no has desaparecido.

Enseñanzas de Surya. S:: I::

florida, aspecto altivo y austero, vitalidad vigorosa.
FAZ 1ª (0’ A 5’): Persona chica y fuerte, bien hecha, rostro cuadrado y colorido,
cabellos castaños y ondulantes, conjunto bien proporcionado, nariz bien hecha, ojos
FAZ 4ª (16’ a 20’): Persona alta y flaca; frente amplia, cabellos castaños, rostro
largo, tez pálida, que come y bebe mucho.
gruesa, tez morena y rostro agradable.
empresas y eleva frecuentemente a elevada posición social.
INFLUENCIAS DE LAS FACES DE LEO EN EL ASCENDENTE
(según viejos autores)
Primera faz: Persona arrojada, atrevida e imprudente, que nada respeta y juzga
temerariamente.

p. 4Martines de Pasqually, by Pitágoras S∴I∴ — Who wert thou, strange man, enigmatic and mysterious, who left us not even a portrait, and of whom not even thy disciples made a physiognomic description?
Who wert thou, "sorcerer or the devil himself in person", as the pious and mystical abbé Forunier believed thee to be on knowing thee? [Sic: printed Forunier, for Fournier.] Who wert thou, "mysterious personage come from no one knows where, who is found everywhere or who can be found nowhere", as one of thy illustrious biographers, Adolfo Franck, said?
Who wert thou, man of whom the strangest legends have run from mouth to mouth — legends which, when thou heardest them, made thee smile? Come from no one knows where, thou didst pass the greater part of thine existence as a true Unknown Philosopher, as an authentic Unknown Superior, as a real Philosopher of Unity. Thy life, for the very little we know of it, was a life of sufferings, of privations, of miseries, of anguish.
Thy life was dedicated, in the supreme forgetting of thy Personality, to work, to teaching, to the fulfilment of thy noble mission of sowing in the arid hearts and in the cold minds of men a seed of Truth and of Love. Thy life passed, like that of all the Great and True Initiates, like a sudden ray of most luminous Light arisen in the immense obscurity of ignorance and in the glacial cold of hearts without Love. For thee it was suffering.
For the infinite train of thy disciples it was a ray of Light and a wave of Love. Afterwards… on a far-off island… at Port-au-Prince… while the year 1774 was running… on a 20th day of September… thou didst disappear. Without leaving traces.
Just as thou hadst come. To return to the lofty Region whence thou hadst come. And, on earth, in an unknown place, thou didst abandon thy mortal remains.
Since then 170 years have passed. But what is time for the life of the Soul and of the Spirit? Thy memory is more alive than ever in thy far-off disciples, in the Martinists of today who, following thy example, also pass as thou didst among men… unknown… invisible….
Radiating for their blind and sorrowing brothers, as thou didst, Love and Truth. Martínes de Pasqually. Human synthesis of Christic Love and of the Pure Spirit, thou hast not disappeared.
Thou who representest in the Invisible the Divine Incarnation, thou livest unceasingly in each one of us. May all our joy, made fruitful by all thy sorrows, continue to magnetise our Action toward thy Astrality. Amén et Aum · 4
p. 5Practical Course of Judicial Astrology — Teachings of Surya. S∴I∴ We shall pass today to the study of the influences of the 5th Zodiacal Sign: LEO or the Lion. The Rosicrucian J.
Burgoyne, author of the "Light of Egypt", tells us that the sign of Leo symbolises strength, courage and fire. The hottest part of the year — in the northern hemisphere — falls when the Sun passes through that sign.
It is the solar Lion of the mysteries which ripens, by its own inner heat, the fruits born of the moisture of Isis. [Sic: the Spanish prints cu for su, and color for calor.] Kabbalistically, the sign of Leo signifies the heart of the Grand Man, and represents the vital centre of the fluidic circulatory system of humanity. It is also the fiery vortex of physical force.
For this reason, those born under this influence are notable for the vital strength of their physical constitution, and also for the marvellous faculty of recovering their forces when these have been exhausted by illness. The sign of Leo, on the esoteric planisphere, is occupied by Judah, of whom his father, on dying, says: "Judah is a lion’s whelp; thou comest up from the prey, my son. He stooped down, and couched as a lion".
That sign reveals to us the mysteries of the ancient sacrifice and the laws of compensation. The mystic gem of the Lion is the ruby, which constitutes a powerful talisman for resisting illness, for all those born under the influence of the Lion. That sign is the second emanation of the Fiery Triplicity: it is the house of the Sun.
On the intellectual Plane, the Lion represents the sympathy of the heart. Those born in it are generous, even to excess, toward their friends. By nature they are profoundly sympathetic, and possess that peculiar degree of magnetic force which renders them capable of setting in motion the sympathies latent in others.
As orators their style is usually ardent, impulsive and moving. An extraordinary specimen of beautiful "leonine" eloquence is found in Genesis, chapter 44. That simple, eloquent appeal of Judah to Joseph remains unequalled in its sublime tenderness.
Those born under Leo are impulsive and passionate, honest and faithful. Their intellectual faculties strive always to reach a higher state, which makes their ideas vast, majestic and grandiose; they always exceed their possibilities and means.
On the physical plane. [Sic: the Spanish prints le for el.] The Lion generally gives tall stature, broad shoulders, large and prominent eyes, an oval face, a ruddy complexion and shining hair, generally golden, especially in the first twenty degrees. In the last ten, the stature is smaller but the type remains analogous: all heart, of resolute character, haughty and ambitious.
Among plants, this sign rules anise, chamomile, the primrose, asphodel, dill, the dog-rose, esfasia [Sic: so printed, probably for eufrasia, eyebright], fennel, cabbage, lavender, mistletoe, mint, parsley and pimpernel. Among stones: hyacinth, chrysolite and all light-yellow minerals such as ochre.

Por Asuri Kapila S:: I::
obedezca a nuestra Voluntad.

p. 6THE DECANATES OF LEO ON THE ASCENDANT (according to Julevno). Leo bestows, in general, an ample stature, strong shoulders, broad chest, florid complexion, a haughty and austere aspect, vigorous vitality. Character: firm, cold, frank, affable, quick to anger, good and brave.
The person is generally active, of good judgment, ambitious, artistic. That sign rules the heart and the sword, and has the Sun for "lord".
The first decanate of Leo (first 10 degrees) lies under the influence of Saturn; it gives a character difficult to define, lacking self-confidence, distrustful, not very sympathetic, harmed by an ill-understood self-regard, extremely independent, industrious and prudent, but one who rarely finishes what he begins.
That decanate produces many disturbances in life: poverty, domestic worries, losses of children, disappointments and risky speculations. The second decanate (degrees 11 to 20) is influenced by Jupiter; it gives a good, adventurous nature, fortunate in speculations, in inheritances, gains and marriage, devoted to the family and a lover of the fine arts.
The third decanate (degrees 21 to 30): influenced by Mars; it indicates a frank and generous temperament, strong, with a tendency and capacity for commanding and directing. It indicates numerous journeys and success in foreign countries, as well as inheritances and the acquisition of goods toward the end of life.
IF WE CONSIDER THE "FACES" OF LEO (divisions of 5’), we shall see that, according to classical opinions gathered by Dr. Salmón, they indicate: 1st FACE (0’ TO 5’): A small and strong person, well made, a square and ruddy face, chestnut and wavy hair, a well-proportioned whole, a well-made nose, agreeable eyes, vermilion lips, ease of expression.
The first degree makes one stouter and of more rigid bearing; the second darkens the complexion, the fourth browns the face and marks it with smallpox; the fifth lightens the complexion, but causes dishonour in a feminine figure. 2nd FACE (6’ to 10’): Medium stature, a set of agreeable features, fine skin, rounded face, fair hair, grey-blue eyes, a body well erect and of full forms which grow stout with the years.
The eighth degree makes one stronger and the ninth gives more rigidity. 3rd FACE (11’ to 15’): A browner complexion, dark hair, broad forehead, thick eyebrows, black eyes, a mark on the left side of the chin, tall stature with an appearance of weakness. Degree 12 gives very tall stature; degrees 10 and 11 give more bulk and darken the hair.
This face is of the nature of Moon and Venus and gives love for the liquid element, causing also intemperance. 4th FACE (16’ to 20’): A tall and thin person; ample forehead, chestnut hair, long face, pale complexion, one who eats and drinks much. Degree 17 makes one stronger; 19, larger and of dark complexion; 16 gives a shorter and stouter stature.
Degree 15 answers exactly to the data of the face. The influence of Uranus, preponderant in this face, gives great vivacity and an arrogant character. 5th FACE (21’ to 25’): An agreeable person, large, robust, affable, with chestnut hair, having a certain majesty in gait and manners.

p. 76th FACE (26’ to 30’): A large person, of dark complexion, with smallpox marks, with black eyes and hair; the men are strong, legs and arms short, the gait brisk. Degree 30 makes it smaller and darker; 26, larger and of lighter complexion; 28 makes it smaller, darker, and if the Moon is present indicates modesty; 27 gives a thick waist, dark complexion and an agreeable face.
In degree 28 is found Regulus or the Lion’s Heart, a fixed star of the vibration of Mars and Jupiter, which indicates success in projects and enterprises and frequently raises to an elevated social position. INFLUENCES OF THE FACES OF LEO ON THE ASCENDANT (according to old authors). First face: A bold, daring and imprudent person, who respects nothing and judges rashly.
Second face: A gentle, obliging, devoted person, but without will. Third face: A wise, prudent and discreet person, without malice, but who knows how to defend himself if occasion arises. Fourth face: A skilful person, malicious and astute, insinuating, who seeks to profit from others.
Fifth face: A serious, honest person, of elevated sentiments and gifted with persuasive eloquence. Sixth face: An envious, wicked, slanderous person, who rejoices in the misfortune of others. [Sic: the conjunction is printed twice.] THE FACES OF LEO ON THE MIDHEAVEN.
First face: It can grant success in the military profession, through feminine protection, but causes many enmities. [Sic: printed pro, for pero.] If Saturn is found there: disfavour; Mars: ruin and fall, collapse of position; Jupiter: more duration of position, which the Sun also indicates. If the person is of modest origin, he may become a chemist, a dentist, or a skilled artisan or worker in metals.
Second face: It grants the protection of women of position; and, in the case of persons born in a modest milieu, success may be attained in professions related to decoration, tailoring, fashion, etc., their triumph being certain unless Saturn should occupy this face. Third face: Possible success in military life, but with danger of death or of falling into disgrace. In a feminine figure, it indicates marriage with a military man.
Fourth face: Favourable for obtaining the protection of influential persons; it generally indicates physicians, chemists, pharmacists, and causes rivalries and jealousies. Fifth face: It promises honours and elevation far above the condition in which the person is born, who will become a skilful advocate, an esteemed public man, a magistrate of renown, a distinguished priest or an initiate of rank.
Sixth face: It usually indicates workers in textiles and commercial employees of the same kind. When Mercury is found there, it will indicate men of business, notaries and court clerks, and police officials.
p. 8Love and Morals, Fundamental Pillars in Yogic Evolution.
By Asuri Kapila S∴I∴ Beginning students of Yoga who start to come into contact with the teachings of yogic science that explain the meaning of life and the method of human evolution frequently have the idea that there exist special systems or formulas which the Instructors can pour into them if they so request, and which can be used as a key to "open" or "awaken" chackras. [Sic: so printed, for chakras.] They think that, availing themselves of that key, they can rapidly develop clairvoyance, marvellous powers and a great spiritual power.
How grave an error! It is well to bear in mind, in order to avoid future disillusionments and to profit by the time that might be lost in vain gropings, that the doors of the hidden knowledge cannot be opened, nor rapid progress made in the development of the divine powers, without the primordial basis of a strict morality, of a pure heart and of a mind no less pure.
Therefore, the aspirant to yogi must discard every pretension to indirect knowledge of immediate effect, for the Instructor or Master must only point out the road by which the disciple will be able to help himself, and indicate to him that the knowledge of the path to follow will come to him in exact proportion to the eagerness of his desire to attain it.
The Master will only point out certain precepts that must be practised in order to obtain the knowledge of such spiritual evolution.
It is very important for the student of Yoga to inform himself well in what refers to occultist literature, to obtain a general culture, so as to understand from every angle, in a scientific and practical way, the knowledge to be received; but it must never be forgotten that there are methods which must be practised as those truths are acquired, so as to experience them and live them, thus adjusting to them the actions of daily living.
Fortunate will be the being who can combine his inner spiritual development in perfect harmony with intellectual acquisition and his daily conduct. To penetrate into the terrain of this knowledge without refining oneself morally and inwardly, using it for the evolution of one’s own character, is bad — worse, perhaps, than to remain ignorant of it, because responsibility is measured by the capacity for understanding.
The idea of putting the student rapidly in possession of spiritual powers is as erroneous as to suppose that a university diploma could be granted to a child who is beginning to read and write. The point that must be well understood is that the road to · 8

Suddha Dharma Mandalam

p. 9follow is to arrive at Yogism through one’s own spiritual development, and not by means of the immediate opening of the astral life. Of most precious realisation is the power the Yogi acquires of helping in the astral body while his body rests during the night. Certain occult traditions hold that it is during the night, when his physical body reposes, that the true Yogi is more active than ever.
The generality of human beings do not even suspect how many works are performed for the good of beings in the silent stillness of the night. While all rest, the Yogi, "chelas" or "Guru" or "Adept", works intensely, succouring the sick and performing works to help human evolution so far as is possible. But, to succeed in being an Invisible Protector, one must begin by being a visible protector.
It is necessary to cultivate the noble desire to help, exercising our generous impulses upon all the beings around us with absolute impartiality, with intense Love, with gentleness, understanding, tolerance and disinterestedness. Giving generously his time, his ideas and his knowledge, the Yogi must practise, before receiving the knowledge, the fraternal precept: "Do not do unto others what you would not like them to do unto you".
To grant, in friendship, liberty, confidence and respect. Not to mock the awkward or ridiculous situations of others, not to take into account our personal convenience or comfort, and not to use violent trampling as an instrument, at the cost of others.
If these reasons are not taken into account, should the aspirant to Yogi have advanced in his knowledge, if he does not practise these virtues he may suffer a violent fall, with disastrous results for him.
When we have learned and practised service on the physical plane, when we have applied the knowledge to daily life in the small tests each hour offers us, and are true servers and not merely covetous of marvellous powers, we shall have taken the first sure step on the yogic path; and our noble desire to know and acquire knowledge will have a swifter effect than we suppose.
The second step, somewhat difficult also, is to control the physical body and make it obey our Will. Resistance to evil will each time be less necessary, since good habit goes on forming a personality sufficiently pure to free itself automatically from base impulses. The daily futilities thus lose their power to trouble us, and we no longer lose the tranquillity and harmony of which, before, they so easily made us their victims.
In this way the aspirant to Yogi acquires mastery of the first elements which will convert him, with time, into the perfect or unalterable being that characterises those who have already attained Wisdom. He will be empowered to direct the astral and physical mechanism through which his Ego functions.
It almost always happens that it is by small efforts sustained and surmounted, rather than by grand attitudes, that the profitable result of the new powers being developed is seen.
To pass onward through the portal of evolution toward which the steps of the participant in Yoga are directed, these are not determined by any supreme action, but by the determination of the noble thoughts, actions and desires of daily life; and it is precisely these that make evident, hour by hour, day by day, the progress in the capacity of his judgment, his sincerity, his courage and his patience in the unfolding of his apprenticeship. Thus he will go on preparing himself for the greater tests that will make him worthy of greater powers as well.
respectivamente:
Narada, Vamadeva, Kasyapa, Chanda Bhanuka, Kaladeva, Subrahmanya y
Devapi.
ajuste de esta Yoga Brahman Vidya en cuanto debe ajustarse a los varios ciclos y tiempos;
Cada grupo desempeña por turno el oficio durante un período de mil Sankalpas;

b) LOS TREINTA Y DOS SIDDHAS
Madhunatha.

p. 10All this work done at the beginning will avoid tribulations and will later bring him the greatest satisfactions. The reward of his troubles will be, in truth, superior to the sacrifices. [Sic: printed seré, for será.] It helps the student, when he comes into contact with the spiritual science of Yoga and begins to travel the road in search of its light, to pause and meditate on which are the traits he lacks, and firmly to resolve to acquire them.
In general it is not difficult to find some weak points. Might it be some lack of moral courage? Are we perhaps cowards about expressing some opinion that is not to people’s liking but that needs to be said?
Does one stand firm in defence of the Truth, or take refuge in comfortable silence when conscience cries out that one must speak? One must be courageous with oneself, probe without benign concessions within ourselves, and recognise our defects with entire loyalty in order to be able to remedy them. One must also recognise the virtues and be glad to possess them, because to be virtuous is to be less bad toward others.
Examine each point in a balanced way, down to those we consider of little importance — that is, the neglect of time: is each hour of waking consciousness truly valued? Thus, many are the beings who drift along without objective or definite course. That produces very little and poor progress.
He who makes good use of his time accelerates his evolution and his progress. When the student begins to value his hours, he devotes those of the night as well, to profit by them in the attainment of his knowledge. Giving time all the value it deserves, let us not take from others that which belongs to them without justified reasons or motives.
Let us have a sense of responsibility for our conduct toward others; and, to conclude, the Yogi must carry out with perseverance all that may better his spiritual qualities, strengthen his character, orient his actions — because great deeds are the patrimony only of strong souls, and only by the constant surmounting of the small daily deeds is strength obtained; and if we cannot lord it over the small struggles, how shall we pretend to master the great ones? [Editorial gloss: the Spanish sentence is defective as printed.] To be a Yogi is no easy thing, but it is beautiful to attain perfection, knowledge, the powers, and above all to be empowered to look out upon the marvellous world that surrounds us and that our physical senses limit for us — senses perfect for our common necessities, but imperfect for taking flight toward the planes where the horizons have no end and happiness is an eternal perfection. Influencias Cósmicas y Reacciones de los Seres Vivientes.
Radiaciones terrestres
(Continuación).
Por Pitágoras S:: I::

p. 11Suddha Dharma Mandalam (Generalities — Continuation). Although known as Náráyana, He has manifested Himself as Dakshinamurti and also as the Kumaras. In an exposition of the Sanatana Dharma Dipika we find that "Náráyana, Kumara and Dakshinamurti are shown by the Srutis as the dispensers of Wisdom.
Bhagavan Náráyana is the three steps and the ancient one". The three are the Great Masters of Initiation. Dakshinamurti is represented as a tender child beneath a Banyan tree, with the Mauna Mudra.
The well-known Sloka describes him thus: "There, seated at the root of the Banyan tree, are the disciples and the master — the former old, and the latter young. What a marvel! — the Guru teaches by silence, and the doubts of the pupils are dispelled". Dakshinamurti is the master of that form of Initiation which teaches the final truth.
The term Mauna signifies the nature of the absolute which surpasses all expression, and in this aspect the Lord bears the Mauna Mudra or the symbol. [Editorial gloss: the Spanish sentence is defective as printed.] He teaches the final truth of inseparability. Dakshinamurti represents the aspect of Rudra, because he destroys Avidya, or ignorance, the last chain that must be let fall before evolution is complete.
The other manifestation of Náráyana is as Nara and Náráyana. Although one and the same in essence, they are two in aspect. Nara acts as representative of Humanity on the globe, presenting to Náráyana the particular necessities of the race.
Náráyana also manifests Himself as the four Kumaras. They represent only the Gnana, or Wisdom aspect, of the Lord. They are thus related to the Brahmic or creative function.
Communicating science to the aspirants, the Lord in this aspect enables them to travel the narrow path of liberation. Manifesting Himself in these three aspects, the Lord Náráyana performs the functions necessary for the progress of the various classes of aspirants: as Dakshinamurti, He is the master of all the Yogis who have renounced the world and find themselves on the path of Nivritti.
It is the Lord Náráyana in company with Yoga Devi whom the members of the Mandalam invoke, because it is only in this aspect that He constitutes Himself the Dispenser of Spiritual prosperity, and of material prosperity as well. · 11
p. 14–1514

p. 12Associated with the Lord Náráyana are found the four Manus and the seven Great Hierarchs, known as the Sapta Rishis. These descended with Him at His advent upon the face of this globe. The four Manus are those who have understood the signification and sense of all the Vedas and Shatras, and who always bring to the Lord’s knowledge the existing conditions and the particular nature of the Dharma adaptable to the epoch.
The Sanatana Dharma Dipika refers to them, calling them the four Karyadarsis, or Secretaries. Here it must be noted that the Manu of the Manú Smrtí, or Code of Manu, on which the principles of Hindu Law are based, is none of these. He is only one of the descendants in the lowest line of these four great Manus.
The Sapta Rishis, or seven Hierarchs, or the Lords of the seven Worlds or Rays, are the functionaries who likewise came together with the Lord Náráyana. They are called respectively: Narada, Vamadeva, Kasyapa, Chanda Bhanuka, Kaladeva, Subrahmanya and Devapi. Among these, Narada is the Being charged with wisdom.
Vamadeva answers for the adjustment of this Yoga Brahman Vidya insofar as it must be adjusted to the various cycles and times; Kasyapa is the director of the masters of Yoga, while Chanda Bhanuka frequently proves and examines everything concerning the work of the system of Yoga as it is taught in the Mandalam. To Kaladeva falls the observation of this ancient science, and he removes every obstacle in the path of its progress.
Subrahmanya1 is engaged in the effective diffusion of the divine truth everywhere, discharging at the same time the office of purifier. Devapi, as representative of Náráyana, governs in this world and pours out the divine science among humankind. Each of the seven great Hierarchs has under his orders eighteen persons as secretaries.
Taking one from each of the seven bodies of secretaries, a group is formed, so that there are eighteen groups of seven persons each. Each of these groups successively discharges the office of the Sapta Rishis and actively carries out the work of their respective chiefs. Each group discharges the office in turn for a period of a thousand Sankalpas; the Sankalpa is a unit of time composed of twenty-four years.
On the expiry of the period in which the eighteenth group has held the office, the first group takes it again, and so on successively. This cycle is maintained while the Great Being known by the name of Bhagavan Náráyana continues to hold the position of Director of the Hierarchy charged with this Globe.
When His cycle of 24,000 sankalpas is complete, He will depart from this world to other spheres whose destinies He will have to direct, and with Him will depart His lieutenants. A new Advent will take place on this earth, and with Him will arrive His own Officers, the four Manus and the Great Sapta Rishis.
1 It does not refer to Sri Subrahmanya Iyer (Swami Subrahmanyananda), who was President of the High Court of Justice of Madras, and who proclaimed to the world the existence of the S. D. M., as External Initiator.

p. 13There also exist, in the Lord’s company, thirty-two Siddhas who, by virtue of their own efforts, have raised themselves to the state fit to receive the influence of the Lord Náráyana, Nara, Dakshinamurti and the Kumaras. Among these thirty-two there are six in whom the feminine principles predominate. These are particularly used by Sri Yoga Devi as vehicles for communicating with the outer world.
The Hierarchy which has charge of the spiritual government of the world is formed by: Bhagavan Náráyana in his aspects of Dakshinamurti, Nara-Náráyana, by the four Kumaras, together with the four Manus, and the Sapta Rishis or Lords of the Seven Rays, in company with these thirty-two powerful Siddhas. b) THE THIRTY-TWO SIDDHAS.
The Siddhas, or Adepts, are those advanced Great Beings who are always watching over the welfare of humanity, and all their activities tend to this purpose. Though in an equal state, the Mahatma differs from the Siddha in that the former devotes himself to his atmic or spiritual advancement, while the Siddha occupies himself in the cause of humanity. An individual will be a Siddha or a Mahatma according to his work at the time.
Prominent among these Siddhas are the thirty-two who inhabit the region of Visala Badari.
During the celebration of the Full Moon of Vaisakh, each year, in Visala Badari, as also on other important occasions, the Lord Náráyana, Yoga Devi and Others who are present in their own bodies in Uttara Badari take part in these celebrations, covering with their powerful influence one or another of the thirty-two Siddhas who by their own efforts have become worthy of it.
These are called respectively: Naradéva, Madhushyanda, Tepana, Navanayakas, Rangadéva, Dévapi, Váyana, Yagnanandana, Narmada, Mókshadeva, Nárada, Rama, Yajnada, Nákshara, Chadrabanu, Badara, Dasanatha, Rinkana, Vanajékshana, Nandi, Nagárjuna, Tháni, Yóganáyaka, Ghispati, Nandirát, Panasa, Tapaprabhu, Yéranda, Nandibara and Madhunatha. p. 14Cosmic Influences and Reactions of Living Beings. Terrestrial radiations (Continuation). By Pitágoras S∴I∴ INFLUENCE UPON ANIMALS.— Upon animals also the terrestrial radiations make their influence felt.
The observations made in this direction are many. We limit ourselves solely to setting forth some of them.
Thus, for example, it is known that before rain the pigeons gather on roofs or trees and orient themselves toward the east; the bees return to their nest with very scanty booty and well before sunset; the hens of the "guinea" kind peep; the chicks roll in the dust and bristle their plumage; the swallows fly close to the ground, etc. All these phenomenal manifestations of the animals become comprehensible if we reflect that animals in general are very sensitive to the telluric radiations, and that these are modified in their direction and intensity shortly before storms and earthquakes break out.
It is known that all these manifestations — true reflexes of the terrestrial radiations upon the animals — were very specially observed by the ancients, and especially by the Chaldeans, Etruscans and Romans, who availed themselves of them to make forecasts not only of meteorological conditions but also to obtain data that might lead them to take, or not, the resolution of putting some particular project into practice. [Sic: the Spanish prints obre for sobre, and válido for valido.] We could relate a great quantity of these phenomena manifested by animals and due to the influence of the terrestrial radiations, whether observed by the ancients or by the moderns; but for lack of space we confine ourselves to two scientifically observed.
It has been observed that ants are very abundant in regions in whose subsoil there exist currents of water.
The fact that ants prefer to live in those regions where they can receive favourable influences from the terrestrial radiations — and that it is indeed those radiations, and not other causes such as humidity, that make them choose to live in those regions — is demonstrated to us by the fact that if the humidity is kept unaltered and the terrestrial radiations are deflected or neutralised, one sees how the ants immediately abandon the old dwelling to build another in a more favourable region.
Dr. Dosel, professor of the School of Medicine of Clermont, observed, finally, that — without having any knowledge of the terrestrial radiations — guinea pigs placed upon certain rocks resisted very well injections of certainly mortal doses of sparteine sulphate or of strychnine, and that those same doses, injected into the same guinea pigs while they were in other regions, they could no longer bear, and died. · 14

Apuntes para un Estudio de la Filosofía.
Por Apex A:: M::
a nuestro alcance.
haremos FILOSOFÍA ESPECULATIVA, cuyo objeto será el ser o la esencia de las cosas;

p. 15INFLUENCE UPON MEN.— We have already said that the first to occupy himself with studying the effects of the telluric radiations upon man was Burq.
Professor Cazzamalli, too, has made some observations and experiments in this direction, especially on the organism of dowsers, being able to establish, for example, how in some of them tremors are produced which may reach such an intensity that they present themselves as true convulsive movements, and that in the generality of them an increase of the pulsations of the radial artery is obtained, up to 100 and 150 per minute.
Lakhowsky published in 1927 the results of his studies on the aetiology of cancer, and brought into evidence the relation existing between the diffusion of that disease and the geological nature of the terrain, arriving at the probable conclusion that the terrestrial radiations in certain regions, if not the principal cause, were at least a predisposing or contributory cause.
The astronomer Kritzinger published in 1929 a very interesting work with the title "Terrestrial radiations and divining rod", in which he set forth the result of his investigations on the action of the telluric radiations upon men.
Dr. Gotsche, of Zelts, also came to affirm the effective influence of the terrestrial radiations on man, saying: "It is not an opinion but the result of numerous statistics, that the at times baleful influence of the radiations makes itself felt not only upon plants and animals, but also upon men.
Professor Ugo Bach has devoted himself especially to the study of their influence in the development of certain diseases, such as, for example, rheumatism, gout, gastroenteritis, cardiopathies and, above all, cancer.
Baron Von Pohl concerned himself with the whole topographic study of many regions in which there existed currents of water in the subsoil, establishing those in which it was dangerous to live because of the influences of the radiations injurious to the physiological life of man.
Baron Von Maltzen showed — as did Dr. Beyer also — that new houses built in places where old ones had existed, which had been destroyed for having been considered unhygienic and unhealthy, continued to manifest the same conditions of uninhabitability, which could not be attributed to other factors but exclusively to those derived from the unhealthy influences of the radiations of the subsoil. Likewise Drs.
Leprince, Loir, Regnault and Legangouex have occupied themselves much with the study of the relation between the terrestrial radiations and cancer. The experiments carried out by them, as well as those of Eng. Veillaume, are very numerous, and we regret not being able to speak of them, to avoid going outside the synthetic study we are making.
But not all the terrestrial radiations are noxious; there are others which, on the contrary, are curative. Thus, for example, according to Dr. Mellin, while certain regions in whose subsoil there exists sulphide of mercury and sulphide of arsenic are not in general favourable, they are so, on the contrary, for persons affected with syphilis.
p. 16by Drs. Regnault and Larvaron, and another, called the "Repulsor", was constructed in 1931 by León Nussbaumer. Afterwards many others have been invented and applied, with more or less good results, by many others; and there have even been charlatans who have sought to exploit this still new field of radiesthesic science, propagating the use of "marvellous" apparatus that are completely ineffective.
MEANS OF INVESTIGATION.— To be complete, we shall say something also about the means of investigation employed in radiesthesic researches. We have already said that the study of the terrestrial radiations can be made either through the mere observation of their effects upon minerals, plants and animals, or through "sensitive" persons, or through the employment of special apparatus.
Leaving aside all that can be established through mere observation, we say that only "sensitive" persons can truly be called "dowsers", for it is only these who manifest, with appreciable physiological modifications, the action of the radiations that work upon them. The manner of reacting to these radiations is variable for each of them.
Some "see" a kind of cloud or mist standing over ground in which currents of water exist in its depths; others feel in the mouth the taste of the substance existing in the region explored — which naturally reaches them through the emanations proceeding from the said substance; others, finally, "feel" the action of the radiations as a sensation of heat or cold in the palm of the hand, a sensation that differs according to the nature of those radiations.
Many persons feel nothing from the subjective point of view, but are not for that reason any the less influenced by the radiations, which in such a case may manifest themselves in the subject through more or less appreciable reflexes, and these can be amplified by the employment of the rod or the pendulum.
It has been sought to substitute special apparatus for the dowsers; and though in certain cases these can give appreciable results, they cannot, however, give the indications given by beings much more sensitive, as the dowsers are.
There have been employed, and are still employed, certain apparatus for studying radioactivity, magnetism, the modifications of gravity, the electrical modifications, the ionisation of the air produced above underground currents of water and electric cables, etc. We cannot occupy ourselves with the description of these apparatus, but we can say that they have made it possible to obtain very good results.
Thus, for example, the Austrian colonel Carlos Belchl has been able to obtain certain plates impressed by the radiations emanating from underground currents of water; and Dr. Dobler, of Heilbrom, has been able to obtain aluminium plates in which radioactivity is said to have been increased after exposure to the terrestrial radiations, and which in their turn could impress photographic plates. · 16
p. 17Notes for a Study of Philosophy. By Apex A∴M∴ We are going to begin our study of Philosophy by trying to obtain, in this first excursion, some elements that may serve us for later philosophical investigations. Attending to its etymology, the term Philosophy signifies: Love of Wisdom (philo: love; and sophia: wisdom).
The fixing of the sense of this word is attributed to Pythagoras. That author held that Wisdom in its full possession befitted only the Divinity, and that Man, limited by his nature, could only aspire to it. For this reason he called himself Philosopher, wishing to signify by this that he considered himself only a lover of Wisdom.
We shall note that this first acceptation of the word is too vague and general. That meaning we could apply to the Sciences, to the Arts and, in short, to every human activity insofar as it implies assimilation of knowledge. We must, then, specify in what this philosophical knowledge consists.
Not knowing ourselves what Philosophy is, we shall try to ask it of such persons as Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Bergson, etc., whose works Humanity has always considered true philosophical products. Nevertheless, as each philosopher defines this discipline from his own point of view, it is impossible, by a comparative study, to extract an essential and unitary definition.
To surmount this obstacle, we shall try to obtain from all the known philosophical systems the common factors they contain. In all of them we find that their study tries to embrace the totality of objects — that is, that philosophical knowledge is characterised by being universal.
And as we had said at the beginning that the philosopher was a lover of Wisdom, his attitude toward this universal study will be intellectual, one of knowledge. [Sic: the Spanish prints ducho for dicho, and le for el.] Of course each philosopher has his own way of approaching that study, but we can affirm that all move around two great fundamental problems: the nature of the Universe and the nature of the Self.
Some authors go directly to the study of the Universe, for its knowledge — they affirm — permits them to know the Self, which is an integral element of that Universe; Philosophy presents itself for them as a CONCEPTION OF THE UNIVERSE. Other authors, holding that it is more accessible to study first the Self and then, through its intermediary, the Universe, present their philosophy as a CONCEPTION OF THE SELF.
Bearing this last characteristic we find the Socratic-Platonic system, and following the other direction we see the Aristotelian system. And from these two authors, through the historical evolution of the philosophical systems, both conceptions have succeeded one another, effecting a kind of pendular movement.
Unifying the notions acquired, we have: 1) that in the philosopher we always find an intellectual, cognitive attitude; 2) that he will approach his study from an ample, universal point of view; 3) that he may direct his gaze now toward the Exterior World (Macrocrosmos), now toward the Interior World (Microcosmos), but always studying both elements. [Sic: printed Macrocrosmos, for Macrocosmos.] · 17

por Ramanuja, S. I.
Aprende a pensar
independientemente de las externas sensaciones. Aprende a pensar, pero a pensar siempre
bien.

p. 18PHILOSOPHY IS AN ASPIRATION OF THE SELF TO OBTAIN, BY MEANS OF SELF-REFLECTIONS, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE UNIVERSE. An important conclusion we can draw from this definition is the relation of equality that we establish between the Universe and the Self, for we accept that by studying one of these elements we are enabled to obtain the knowledge of the other.
We are going to establish, in concordance with what has been said, the following principle: "As it is in the Universe, so it is in the Self; and as it is in the Self, so it is in the Universe". We see that the "self" is studied by means of reflections — that is, by observing oneself, extracting a knowledge in which the knowing subject and the object of study are the same.
But of what elements does the Self avail itself to orient itself in this knowledge of itself? The faculty that permits it to distinguish between the true and the false, and which we always find as the common ground of every intelligence, is REASON. It will constitute the indispensable TOOL in every philosophical work.
We may consider that Philosophy is the Human Wisdom that Reason places within our reach. By its formal character, philosophical knowledge claims to arrive at the total comprehension of objects — that is, it does not investigate in things their immediate causes, productive of the sensible phenomena (whose study belongs to the sciences), but tries to obtain the knowledge of the Ultimate Causes, beyond which reason cannot mount.
The Sciences study partial aspects of Being (taking this word in an ample sense, comprehending the Universe and the Self); Philosophy, on the other hand, studies Being in its totality. We know things and beings first in a simple manner, through the senses; then in a more complex, reflective manner, through their causes.
We call the first common knowledge and the second scientific knowledge. [Sic: printed Lamamos, for Llamamos.] We all begin with common knowledge, but we perfect it more or less with our studies, our readings and the experiences life deals us. Philosophy considered as scientific knowledge (being reflective knowledge) tries to give us the comprehension of things through their ultimate causes, employing reason for this.
Before employing a complicated instrument, we must first know it and know how it works, in order to be able to use it correctly. With reason, the philosophical instrument par excellence, we shall do the same.
Its study, from the point of view of its adequate employment for the obtaining of true knowledge, constitutes FORMAL LOGIC; and working to solve the second we find MATERIAL LOGIC, OR THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE. [Editorial gloss: the enumeration this refers back to is defective as printed.] Logic, studying reason as an instrument of knowledge, equips us to introduce ourselves to philosophical study.
Bearing in mind that the end we propose to ourselves is to acquire the comprehension of things through their Supreme Principles, we may employ only the desire to know, and we shall do SPECULATIVE PHILOSOPHY, whose object will be the being or essence of things; but we may also employ reason trying to obtain, from the knowledge acquired, results useful for life, and we shall then do PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY, whose object will be the Absolute Good of Man. · 18
p. 19Now then, objects present themselves to our consideration first as bodies — that is, taking on unities and differentiating themselves among one another by their forms and their physico-chemical properties. The study of unities and forms is proper to Mathematics, which, referred to its ultimate causes, gives us the PHILOSOPHY OF MATHEMATICS.
The study of the physico-chemical properties of those bodies is the object, in general, of the Natural Sciences, which, referred to its supreme principles, gives us the PHILOSOPHY OF NATURE. But in that material world which constitutes Nature we see arise, with a truly differential character, Man, who is the only being that knows and knows himself (an affirmation we can make at least in these conditions of life).
The study of the internal world of Man in what relates to his Psyche is the object of PSYCHOLOGY.
The knowledge we have of the Exterior World through the senses informs us only of the phenomena, of the appearances, which configure the Physical World; but if we try to grasp the essence of things (the Noumenon), we shall have recourse to METAPHYSICS, which studies — as its very term explains — what is beyond the physical world: that is, being insofar as it is being (ONTOLOGY) and the Subsistent Being or First Cause (THEODICY).
From the practical point of view, we said that philosophy sought the Absolute Good of man; it studies, then, human acts, which, referring to "doing", gives us a MORAL PHILOSOPHY (ETHICS), and referring to "making" gives us a PHILOSOPHY OF ART (AESTHETICS). Having obtained a comprehensible definition of Philosophy and a general view of the various disciplines that compose it, we shall now specify what utility its study affords.
Philosophy is generally considered a frivolous and useless occupation, with controversies over problems whose solutions are inaccessible to human knowledge. Nevertheless, we all have more or less vague ideas about the nature of our being and of the world that surrounds us, and those ideas, in a conscious manner or not, exert action upon our conduct in life.
Habituating ourselves to reflective conceptions, even if we do not arrive at precise solutions, we shall have, in any case, a deeper knowledge of ourselves and of the world. The problems Philosophy poses have an enormous interest for the spiritual life; perhaps for this reason the man who lives goaded only by his material necessities does not concern himself with its study.
But the life of this "practical man", shut up in the circle of his private interests, is very limited. And Philosophy, though incapable of solving with certainty the great problems it raises, would widen for him the horizon of his thought and free him from the pettinesses that befall in his life.
Confronting ourselves, through philosophical contemplation, with the grandeur of the infinite, we shall overcome the small interests created by Egoism, and there will arise in us, with an extraordinary vividness, the comprehension of the BROTHERHOOD formed by the Human Race, making us, therefore, Citizens of the World. · 19
p. 20Meditation, by Ramanuja, S. I. Man is stone, animal and spirit: he is God.
He has from the stone the physical substance, from the animal the life of desire, and from God the divine spiritual essence. In proportion to his mass he is attracted by the stone; in relation to his passions, by desire; and in harmony with his purity, by Love. If he has neither great desires nor intelligence, he is little more than a stone.
If he is the slave of his passions, he is little more than an animal. If he has few desires and much will and intelligence, he is an Initiate. And if he is pure Love and Intelligence, which is equivalent to Wisdom, he is more than a man and he is more than an Initiate; he is a Master.
In the common man, ideas are the daughters of the sensations, and are born without form and without force. The Initiate thinks by creating ideas with form, colours and force, thanks to the exercise of the will and of meditation, which little by little make him independent of the sensations and make him master the reactions of the instinctive life.
The Master, independently of any sensation, creates at his will thoughts that have perfectly defined forms, intensity of colour or of colours, and Life. The purely objective life makes of man a common being. The purely subjective life brings man near to the Masters and to God.
Before the science of man, learn the science of the Spirit. Exercise thy will by struggling against desire, but bear always in mind that it is not by killing desire that one advances, but by mastering it. Learn to think independently of the external sensations.
Learn to think — but to think always well. The evil thou observest in thy fellows is nothing but evil that is in thyself.
In the enormously active peace of the deepest silence, on losing contact with the apparent reality of the physical world and submerging thyself thus in the sublime reality of something more Absolute, thou wilt hear the inner voice that emanates from thy Ego; thou wilt learn to know the Truth, the Law that rules the worlds and things; thou wilt learn to know God: thou wilt find thyself.
