p. 4A memorable night among Initiates. By a Br∴ Ill∴ of the O∴ K∴ R∴ C∴ The calendar marked: 10 July 1941. The Book of Presences of the Grand Council of the Martinist Order — with its seat, at that time, in Porto Alegre — showed 12 present.
Of them, SEVEN, exactly, were R∴ C∴ Among those Present were seen the Master Cedaior, still in full vigour at that epoch; Jehel, presiding over the Council; Solón, the wise vice-President; Mauá, Secretary.
The meeting had a special character for all, since there were also present the venerable Pitágoras, delegate of Martinism in Uruguay, with his inseparable Brothers and companions: Asuri Kapila, Surya and Maya, who had come to Brazil on a special visit to the Grand Council and the Brothers of Porto Alegre.
Lorelair, astrologer of the Council, and Jehel, the interpreter of the conclusions Lorelair deduced and intuited, commented — for the knowledge and meditation of their Brothers of the Council — many things revealed by the Foundation chart of the Order and by their intuitions of that moment, powerfully magnetised by the affection that united all, and very especially the Rosicrucians present.
When one possesses, or believes one possesses, a Truth, or the Key that permits obtaining it, one must also have the courage to make that Truth known — at least in that part of it which can be useful to others, to those beings disposed to receive it with respect and affection… and also as a proof of the Truth itself, for some who, being very worthy and dedicated, have the unhappiness of still harbouring some shadow of doubt in their inmost self — that doubt I once called: the little worm most hidden at the centre of the fruit.
THE PROPHECY: By the Brothers named there was said, among many other things, the following, in reference to the activities of our Beloved and Venerable Martinist Order: July to September 1941: Danger of shaking the bases of the organisation and the friendships with some brothers. Perturbations through the intervention of some brothers, from the lower part of the astral.
Possible discussions, forming separateness or provoking the separation of some heads of Corporation. (IT HAS BEEN FULFILLED INTEGRALLY) · 4
p. 5September to November 1941: The same difficulties, but, on the other hand, great activity and changes. (IT HAS BEEN FULFILLED INTEGRALLY) Summary of the First and Second years of organisation (1940-41): Numerical and occult fecundity.
Ample support both on the visible Plane and on the Invisible. (IT HAS BEEN FULFILLED INTEGRALLY) Age: 2 to 3 years (1942-43): Great and fecund action and union of the members, and the Body of the Order beginning to Serve. (IT HAS BEEN FULFILLED INTEGRALLY: Gidee, review, editions, Groups and Delegations, Cures, etc., etc.).
Age 3 to 4 years and 4.5 years (1943-44 and 44): Difficulties or limitations in form, partly through lack of cohesion, partly through the possibility of a clash or difficulties of a social or legal order. (SOMETHING OF THIS WAS SEEN; the rest belongs already to the future). Age 5 to 7 years (1944 to 46 or 47): A period that may bring the Order some donation in immovable property or important contracts in that sense.
It will be the epoch in which the results of all that was undertaken with tenacity and persevering affection will be seen. [Sic: the original prints "no se verán" (will not be seen); the tenor of the passage suggests the negative is a slip.] There will be more depth in the scientific works, and with lasting profits. Real realisations, individual and collective.
Inheritances of occult tradition through the support and manifestation of the Invisible. An excellent epoch for obtaining a greater yield from the Delegates and Representatives of the Order, in all sectors and activities, as well as for treating with persons who already occupy more elevated and stable initiatic positions (MASTERS).
1947-1948: Between the 12 and 15 years of "organisational age" the Order will have a great period of preparation for a grandiose realisation that will be seen towards its 15 years; it will be profoundly modified for the better at 17 years, and will fructify fully at 22 years, in an ascending curve whose maximum — as far as can now be foreseen or predicted — will manifest between its 27 and 32 years and especially at 29 and 30 years (1969-70-71).
If one does not give, to the small human things that still characterise the members of the Order, more than the importance they have — logical as they are in beings who, in their majority, are skirting the real Path, or have only very recently set foot on it — one may observe that the general panorama is characterised by facts of the highest importance which, for all those who have real Love for the Work, must suffice to make them "understand" and "feel" the backing the Order (and its dedicated Members) has from the Invisible, from the · 5
p. 6Hierarchs and Masters of various Currents or Occult Schools, and which manifests itself, in general lines, by the following visible facts: a) There increases daily the proportion of Members of the Order who, each on his way, devote themselves to realising ever more in the DOUBLE SENSE of a continuous effort to better themselves individually and to Serve better, abandoning the "verbal illusion" of believing that being a "member" of an Initiatic School solves everything by simple enunciation. b) The backing of the Martinist Current properly so called makes itself felt by the "unconditional" protection always received by those who have devoted themselves to the translations, redactions or publications of Works really useful to Disciples and the initiable. c) The backing of the same Current has manifested itself in the fecundity of the courses of the "GIDEE", from which an appreciable number of "active" and dedicated Martinists have already come. d) The backing of the Martinist and Rosicrucian Current has made itself perceived by the possibility of the creation of the Kabbalistic Rosicrucian Library, and by the Assistance of the Venerable Masters AMO, PAPUS and others in numerous cases of the cure of the sick for whom Members of those Orders have asked or prayed, individually or collectively.
Other manifestations of the backing of the Rosicrucian Current will be perceived by those who understand the true role of the Rosicrucian: To cure, console, stimulate in everything that elevates the human Being. e) The backing of the various Currents, Eastern and Western, has become visible by the facility with which there increases, in number and in worth, the group of Members who, by the way of the "Ramana Ashrama", "Maha-Bodhi-Sanga", "HABM" or "Suddha Dharma Mandalam", is really "working" silently to develop, in their souls and in those of the people around them, that Health, that Peace and that Union which are the eternal means and goals of human perfectibility. f) Finally, the Martinist Order, instead of becoming ever more "closed" and more "dogmatic" — as frequently happens with a society when it sees its numerical and every other kind of progress increase — on the contrary becomes ever ampler, more practically eclectic, abandoning even forms and details of a so-called "traditional" character which were nothing but characteristics of "epochs", to conserve only the "essential", the fundamental, the indispensable — which is what really was, is and will always be the common patrimony of all Initiates.
That is why in the Martinist ranks we see Brothers who devote themselves, some to the scientific way, others to traditional investigation, others again to the kabbalistic or ceremonial part, others to mysticism, some to the synthetic way or to the yogic one, and so on successively. All have points in common with the rest, and learn every day more to respect the modality of being of the brother or sister with whom it falls to them to Serve. Amen.
p. 7Commentaries on the First Degree of Martinism — Androgony (Continuation) — Teachings of Jehel, S∴I∴ — Now that, in previous articles, we have examined what foods are — solid, liquid and gaseous — let us note, before going further, that already in the last we had had to accept, from the evidence, that many of them were "invisible" to the physical eye of the majority of humanity; which did not prevent that, precisely, the more "invisible" the more important they were, whether by their higher vibratory power or by the much greater frequency with which we absorbed or employed them.
THE "ALIMENTATION" OF THE SOUL AND OF THE SPIRIT.
Initially, let us make a distinction to avoid confusions: we always employ, as we have said once before, the word "soul" for what refers to the higher astral and lower mental part of the Being — that is, its part "that changes in each life and perishes also at longer or shorter terms" — while by "spirit" we understand the most elevated part, whose ultimate essence is unmodifiable, being of divine origin, but which "clothes itself" successively, in conscious evolution, in modalities of subtle matter that make it of greater utility for the collaboration of the Universal Consciousness.
With what do we feed our soul?
We feed it with: desires, sentiments, emotions, passions, noble or selfish aspirations, and with all that we call "love", hatred, friendship, jealousy, ambition, resignation, tranquillity, exasperation, etc. — that is, we let it be agitated (just as material alimentation provokes the contracting and distending of stomach and intestinal tube, and the secretion necessary for digestion, to produce lymph, which will afterwards give part of the blood) by the "foods" which in this case are the states of mind that we allow to be provoked either by external agents (ambience, facts, persons, readings, music, sports, games, vices, etc., etc.), or by the internal evocation of something of all that — whether as a "memory" if it has passed, or as a "desire or project" if it has not yet happened.
But the fundamental thing is this: Everything we read, hear, say, do, desire, bless, give thanks for, criticise, repudiate, admire, etc., whether present or absent, leaves traces in our blood, in our aura and in the secret light that surrounds us (without which no "seer" could tell us our life, as many of them do by merely looking at us, from near or from far).
p. 8The procedure is, then, of an astonishing simplicity: everything we consciously seek to think, say or do that is beautiful, pure, good or disinterested is vitalising, constructive, purifying — in a word, "evolutionising" (pardon the neologism) — for our soul, making of it, thus, a more perfect instrument at the Service of the Spirit, and therefore a better "administrator or utiliser" of the physical and vital Body.
Of course, everything opposed to it — gossip, criticisms, calumnies, rancours, hatreds, envies, lies, indifferences, etc. — are "moral poisons" which, if they do not "kill", at least "sicken" some part of our emotional soul or our concrete (lower) mind.
That renders a very bad service to the Spirit, for it "deforms" its instrument, the Soul, and, by reflection, leads the Body to commit the errors that are the logical consequence of the "animic or mental error". If I think with affection, I shall want to give a caress or direct a smile or a word of encouragement.
If I think with "anti-affection", my act may go from its "minimum" degree — indifference — to "worse" shades, such as contempt, the hard word, gossip or physical aggression.
There is, then, no way of "escaping" the reciprocity of action among the "alimentations": Physical: of the physical, vital and lower astral body; Animic: of the higher astral, emotional and lower mental body; Psychic: of the higher part of the Soul and lower part of the Spirit.
He who has understood that clearly — always referring to the "famous" drawings of the constitution of the human Sphinx (number 18 of "La Iniciación") — may perhaps still fall into error, since none of us becomes "wise or holy" at a stroke; but at least he will not only know in what proportion he has "gone wrong" but will be able to foresee all the logical consequences of his error, and therefore try to "palliate" his defects and, especially, not to "reiterate the error" — which would be the real way of profiting by the lesson.
In physical alimentation one can correct the effect of an improper or too "heavy" meal with bicarbonate or lemon; but one will in any case have to bear the effect of the elimination, and try not to "gorge oneself" again. The same rule, by analogy, must be applied to the other planes.
It is for that reason that all the Schools, all the true Masters and Instructors of all latitudes and epochs, have always recommended the same: Physical sobriety, with respect for all forms of life and the choice of pure, beautiful, living and natural foods.
Animic sobriety, by the choice of readings, thoughts, acts, emotions and elevated and pure aspirations, and the cultivation of sincere and faithful love, of loyal and disinterested friendship, and work for a "collective ideal", which constitutes a species of "insurance against one's own tendency to egoism" for the beginner; A necessity for the one who is · 8
p. 9at the following stage; and "becomes" the very manner of being of him who finally "is" idealist and altruist.
Finally, the amplification of the comprehension of the universe, by study and observation; the aesthetic and ethical admiration of its marvellous harmony, obtained by comparison and meditation; and the union with its intimate essence or divine life and will, which can be reached by right action, devotion or ecstasy — these complete, little by little, this triple effort of those who, having trodden the Path, try to follow it despite all the difficulties, of which the most terrible, those that present themselves to us most often and — if we look at it more deeply — "PROBABLY THE ONLY REAL ONES", are our own imperfections.
The universal law functions with such marvellous harmony that, if we were always attentive observers, we should see that any act of ours, any word we pronounce, and even the least thought of friendship or non-friendship, generally brings its result within an extremely brief term.
From this results the conclusion of the real and most absolute universal justice, and, from it, this verification: that no being, family, collectivity, society, nation, race, continent, planet or universe gives more than it can give in its momentary state of evolution, and for that very reason also receives exactly what it deserves, plus the increment of what others more advanced give it freely, in a proportion that is also limited by special laws.
The human being is thus, essentially, an organism of "reception, emission and interchange" with all the planes of the world: physical plane, moral plane, mental plane, spiritual plane. There is thus an entire liberty to "choose the best" in what we receive, in what we give and in what we continually exchange.
The liberty of choice has no other limitation than our own capacity to understand equitably, to feel harmoniously and to live spiritually in a constant desire of approximation to the superior, to the Universal, to the Divine.
And, for all who wish to realise something practically and not merely "know theoretically how it ought to be done", it is beyond all doubt that there is no other road than to care for: One's hygiene and physical alimentation, to whose basic importance we may give, for example, the value "10". One's passions, desires, emotions, reactions and indiscretions, which have as value a minimum that would be the square of 10, that is: 100.
And one's gentle and elevated emotions, one's purity of ideal and one's disinterested acts, whose intensity, frequency and constancy will work for one's progress with a value like the cube of 10, that is: 1,000. That is, essentially, what the Masters expect of us so that it may be possible for Them to accept us as incipient Servants. Amen.
p. 10Practical course of Judicial Astrology (Continuation) — Teachings of Surya, S∴I∴ — We have already studied, in preceding articles, the fundamental characteristics of the seven Planets, whose names we shall repeat once more in the magical — and cosmogonic — order they occupy: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and The Moon.
Even though in classical judicial Astrology no other planet is taken into account, the studies of the modern astrologers permit taking some more into consideration, such as: Neptune, Uranus and Pluto. We are therefore going today to give some characteristics of the two already better known: Neptune and Uranus. As for Pluto, the Ven.
Sister Lorelair, an astrologer specialised in studying these "new" vibrations, will in due course transmit to us an article specially dedicated to the mysterious Pluto, whose influence is tied to the — likewise mysterious — sign of Scorpio. NEPTUNE — Farther from the Sun than Saturn and Uranus, Neptune was discovered in 1846 by the French astronomer Leverrier. He traverses the Zodiac in some 160 years, or roughly one sign in 14 years.
His direction of rotation is inverse to that of the 7 planets already studied, and that alone suffices to show that he belongs to "another family" — which does not prevent him from maintaining "excellent relations" with ours… He is negative and magnetic; the sign of PISCES is attributed to him as domicile, that of Cancer as place of exaltation, and his greatest affinity is with the Water Triplicity.
Burgoyne, the Rosicrucian author of "The Light of Egypt", and several other Masters of Occultism agree on the fact that both Neptune and Uranus are the "first two known to the inhabitants of the Earth" of a new "septenary" of Planets. Others claim that, if three more were discovered, one would have, with those two and the classic "7", enough to attribute a special Planet as Regent of Each Zodiacal Sign.
This matter will be treated by Esoteric Astrology. In any case one must consider: Uranus as the "Master — for us — of fraternal Love". Neptune, as the "Master of Spiritual or Divine Love".
This same thing, said in "astrological terms", would be expressed by saying that Uranus is "the higher octave of Mercury" and "Neptune the higher octave of Venus". Neptune has a marked influence in the chart of the great navigators, explorers, idealists, mystical occultists, yogis or illuminati.
He inclines to "renunciation", and as "initial steps" in many charts of lesser importance he will give wandering tendencies, ambulant professions, desires to "escape" from all that is routine, physically toilsome, stable and disciplined by regulations.
If Uranus develops dynamic initiative, Neptune exalts intimate intuition, which, when duly developed, must lead to that real and true "spontaneity" that only deserves the title when it arrives directly as a message from the higher I to the · 10
p. 11lower, without any passion, interest, desire or habit of the latter being able to do anything against the execution of the Message.
Evidently, very small is the number of beings on Earth at present who have the possibility of duly capturing such vibrations; and therefore we might make an analogy, perhaps more real than formal, in saying that Uranus corresponds to the development, partial or more, of the sixth sense, while Neptune would influence the seventh and most elevated vibration of the various human vehicles — and only he who is already in full possession of that functioning can consciously utilise all that Neptune indicates in his birth chart.
Those who have not reached that stage follow those "dictates of Neptune" either "totalised by Venus" — sentiment, art, sense of the beautiful, etc. — or in an almost unconscious manner; and it is beyond all doubt that the greater part of us have an enormous proportion of acts and decisions governed by something "almost inexplicable", which is, in great part, the Neptunian Message.
Certain states of profound melancholy, of irresistible desire for isolation, of real vexation with the whole trivial part of city and professional life are, many times, the result of the "passage" (a very slow transit) over one of the sensitive points of our horoscope.
URANUS — Besides what we have said of this Planet in treating of Neptune, we shall add that Uranus was discovered by Herschel, that he traverses his orbit in 84 years, and that he is very frequently retrograde, for us. He is an electric and magnetic planet, and the mixture of those two modalities of vibration makes him produce events as sudden as they are violent.
Given people's manner of being — generally resistant to every change and every vibration that "shakes" the sense of possessiveness and self-worship — it is logical to think that Uranus translates, for us, into a "painful" vibration, for which reason he is considered in judicial astrology as "malefic". [Sic: the original prints "matemático" (mathematical) for "maléfico".] Nevertheless, it is to him that humanity owes the possibility of the dynamisation of the most elevated "mercurian" states, which have made realisable the discoveries of radium and the Hertzian waves, and the progress that atomistic science — in the field of "vibrations" — and vitamin science in general, has made in recent times.
To him is attributed the dominion of the sign of AQUARIUS — that is, precisely the one that will rule the famous "epoch of Aquarius" which almost all the Occult Schools have predicted as due to be that in which the Fraternal clamour [Sic: the original prints "clamor Fraternal".] can begin to have a great quantity of practical adepts in humanity.
Perhaps it is not useless, in ending this brief note on Uranus, to point out that, by the study of the equinoctial or zodiacal precession, the Era of Aquarius will really begin when, around the year 2140, the Moral Capital of the so-called Western World is magnetically fixed in the United States of North America. That suffices to explain the "removal" of many Initiatic Fraternities from the European Continent to ours. 11
p. 12Progressive Course of Asana Yoga (Continuation) — By Asuri Kapila, S∴I∴ — CONSIDERATIONS ON THE PRANA-JUJ-ASANA. On the physical plane the Prana-Juj-Asana is the ideal posture for those who devote themselves to perfecting the forms of the body, and especially for women, to whom it gives harmony and elasticity in the limbs.
On the mental plane this asana is also the ideal one for obtaining the coordination of the respiratory movements and the mental state. On the spiritual plane it is the ideal posture [Sic: the original prints "la postura ideas".] for establishing more easily the contact between the physical and astral planes, dynamising the emotive and devotional states, and charging the plexuses with the terrestrial magnetism.
In effect, this asana is the one the ancient Magi, Hierophants or Priests assumed during the ritualistic ceremonies, though they did not perform it in so evident a form as when it is done in solitude and independently of any ritual.
It is not only important to learn to know the two polarities of the astral fluid or light — the fluid that permits establishing the connection between spirit and matter — but it is still more important to know its handling.
This asana permits, in effect, dynamising both polarities: the positive or electric, which is the force of attraction or cohesion in matter, and the negative or magnetic, which is the force of expansion or dispersion of matter.
The electric polarity is condensed or accumulated in those true accumulators which are the ganglia of the great sympathetic, and the magnetic polarity is emanated by the whole organism and irradiated principally by the solar and the cardiac plexus.
Now, through our mistaken way of living, the electric currents of our body come to be so deficient and weak that the organism manifests it in the form of a vibratory disequilibrium which — when what is established is not so intense as to produce death — though health suffers, the body will continue to live, adapting itself to the conditions the new vibratory equilibrium produces. [Sic: the sentence as printed is anacoluthic; rendered as it stands.] Well known are the examples given us by certain personages of the Middle Ages who, for fear of dying poisoned, went accustoming themselves — taking ever greater doses of poison — to a new vibratory equilibrium of the body, some of them arriving at a true state of immunity… [Editorial gloss: at this point the retyped source itself records "Faltan 2 páginas" — two pages are missing.] …That is why we counsel all those who wish to change their alimentary regime not to do it brusquely, trying on the contrary to give their bodies the adequate desired vibration very slowly.
A carnivore who wished to change his accustomed regime for a vegetarian one should do it in a time not less than 90 or 120 days, according to the case, thus permitting the necessary time for his body to go adapting itself to the new vibratory modality. 12
p. 13All we have set forth is not, as might be thought, a hypothesis or scientific theory, but facts that anyone can verify by placing himself in the necessary conditions of experimentation. We ourselves have experimented it by eating — being completely vegetarian — an abundant quantity of meat, and in the shortest possible period of time.
Result: strong headaches, heaviness, dizziness, anguish, ill humour, absolute loss of the disposition for physical and mental work, sluggishness in the agility of the psychic functions, pains in the lumbar region — manifesting in such form the great increase of the renal functions to obtain the elimination of the great quantity of toxic substances produced in the organism and circulating in the blood and other organic liquids.
That sudden vibratory variation, which had produced the disharmony of the habitual vibratory keynote to which we were accustomed by our vegetarian regime, was made visible [Sic: the original prints "se hacía invisible".] to the eyes of a seer in our "aura", in which was observed a strong increase in the red, a diminution in the orange and yellow, and a stronger diminution in the blue.
Now that we know what variations are produced in our physical and vital bodies with the varying of foods, and how and why they are produced, we better understand why it is convenient to go accustoming ourselves to eating a single and abundant dish, avoiding as much as possible the mixtures of various foods. If we wish, then, to eat starches, let us eat them all day long; and if we wish to eat fruit, let us eat it all day long.
If we have the necessary perseverance in the observation of these elementary principles of dietetics, we shall see that the illnesses from which almost the totality of men suffer will be unknown to us; and that, even eating badly on some day when, for one reason or another (by eating badly we mean eating white flours, sausages, cold cuts, every class of meats, etc.), we cannot avoid it, our health will not feel the perturbations so much — which are felt much more if we frequently disobey the dietetic principles set forth.
We all commit, owing to our ignorance of dietetic science, an uninterrupted series of errors; we generally eat not to provide our organism with the quality and quantity of foods it needs, but to satisfy what might be called the gustatory "sensuality", which in big eaters and gluttons reaches a true state of "erethism" that they can hardly dominate and that they take pleasure in satisfying.
Let us never forget that only vegetables and fruits are what supply us with the vitamins and mineral salts — elements our organism cannot obtain from those dead foods such as noodles, meats, cold cuts, etc. (To be continued) — HEALTH AND PEACE TO ALL BEINGS — U A M · 13

But it is well that they bear in mind from now that it will be held on the 8th of May at 7 hours 28' in the morning, GREENWICH TIME; the Members must therefore inform themselves of the difference existing between the civil time of their country and Greenwich mean time; moreover, the meetings must begin half an hour before the minute cited, so that at the precise instant of the Full Moon all may already be in full and serene action. 14

OLD MEMORIES (Translation from "The Suddha Dharma", January 1935.
Pandit Morli Dhar, of New Delhi, is one of the Members of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam who obtained their initiation (Diksha) in those times when the Venerable Swami Subramanyananda (Sir S. Subramanier Iyer) was External Head of the S. D.
M. The narration the Pandit gives us here refers to the grandiose act of his initiation, likewise to his later meeting with the revered Swami and the Swami's message. Editor: "D").
When I met Brother Janardam in Madras — the worthy and enthusiastic Director of "Suddha Dharma" — he asked me to contribute an article to this review from time to time.
I believe I could do nothing better now than to write a brief relation of the manner in which I was initiated by the remembered Dr. Subramanier, and of the great love and interest he harboured in his noble and most pure heart for his disciples, his compatriots and humanity in general.
In the year 1915 I was working as a senior employee in the offices of the Karachi railway and interested myself keenly in the labours of the Theosophical Society there.
Although I was making satisfactory progress in my studies, office work and other social and religious activities, I felt vibrate in me a keen longing to adopt and practise some method of meditation to occupy my mind in leisure moments, and even in the brief moments before going to bed at night and before rising in the morning. A friend of mine, Mr. Iver, suggested that I write to Dr. S. Subramanier, and I did so with all pleasure.
After exchanging some letters and answering certain questions of the remembered Swami, I was chosen to be initiated into the Suddha Dharma Mandalam, and the day and hour were fixed for it. I was warned that in this I must be strictly punctual.
On the day and hour agreed for my initiation, while I was reciting, with lips joined, some sacred Mantrams, striving to keep myself tranquil and serene, I suddenly felt a gentle blow at the lower extremity of the column (coccyx bone), which made me straighten the column and the neck, raise the head and throw the shoulders back.
I experienced the vision of a resplendence of vivid white light that vibrated slowly within my body, especially the chest, forehead and cranium. Instantly my eyes opened and I smiled with a smile of unaccustomed joy, feeling myself much comforted and tranquil. The course of meditation prescribed for me I practised with all satisfaction.
I used to say to myself that I had obtained the spade and located the precise point where I must dig for my spiritual development. My revered Guru (Dr. Sir S. · 15
p. 16Subramanier) always answered with all promptness all my consultations, and thus kept me firm and always progressing in my course. So that I might well understand the Bija Akshara (sacred letters) and personal Diksha, I was asked to come to Madras when it should be convenient for me. This was not obligatory; I therefore had to await the desired opportunity for a long time.
It was in July 1919 that I resolved to travel to the South of India. My comrade Lala Sodagar Mall Bhatia and his wife accompanied me. They are disciples of Dr. Subramanier and at present live a very devout existence in Dehra Dun, at the foot of the Himalaya mountains.
We sent no advance notice of our journey, for we thought a surprise visit would be more welcome. We departed from Lahore — in the Punjab, north of India — and arrived at Madras after three days' journey by train. We reached Madras at night, and the following morning made our way to Beach House, in Mylapore, residence of our revered Master.
Our hearts were overflowing with respect, devotion and sincerity. We stopped before the gate and contemplated that place smiling; but afterwards, when we entered and learned that Dr. Subramanier had gone to Bangalore [Sic: the original prints "Bongalore".] and would remain there for some time, our smile turned into a gesture of sorrow.
The Doctor's son, who was at the Bungalow, received us most courteously and arranged everything necessary for our greater comfort. At that time he occupied the post of Superintendent of Police of Madras. We were asked to visit Pandit K.
T. Srinivasachariar, in Purasawalkam, for the office of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam was located at his Residence. The following day we went to see him, and it was a great joy for us to hear his voice.
He was a scholar in Sanskrit of very outstanding merits; as he spoke neither English nor Hindustani, an interpreter had to be called who could explain to us in the English language the mixture of Tamil and Sanskrit the Pandit spoke to us.
The truth is that we could understand one another very well, notwithstanding that we conversed in unknown tongues, and we experienced a keen pleasure when the interpreter told us the same we had already understood. That was a conversation full of love and sincerity. The Pandit was the restorer of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam in the world, and all the ancient manuscripts of the sacred literature were in his power.
He knew various rites and ceremonies; he was an excellent commentator, of exceptional merits, and he clarified for us very skilfully several points that were somewhat obscure to us. The Pandit counselled us to go to Bangalore to meet Dr. Subramanier Iyer, who was the Conduit chosen by the Great Hierarchy to diffuse the knowledge of the Suddha Dharma Mandalam and its doctrine.
As we were anxious and keenly interested to meet our Guru — and although we had already travelled an extremely long distance on our journey from north to south — we made for Bangalore by the night train and arrived there in the morning. From Madras a telegram was sent to Bangalore to Dr. Subramanier, advising him of our visit. The train arrived at Bangalore punctually.
p. 17the locality where the Doctor resided. The private secretary told us that our Guru awaited us and had cancelled all the important engagements he had that day with other persons in order to be able to attend to us; he said we must accompany him immediately to the Bungalow.
For a moment we were silent, and then, as if obeying a higher inspiration, we told the Secretary that we should first like to take a bath somewhere near the railway station, since it would be to our benefit to purify the body and sanctify our thoughts before we bowed to touch the feet of the pious saint whose love and attraction had brought us from a long distance.
The private secretary conducted us to the Choultry bungalow — a free home for travellers — and, after having made the most satisfactory arrangements for our comfort, returned to the Doctor's Bungalow. Within an hour he returned, bringing us pure milk, butter, sugar and other things.
He informed us that the Doctor had rejoiced greatly that we had come, and that he sent these foods because they were not easy for strangers to obtain. [Sic: the original prints "no enviaba".] The secretary told us the Doctor would be very pleased to receive us after we had breakfasted.
Around ten in the morning we made our way to the Bungalow, where we bowed with respect, devotion and love before a resplendent personality who irradiated intrepidity, love and valour. The Guru was seated in a simple room, on a common plush seat, and on seeing us he stood straight up and extended his hands affectionately to give us his blessing.
He indicated that we should follow him to another adjoining room, in which he sat on a small woollen couch; he had in his right hand a cylindrical rod and wore his sacred rosary (Mala). The Guru sat very upright, with head erect, shoulders thrown back and legs crossed. We sat on a plush seat facing him.
We observed at this moment a great change in his body: he presented a majestic aspect, full of vigour and power, resplendent, with vivid light from within, and he emanated waves of purity and peace. We found ourselves in an atmosphere of serenity and repose and felt an immense happiness. After some preliminary questions and the explanation of certain Suddha truths, the Guru touched us with his sacred rod and granted us Initiation (Diksha).
He taught us the manner of intoning the Bijaksharas and how to meditate on them. We remained in Bangalore three days and had a good opportunity to converse freely with the Doctor on many matters. We think it well to mention here two very important answers he had the goodness to give to certain questions of mine: Question No.
1: How did you come to know, Sir, that you had been designated by the Great Hierarchy of the Badari ashram as External Head and conduit for granting blessings to disciples and initiating them into the practice of Raja Yoga? · 17
p. 18Answer: On my Buddhic plane I had the complete conviction of it, and to this I am now dedicated.1 Question No. 2: For what reason, Sir, could you take a very important and directing part in the political agitation of this country, when Mrs. Besant and Messrs.
Arundale and Wadia were imprisoned, and now, on the other hand, when there have been grave events in the Punjab with martial law, you live in retirement and take no activity whatever, whether in writing or in any other form, during this critical period? Answer: In those days I was an instrument to do what the Great Beings desired that I should accomplish. Now those same forces are working through the Mahatma Gandhi.
To meditate and pray for the good of all is now the greatest satisfaction for me. At the end of this conversation he said emphatically: "India will succeed in federating without shedding of blood". As I was not capable of understanding at that time what he meant by that word "federating", I kept silence.
Now I know what that word "federation" means. I write this for the information of my compatriots, so that they may know what the great and judicious Saint of Madras thought and said about this, twenty years ago.2 — 1 Some of us have heard it said that Dr. Subramanier went to a temple on the seashore, a little beyond the city of Madras, to receive his initiation. I myself visited this solitary temple when I was in Madras in 1935.
The Doctor's answer to my question on this point is evidently clear.
2 It must be remembered that this conversation took place in 1915. [Sic: the visit narrated occurred in 1919.] Madras is a province of simplicity and pure intelligence; its inhabitants are distinguished essentially by their brilliant wisdom, their regularity and constitutionalism; the majority of them know the services rendered and sacrifices made for his beloved province by the remembered Dr. S. Subramanier Iyer.
They should feel obliged to make an attempt to publish his biography in the adequate form and style. This would serve to educate, elevate and illumine many, so that all may follow that same line of disinterested activity. 18
p. 19Cosmic Influences and Reactions of Living Beings — Influence of orientation and of magnets upon living beings. By Pitágoras, S∴I∴ — Among the many letters Martines de Pasqually sent to his disciple J. B.
Willermoz between 1767 and 1774, there are some in which the Master gave him detailed instructions for the periodic performance of certain magical ceremonies.
Besides several instructions on the use of the priestly habit, of perfumes, etc., he gave him some on the circles that had to be drawn on the ground; on the place, within those circles and in relation to the cardinal points, at which determined words had to be traced; on the place where — likewise in accordance with the cardinal points — candles had to be set; and, finally, the orientation the disciple himself had to adopt during the various phases of the ceremony.
We are certain that if those old letters (which are at present in the Library of the city of Lyon, after having been published in fragments by Papus in his work "Martines de Pasqually" and integrally by Dr. Gérard Van Rijnberk in the 2nd volume of his "Un thaumaturge au XVIIIe siècle: Martines de Pasqually") were read today by some modern man of science imbued with materialist positivism, he would either grow indignant, considering the thaumaturge one of the many charlatans who in various epochs have entangled the credulous, or an ironic smile, almost of pity, would be drawn on his lips for a man who had believed in what, for centuries, had been transmitted by all the wise initiates — at the same time as he would interrupt the reading, considering it a waste of time.
Nevertheless, what Martines de Pasqually taught his disciple Willermoz was the fruit of infinite observations and experiences realised by a multitude of initiates from the most nebulous times of the history of humanity, and secretly transmitted, in writing or orally, across the centuries among the initiates of various hermetic societies — among them the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross.
The triumph of materialism has caused almost everything the ancients bequeathed us to be considered beautiful chimeras, and the ancients themselves ingenuous dreamers — and this through not knowing, or not wishing, to see beneath the veil of their symbolic affirmations the truth contained in them.
For some time now, a vigorous reaction is at last manifesting itself against the materialist theories, and justice is being rendered to the so discredited ancient men of science and philosophers. "If it is indispensable", said Marshal Joffre, "to possess a modern spirit — that is, oriented towards all innovations — it is very useful to know the traditions bequeathed to us by · 19
p. 20our predecessors, because these traditions are frequently made of a long experience and a patient accumulation of good sense.
In effect, the ancients — who, as we said in our preceding article on the variations of terrestrial magnetism, knew perfectly the nature of the cosmic influences — knew also the manner of profiting by those "good influences" and avoiding the "evil genii" or prejudicial influences upon all the things that surrounded them and upon themselves, by means of an adequate orientation.
Thus we see the ancient peoples build their temples so that the altar where the divinity was situated should be to the East — as was done in the primitive Christian churches and in the greater part of the churches of the Middle Ages, whose apse is likewise towards the East, so that the priest too might be oriented towards the East. We see the ancient Egyptians build the pyramids orienting them in accordance with the cardinal points.
We see in the Far East, and particularly in Japan, the counsel to place the mattress so that the head should be directed towards the North. And, in effect, in the XIXth century Baron von Reichenbach, experimenting on sensitive subjects, verified that the position with the head to the North and feet to the South favoured sleep.
We see Virgil, who almost 2,000 years ago wrote the following verses in the "Georgics", to show how the cultivators took orientation into consideration when the time for transplanting arrived: "Nevertheless the cultivators, whose vigilance is always alert, set themselves above all to the search — in order to prepare a nursery there — for a soil of the same nature as that in which the plants have developed and into which they must be transplanted in good order, to prevent a brusque change from hindering them from recognising their mother.
Moreover, they mark the bark with a sign of orientation towards the North pole: so important is adaptation when tender plants are concerned!". We see many empirics prescribe a determined orientation for taking certain remedies. 20
p. 21And we could continue giving examples, but we prefer to make known the result of some modern researches on the influence of orientation upon living beings, which come to confirm all that the ancients had said on the matter.
As regards plants, we note first of all that, if we cut the trunk of any tree, on the surface of the cut the fibres dispose themselves in the form of concentric layers, exactly like the waves of a magnetic field around an electric current — and, if the cut has been made at a bifurcation, like the waves of an electric field around two currents.
On the other hand, the dowsers, who use rods made from tree branches, know that the rod is more active if the position they give it corresponds to the position it occupied on the tree in relation to the terrestrial magnetic field — that is, if they give it its primitive orientation.
And finally, the influence of orientation upon plants can be made evident when they are transplanted, because, as Virgil said, their revival is much more rapid if they are transplanted with the same orientation they primitively had. As regards the influence of orientation upon animals, we know that it manifests itself most visibly in the migratory birds, which follow determined terrestrial magnetic currents.
Prince Albert of Monaco was able to observe a whale that followed a rectilinear course for several miles in a medium in which, like the water, there could be no points of reference. The phenomenon cannot be explained except by attributing it to the influence of a magnetic current upon the animal. As regards the influence of orientation upon men, the observations and experiences are more numerous.
Dr. Albert Abrams, of San Francisco, California, had noted during his experiments on reflexes that the maximum of excitability occurred when the subject stood oriented towards the geographic West and on aluminium plates earthed to the ground. Dr. Star-White had observed that the zones of full or dull sound of the internal organs, delimited by percussion, changed when the subject's orientation was changed.
These variations were, moreover, different according to the state of health of the subject and the influence of variously coloured lights. Those same variations due to the change of orientation can be obtained if, orienting the subject towards the West, one of the poles of a magnetised rod situated at 4 or 5 cm distance is made to act.
The effect of the various radiations and of terrestrial magnetism makes itself felt, then, with greater or lesser intensity if the subject is oriented towards the West. (To be continued). 21
p. 22Reflections on the sense of proportion — By Adhémar, A∴M∴ — If a man with a white turban on his head addressed the multitude and said: "Brothers, if you search the Sacred Books for the Hidden Truths to satisfy and affirm your religious fanaticism, you are wrapped in 'Maya'; If you search the astral roads to quench your phenomenal thirst, you are wrapped in 'Maya'; If, with preconceived ideas, you search to satisfy your palate and reaffirm your opinion, you are wrapped in 'Maya'; Nevertheless, the Valiant Lanoo who knows how to grasp the Flaming Sword and enters resolutely into the tangled Forest, and destroys at each step's advance every undergrowth and overcomes without fear every obstacle — He comes to vanquish the Great Serpent that guards the Tree of Bodhi and, stripping its foliage with patience, will find the Direct Path; Then, pure as a child, he will bathe in HARI.
He will have entered the Light of Brahma and will be one with Him". The persons who heard him (many understanding "not a whit") would think — or at least many would say: "He speaks like a Guru" — and who would alter his road to follow the Guru on the Path?...
And if that same Being, presenting himself without a turban (perhaps even with a "très chic" collar and tie), spoke thus: "From the Divine World, the Virginal Spirits abandon their Abode and, enamoured of creative sensations, go falling into the denser Worlds, until the Soul, forgetful of its divine origin, finds itself crucified in Matter; With a cry of pain, the Soul enters the Physical World, passing through the Gate of Death… · 22
p. 23It died to the Higher Worlds and is 'behindhand'… With the first inspiration the child makes on arriving in the World, and which accompanies the cry, it receives the first charge of air that bursts into the lungs; with the oxygen, each atom receives a peculiar stamp, which will act throughout the whole terrestrial life; That stamp impressed on the blood will form the physical bases and the temperamental disposition by which it will be distinguished from other human beings.
The Soul, in its new physical vesture, climbs the Calvary of the expiation of its past faults; the Law of Karma — of Cause and Effect — takes charge of making it fulfil its duties; wrapped in the "Overcoat" of flesh, it does not remember its past… Life, with its painful experiences, sows its road with opportunities, and it is by them that the spiritual principle awakens; then it understands that it must vanquish the flesh (its greatest limitation and biggest enemy if it lets it predominate), and it is then that it longs to free itself from that heavy burden which is the physical body, to liberate Life from Matter… Purified and free, the Soul will return to the Home of the Celestial Father from whom it emanated, to be one with Him".
People would say: "he is a western mystic"… but do people understand the Masters? And… to finish… if one or the other of the two appearances of the same Being said, in a circle of brothers, in a clearer or less complex language: "By Knowledge and Love, I realised Brahman. I am He". (Liberated Individuality) … People would think of Him, as has already been said of others who have passed before: --- He is a madman who says he is God.

Julio a Septiembre 1941:

4
Septiembre a Noviembre 1941:
Invisible.
(SE HA CUMPLIDO INTEGRALMENTE)
Edad: 2 a 3 años (1942-43):
Servir.
(SE HA CUMPLIDO INTEGRALMENTE: Gidee, revista, ediciones, Grupos y
Delegaciones, Curas, etc., etc.).
Edad 3 a 4 años y 4.5 año (1943-44 y 44):
Edad. 5 a 7 años (1944 a 46 o 47):
a)

Enseñanzas de Jehel, S:: I::
Física: del cuerpo físico, vital y astral inferior;
Anímica: del cuerpo astral superior, emocional y mental inferior;
puros, hermosos, vivos y naturales.

Enseñanzas de Surya, S:: I::
Saturno, Júpiter, Marte, Sol, Venus, Mercurio y La Luna.
considerar a:

VIEJOS RECUERDOS
(Traducción de “The Suddha Dharma”, Enero 1935.
Venerable Swami Subramanynanda (Sir, S. Subramanier Iyer), era jefe
A pesar

Por Pitágoras, S:: I::

Por Adhémar, A:: M::
para satisfacer y afirmar vuestro fanatismo religioso, estáis envuelto en “Maya”;
Si buscáis, en los caminos astrales, para apagar vuestra sed fenoménica estáis envueltos en “Maya”;
vuestra opinión, estáis envueltos en “Maya”;
supera sin temor todo obstáculo;
Ese, llega a vencer la Gran Serpiente que guarda el Árbol de Boddhi y, deshojando con paciencia su follaje, hallará el Sendero Directo;
olvidada de su origen divino, se encuentra crucificada en la Materia;
átomo recibe una estampa peculiar, la cual actuará por toda la vida terrestre;
