately to us. As soon as thought is set in motion by an activity of the senses, we necessarily perceive space as well.
We cannot know any object that falls under the action of the senses without knowing at the same time the space within which that object is found [Editorial gloss: the Spanish prints a duplicated phrase, “los sentidos sin conocer al mismo tiempo”, transmitted as a compositor’s doubling]. Inversely, we can know space alone (without other objects) when we suspend the activity of the five senses and concentrate thought solely upon that space.
We have, then, the perception of unlimited space, and we can even separate space from our thought and, in spite of that, continue thinking. But to accomplish this prodigy we must completely suspend the activity of the senses and concentrate thought exclusively upon this idea: “Nothing now exists for me”. Space itself can then be eliminated from consciousness, only the thought subsisting: “Nothing more exists”.
And not only is it possible to eliminate space from consciousness, but we can further recognise directly and in a perfect manner that space has, objectively, nothing in common with my I. To give an example, let us imagine an impossibility: all the space outside my body is annihilated. This fact would not affect me at all.
Now it remains for us to know whether the space occupied by my body is essential to me. Let us imagine that this body, always keeping its vitality, shrinks until it reaches the dimensions of an insect. And shall “I myself” not be diminished by this reduction of my body, a reduction that has as its consequence the diminution of the space occupied by it?
I should still recognise myself as “I myself” (identically like the one I have always been) despite my more reduced body and the likewise more reduced space occupied by it. Thus, with this example it is demonstrated that space has nothing in common with my I. Space is simply a condition of the existence of my body.
This further clarification made, we can establish another point of study with the following definition: THE BODY IS NOT MY I Within what relation do I stand with my body? The body is a physical organism consisting entirely of materials of exterior nature, taken and assimilated in
p. 13such manner as to form a chemical whole called “body”. This assimilation takes place at the same time as the elimination of used materials. It is evident that what I call “my body” is manifestly and essentially foreign to me, since a short time ago all these materials were nothing more than foreign fragments of exterior nature that I have had to utilise to build it.
To make this still clearer, we have only to imagine all these materials present within my body in their original, unassimilated state. Then we shall see immediately that our blood is simply water in which are dissolved the nutritive matters introduced with food.
We shall also observe that the different tissues of our body are regenerated by that contribution of new materials; that the flow of the blood carries toward the different organs of elimination the used materials, for that very reason unfit for the conservation of the body.
The heat that fills my body [Sic: the Spanish prints “color” for “calor”] is still more foreign to me than the materials that constitute it, since heat is nothing more than the product of the chemical process of the successive combustion of those materials.
Thus we reach the conclusion that we can see the body, entire, in all its parts and organs, as an assemblage of materials taken from exterior nature, an assemblage over which “I keep watch”, that is, I regulate at once what enters and what leaves it.
From this it results in the most evident manner that I am not really an organism, but simply that I possess an organism as a means of manifestation within the physical world. (To be continued) Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arajato Samu Asam Buddjassa
p. 14THE DEMIURGE (Continuation and end) By Palingenius IV After having characterised the three Worlds and the states of the being corresponding to them, and having indicated, so far as was possible, what the being liberated from the demiurgic dominion is, we must return once more to the question of the distinction between Good and Evil, to draw some consequences from the preceding exposition.
First of all, we might be tempted to say this: if the distinction between Good and Evil is completely illusory, if it does not in reality exist, it must be the same with morality, for it is quite evident that morality is founded upon this distinction, which it essentially presupposes.
That would be going too far; morality exists, but in the same measure as the distinction between Good and Evil — that is, for all that belongs to the domain of the Demiurge; from the universal point of view it would no longer have any reason for being.
In effect, it can be applied only to action; now, action presupposes change, which is possible only in the formal or manifested; the World without form is immutable, superior to change and, consequently, to action, and that is why the being that belongs no more to the Empire of the Demiurge is without action.
This shows that great care must be taken never to confuse the diverse planes of the Universe, because what is said of one might not be true of the other. Thus morality necessarily exists on the social plane, which is essentially the domain of action; but it can exist no longer when one considers the metaphysical or universal plane, because then there is no more action.
This established, we must point out that the being who is superior to action possesses, nevertheless, the plenitude of activity; but it is a potential activity, an activity, then, that does not act. This being is, not immobile, as might unreasonably be said, but immutable, that is, superior to change. In effect, he is identified with Being, which is always identical to itself, according to the biblical formula: “Being is Being”.
This should be set beside the Taoist doctrine, according to which the Activity of Heaven is non-acting; the Sage, in whom the Activity of Heaven is reflected, observes non-action. Nevertheless, this Sage, whom we have designated as the Pneumatic or the Yogi, can have the appearances of action, as the Moon has the appearances of movement when the clouds pass before her; but the wind that drives the clouds has no influence upon the Moon.
In the same way, the agitation of the demiurgic World has no influence upon the Pneumatic. In this connection we can once more cite what Sankaratcharya said: “The Yogi, having crossed the sea of the passions, is united with Tranquillity and rejoices in the Spirit.
“Having renounced those pleasures that are born of external perishable objects, and enjoying spiritual delights, he is calm and serene as the candle beneath the extinguisher, and rejoices in his own essence. “During his residence in the body he is not affected by its properties, as the firmament is not affected by what floats in its bosom; knowing all things, he remains unaffected by contingencies”.
p. 15that is definitively liberated from form. It is a very widespread error, at least in the West, to believe that there is nothing more when there is no more form, whereas, in reality, it is form that is nothing and the formless that is everything; thus Nirvana, very far from being annihilation, as certain philosophers have claimed, is, on the contrary, the plenitude of Being.
From all that precedes one might conclude that one must not act; but that would still be inexact, if not in principle, at least in the application that one might wish to make of it.
In effect, action is the condition of the individual beings belonging to the Empire of the Demiurge; the Pneumatic or the Sage is, in reality, without action, but, so long as he resides in a body, he has the appearances of action; outwardly he is in everything like other men, but he knows that this likeness is an illusory appearance, and that suffices for him to be really liberated from action, since it is by Knowledge that liberation is obtained.
Precisely because he is liberated from action he is no longer subject to suffering, for suffering is only a result of effort and, consequently, of action; and it is in this that what we call imperfection consists, though there is in it, in reality, nothing imperfect.
It is evident that action cannot exist for him who contemplates all things in himself, as existing in the universal Spirit, without any distinction of individual objects, as these words of the Vedas express it: “Objects differ simply in designation, accident and name, as earthen utensils receive different names though they are only different forms of earth”.
Earth, the principle of all those forms, is, itself, without form, but contains them all in potency of being: such also is the universal Spirit.
Action implies change, that is, the incessant destruction of forms that disappear to be replaced by others; these are the modifications we call birth and death, the multiple changes of state through which the being must pass that has not yet attained liberation or the final transformation — employing this word transformation in its etymological sense, which is that of passage out of form.
Attachment to individual things or to essentially transitory and perishable forms is proper to ignorance; forms are nothing for the being that is liberated from form, and that is why, even during his residence in the body, he is in no way affected by its properties. “Thus he moves free as the wind, because his movements are not obstructed by the passions.
“When forms are destroyed, the Yogi and all beings enter into the essence that compenetrates all. “He is without quality and without action; imperishable, without volition; happy, immutable, without figure; eternally free and pure.
“He is like the ether that is spread everywhere and that compenetrates at once the exterior and the interior of things; he is incorruptible, imperishable; he is himself in all things, pure, impassible, without form, immutable. “He is the great Brahma, which is eternal, pure, free, one, incessantly happy, not two, existing, perceiving and without end”.
p. 16COSMIC INFLUENCES AND REACTIONS OF LIVING BEINGS. (Continuation). Influence of colours — Chromotherapy By Pitágoras, S. I.
Before occupying ourselves with how one can act therapeutically, it is necessary to know what the pathogenic causes are, where they prevalently act and what their degree of intensity is — that is, to establish the diagnosis of the illness. Only after having established it with exactness is it possible to act scientifically and obtain the greatest results.
To be able to know which vibrations are in excess or lacking, it is necessary to examine the patient from this point of view. There are several means of doing so. The surest is the direct examination of the aura; but this means cannot be generalised, because very few are the persons who can employ it, owing to the general lack of astral vision.
Other means that can be employed indifferently by all are: a) The examination of the colour of the face. b) The examination of the colour of the nails. c) The examination of the colour of the sclerotic. d) The examination of the colour of the urine and of the faeces.
To give an example of how one can establish, by those means, the lack or weakness of a certain type of vibrations, we say that if the Martian vibrations (red) are lacking or weak, the face, the nails, the sclerotic and the urine and faeces present themselves rather pale and with predominance of the opposite colour (blue).
The previous observation of the patient to establish what the deficiencies or excesses are is, then, fundamental for being able to employ Chromotherapy in a scientific and not an empirical manner, as many ignorant people do.
Only thus can the greatest possible success be obtained, and the failures avoided that are due to the previous lack of diagnosis — failures that contribute to discrediting a therapeutics so efficacious and still in its state of infancy.
After having established with exactness which are the vibrations disturbing the state of health and which the vibrations that, owing to that disturbing action, are weak or lacking in the patient, it will be possible to know which colours must be employed, whether these should be physical, astral or mental, and how to employ them.
Before occupying ourselves with physical, astral and mental Chromotherapy, it is necessary to keep always in mind that, for any form of chromotherapy, the following principle rules: When the action of a determinate vibration (colour) is weak or lacking, we must employ that colour, or neutralise, by means of opposite colours, the action of the vibrations (colours) that predominate.
PHYSICAL CHROMOTHERAPY — This form of therapeutics can be employed by all, and by the patients themselves. It consists in the employment of physical colours, which can come from various material objects. The most employed are: a) Rooms whose walls are painted with the colour one wishes to employ. b) Clothes or other objects of adornment of the colour one wishes to employ.
p. 17c) Coloured glass placed in the windows, so that the light filtering through it may give the room in which the patient resides the colour one wishes to employ. d) Coloured crystals (not painted), made with the very minerals or their salts corresponding to the colours, through which filters the light coming from an artificial source.
These applications are made in a dark room and can be general, if the coloured light acts upon the whole body of the patient, previously undressed, or local, if the coloured light acts only upon one part of the body, the other parts being kept protected against the said coloured light.
The duration of these applications is variable according to the colour and the illness, and they must be suspended if discomforts are observed on the patient’s part, which manifest themselves above all when red is employed. e) Foods or chemically inoffensive drugs whose vibrations are of the required colour. f) Clean, transparent bottles full of fresh water (better if it is dew-water) of the colour one wishes to employ, previously exposed to the solar rays for 4 hours at the minimum.
The water contained in those bottles can be used internally, taking 30 grammes every half hour or 15 to 20 grammes every quarter of an hour, or externally, in washings, employing whatever quantity one wishes. ASTRAL CHROMOTHERAPY — This form of therapeutics can be employed exclusively by the therapist and consists in the irradiation, into the aura of the patient, of astral colours previously visualised.
This therapeutics, which is much more efficacious than the physical, is nevertheless of more difficult employment, for its efficacy depends: 1) On the therapist. 2) On the exact tonality of the colour.
As to the first, we can say that the greater his power of mental visualisation and, therefore, of concentration of the colour, the more dynamic and efficacious that colour will be; and the greater the therapist’s power of projection, the more intense and efficacious will be the action of the colour that reaches the patient’s aura.
As to the tonality of the colour mentalised, visualised and projected, it proves very difficult for the therapist to establish that exact tonality which corresponds to what the patient needs. If all the ideal conditions set forth were realised, the therapeutic effect would be rapid and efficacious; since, the nearer those conditions are to the ideal, the more rapid and efficacious will the therapeutic results be.
For those who wish to employ astral Chromotherapy, we advise keeping to the following: a) To have in view discs of cardboard or of any other material on which different colours are painted.
These colours favour the mental concentration and visualisation of the colour one wishes to project into the aura of the patient, who may be present or at variable distances. b) To do exercises of mental concentration, described in almost all the treatises on human magnetism, to facilitate the concentration and projection of the colour. c) To sit in a comfortable position, to prevent any troublesome bodily sensation from hindering mental concentration; to imagine oneself as surrounded by an aura of the same colour one wishes to project at the moment of inhalation, and mentally to project that colour into the aura of the patient at the moment of exhalation. The colour can be projected:
p. 18a) Either upon the part that manifests symptoms of the illness. b) Or indifferently, into the aura of the patient. c) Or directly upon the chakra of the heart, for we know that this chakra is the best receiver and transmitter to the organism of any curative radiation the therapist sends it.
Once the coloured vibration has reached the aura, it will act re-establishing the vibratory equilibrium or, at least, diminishing that disequilibrium, which will have repercussions upon the patient in manifestations of improvement in his illness.
MENTAL CHROMOTHERAPY — This form of therapeutics too can be employed exclusively by the therapist, and consists in the irradiation, on the mental plane of the patient, of thoughts previously dynamised in the mind of the therapist. All that we have said with regard to astral Chromotherapy holds for mental Chromotherapy.
The only difference consists in this: while in the first the therapist limits himself solely to the concentration, visualisation and projection of the colour, in the second the therapist limits himself exclusively to the concentration and projection of a determinate thought without concerning himself at all with the colour that thought may have.
In mental chromotherapy, then, what has importance is the quality of the thought, that is, its meaning. In effect, the colour of the thought depends on its quality; the form depends on the precision with which it is concentrated in the mind; the duration, of ephemeral or lasting action, depends on the lesser or greater force of projection; and the direction depends on the will that directs it in one sense or another.
Illness being a disharmony, it is clear from what has been set forth that in the mind of the patient there exist disharmonic thoughts, and that, therefore, the only thought that can act therapeutically is a harmonising thought. And for a thought to be able to act harmonising, it must be true, loving, just and beautiful.
So that profane readers may not think that all we have just set forth is the fruit of our imagination, we say that telepathy is now universally admitted by men of science, and that Prof. Calligaris, of the University of Rome, has discovered experimentally a cutaneous plaque whose excitation permits the mental transmission of red from one subject to another placed at a distance of 1 metre to 10 kilometres.
This plaque, says Calligaris, is found on the inner side of the left thigh, 2 cm. in front of its lateral line [Sic: the Spanish prints “latera1”, with a numeral], on a horizontal plane passing almost half a cm. above the knee, that is, two transverse fingers above the fold of the knee.
The subject who transmits contemplates the red colour [Sic: the Spanish prints “rolo” for “rojo”], and the excitation of the plaque by a weak faradic current, or simply by a cold object, makes him feel a sensation of burning in the eyes, pains in the thenar and hypothenar eminences of the hands, paraesthesias in the right parietal region of the skull.
p. 19permit the colours of thoughts to be seen. In effect, Calligaris says that if one applies, upon a plaque existing on the left hand of the perceiver which, sensitised, permits a loving feeling to be captured, a disc of paper of the same colour corresponding to that feeling, that is, a rose colour, the reception of that feeling is facilitated.
On the contrary, if one applies upon that plaque the opposite colour corresponding to the opposite feeling, that is, a vivid red corresponding to hatred, then the loving message will be blocked; the receiver can no longer receive that feeling and the one transmitting it can no longer transmit it.
The blocking of the feeling can also be obtained if, after the sensitisation of the plaque, the receiver looks at the colour opposite to the feeling transmitted to him by another. In that case, not only is the transmitted feeling no longer captured, but there is born in the soul of the receiver the feeling corresponding to the opposite colour he looks at.
We say, in passing, that the colour corresponding to pain is violet and that its opposite, corresponding to pleasure, is blue; the colour corresponding to an emotive excitation is dark red with spots, and its opposite, corresponding to calm and sleep, is grey, etc. The message can also be intercepted if the disc of paper is placed, not upon the plaque of the receiver, but upon the sensitised plaque of the transmitter.
In this case, if the colour of the paper corresponds to the message one wishes to transmit, the transmission is facilitated, and if it is of the opposite colour, it prevents it. If the transmitter mentalises a thought or feeling he wishes to transmit and at the same moment looks at the colour opposite to that thought or feeling, the transmission is not accomplished.
If, while the transmission of a feeling is being accomplished between two subjects facing each other, in a straight line, at a maximum distance of 10 metres, a third person interposes between the two a paper with the colour corresponding to the feeling transmitted, the transmission is facilitated; and if he interposes the paper with the colour opposite to that feeling, the transmission is intercepted.
The experiment always gives a result, whatever the size of the coloured paper and at whatever point it be placed between the two subjects, but the optimum is found at one metre, before the left hand of the receiver. (Calligaris — “Telepatía e radioonde cerebrali”, pp. 208 to 210).
We say, finally, that the cutaneous plaque whose stimulation makes one see the colours of one’s own thoughts is a plaque of almost 1 cm. in diameter and is found on the inner surface of the right leg, half a cm. in front of the lateral line, on a plane passing half a cm. below the lower border of the knee.
If sensitised with a weak faradic current, this plaque — which vibrates permanently owing to the fact that thought is in continuous activity — makes the subject feel pains in the left lumbar region, ocular pains, tingling in the great toes and in the little toes of both feet, and he sees the irradiations of his own thought with all the corresponding colours in continuous change.
p. 20From all that has been set forth, we can reach the conclusion: 1) To every thought corresponds a colour. 2) To every variation of thought corresponds a variation of colour. 3) To every feeling corresponds a colour.
4) To every variation of feeling corresponds a variation of colour. 5) Every thought provokes in the same subject an emotive and physical state corresponding to the thought and of the same colours as that thought. 6) Every feeling provokes, in the same subject, the corresponding thought and physical state, with corresponding colours.
7) Every physical state provokes the corresponding thought and feeling, with corresponding colours. 8) Thought, feeling and physical state, with their corresponding colour, can be transmitted to others. The transmission is facilitated if the corresponding colour is employed and obstructed if the opposite colour is employed.
9) Thought, feeling and sensation act upon the same subject and upon others. 10) Every incorrect thought (error), every incorrect feeling (hatred), and every incorrect sensation (pain), are neutralised, in the same subject and in others, by means of opposite thoughts, feelings and sensations (truth, love, pleasure). (To be continued) __________ THE ANGELS PASS For Lydia and Augusto, in the hour of the passing of their Son.
I shall hear in the night your words …child, my child... Pablo Neruda — I — Over dawns of matins the Angels walk. Toward what territories of music and laurels do they bear their immense, transparent peace?
Beside what latitudes of stricken sleeplessness do they go with the intact spikenard of their history? In mirrors they behold themselves anew and, in perpetual quietude, they remember us. But they never sleep: they claw at our blood full of bitter dregs;
p. 21they climb up through our sweet springtimes of dream, and in our sleepwalking, frozen lime, they sob. And one day they are there again, with their sad blindness of roots, pressing upon the road of the wounds. — II — The Angels are ours; they are our broken wings; they are the anchors asleep on roofs of rust, in the sorrowful root of the earth.
It is our voice of mist and of distance — the one we could not use in the instant of choosing the seafaring road. The eyes of the Angels do not sleep; they are in our brackish orbits, seeking the necessary reverse of the light. And their lips submissively choose the words that name the dwelling of sleep.
Their hands are jasmines sealed with silence beside a cross of snow, eternal and pure. — III — The Angels are always sailing... A necessary happening calls them toward sure islands of memory and nostalgia. Burning Roses of the Winds grow upon the breast freed of early marbles, and a remote music of compasses traces for them transparent itineraries toward grieving courses of desolate moons.
They are among archipelagos of shadows, reigning over amperes of glacial contours. They cross the absorbed dimension of the air, and the numerous dawn that bears them is illumined with blue birds.

imponen a nuestra conciencia:

SATURNO EN TAURO, hace a 1a persona criteriosa, vivaz, reservada, pacífica y
independiente y prudente. Bien aspectado da tacto, diplomacia, método, capacidad,
honradez y ayuda de personas altamente situadas. Produce ministros capaces y maestros de
ocultismo.
produciendo doctores, escribanos, profesores, oradores y filósofos.
enfermedades muchas veces imaginarias.
egoísta y propensa a litigios perjudiciales.
Produce
buenos ministros y grandes comerciantes.
oratoria deliberada y distinguida y buenos amigos pudientes e intelectuales, generalmente

estudio y de toda una vida de acción en esas maravillosas palabras;
“AHORA, ORAR POR EL BIEN DE LOS DEMAS ES TODA MI
FELICIDAD”.

pues dicha palabra sánscrita significa “aproximarse” o “llegar”.

De todo lo que precede se podría llegar a la conclusión de que no hay que obrar;
figura; eternamente libre y puro.
Por Pitágoras, S. I.
colores astrales previamente visualizados.
presente o a distancia variables.
sujeto a otro.

2 Ver Prof. Giuseppe Calligaris — Telepatía e radio-onde cerebrali, p. 174 a 176
(Calligaris — “Telepatía e radioonde cerebrali” p. 208 a 210).
distancias mayores, etc. (Ver Calligaris — Telepatía, etc., p. 263 a 268.)
p. 140–142(Ver Calligaris — Telepatía, etc., p. 263 a 268.)
pensamientos, sentimientos y sensaciones opuestos (verdad, amor, placer).

PASAN LOS ANGELES
Para Lydia y Augusto, en la
hora del tránsito del Hijo.
Escucharé en la noche tus palabras
…niño, mi niño...
Pablo Neruda
— I —
arañan nuestra sangre llena de amargas heces;
suben par nuestras dulces primaveras de sueño,
y en nuestra cal sonámbula y helada.
sollozan.
Y un día están, de nuevo,
con su ceguera triste de raíces,
oprimiendo al camino de las llagas.
— II —
Los Ángeles son nuestros; son nuestras alas rotas;
Es nuestra voz de niebla y de distancia;
--esa que no pudimos usar en el instante
de elegir el camino marinero.
Los ojos de los Ángeles no duermen;
