p. 4Secrets and Mysteries — By Jehel, S. I. In its natural eagerness to search for the intuited Mystery — related to the essence of its own nature and its true finality — humanity has many times arrived at a lamentable confusion between "secrets" and "mysteries".
Numerous sects, philosophical, religious and of every species, realising perfectly that the essence of the Mystery — possibly known at some epoch by their founders — is so no longer for their directors or members, have not known how to pronounce the words that most dignify the human being: "I do not know".
In the vain eagerness to remain in a position of apparent superiority over the mass — ignorant perhaps, but at least sincere in its search — they have not known how to confess their own ignorance of the really hidden laws of the constitution of the human being, of universal life, and of the relations existing between the visible and the invisible, between the divine and the human.
To disguise this uncomfortable position of ignorance, they have had recourse to an expedient consisting in repeating tirelessly, generation after generation, the same commonplaces of exoteric theory, presenting them with the character of something secret and transcendental.
The bookshops and libraries of the whole planet are full of doctrines and symbols, of catechisms and rituals, of "secret renovations" that are an eternal and renewed commentary on the same thing — which many repeat, in words, gestures, oaths, ceremonies and various obligations, with a secret character that has no reason for being.
The secret is not in the name of the publishing house of the music; nor does it reside in the list of the orchestras that have already performed a determined piece; neither is it found in the identity of the conductors who directed its execution — nor even in the identity of the author who composed the symphony.
To make a secret of all that is "children's business", of those who have nothing more serious with which to occupy their time and everyone else's.
The mystery of the symphony surely resides in what inspired such music, in the effect it produces and will produce for all times to come in the souls of the hearers; surely it enters into the hidden root of sound, of its combinations and of its ties with the other modalities of the vibration of life, on all planes.
p. 5And however much we knew the author's biography, however much we knew musical theory, however capable we were of discovering the material technique of his composition — would all that enable us to feel what a Beethoven could feel in conceiving, writing or performing it?
The essential difference between the musician, taken as an example, and ourselves surely resides in this: "his soul" is that of a genius, of a being of the highest evolution, and we can barely capture, very partially, what he was able to receive, shape, translate and vivify for generations upon generations. So it is also with the Mystery.
No conventional and figurative "secret", no literal expression of human language, spoken or written, painted or sculpted, can "unveil" the Mystery. It can, at most, "reveal" — that is, present under a new veil — the indescribable perception lived or conceived by the actor, by the one who has lived the Mystery. We come in this way to realise that, in this process, beings are divided into two series, which we might well call spectators and actors.
Those who cultivate the "secret" are not, and never will be, anything but simple spectators who comment, with uselessly secretive attitudes, on what the actors have lived… and who at times come, in the most sincere good faith, to believe they are acting. Puppets that believe themselves alive; automata that have the illusion of personal existence and animation.
They wave their arms, pronounce conventional phrases, execute prescribed acts…. and give the impression of beings who, without being in love and in the most absolute solitude, made a declaration of love (in the best of hypotheses) to an absent and unknown beloved, whose name they swear — with reason — not to reveal… The Mystery is precisely the Beloved they do not know, and to whose feet only love felt and lived can lead us.
Therefore, when someone tires of the useless performance — on realising that "others already have children" — there is born in them the desire to love really, and, leaving aside the pretended secrets, cold and nameless, they turn towards where they feel the warm heat of the inner life.
They begin, then, to perceive that Nature, Life and the Divinity — all that is in truth the Great Mystery — "reveals itself only to its lovers", as has been said, and that the mysterious bond that can establish the contact is nothing but a love made of fidelity and disinterestedness, like every real love, for that Truth which is Life, which is Divinity itself in action.
They lose, then, the vanity of theoretical knowledge, the trifling pretension of their conventional and secret titles, the useless preoccupation with keeping silent what everyone already knew, the vain arrogance of forcing the door of a Temple whose threshold is visible only by the light of love and disinterested service.
p. 6They begin to understand the lesson of daily life, in which petulance, boldness, the recommendations of third parties, conventional or secret ties of interest, can help one climb social or professional positions, but can never permit a true moral or technical progress — much less obtain for us the deep and sincere love of a woman who loves us for "what we really are" and not for what we possess or appear to have.
The MYSTERY, under its feminine aspect as Goddess of Truth, is a woman of supreme beauty, supreme intelligence, supreme justice, whose feeling is so absolutely exact that only by a vibration having real affinity with her can we obtain the grace of contemplating her in all her splendour.
And if the Ancient Temples presented this symbol by placing a mirror in the hand of the Goddess, it was to show that, as sole answer to every "declaration" of her suitors, She invited them to look at themselves in the mirror, so that they might judge for themselves whether they were worthy of approaching Her — and so that, as a first step towards the comprehension of her Divine existence, they might seek to know themselves.
That is why Martinism — which in a certain part of its symbolic rites also presents the Mirror to the aspirant to greater real knowledge — desires to remove from the mind of its disciples that attachment, existing in many beings, to those "secrets of Polichinelle" — as the French say — which form the basis of archaic and materialised rites of many kinds: secrets of pure conventional form, which constitute no practical key.
If, from those symbolic representations contained in the various religions and in some philosophical rites — or so-called — there is anything that can be used in the search for the real Mystery, it is certainly not the simple enunciation or graphic representation of such symbols, words, ceremonies or dogmas.
However much we repeat to someone that the Divinity is Tri-Une, or tell him that everything is the product of Wisdom, Strength and Beauty, we shall not thereby bring him nearer to the perception of the living reality of that fact. It is therefore profoundly useless to ask him for secrecy about such an enunciation.
But if someone, in the intimacy of his heart — whether "praying alone in his room", as the divine Essene said, or in silent meditation or contemplation — receives the ineffable caress of the Universal Goddess, you may be sure he will never unveil, before those who lack the necessary devotional respect, the least part of what it was given him to live in those instants.
But just as the sons of men show, by their upbringing and their feeling, the loving tenderness of the education they received from their Mothers, so also the Sons of Truth, of Light, of the Mystery of the Divine Mother, will let there be sensed, by their mere presence, the reflection of the ineffable Goodness and the unfading Light that crown the brow of the Goddess of Mystery who presides over all life — because all life is daughter of her Bosom, in which throbs the eternal rhythm of the Love that creates from all Eternity and through all the times derived from it. AUM et AMEN.
p. 7Commentaries on the First Degree of Martinism — QUATERNARY CHARACTER OF MARTINISM — Teachings of Jehel, S∴I∴ — For what reasons is it said that Martinism has a quaternary character, and what are its teachings related to this affirmation? In the first place, Martinism has always emphasised in its teaching the importance of the "Quaternary" considered as "the Unity that sums up the ternary".
As regards the Divine Being, it is an affirmation enunciated in these terms: First Manifestation (or Divine Person): the Father, Life. Second Manifestation (or Divine Person): the Son — or in a certain aspect the Virgin, the "Divine Mother" — the Verb. Third Manifestation (or Divine Person): the Holy Spirit, or Light.
The "Synthesis" of all this is "GOD MANIFESTED" — that is, the Quaternary that has been called the kingdom of God. This shows us that, as far as the Divine Plane is concerned, we could not conceive — much less understand — the Divinity, if there did not exist that "synthetic Quaternary, reflection of the original Unity" which is its manifestation.
As regards the Human Being, we all accept its triple organisation: Spirit, Soul and Body; but its abstract, primordial "seed" would be equally inconceivable for us if we could not follow its action in studying the manner of acting of the "quaternary" summing up the ternary enunciated: the Visible Human Being, Man, who is formed, as we know, by three "unconsciouses" ruled by one Consciousness.
As regards Nature, we see three planes of organisation — mineral, vegetable and animal — synthesised in what is called "organised life", and also in that cited quaternary, "the human being", who contains all the substances and all the vibrations that can be found in any mineral, vegetable or animal; for he is "the king of visible creation" in that sense; he has in himself the key of communication and direction of the visible world.
Finally, we see that every phenomenon obeys that same law of synthesis of three aspects or modalities of action in one general fact — for example: Shadow, penumbra, light: three modalities of the phenomenon light. Positive, negative, neutral: three phases of the phenomenon electricity, magnetism, etc.
p. 8It is to engrave this well in the minds of the disciples that Martinism has adopted the teaching of quaternary character, especially as the basis of the intellectual study of every fact — and also because we have already seen in other articles that the word Iod-He-Vau-He, the divine name used in many initiations, signified many things, among them: Iod: A Principle of Eternal and Immutable Life. Potential.
He: That same universal [Sic: the original prints "Esa misma universal".], manifested as Energy. Vau: A plastic bond, condensed light, creative and conserving agent. He: Synthesis and vehicle of all the foregoing in physical, visible forms of transitory existence.
If we wished to study it by means of the sacred word of the Christian Gospels and of the Rosicrucian initiation that Martinism transmits to its adepts, we should find one of its interpretations [Sic: the original prints "interpelaciones".]: I — Igne (Fire, Principle of Life, spiritual Energy). N — Noumenon (Archetype, abstract Mould, organising Principle). R — Rota (Natural laws of astral organisation, bonds of life).
I — Formal integration, visible kingdom, phenomenal totality.
The "directive intention of the supreme intelligence", or first "I", provoking creations or organisations which, acting on the visible plane, or second "I", work to arrive consciously at actualising the principle of their origin through form — one may say that this Internal Fire is both the mover and the finality; which is symbolised by writing that name INRI at the four points of a cross inscribed in a circle, to show that everything is a question of "cycles", "orbs", and other analogous terms used according to what is considered.
All this is summed up in the expression: Igne Natura Renovatur Integra. That is to say that, by means of that Fire — by means of its movements or vibrations and the reactions provoked by it and upon it by the other three planes of action — the "nature" of each being and thing, and therefore "the totality of Nature" (the Universe, in its various planes and aspects), "renews" itself integrally. By Fire, Nature is Renewed Whole.
Martinism manifests itself also as a "quaternary" cultural or initiatic organisation because it adopts, like all the Initiatic Fraternities, the basis of "quaternary" studies corresponding to the letters of the name Iod-He-Vau-He or of I.N.R.I. — that is, in ascending order: Study of the Visible World (Nature). Study of the Human Being. Study of the Invisible and Divine World.
Cognitive synthesis, or Illumination. From another point of view we shall find ourselves again led to a synthetic Quaternary: DESTINY: Ineluctable effects of the past and of the immutable and eternally present laws, "fatal" once they are set in action, consciously or · 8
p. 9unconsciously. Obligations and Necessities: physical, moral and spiritual, ineluctable. THE HUMAN WILL: Free will; proportional increase of liberty and of responsibility as a function of knowledge, of sensory and intuitive perception.
Possibilities, duties and rights: physical, moral and spiritual, freely accepted. PROVIDENCE: Protection, Inspiration, Orientation, Direction, which beings receive continually, with no, little, much or full consciousness of its existence and its action. Superconsciousness in development — or, better expressed, extension of Consciousness to new modalities of perception and action.
SYNTHESIS: LIFE, in the amplest meaning of the word: Mutual and reciprocal action of the Divinity, the Human Being, Nature and each and every modality of Energy or Form, among themselves. It tends to realise the CONSCIOUSNESS of UNITY in each being, and the harmonisation of its activity with all the other partial activities of the Great Activity: UNIVERSAL LIFE: God in action, existence and essence.
Martinism sums up, then, its whole doctrinal presentation in the quaternary symbolism of the Cross, for it seeks to make students understand and feel all the various parts of the Universal Doctrine that manifest themselves, or hide themselves, beneath the marvellous symbol of that Cross, which is the summary of the Quaternary Law.
In virtue of the same Law, the Martinist Order has established three degrees of "Preparation": that of Associate — preparation of the body and beginning of the preparation of the Soul. That of Initiate: Preparation of the Soul, or dominion of the astral part, individual and at times something more. That of Unknown Superior: Preparation of the Mind in its double aspect: concrete and abstract.
Then comes the "Fourth Degree: Fil… Des…" or Initiator — synthesis of the preceding ones and full possibility of application, since in that Grace begins the possibility of forming Disciples. Finally, in its Temples, Martinism has the Quaternary as ceremonial basis as well, for the liturgical offices represent once more the Quaternary Law: Fil… Des… (Spiritual Power) Positive of the positive. Mast.
Init… (Descending Astral) Negative of the negative. Mast. Assoc… (Ascending Astral) Positive of the negative.
Mast. Incog… (Materialised power) Negative of the positive. (Synthesis on the visible plane). This is another form of expressing "quaternarily" the double law: the magnetic law of the polarisation of each arm of the cross — Poles and sub-poles — and the mystical law that may be expressed thus: "The spirit, descending through the astral to matter, will return through the astral to the spirit — that is, to its own origin". That is: a circuit, circle or closed cycle, in four beats. A cross inscribed in a circle.
p. 10Practical Course of Judicial Astrology — Teachings of Surya. S∴I∴ — Having studied, in previous articles, the influences of the Signs of the Zodiac Aries and Taurus, we shall now see that of: GEMINI or The Twins. J.
Burgoyne, the Rosicrucian author of "The Light of Egypt" [Sic: the original prints "Burgoynes".], tells us that the symbol of Gemini, under its symbolic aspect, represents unity and the force of union in action, as well as the truths inherent in union. The two brilliant stars Castor and Pollux represent the twin souls.
The Greek myth of Castor and Pollux avenging the abduction of Helen is nothing but the repetition of the biblical history of Simeon and Levi massacring the men of Shechem on account of the offence done to their sister Dinah by the son of Hamor.
Kabbalistically, the sign of the Twins represents the hands and arms of the Grand Man of the Universe, and therefore they express the "projecting" and executive forces of humanity in all mechanical activities.
On the esoteric planisphere this sign is occupied by Simeon and Levi: "They are brethren", says Jacob, "and instruments of cruelty are in their habitation" — which refers, without doubt, to the terribly powerful faculties of projection of all who are under the influence of this sign. The mystic symbol of the Twins encloses the doctrine of twin souls and other important truths related to it.
The mystic gem of this sign is the beryl — which means crystal — and it therefore forms the talismanic stone of those born with the Twins in the ascendant. This powerful sign constitutes the first and most elevated emanation of the trigon or triplicity of Air, and is the constellation of Mercury.
On the intellectual Plane, Gemini signifies the union of reason and intuition, and those under its dominion express the most elevated intellectual state of incarnate humanity. They are versatile, free, philosophical and generous. Their magnetic sphere is very susceptible to receiving the influence of the inspiring currents.
By nature they are agitated and excessively energetic. They possess an abundance of intellectual force that impels them irresistibly into the most gigantic undertakings. Their fundamental traits are intuitive and intellectual activity; they are therefore nervous and active, as can be observed in the Yankee people, whose country is under the influence of the Twins.
On the physical Plane, the Twins grant a tall and straight body, sanguine complexion, dark hair, greyish or rather light chestnut eyes, a penetrating gaze, a lively and active walk and gestures. In their tendency, those born under this sign, and in the whole Air trigon, are versatile and changeable.
They have a scientific tendency and a passion for the acquisition of every type of knowledge; nevertheless they are not constant, and rarely study the same thing closely and for a long time; they have a contemplative tendency, as well as an extremely developed imagination. Among other plants, there are "ruled" by the Twins: privet, couch-grass, meadowsweet or "queen of the valleys", madder, honeysuckle, tansy, verbena and yarrow. Among other stones, the garnet and all stones with stripes of various colours. 10
p. 11THE DECANATES OF GEMINI ON THE ASCENDANT (according to Julevno) — Gemini gives, in general, an elevated stature, a straight and slender body, with long arms and hands and feet likewise long, but well made. The complexion is fresh, coloured; the eyes chestnut or greyish, the gaze expressive and lively, the walk agile and rapid, treading lightly. The character is good, with a taste for the arts and sciences, fame and study.
The judgment is good, a good merchant, facility of expression, and the person makes himself respected by all. This sign has influence over the arms and the bronchi, and Mercury is its "Lord" or general Regent. The first decanate of Gemini (first 10 degrees) is under the influence of Jupiter; it grants a humanitarian and generous tendency, but little luck and happiness.
The spirit usually has good gifts and aptitudes, but the judgment is weak and the person has excessive self-confidence, thus causing themselves numerous harms and being the author of their own bad luck. They are capable of rising by their personal merits, but make bad use of their means and qualities. This decanate grants facility of elocution, a taste for law and literature.
The second decanate (degrees 11 to 20) is governed by Mars and imparts a violent and quarrelsome nature, ungrateful and with a tendency to polemic. Persons born in this decanate (save very good aspects to the contrary) pass their life in chicanery and disputes, over interests, fortune and position.
Such a decanate can grant the favours of persons of influence, Martian or related to Mars (military men, etc.), but causes dangers or accidents in journeys, and acute fevers. The third decanate (degrees 21 to 30) is ruled by the Sun. It grants a brilliant intelligence, success in letters or sciences, numerous journeys, elevated connections, some success in literature or the arts — but with an agitated life and little material fortune.
IF WE CONSIDER THE "FACES" OF GEMINI (divisions of 5°), we shall see that, according to classical opinions collected by Dr. Salmon, they signify: 1st FACE (0° to 5°). — Makes the person: large, thin, rigid, slender; the complexion is reddish, somewhat dark; hair dark or reddish; round shoulders, short legs. Facility of speech. This division is of the vibration of Mars and makes hunters.
When this face of Gemini is on the Ascendant, it is dangerous to take remedies. The 5th degree of Gemini in the natal ascendant prognosticates smallpox marks on the face. 2nd FACE (6° to 10°).— Indicates an elegant person, of round face, chestnut hair, rapid speech and agreeable general aspect.
This face is governed by Venus and Mars and contains the favourable fixed stars Aldebaran and the Southern Eye of the Bull. The 9th degree gives a darker complexion, and if the Moon were placed there, with Saturn or with Mars, it indicates danger of blows to the head or face.
3rd FACE (11° to 15°).— Indicates a somewhat small person, of coloured face, strong and well constituted, with short hair generally waved or curly, of dark shade; the mouth is prominent, the eyes also somewhat protruding, teeth badly aligned, prominent shoulders, legs short and thin in relation to the body.
p. 12tone, the eyes sparkle with vivacity; withal, the endurance of these persons is very limited, under every aspect; they lose their teeth prematurely. 5th FACE (21° to 25°).— A well-constituted but somewhat thin person, with black hair, elongated face, narrow chin, dark complexion.
The eyes and beard are dark or black, the legs long and thin, and the person has the aspect of a pulmonary invalid, owing to the influence of Mars and Jupiter on this face of Gemini. INFLUENCES OF THE FACES OF GEMINI IN THE ASCENDANT. First face: A proud and contemptuous person, of fantastic temper and little scruple.
Second face: A vain person, conceited about their worth, proud and boastful. Third face: A cold, imperious character, who glorifies himself and despises others. If Mars is placed here, it adds pride, a spirit of domination and insolence; if it is Mercury, well aspected, it corrects such defects.
Fourth face: An audacious, enterprising, adventurous or daring character, apt for many things, supremely dexterous and skilful in all he undertakes, but turbulent, active and loquacious. Fifth face: An indifferent character, very fond of the opposite sex (especially in a masculine chart), somewhat shameless with very "saintly" appearances — gives the type vulgarly called "mosca muerta" (a sly innocent).
Sixth face: An affable, active person, of great ingenuity, skilled in sciences or arts. With real qualities, and very serious.
THE FACES OF GEMINI ON THE MIDHEAVEN — First face: Placed on the midheaven of a chart, this face can prognosticate, for persons who have received a bad upbringing, the possibility of becoming a thief or gunman; but if education and environment have modified the tendency, they may become a butcher, surgeon or soldier, according to the influence that Saturn, Mars or the Moon may have by their position or aspects on this zodiacal face.
Second face: Promises military or ecclesiastical honours, or distinction in the magistracy, with certain glory and fame — such success being due to the person's real merit. Third face: indicates aptitudes for the mechanical and pyrotechnical sciences. Placed in it, Mercury indicates legal employments or in the judiciary; the Sun in this position gives a success of short duration and characterises celebrated lawyers.
Fourth face: Grants eloquence, favours, and the consideration of people of letters or of the military milieu. Fifth face: indicates that the person will triumph thanks to their appearances of virtue and wisdom, as tends to happen with men of government. Sixth face: Prognosticates success out of the common, and the favours or protection of ladies. 12
p. 13Progressive Course of Asana Yoga (Continuation) — By Asuri Kapila S∴I∴ — MULA UDDIYANA JALANDHARA BHANDHAS. This posture is one of the most secret of Asana Yoga; it is practised as follows: 1) Sit on the floor in Padmasana. 2) Exert a light pressure with the left heel upon the generative organ, at the same time contracting the anus.
3) Inhale slowly and deeply, at the same time contracting the diaphragm as much as possible (as indicated in Fig. 21) and closing the circuit of the physical Prana by keeping the wrists resting on the knees and with the thumbs and index fingers in contact. 4) Place the right heel upon the organ of generation and exhale slowly.
As is known, one of the five pranic Vayus, the Apana Vayu, presides over the excretory functions and directs itself downwards, for which reason it is also called the "lower Prana". The continued practice of the Mula Bhandhas obliges that Apana to direct itself upwards and to join another pranic Vayu, the Prana Vayu or "higher Prana".
Both then enter the Sushumna Nadi or Brahma Nadi, and the Mystic Inner Sounds of the Anahata can thus be heard, while at the same time external sounds are heard no more. BENEFITS DERIVED FROM THE MULA UDDIYANA JALANDHARA BHANDHAS.— The benefits proceeding from the continuous practice of the Mula Bhandhas are the following: · 13
p. 141) Astonishing rejuvenation of the physical body with restoration [Sic: the original prints "ripristino", an Italianism.] of the youthful features, increase of elasticity in the articulations and of tone in the muscles. 2) Extraordinary toning of the central and peripheral nervous system, and especially of the "digestive fire" (Jatharagni). 3) Grey hairs disappear completely, or their appearance is prevented.
NOTE.— Never practise the Mula Bhandhas after having ingested food or liquids, or if a state of disquiet exists owing to worries or other causes. (To be continued) — PEACE TO ALL BEINGS — U A M ✯ — Is it possible to prolong youth? Does a Spiritual Alchemy exist capable of restoring our youth? – Causes of old age and of death.
By Asuri Kapila S∴I∴ — MINERAL SALTS AND VITAMINS — Besides the matters and energies every food yields to the body, there are found, as basic sources, the organic mineral salts and the famous vitamins, through whose lack the organs and the body grow poor and weak, bringing as a consequence a premature old age.
We shall see that our liver irremissibly needs a renewal material translated into salts of potassium, sulphur and sodium with a dose of vitamin C. Iodine, silicon, sulphur, calcium salts, para-amino-benzoic acid and pantothenic acid are needed, a proportion of inositol and a dose of vitamins C and B with all their compounds, for our kidneys.
Salts of calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, chlorine, manganese and iodine with a dose of vitamins B, C and D, for our heart. The pancreas needs iron salts and a dose of vitamin B. Our stomach, which is the one that most suffers wear through excess of alimentation, needs salts of sodium, iodine, calcium, iron, magnesium and chlorine, with · 14
p. 15its doses of vitamins A, B, C and D. Our hair, which we lose so soon, needs salts of calcium, iodine, sulphide, silicon, para-amino-benzoic acid with its dose of vitamin B and all its complements. Our face, which so soon wrinkles and loses its bloom, needs — to keep itself young and fresh — salts of potassium, fluorine, silicon, sodium and sulphide with a dose of vitamins A, B, C and D.
Our eyes, which also suffer in modern life through the abuse of artificial light and soon weaken, need salts of silicon, fluorine and manganese, with vitamins A, B, C and E. The nails need salts of potassium, sodium, copper, iron, sulphur and calcium with vitamins B, C and D.
The lungs, on which modern life wreaks such havoc by reason of hygiene and bad respiration, need salts of iron, sodium, potassium, calcium and manganese with vitamins B, C and D. The sexual organs also need salts of every class, very especially those of potassium, calcium and iron, with a strong dose of vitamins A, B, C, D and E.
Likewise our nervous system, which suffers and is soon disorganised by the exaggerated effort to which we constantly submit it, needs the salts of silicon, phosphorus, sulphur, magnesium and calcium with a dose of vitamins B, C and D.
The venous system, which so soon becomes weak, deficient and brittle through arteriosclerosis — through the mistaken norm of life we lead, the false and deficient alimentation to which we submit our body — needs sodium salts and a quantity of vitamin C. Now, also, our muscles, which need vital elements to maintain their elasticity always, have need of salts of chlorine, iodine and potassium with vitamin A.
With all this set forth, our dear readers will realise the imperative necessity of all these elements specified, so that our whole organism can keep itself vigorous, healthy and young. Our organism is a true chemical laboratory; when it does not receive these elements it sickens and declines — and almost always never to rise again. Now, does there exist a food that contains, practically, all these mineral salts and vitamins, in synthesis?
We can say no — with the exception of mother's milk. Here Nature again demonstrates to us her immense wisdom, when she provides woman with a food so perfect that it not only contains in synthesis all the mineral salts and vitamins, but represents the most perfect and ideal food a human being could ever obtain. In the next number we shall study which foods we shall have to ingest to obtain all the elements we have enumerated above. HEALTH, PEACE AND HAPPINESS TO ALL BEINGS — U A M — (To be continued) · 15

As, since the foundation of the Central Ashrama, 180 persons have been invited to practise the Suddha Dharma life, we see that until now exactly 50% have not known how to persevere.
Communication to the Disciples. a) I beg you to excuse if, during the last 40 days, you have been attended with little correspondence, for urgent affairs of the Martinist Order have made it impossible for me to devote the necessary time to all; but the normality of epistolary ties will now be re-established. b) I would request the special attention and affection of all who follow the teaching of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam for the publications, begun in this number of "La Iniciación", on the organisation of the Suddha Dharma and the Spiritual Hierarchy that orients it — which form an indispensable complement to the notes of Pandit K.
T. Srinivasachariar we had published in numbers 16 to 23 inclusive of this Review. In those we shall now publish will be found the details of that organisation and the names and functions of the 32 Great Siddhas alluded to in the sacred sloka (verse) we employ as mystic salute among the members of the S.

p. 17THE SUDDHA DHARMA MANDALAM — Generalities. In this world, composed at once of animate and inanimate creation, there exists one that is the noblest of all: it is the human race; and man is a creature subject to the Influence of the course of the time in which he lives. The world in which man is, is also subject to the course of Time, and thence is born a correlation between man and the Jagat (evolutionary process of the world).
It being inherent in man's nature to be always seeking progress, his efforts are constantly influenced by the conditions of the Time in which he lives, just as his relation with the Jagat is external because of the correlation existing between him and the Jagat.
The advancement or progress thus sought by man can be classified in three groups: There is the Prakritic, or Material — consequently worldly; the Atmic, or Spiritual; and the Suddha, the Pure or Absolute. It is also a perfectly proven fact that, to aid man in his efforts towards progress, there exists an Almighty God, and a Hierarchy to execute his divine mandates.
Under this Hierarchy there is a body of Elder Brothers and Mahatmas, who observe and direct the course of aspirants, who, according to their degrees of advancement, are divided into four groups: Dasas, Thirtas, Brahmas and Anandas. This Esoteric Organisation exists externally for the well-being and due spiritual advancement of the people on the face of the globe.
The members of this Organisation are always dedicated to the administration, for each race and country, of particular laws, or aspects of the true religion, as occasions and circumstances require. This Assembly, which has its abode towards the north of the forests of Badari, situated in the Himalayas, consists of many Mahatmas, Siddhas (Adepts) and great Rishis.
Among its members are found individuals of every class and community on the face of the globe, independently of unequal social condition here in the physical world. Among them are also found many women, who by their efforts and intense discipline have advanced until becoming Siddhas (Adepts).
This Organisation recognises: a) BHAGAVAN NARAYANA, as its Head; b) YOGA DEVI, personification of all Sakti (power), as executrix of his divine will; and c) NARADEVA, representative of the human race, as its secretary. 17
p. 18To the existence of this Hierarchy allusion is made in almost all the sacred books of the East. It is the firm belief of the theists, who believe in the existence of an Almighty God, that there is something that transcends the conception of man's five senses. This something is called Para Brahman.
This Para Brahman is not limited by Time or Space and cannot properly be described. Furthermore, it is the one that has been described in the various Scriptures as that which transcends all creation, but which at the same time is its radical cause. The principal teaching of the Vedas is that one's noblest aspiration consists in making a living effort to realise this Brahman, since it is the source of all Blessedness.
Time, Space, the Hierarchs and the work effected by the Hierarchy are but the manifestations of this Supreme Brahman. The Hierarchs, being an Amsa (fragment) of Para Brahman, are always dedicated to establishing the rules of the Dharma, in accordance with the conditions of Time and the general progress of the people.
And it is the duty of the human race to recognise the changes due to the march of time and other conditions, and to adopt those rules of conduct dictated by the Hierarchs charged with the government of the world.
For example, the rules and laws by which the human race is divided into various castes or social grades are those that affect only the physical or exterior body; these divisions are based principally on the Sattvic1 and other qualities that are the necessary consequence of the composition of the bodies. The rules governing such divisions are not of universal application, as regards the conditions of time and place.
With the purpose of establishing the rules that are of universal application, the Hierarchy, under the direction of Bhagavan Narayana, its Head, performs its work — now presenting new laws, now appropriately explaining, and publishing commentaries upon, the existing truths. With this object, members of the Organisation make their appearance in the physical world.
In this appearance the Elder Brothers, if they come to the face of the world by means of an advanced person, make use of that person as a vehicle for themselves, without regard to their birth or social condition.
When a person lends himself to this mission, all the higher powers of the Atma, until then latent in him, are put into activity, and the person himself comes to be a great Seer (in the sense of Illumined) or Master, being thus capable of promulgating the laws the Hierarchy intends to expound. Such were the great masters and founders of the world's religions.
On occasions, when it is absolutely necessary, the Lord Narayana himself appears among men. In his longing for progress, unless man follows THE RIGHT SYSTEM OF CONDUCT, it is impossible for him to obtain every class of prosperity. There are three systems for realising this end, and their names are in harmony with the importance of their various aspects. They are: Prakritic, Atmic and Suddha. 1 There exist three qualities of matter: Tamasic, Rajasic and Sattvic. 18
p. 19When a man follows that system in which the greatest importance is attributed to the "Prakritic" medium — that is, the physical aspect, or Matter-and-Form aspect of Brahman — he is gradually withdrawing from all thoughts of the Atma or the Spirit in him. He becomes, so to speak, an atheist. All the progressive knowledge and truths of the Spirit in man are lost from view.
In a similar way, those who follow the Atmic system of thought attribute great importance to the Spirit in man and lose sight of the aspect of Matter. For them manifested creation becomes a mere illusion, and for that reason they cannot derive from it the benefits of material evolution — means necessary for truly realising the Spirit in man.
Consequently, each of the mentioned paths, with the diverse scriptures that treat of them, with the various philosophical schools proposed by them — as is now evident — would not profit, in the present time, the advancement and progress of the human race, since such exclusive development of each one leads to an unbalanced progress.
But if man longs for a development in every sense, one must take one's stand at the point from which both systems issue and to which they again converge.
This system, which transcends the two already cited, is known by the name of Suddha, and it is the firm belief of the Elder Brothers and other Mahatmas that the human race can surely progress in all its aspects by the study of the texts treating of this dharma and by following the schools where these truths are expounded.
According to what they expound, the origin and synthesis of everything is known as Suddha Brahman; the literature that deals with this realisation is known as Suddha Vidya (literature, doctrine); and the dharma, or religion, that must be observed for this realisation is known as Suddha Dharma. All these things the Suddha Dharma Mandalam encloses.
In the following articles we shall see the various methods of initiation that can lead to the realisation of what has been enunciated up to this point. N. N.

p. 20Cosmic Influences and Reactions of Living Beings. Terrestrial radiations — By Pitágoras S∴I∴ — We have already mentioned, in our first article on the "Variations of terrestrial magnetism"2, the fact that the influences of varied nature existing and operating in the environment in which we live exercise — often without our consciously perceiving it — functional modifications, physiological as well as psychic, in our organisms.
Those influences are of cosmic origin in general and terrestrial in particular; and as regards the latter, we have already spoken of the variations of terrestrial magnetism and their influences on man, as well as the variations produced by orientation and by "contact" with or "insulation" from the soil.
There exist many other cosmic-terrestrial influences of complex nature (which at bottom are but modifications of a single energy: the astral light) that act upon us — as for example the meteoric, those of temperature, the luminous, etc. Of them we shall speak in our coming articles, for in this one we shall limit ourselves to treating those terrestrial or telluric radiations with which, for some years, a new science has been occupying itself: Radiesthesia.
As always happens in certain scientific milieux, it is believed that these studies are completely new and that, consequently, the ancients knew nothing of those radiations and their influence on man and the other living beings.
Nevertheless, though the ancients may not have known many details, they knew perfectly the nature of those energies; and if we were willing to listen to them, instead of continuing to consider them dreamers, fanatics or ignorant men, we could still learn much from them — in spite of ourselves, they are still our masters.
We have already seen, for example, how the Chinese consulted an expert in FOUNG-CHOEI before building a house or any other construction, to learn from him on which terrain it was advisable to build and what its orientation should be.
We now add that they, in order to know better the nature of the terrain — not from the point of view of its chemical composition, but from that of the radiations emanating from it — planted in it a bamboo whose extremity immersed in the ground was of steel.
With this system (whose principle is identical to that of the modern systems of electroculture), they could not only establish what was the harmony or disharmony between the IANG forces (of external origin) and the YN (of internal origin) in that determined terrain, but favour the re-establishment of harmony between those two polarities of the TAI-KI. 2 "La Iniciación", No. 23. 20
p. 21We know, on the other hand, from what the CHOU-KING relates to us, that one of the first emperors who occupied himself with terrestrial radiations, with discovering objects hidden in the soil, and with giving valuable indications on the different epochs at which it was advisable to plant seeds or effect transplants and on the manner of working the earth, was the emperor YU of the HSIA dynasty, who reigned between 2200 and 2197 before Christ.
Something analogous to what the Chinese did was practised by the Etruscans, who knew very well the emanations of the terrain. In effect, they investigated the nature of the terrain by means of the Haruspices, and favoured cultivation by planting stakes with the same ends as the Chinese. The Romans, as is known, learned those knowledges from the Etruscans and put them in practice for many centuries.
Among all peoples and in all times, in short, the terrestrial radiations have been studied and intelligently applied for man's benefit.
And if the Catholic Church had not condemned, through ignorance, these men who devoted themselves to those studies — considering them sorcerers who obtained certain results by the mere fact of having signed a pact with the devil — and if the representatives of so-called official science, for their part, had not considered as charlatans all those who produced visible effects by acting at a distance, surely the state of our knowledge in the matter would be much more advanced.
Of nothing availed the verification of facts whose causes were unknown — facts which, nevertheless, being incontestable, ought to have drawn the attention of men of science worthy of the name and stimulated them to investigate their genesis.
Of nothing availed the publication in 1693 of an excellent work by Le Lorrain, abbé de Vallemont and professor at the College of Cardinal Le Moine, on the terrestrial emanations, with the title "Physique occulte" — a work which, naturally, was placed on the Index. The position of the men of science was a definitive position.
There could be no action at a distance; there could be no forces other than the known ones that could act upon objects and beings. And, consequently, every attempt to demonstrate the contrary was senseless; every phenomenon that could not be explained by the already known laws was deceit or… the work of the devil.
Nevertheless, that definitive position — like so many others considered such, for men very reluctantly abandon the old for the new — had to be abandoned when the facts became so frequent, and when the discovery of multiple waves and radiations obliged a change in the ideas held until then about energy, force and matter.
Those who were considered poor ignorant men and fanatics because they employed pendulums and rods to discover water currents in the subsoil — those men who performed their experiments in secret to evade the mockery and scorn of the… men of science — could at last show themselves openly when the Academy of Sciences of Paris resolved to name a commission for the study of the phenomena of rhabdomancy.
p. 22example, all the various groups were united in a single society; in France, Radiesthesia is taught officially; in the Soviet Union an excellent organisation has been founded, with more than 200 investigators, to study and apply the knowledge of Radiesthesia.
At Avignon, in 1932, the first international congress of dowsers was gathered, with the presence of 201 members representing eleven nations; and after that year many other congresses met in various other countries. As is seen — as Socrates said — "truth, even if it had no defender, imposes itself by itself".
We have given some examples to show how, among all peoples and in all epochs, the terrestrial radiations had been studied and intelligently applied for man's benefit.
We could give many more; but, as what interests us is not to gather proofs of the knowledge of the ancients — attributed, through ignorance, to the moderns — but to make known what the present knowledge is on the matter we are treating, we shall say something of it, warning that it is already so abundant that a thick volume would not suffice if we wished to treat it in detail.
We shall limit ourselves, then, as always, to a summary and to showing the essential.3 We already know that our earth is not isolated in the Universe, but that its life, like that of all the beings that live upon it, depends on the Sun, and that it receives from the Moon and the other planets of the system various influences.
We know, moreover, that the earth is surrounded by an atmosphere charged with electricity and other energies, and that its central nucleus, though at present almost unknown from the scientific point of view, cannot fail to exercise an influence upon the terrestrial crust.
Various factors, then, exercise their influence in the genesis and modification of those radiations that manifest themselves upon the earth and which, from it (earth = Tellus), are called "telluric". 3 Readers who might wish to study the matter in more detail may consult, among others, the following works: "Convegno Italiano di Rabdomanzia", Edit. p. 23The Song of Unity. Dedicated with deep Love, Veneration and Gratitude to the Twelve Luminaries known by the august name of "THE ASIATIC BROTHERS OF THE BRILLIANT MYSTERY", as also to OTOKO MASARE, whose Personality inspires in me a profound affection and admiration. Swami Asuri Kapilananda.
What are Man, Heaven, the Suns, the Planets, all the Universes? What are the grains of sand of the immense deserts, the deep waters of the oceans, the minerals, the plants, the animals, the Universal Celestial Sea that fills everything? Substances of the Same Origin, of the Divine Father-Mother.
To wish to make separateness among all these things is not to perceive the Supreme Divinity. All these things are, nevertheless, absolute part of a Stupendous Whole, whose Body is nature, and God the Soul; changing continually, it IS always equal in Essence. Grandiose in the Dense, the same as in its Etheric structure.
It is heat in the Sun. Resplendence in the Stars. Temperer of the warm breezes and glorious Flowering in the Trees.
It lives through all Life, extends through all extensions. It spreads undivided, operates inexhausted. It breathes in our Souls.
It participates in our Mortal Parts. It is Ample, Perfect in the structure of the heart, as in the humblest hair. It is also Ample and Perfect in the perverse man who laments, as It also Is in the song of Love of the enraptured Seraph who adores and burns the gentle perfumes.
For HIM there is no difference between the High, the low, the Great or the small. He fills, binds, unbinds, connects, equalises everything. For Him nothing is alien; the parts relate to the Whole, in all existences, in the preservation of Souls.
He joins and connects each being — the Greatest with the smallest, the small with the most insignificant: a Wisdom, this, that enchains so that thus they may advance. He makes the beast come to the aid of man, and man to the aid of the beast. All served, all serving. 23
p. 24The Chain is maintained and sustained: Where does it end? No one knows — only He. The Swami who has penetrated this Wisdom is always realising the Unity of Beings, and makes also that "Nothing in the World Be Alone". [Sic: the original prints "Esté Splo" for "Esté Solo".] All things by a Divine Law are mingled, the ones with the others.
All the Substances and Beings of the Entire Universe form the Divine Body of the Celestial Father. To despise the bad, the low and the apparently useless is to despise Brahma. Let us all live in One, so that thus the One may live more intensely in us.

Secretos y Misterios
Por Jehel, S. I.

Enseñanzas de Jehel, S:: I::

Potencial.
Hé: Esa misma universal, manifestada como Energía.
Vau: Un lazo plástico, luz condensada, agente creador y conservador.
I — Igne (Fuego, Principio de Vida, Energía espiritual).
N — Númeno (Arquetipo, Molde abstracto, Principio organizativo).
R — Rota (Leyes naturales de organización astral, lazos de vida).
I — Integración formal, reino visible, totalidad fenoménica.
Igne Natura Renovatur Integra.

cuatro tiempos. Una cruz inscripta en un círculo.

Curso Práctico de Astrología Judiciaria
Enseñanzas de Surya. S:: I::
andar y ademanes vivos y activos.

FAZ 1ª (0’ a 5’).
rojiza, algo oscura; cabellos oscuros o rojizos; hombros redondos, piernas cortas. Facilidad

negros, rostro alargado, mentón estrecho, tez oscura.

pueda mantenerse vigoroso, sano y joven.

realizar trabajos, ora representando nuevas leyes, ora explicando apropiadamente y

Radiaciones terrestres
Por Pitágoras S:: I::

No podía haber
